Stellar Windows and Insulation

I would highly recommend Stellar. Their customer service was outstanding. The guys that talked to me about my options and evaluated my house were very thorough, knowledgeable, and friendly. The guys that did the insulation were also very responsive and did good work. The best news is that the insulation they recommended not only addressed my main issue (very cold floors downstairs) but improved the overall comfort of my house. My heating bills were lower this past winter, my floors were warmer, and my house has been much cooler this summer to (something I didn't expect). If you have a drafty, uncomfortable house I highly recommend these guys! And they are reasonably priced, a great value considering all the consultation services they provided. They also recommended a high efficiency fan in my bathroom that I wasn't sure about but really love. It has eliminated a mold issue I had on the ceiling due to the fact the the fan I had in there wasn't set up or working properly. Thanks Stellar!!

On Monday, I called once in the morning and once in the afternoon and spoke to two different very nice women there. I wanted to get more info, especially in relation to the Angie's list offer, which neither one could explain well. The first time, the woman told me that she would leave a message for Bill and Nathan and one of them would call me back. Seems they know more about the offer and insulation in general. When no one called me back by afternoon, I called again. The second time the woman recommended that I talk to Mark and I was put thru to Mark's VM and left him a message. None of the three men returned my call, so after hours on Tuesday night, I emailed asking once again for a response from Bill, Nathan or Mark. They would have gotten that email when they came into work on Wed. It is now Sunday and nobody ever called! I own 3 houses--one in Aurora, and two in Denver. I told them that this year I was interested in doing the one in Aurora, and next year and the year after I'd do the other two. You'd think they'd be interested in the business, no? In the meantime, I called another company and they are set to put in the insulation next week. Funny this was the first time I used Angie's List and with all the good grades this company got, I expected better. This was particularly ironic since I wanted more info on their Angie's List deal!

The gentleman who performed the audit was punctual, courteous, and thorough. He answered all my questions and did a careful job. He asked permission before drilling very small holes needed to check insulation, then filled them in. The gentleman who reviewed the final report was also courteous and thorough. He welcomed and answered my questions. Although they do many of the upgrades and fixes recommended in the report, at no time did I feel any pressure to hire them to do those fixes, and there were several that he explained how to do ourselves. My only complaint is they kept losing our phone number. After waiting almost 3 weeks for the report, I called the office and was told that they had left a message on voice mail. I did not receive a voice mail, and when I asked what number she left it at, the employee could not find a phone number in my file. She did, however, have our correct email, so why they didn't contact us by email when there was no response to the voice mail, I do not know. She took down my number again, and we set up an appointment to review the report. The man who reviewed the report with me was a few minutes late - not a problem, really - but he was apologetic and said he didn't call because he didn't have our phone number. They did all the paperwork for the Xcel Rebate, so all we had to do was sign some papers and pay the $105 fee to Stellar. I feel the job was thorough, and the money well spent. I would highly recommend this company, with the caveat that you may need to call to get the final report.

The Stellar crew was great to work with. They came in and got the job done with no hiccups. Only 1 really, we had a terminology difference in what a garage attic definition is. But other than that, the team of guys did a great job and cleaned up well. I'd have to give kudos for Dane, Danny, Dillon and Rodney.

After doing an energy audit for the home we bought in Evergreen, CO, Stellar recommended an insulation upgrade and sealing around all windows and doors. This all electric house had a high electric bill each month in the winter. We scheduled Stellar to come in to do the upgrade and sealing. Their very professional crew arrived on time on the scheduled date and set immediately to work. Around mid-afternoon the crew lead called in another crew to help them finish by end of day since t was taking longer than planned. The two crews worked until after 7:00 PM to finish the work. I was not charged for the extra labor. The results of the upgrade and sealing has significantly lowered our electric bill (> 20%). I would use Stellar again and in fact plan to when I am ready to replace some of the older windows with energy efficient triple pane windows.

He came out and he did some work. We were supposed to get a finalized report and we never got that. They guy who did the work was thorough. He just never made any recommendations or let us know of any issues. I did also want to add that they did miss the first initial appointment.

It went very well. They seem to be professional, were in and out, clean, and easy to work with. The report was very detailed and professionallyput together.

They did a good job. They were very nice and efficient. I had no problems.

I was very impressed with his professionalism during both visits. The report is very comprehensive, and I feel that that the audit was money well spent. I plan to implement many of the recommendations in the report and hope to increase the comfort of my home while reducing my energy usage. I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for $105.00 for the energy audit, and Stellar Energy required that I sign over the $140.00 rebate to them that I would receive from Xcel Energy (the local power company). This was a fair arrangement, given the amount of work that went into the energy audit.

It went pretty well. The installers were late in arriving Monday morning but they worked hard to complete it. They were three bags short and had to come back on Tuesday to complete the last bit around the hatch.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it was great. They showed up on time, and the second time they came out, he was going to be late because of snow, and he called me ahead of time. I did not pay anything additional. The price of the big deal was good. We would use them in the future.

The work crew arrived early on Monday morning per my request and were very courteous and professional all day. They were able to work around me being on conference calls. The manager came to perform the pre-install air door test on Monday morning and returned on Tuesday to perform the post test. The office is helping me file for the rebate and everything went very well. I would recommend and may use for future work.

