I woke up on a Thursday morning to a leaking water heater. I headed to my local big box store to buy a new one and have them install it. After asking me some questions, they determined an evaluation needed to be done first. I paid them $35 for that and headed home. By noon someone had been here and done the evaluation, but I got another phone call later saying the big box store wanted a second opinion, something to do with a pipe that went up instead of down. By around 4 the second evaluation had been done, but I still didn?t have a cost estimate or an installation scheduled. I had turned the water to the hot water heater off and drained it that morning, but it was still leaking that evening. The guys that had come out didn?t seem to be concerned about that and had just said it would finish draining before long. However, I was very concerned about it and finally did what I should have done that morning. I went to Angie?s List and found that Greater Western Plumbing had a hot water installation deal for $279. The big box store called me Friday morning with an estimate, but I decided I would rather go with the deal I had found on Angie?s List. I contacted Greater Western Pluming and explained the situation to Mike. Even though they already had a full day?s work scheduled, he managed to squeeze me in. We arranged that he would pick up the water heater from the store and install it that day. He was at my house by about 12:30 and after some investigation found that the leak was from a pipe and not the water heater itself. He had already disconnected the water heater and offered to just hook it back up and fix the pipe to save me some money, but I declined as the water heater was due to be replaced. He said it would take about an hour extra to fix the leak and that would be an additional charge of $100. It did take him a little longer than that to fix it because dumb me had forgotten that my house has stainless steel pipe. When I had kitchen work done awhile back, the contractor told me that I would have to have Bell Plumbing do the plumbing work because not very many people know how to work with it. So when Mike said he had never seen that kind of pipe, I remembered and told him the story and instead of telling me to call Bell Plumbing, he made a few phone calls for advice and then just fixed it. I offered to pay him for the extra half hour or so, but he was insistent that he stick with his original estimate. So all in all, it took about 3 hours to complete the work and I was a happy camper! I will definitely call Greater Western Plumbing again. I was happy with their quick response, quality work, and Mike's energy, enthusiasm, integrity, and his willingness to venture into the world of stainless steel pipe. Because of the $279 deal, the cost was quite a bit less than the big box store estimate. However, that wasn't the primary reason I chose to go with Greater Western Plumbing. It was because I was impressed with Mike's eagerness to resolve the problem and provide good customer service, which just didn?t seem to be a priority with the guys who the big box store had sent out.

They were very prompt. They did everything they said they were going to do and they checked another unrelated issues for me as well. I took advantage of a coupon offer for a new water heater install based on previous reviewers of Great Western Plumbing. My tank was 15 years old and original to the house. I am the sole owner and I was being proactive to replace it. I will certainly use them on any other job, problem remodel etc. in the future.

We hired Mike to move the plumbing from one side of our dryer to the other side of the dryer. His estimate was about half of the other estimates I received. Mike did the job while I was at work and when my wife was home. I don't know where to start.... - He was a highly rated plumber on Angie's list. Either the list is a total scam or he saved the worst for me. - The drain line was installed on the outside of the wall from the original location, behind the dryer and then to the relocated washed. It was on the inside of the wall before he started. We are unable to put the pantry we wanted up against the wall with the drain line sticking out 4 inches? - The hookups were not even behind the washer. They were between the washer and dryer. - The washer box with the valves and drain was installed on the outside the wall. Who does that? - The water lines were out from the wall by about 2 inches. The lines should have been up against the drywall due to the exterior wall - We wanted the water hookups to be below the top of the washer instead of above it. We didn't want to see the plumbing. It was below the top of the washer before he started. Now I know why the other estimates were about twice the price of his. It was because they were going to do the job correctly. I had to have 3 different plumbing companies come back and give me new estimates to repair Mike?s job. They were all consistent regarding the following: · Every one of them said "That's a bad job". · Every one of them said the drain pipe should have been installed in the wall. · Every one of them said the washing machine box should have been installed in the wall. · Every one of them said the washing machine box could have been installed 3" to 6" lower and behind the washer, not between the washer and dryer. · Two of them said the water lines should be on the outside of the drywall but up against the drywall, not 2" out from the drywall. We did hire another plumber and he corrected all the issues and the job looks terrific now. I would have given him a total F except that he did arrive on time and the plumbing didn?t leak when he left. All I can say is beware of the low bid.
Description of Work: Relocate the plumbing our washing machine from one side of the dryer to the other side of the dryer.

