Apex Solutions

Be aware! This person/company (Jason Bacher, unlicensed contractor) was ON ANGIE'S LIST when I hired him but has since disappeared...what happened to the raving reviews? He started "Apex Solutions" and advertises that he deals with "all phases of construction" in the Vail Daily newspaper. I hired this company to perform many phases of a home improvement project but fired them before moving on to the second phase. I thought I was hiring a company with professional and experienced workers as advertised and as stated on the contract. What I received were young and inexperienced workers who often showed up around noon to do the work, or not at all when scheduled to be here. Work was supposed to be completed in one month's time. Instead, after 2 months, work was still not complete. The quality was not neither adequate or acceptable as dictated by industry standards. This contractor has placed a lien on my property for "unpaid work" which is nothing more than the cost for materials which he mismeasured but had to buy midway thru the project, and then tried to charge me for it when the project was supposedly "complete". For example, while laying my hardwood floor, he ran out of wood not once, but twice, then tried to charge me for it because he didn't measure it right the first (or second) time though we had an agreed upon price prior to the project start. During the project, his workers put the wood floor down then rolled the refrigerator back over it leaving grooves in the newly laid wood. The second time he ran out of wood on the floor, he went to Home Depot to get Bruce Hardwoods, which is not what I had already installed. Now I have 2 types of colors and shine on my dining room floor. I had him paint walls the same color throughout the whole house. First he bought paint with primer and tried to put it on with a sprayer but it left "fingers" and he ran out. The second time he bought the paint, but without the primer. As a result, on the second coat, I now had walls that were both flat and shiny. So now he had to buy more paint for another unexpected coat, but the 3rd attempt to correct the finish left the walls splotchy because they did not re-roll the whole thing. The lines at the ceiling are not straight/cut in, they painted window casings, wooden door frames, wooden baseboards, light fixtures, dropped paint on baseboard heating vents, missed one whole ceiling that was supposed to be painted, did not remove a chandelier they were painting around, and as a result, broke it as it came crashing to the floor and refused to reimburse me or replace it. They painted my "california closet" fixtures (in 3 closets) which were white laminate but then had to go back and scrape the paint off because, not only were they not supposed to be painted, but paint does not stick to laminate well and the shelving would not match. They were supposed to caulk the space between the walls and the baseboard but missed many baseboards/walls. I overheard a painter ask another painter what the caulk was for and how to use it. The experienced painters were not so experienced after all. The guy who laid the carpet did an excellent job. But the carpet I had picked out suddenly became unavailable, and as a result, unless I wanted a different color, I had to "upgrade" and pay $300 more than the cost we originally agreed to. I do have paint spots on my newly laid carpet because the painters were still painting when they started laying the carpet and did not put down any protective sheeting. I made a request early on...NO carpet goes down until the walls are done, but they went ahead and did it anyway. Although the plasterers did a pretty good job, they did not cover up my furniture with plastic and as a result, the joint compound dust was everywhere...in my drawers and cabinets, in every groove possible, and in the grains of my furniture, beds and TVs, and on all my clothes hanging in the closets. The contractor neglected to remove all of the switch/outlet plates so they did not re-plaster behind them or think to remove them. They did not replaster in back of light fixtures either even though I asked they they be removed. The contractor told me he would hire a cleaning company to clean up after the mess but then decided he could do it himself. I want you to know that I did 90% of the cleanup. The plasterers were not so professional and experience after all. Two guys showed up to install the floor but the contractor did not provide the grout. Because of this, they were going to leave but since the project was already so far behind I asked them what I could do to have them stay. They asked me to run to Home Depot to get a certain color grout and other supplies for which I was promised I would get reimbursement for from the contractor, but never did. The slate floor, put down a little more than a month ago already has cracked grout and was not seal-coated as promised. The slate floor installers wasn't so professional or experienced after all. While the painting and flooring was still being installed, the contractor moved on to yet another project in the phase which was to re-install wood in my skylight. The original wood was painted and he told me he could not remove the paint and would replace the wood. The wood was to be refinished with a polyurethane and installed where the original wood was removed. The wall area around the new installation is not finished and needs to be re-plastered. The new wood hangs below the ceiling because the cuts were incorrectly measured. Some of the cuts were too short so they don't even meet in the corners where the wood should meet. The wood received a quick coat of polyurethane and the sunlight is already making it look dull. The nails used in the installation are visible because wood puttly was not used to hide them/fill in the holes. The carpenter wasn't so professional or experienced after all. I am very disappointed with the results and would never hire him or Apex Solutions to work on my house again. As a result of the lack of quality and embarassment of what this contractor left me with, I will have to hire other companies to re-do his work.