Of the three bids that I got for my windows, Mike at Stellar was by far the best quote. Mike came by to see the windows and understand the project. It was a quick and easy visit, he took the time to understand what I wanted to achieve with my new windows and help me understand what would work best. Mike's quote was thorough and specific to my house and needs. He suggested different types of glass for windows with North/South and East/West exposure, instead of just the 'best' glass for each window. It just made more sense than the other bids. I don't always go with the lowest price, but Stellar was the lowest, and I'd guess it's because Mike put a little more thought into what was necessary. The installers came and went in a few hours, did a great job removing the old windows, installing and sealing the new windows, and filled me in on the challenges they were having in my old house. They were nice, efficient, and did great work. Although there was one scratch on my newly painted wall, everything was great. I have more windows to replace someday, and I will absolutely be calling Mike.

Marion Brown their field operation manager was terrific. He really paid attention to details and ensured they sealed everything and got into tough spots to make sure the insulation was everywhere. They ran a little late a couple of days but did call and let me know they would be late. They were very careful and cleaned up after themselves very well. I would highly recommend them especially with Marion Brown leading the crew.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it was fine. The service was good and comprehensive. The man who came out was very professional and we thought the information was very helpful and good.

It went great. They did a wonderful job. The assessment was very thorough. They followed up with a long, sit down discussion about the results and what we can do about it. They didn't try to get me to spend more than I needed to and even saved me a fair bit of money. They even helped me afterward getting the rebate from Xcel Energy. I thought they were great.

The Auditors were professional and personable. They answered all of my questions and address my concerns with expertise. I only had a couple of areas in my house that I was concerend about and they were able to tell me where I needed to concentrate my efforts in order to combat the problems. The follow-up review was helpful and a bid was provided with no pressure. Thanks!

The installation part was a follow up to the energy audit I purchased from them about a month ago. When the auditor team came out, they went through several tests and out of the report, I picked the most cost-effective way to lower temperature to reduce cooling costs. The report recommended additional roof vents and new soffit vents. When the installer for the vents came out, the guy suggested that I had enough roof vents and only needed soffit vents--8 to 10 to help airflow and let hot air escape from the attic. This is not what the energy audit recommended and this leads me to believe that the audit was incorrect (the audit cost $100). If an outfit claims to be an expert at energy audit and then the installer comes out to disagree with the audit report, this is troubling. They sure need to get their act together. I decided to just install the soffit vents and the installers finished the job in about an hour charging me $65 per vent. I should have used other contractors to install soffit vents since the job involved simply cutting into the ceiling panel and screwing cheap vents--not a complicated work. I thought the installation cost was too much and I could have used different contractor to do the same job for at least 33% or more less. I sent off an email to Stellar detailing how I was disappointed; someone called and left a message to address my concerns; I called back and left my message so that we can talk but I never heard back from Stellar again. My advice to those who are thinking about using Stellar for energy audit or installation is to look at other companies and check reviews and skip Stellar. But if you do hire Stellar to do the energy audit, have someone else do the installation work.

They're okay. They're in the top three but not the best. He gave me a heads up about the asbestos in the basement. He's a real nice guy, I thought. The best price came from another service provider. Stellar wasn't bad on the paperwork. They didn't seem to quite understand a good way to insulate the house. They were the first ones I called. The other ones had much better ideas. The quote was in the $3000 to $4000 range. It was higher than the other companies I'd gotten quotes from. He was one of the friendliest guys.

Stellar sent Mike to look at our job and provide options and a quote. I stated that my priorities were energy efficiency, noise dampening, and that they were appropriate to the house and neighborhood both in style and cost. While my concern was not specifically cost (if there is great value in spending money for something better, that is fine) I did not want to spend too much in the context of the house and neighborhood these windows were going into. He arrived with a couple options he felt would be ideal for us. He answered a number of questions I had about various materials and types of windows. What I was most impressed with was before he left, I asked "so if money is no object, would you advise another choice through your company that I should be installing here?" to which he replied that he really could not advise spending a lot more, because any additional return in performance and quality would nominal. This seemed like a very honest response, when they could have attempted to upsell me on something ridiculous. I have been remodeling this house for more than three years, now. I have dealt with contractors and jobs of all sorts. Some have been absolute nightmares (like my tilers). However, dealing with Stellar has been terrific. Their prices seemed reasonable and they seemed knowledgeable. More, their guys arrived on the date provided and took the two days they said it would. They were polite, considerate, worked fast, worked around us (we have home offices), only turned on music after asking us first (and then, were very reasonable about the volume), cleaned up after themselves, and their supervisor checked up on the finished work before moving on to the next job. It really was clockwork. Since I don't know a lot about windows, I can not authoritatively speak to the quality of the product or the work. However, our home seems warmer, it is a lot quieter, the windows look a lot better, and they seem to have been installed properly. The only concern I had at any point was that their contract requires you to agree to third party arbitration and mediation, if there is ever a problem. In my experience and on advise of my legal counsel, this is never a good idea. I do not ever agree to arbitration clauses. However, I felt the price was reasonable enough (and every other installer seems to require the same agreement) that I would take the risk (though I did note my displeasure at the clause to the company). Based on my experience with their sales guy, their installers, the installation, and the improvements to our comfort with these windows in the few months we have had them, I would currently recommend that someone looking for window options at least have an appointment with Stellar to see if their options and prices are for you.

The overall service was great, They did all the testing and made an appointment to come back out and go over the results. He was very honest and gave me the proper recommendations.

They had many suggestions and we are slowly working down the list.

The technicians went through the hose with infrared scans to detect thermal spikes. then they sealed up the house to determine the air exchange rate. Prior to the visit I was given instructions on how to access my public service account for more details regarding energy use. Not surprising our 25yr old air conditioner is not efficient. For replacement when it goes out they recommended a swamp cooler. We could also benefit from increasing insulation which at the moment is too expensive. I thought this was a great deal with a detailed report that costs much more than the price we paid. Thanks Stellar!,

They were very knowledgeable and had great product and price. However, their price was on the high side.