Response from Greater Western Plumbing
First of all I am very sorry you had a bad experience with Greater Western Plumbing. As I said in my previous emails to you, I am happy to put the plumbing back the way it was and give you your money back. One of Greater Western Plumbing’s goals is to save you money. Utilizing the space behind the washer and dryer was a great way to do that in your case. Combine that with the fact that your washer and dryer are up against an exterior, load-bearing wall and it was a no-brainer to save you the thousands of dollars . When I was there giving our free estimate, I very clearly told your wife that is how I would be plumbing it. She liked it. On the day of the job, I reminded her that is how I would be doing it and she not only again gave the go-ahead, but when I was finished said it was beautiful and paid me in cash. I stand by my offer to put it back the way it was and give you your money back. Give me a call on my cell at 970-389-2285 and I am sure we can bring you back to being a satisfied customer.

Mike did a tremendous job. He was right on time, very professional and friendly. I appreciated that Mike removed his shoes immediately upon arrival - and without being asked - displaying an immediate respect for my home. I knew how difficult it would be to remove my old faucet due to the incredibly tight space it occupied underneath and behind my sink. I tried to remove it myself - without success. I could barely reach the screws holding it in place. And these screws would not bulge. Mike asked me during each step of the process, if I wanted him to complete the task or if I wanted him to leave it for me to complete - thereby saving me money. Mike was so fast I had him complete the entire installation. Mike cleaned up after himself, again displaying respect for my home. I chose Great Western Plumbing because of their impressive customer reviews and comments on Angie's List. I will use them for all future plumbing needs because of the great work, respect and cost they provided me.
Description of Work: My old bathroom faucet and drain were removed, my cold water shut-off valve was lowered (it was behind and right up against the sink), two new shut-off valves were installed (the old ones would not completely shut off), my new faucet and drain were intalled, and the drain pipes were re-installed.

I am a first time Angie's List user, and using Greater Western Plumbing was a fantastic experience. I am used to working with sub-par service companies, and so I asked lots of questions over about three phone calls. Mike answered the phone, or called back immediately every time, and was very patient and thorough with me. As we all are, I am very busy, so really appreciated the direct access and dialogue. Dusty and Steve showed up right on time, and the water heater and faucet install were faster than expected. The work areas were very clean during and afterwards. Dusty even spent time showing me the water heater, and answering more dumb questions about how it works. Great experience with friendly, knowledgeable professionals! Would highly recommend these guys for any service they do.
Description of Work: Our water heater was going out, so needed a new one. We ended up going from a 40 gallon to a 50 gallon water heater, which they provided. While they were out, I had them install a kitchen faucet that I purchased, as well.

I had another major company come out a week before to replace a thermostat, and I signed up for their $49 water heater inspection and drain special. The guy took one look at the 21-year old water heater in my hall closet, and said it was about to blow and I needed to replace it ASAP. He quoted me a ridiculously high price, and also said I should put in a water shut off valve for $600 more. I am just really glad I didn't bite, instead I joined Angie's List and found Greater Western Plumbing. I'm sooo grateful I found these guys! They had a $830 special water heater replacement and even put in a shut off valve for an extra $30! That was a fraction of the cost the other companies wanted! They actually came out earlier than scheduled (they called first) and quickly did their job. No, they didn't wear the paper booties the big company guys did, but heck, I'm not paying outrageous prices for those silly paper booties and incompetent workers! I totally recommend Mike & Dustin. They were professional, prompt, honest, courteous and kind.

I've used Greater Western twice now, once to do some rough-in plumbing work during new construction; and another time to install & exchange multiple dishwashers (3) and sinks. We have dealt with both owners, Dusty and Mike, and what can I say- these guys are just top notch. They go above and beyond to make sure everything works perfectly, and are extremely professional and polite. They are also very responsive when setting up an appointment- both via email and phone. Not to mention their prices are very reasonable. We won't be using anyone else but Greater Western for future plumbing needs.

