They did a really top notch job! The project went as quoted. They were courteous, came when they said they would, they were very respectful of our home, and the communication was fantastic. The owner, Jim, was always communicating with us, letting us know what's going on, which was fantastic. A really neat thing was on their website they had a work schedule set in place of who was going to be at our home on a particular day, what work was going to be done, and what time each person was going to arrive.

All trades arrived on time and cleaned up every day. They were professional beyond belief. Simply, a pleasure.

It went excellent. They were organized, they have a job website that walks you through your progress. And they are very informative. They handled everything from tiling, plumbing & heating, electrical, drywall, paiting & insulation, carpentry for bar, oak glass rail and built-in cabinents. Everything was completed within the promised time frame, with the utmost diligence and professionalism I have ever encountered for a home remodeling project. This was priced very fairly as I looked at a # of contractors. They were clearly the best!

It was about 10 times higher than what I had in mind. All we wanted was some drywall in the basement and some carpeting. He did a good job. He evaluated and gave us a plan that they put together.

They were great. The crews showed up on time. They were very professional. I would recommend them to anyone.

I actually bought the deal for my daughter. She actually hired them to do the job. When they transformed the basement, they were really cooperative and really work closely with her to get the job done. The construction took about several weeks. I think they are willing to work with the home owner on minor changes without the major overcharges for reasonable changes was really quite nice. The price was reasonable, they are very responsive and professional.

After dealing with contractors when building our home in 2006 I was very cautious and hesitant when looking for a contractor to finish part of our basement. Big promises, delays, and poor communication was something we dealt with in the past and was not was I was looking for with this project. After talking with some national basement remodeling companies, who put on a very slick (high pressure) presentation on the dangers of using traditional building materials for a basement remodel, I contacted BBB. Obviously moisture control is the biggest concern for a basement remodel and was my number one concern. The last thing I want is to loose our investment due to mold. I expressed my concerns with BBB and they had many suggestions & solutions to ease my concerns and left me with confidence that the work they preformed will stand the test of time. The design process was easy and they were more than willing answer all of my many questions and offer several different design choices to match our budget. Before I made the decision to proceed with BBB I contacted several references, I have never had more positive feedback about a company before. This finalized my decision to proceed with BBB. Once permits were finalized construction began on time as promised. The staff worked quickly, neatly, and acted professionally while delivering quality workmanship and showing up when scheduled. Any questions or concerns I had during construction were answered quickly and to my satisfaction. Jim is fantastic about communicating, if I sent him an email or text he would respond very quickly with an answer to my question. One of the best things I like about BBB is that they want to make your basement project an extension of your home. They matched the paint, trim, and custom doors perfectly. They genuinely care about their customers and strive to deliver a quality product and exceed expectations. We are extremely pleased we with worked with BBB on our project and would recommend them highly. I wish they were around when we built our house!

They did a great job. From the beginning in providing different options, a detailed plan, a very well laid out time table to paying attention to every detail. They are very well organized and have a great online system for showing the calendar and when people will show up and what they will be doing. Every part of the job was executed perfectly taking into account every little detail. They also built and installed a tailor made wine cellar including the cooling unit, wine cellar door and racking which was executed perfectly with a lot of knowledge as to how it needs to be done. I will certainly use them again if need anything else done in my house.

I thought they were very good and I am doing a massive project. They were very competent. They showed details that no one else did. They brought up things like insulation, etc., and no one else mentioned that to me. They told me how they were concerned about not only the quality of their work, but also how the work would be done They knew what they were doing. They gave me recommendations before I even had to ask for them. I haven’t seen the work yet but they provided a very fair price. They were better than anybody else. The other thing that I was very impressed with was that they have an online system that they belong to. They show me the progress of the job and things that happen each step of the way.

From the initial estimate i was very happy with BBB and their communication in what was going to be happening, what is would cost and what the options were. We were able to make a few choices that fit into our budget and improved the quality of our home with their help. I used a coupon which saved me $3,000 and we also received a free TV. The staff was all friendly and accommodating, especially to my two young children. They were a pleasure to work with and I would recommend them to anyone.

