Floor sanding went ok. Stabilzation of hand rail was not corrected by installation of new newell post. WE were verbally told that if newell post did not stabilize railing then they would come and fix problem for free. When we contacted them about problem they denied ever having made that promise. Rather than try to work with a company that doesn't keep their word, we dropped the matter as they are not considered a morally unethicall organization that can't take criticism.
Description of Work: contract was to resand oak flooring in house and to stabilize hand rail on stair case.

Boardwalk Designs helped us with a major renovation project involving a radiant floor heating system. They came in and removed all the main floor and master bedroom carpeting, for later re-use. They helped us find an engineered hardwood floor that could be warrantied when installed on a gypsum concrete base floor. They helped us with a last-minute choice in floor tiles, when our chosen tile (from another company) was back-ordered. They helped us choose a kitchen backsplash that complemented a new granite countertop. Kudos to Cory Edd at Boardwalk Designs; she was fantastic, and extremely tolerant of an excessive number of phone calls. Their carpet crew hit a snag when considering how to reinstall the carpet in the master bedroom. There was a 1.5 inch tapered drop from the master bedroom to the hallway, due to the radiant floor heating system. They didn't like the way the carpet had originally been installed, so they crafted an oak threshold piece to separate the two areas. It looks great. My only complaint was that the carpet tack strips on the bedroom side of the threshold were not put down the way I would have liked. Gypsum concrete is flaky, and doesn't hold nails well. The general contractor put nails all the way through to the subfloor to make me happy. The kitchen backsplash was put in quickly and professionally, and it looks great. I'd almost like to put this next part in a separate review. In contrast to the wonderful experiences with the carpet, wood flooring, and backsplash, the experience with the floor tile installation was not good at all. Boardwalk Designs called in a subcontractor for this work. And except for this subcontractor's work, Boardwalk Designs deserves an "A" overall. The grout lines were not always straight; I had to make the guy redo some tiles to fix this. The tiles were not always laid flat, in my opinion. With the original tile work I could slide across the floor; with this tile job I could stub my toes when moving around. I had him pull up and replace the worst ones. I actually had the Boardwalk Design owner out to my house to see this. He called in the tile manufacturer rep, just in case there were problems with the tiles themselves. After the grout was put down and it dried, I had two-tone grout. Some of it was the expected color; some was not. Were some grout packages mislabeled? I don't know. Was the wrong grout used? Again, I don't know. But the end result wasn't pretty. The subcontractor applied a grout colorant to the worst areas, to try to blend it in. The grout color is still not uniform, but it's tolerable. The tile itself is multicolored, and hides the remaining color differences pretty well. Overall, I got the impression that the subcontractor was indifferent to his work. He should have noticed the obvious problems and fixed them before I called his attention to them.