Mike showed up on time approximately 26 hours after I first called him (perfectly reasonable). He made one trip to home depot to pick up some supplies he had run out of and to buy an item I requested installed. He only charged me cost on these items and did not increase the cost of the installation deal. It took him about 2 hours to install the heater and he made improvements to the plumbing going in and coming out of the unit. He checked that it worked before he left and guaranteed his work. Everything is fine so far (one week later).
Description of Work: Mike did an excellent job installing a hot water heater after ours went out. He significantly improved the way the pipes run into the heater and went above and beyond his offer to do the little things we wanted to change. Highly reccomend these guys.

I first called Greater Western Plumbing about a month ago when I had a leak originating from my washing machine. After discussing the problem, I was advised that mine was likely an appliance issue versus a plumbing issue. Based on the advice I received, I was able to contact an appliance repair company and get the issue resolved. I was appreciative of the advice I received as a company I had contacted prior did nothing to try to determine the source of my issue and scheduled an appointment that I would have had to pay for (had I not cancelled it after calling Greater Western) only to find that they would not have been able to solve my problem. I knew in that moment that my first call would be to Greater Western with any plumbing issues that arose in the future. When my toilet began vibrating and making a loud noise, I knew to call Greater Western Plumbing. I called mid-morning Friday and Dusty answered the phone immediately. Similar to my first experience, he offered potential solutions in case I wanted to attempt addressing the issue myself prior to paying someone to come out. Knowing nothing about plumbing and not trusting myself to attempt anything on my own, he set an appointment for the same afternoon based on my schedule. He called shortly before the scheduled appointment time to let me know he was running a little behind due to traffic and arrived shortly thereafter. I was very pleased at being kept in the loop as to timing as this is so unlike other service providers. Dusty was incredibly professional when he arrived, identified the problem very quickly and resolved the issue in less than an hour. I know that I am not alone in feeling vulnerable when needing home repairs. I can legitimately say that Greater Western embodies the honesty, ethics and quality that anyone would hope to find in a company. There is no doubt in my mind as to who I will call if any plumbing needs arise in the future.

Mike contacted me within a day of me buying the coupon to replace the water heater. I went to my local Home Depot and bought the water heater, and he picked it up that day and brought it over to my house. He took out the old one, replaced it with the new one, replaced another pipe that I had that was suspicious, and replaced the shut off valve for the whole home (it was leaky). The extra work was maybe $50 plus parts, and he never charged more to get things at Home Depot for me. Mike was excellent, and I have already called him to do some other work for me. He is honest and fair, and did a great job!

I am very eager to read reviews but have been reluctant to write them. I called Greater Western for a plumbing remodeling bid. I was finishing my basement and needed the plumbing "rough out" to be moved. This would be an extensive job as the concrete slab would need to be busted out and new plumbing installed. Dustin and Mike were prompt, courteous and professional. Their initial bid was $1,700. I thought they were very nice, but there would be no way that I would use them because their bid was so much lower than the other bids. One was $9,700. I had some modifications to my original plans that included an injector pump. These modifications did add to the final cost, but the guys were quick to assist with my needs. I do believe that I benefited from Greater Western being an upstart company. They are doing the correct things to become successful. I recommend this company and would use them again. They won't be an upstart company for long

Mike was great in setting up the service call, and Dusty did an outstanding job, picking up the replacement water heater we bought at Lowe's, taking out the old H2O heater and installing the new one. There was a very minor slow drip/leak in the hot water line after that, which they responded to very quickly and professionally to fix (no additional charge), so now everything is working perfectly. We will definitely use them again for future plumbing needs, and recommend them without reservation.
Description of Work: When our old water heater finally gave out, after attempting some self-serve remedies (replacing thermocouple, etc), we did a little research through Angie's list and contact Greater Western Plumbing. Based on reviews and pricing found on Angie's list, and after talking with them, we decided to go with Greater Western to replace our hot water heater.

Mike helped me diagnose the problem over the phone. I had noisy water pipes and using a water pressure testing gauge it was determined I needed a new pressure reduction valve.