From the initial estimate BBB was easy to work with and available to answer questions and explain things very clearly, We were given a clear breakdown of the pricing and even used a coupon to save $3,000 and receive a free TV. All of the people who cam to my home were friendly and cleaned up very well after they worked. They were accommodating of my two young children as well, even when one played with the wet joint compound. I would work with them again.

I scheduled an appointment with ? Cathy in the office for the $59 special on Angie's List for a 2D design drawing of my basement. The week before the appointment I went to the Home Show at the XL Center in Hartford. I spoke with a salesman at their booth. He kept trying to make a sale and I kept trying to explain that all I wanted was someone to first come out and help me with a design as to what an optimal plan would be for my basement. He finally seemed to understand and gave me the name of the designer whom he thought would be coming to my home the next week. On the date of the scheduled appointment the guy from the Expo booth called to ask if he could come over 2 hours earlier because he was in the area. I agreed. I was confused because he said he was not a designer. That was evident within 5 minutes of the visit. He kept asking where I would like things and telling me about a $5,000 allowance for cabinets and a $1,500 allowance for a toilet and vanity for a bathroom. I repeatedly tried to explain that I had a coupon from Angie's List and all I wanted right now was a design. He asked if I paid for it already and when I said yes, he said it was too bad because they usually come out and do that for free. That was interesting since on Angie's List it states the coupon has a $200 value. He had no knowledge of Angie's List or the coupon. Finally, I had to ask him to leave because he was frustrating me. He was not making suggestions regarding a design but kept pressuring me for what I planned to do with the basement. After he left I called the company to complain. The receptionist took a message and said she'd have the owner call me. A short time later Jim, the owner, called me to ask what the problem was. I explained about the coupon for the design from Angie's List. The owner stated that he was unfamiliar with anything on Angie's List. He said he would talk with the person who came to my house and get back to me the following week. Later that evening a "designer" from BBB left me a message trying to explain the confusion. I returned his call the following week but never heard back from him. I also never heard back from Jim, the owner, who said he would call me the following week after he talked with his employee. For a company that has such high ratings on Angie's List, they did not seem to be familiar with their coupon or even Angie's List in general. It was also disappointing to hear that the service which they were charging a fee for on Angie's List is a service that is normally provided to their customers for free. Lastly, I asked the salesperson who came to my home as well as the receptionist if I could get a refund for the fee I paid but that has not happened either. I guess Better Built Basements feels that if a customer has a negative experience with a sales rep who is sent to do a designer's job they can just ignore them and sweep it under the table. My next step will be to contact the Better Business Bureau and the DCP. Perhaps then the owner will call me back or refund my purchase price (and it should also behoove him to become familiar with coupons his company offers on various web sites).

Person was here for 2 minutes when they communicated that there is nothing their company can do to finish my basement, because the beams are too low and not up to code. As mentioned before, if there is a minimum height requirement and if I'd known about this, I would not have purchased the coupon. It was a waste of everyone's time and effort.

It was absolutely outstanding. They were prompt, clean, professional. The owner was easy to reach, via phone or text. It was really a seamless operation. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever.

I used their service via a coupon on Angies list . They were very prompt on scheduling the visit and understanding my requests before the visit. Chris - their consultant came right on time on the day we scheduled and spent 2 hours going through the basement, answering my questions and measuring the basement for the design. He was very professional and easy to work with. I also got my quote and designs within a week as promised. I will definitely use them to get my basement done. Price on the quote is a bit high for me but I am sure they will work with me once I am ready to do the remodeling. Thank you, Dee

It turned out well. They were very neat and cleaned up whenever they finished. They gave us a couple of options and we chose one design. The workers were respectful and professional.

Received a 2D drawing. No pressure sales which I liked. Gave me a quote for what I wanted to have done but I felt the timeline and the cost were a very high. It was twice as much as the other quotes I have received. I hate to compare pricing but what put me off was the six week timeline of having three people in my house for a few walls. It just didn't add up.

It was excellent! Everyone who worked on the house were on-time, on schedule and the work was done very skillfully & to our request. They were very professional as well. The owner was always available and answered any of my emails and phone calls promptly! I would recommend them.

The Better-Built-Basements team was discovered at the Mohegan Sun Home Show in January 2012. After researching similar contractors, Better-Built was selected and contacted in March 2012. Two representatives visited our home and the layout process was begun. My wife and I knew pretty much what we wanted and the Better Built team helped us to create a plan. This phase took about two months. After a delay on our part, construction began in August 2012. The completion date was established at Nov 30, 2012. The project was actually completed in April, 2013. Delays in the project did create some consternation for my wife and me. However, the final results made any inconvenience, well worth it! A lead foreman was assigned to our project. The entire team took great measures to make sure we got exactly what we wanted (which we did). The project continued to evolve throughout the entire timeframe. The Better Built Team helped (and guided) us to pick out materials, including wood, lighting, electronics, flooring, and plumbing. They were able to use the irregular ceiling levels (due to heating ducting, carrying beams, etc) into distinct ceiling heights with crown molding that helped to define the different areas of the room (i.e. bar, theater, office, fitness room) They assisted with the selection of bar appliances, bathroom fixtures and theater electronics such as a large screen TV and audio. They provided flooring and paint samples. We called upon a female on their staff who helped to make color, fixture, lighting and layout choices. We consulted her throughout the entire project. She was really indispensable. The work site was kept clean throughout. A cleanup was conducted at the end of each work day. The workmanship is stunning. All carpentry and woodwork including the bar, fireplace surround and mantle, chair rail, crown molding, bar, and bar and bath cabinets, doors (standard and pocket) was done by experienced craftsmen; staining and painting really perfect. The surround sound system was installed by an experienced young man who made good recommendations and helped to make some subtle changes that made the TV viewing area much better. The building inspector confided in us that our basement was the nicest that he had ever seen! (really!!) When our friends visit our room for the first time (we haven't given it a name yet) their jaws literally drop. Overall, the Better Built Team is a professional team of designers and builders. Their sub contractors were amazing, taking great pride in their work and acting as if the work they did was for themselves. The final result far exceeded our expectations! We are so proud of our entertainment center and naturally, we LOVE IT!

I initially hired another contractor to remodel my basement, a friend of a friend. That was a disaster. They started and then left, were never on time and ended up making a worse mess. I was in tears. I happened to go to a home show and saw the Better Built Basement display and stopped to talk to them about my situation. They were so knowledgeable and friendly I decided to make an appointment and let them give me a free estimate which they offered. I just knew when the salesman showed up for the free estimate on time that this was going to be the beginning of a wonderful, professional remodeling job. And I was right. Not only were they at my home at the exact time and date, they were even a little early! Now for the workmanship. I had picked out a few samples that I ended up not liking and they immediately remedied the situation with good humor and actually selected something I liked even more than my original choice. The quality of the products used far exceeded my expectations. I was so amazed daily at the transformation of my basement as they worked on it. The work crew were professional and courteous at all times. I was so surprised that they cleaned up every day after themselves so there was no residual dust or mess that I might have to deal with. No one would even know there was work going on downstairs because of the great job they did cleaning up. All in all they did a fantastic job transforming my basement from an old, dusty unusuable space into a beautiful new living area.

I wish Angie would let me give out an A+ because that's what Better Built Basements would get. I knew they would be the right people for the job when they were 15 minutes early for the free estimate. Jim was nice and easy to get along with. Having an older house (built in 53) I couldn't envision having a brand new finished basement. With Jim's knowledge and experience he designed the basement of my dreams. As I sit in it now I still can't believe I'm in my own home. From the Start to finish Better Built Basements kept me informed with everything happening at my house. They called daily to let me know who was going to be working on the basement and when they would be there. Everyone that works for Better Built Basements is great. With my schedule I sleep in the afternoon and the guys got all of the "loud work" out of the way so I could sleep. Because we don't have a hatchway we had an egress window installed. It looks great. We love it so much. It lets a lot of light in the room and it's great to have open during the summer. Because we didn?t have a hatchway they brought all the supplies and tools through the living room. They were totally clean and made sure to clean up any messes they may have made right away. I could sit here all day writing great things about Better Built Basements! I compare everyone that comes into my home to do work to Better Built Basements and no one comes close to BBB.
