Joe came to our house to repair the a/c. He diagnosed the system needed cleaning and refrigerant adjustment. He charged us $575 for that service. That did not fix the problem. We called/texted/voiced mail Joe multiple times to set up an appointment to re-diagnose the system and he never called back or replied. We wasted our time and money. Too bad he's starting his business on the wrong foot. We could've given him more future work and referred him to family/friends.

Please read this entire review. We contracted with Under the Sun Heating and Cooling, Mr. Joe Mendez on November 2, 2021 to replace the heating and air conditioning systems in our home. Joe was great to work with during the design and installation of the systems. I was honest with Joe when we signed the contract that I was a nervous about hiring a one person company that had only been in business a few months but that we prefer to deal with small businesses and wanted to go ahead and give him a chance. He began with the installation of the furnace on November 3rd and completed the initial charge of the a/c system on December 3, 2021. Joe requested half down on November 2nd and another payment on November 22nd so he could pay the warehouse for the equipment. We paid the remaining balance on December 3 with the understanding that Joe would submit the Xcel rebate ( estimated $500) application shortly after and that he would return on May 9,2022 to complete the installation. He agreed to complete the repair of the brick where the exhaust and intake pipes were installed and balance the a/c system when the weather was warmer to ensure it would operate properly. In addition he committed to answer any questions that we had with the systems and warranty the installation and operation of the system for 1 year. I contacted Joe in late December by phone to find out the status of our rebate submission. He indicated he needed a certification of some type from Xcel and that he would be getting that the first week of January 2022. I called Joe the week of January 10th, no answer so I left him a voicemail message requesting a status. I did not receive a return call. I left a second voicemail later that week, requesting a status, no return call. I sent him a text on January 17th, no response. I contacted Xcel to see if they could give me any information on the status of the rebate. They indicated that Joe had not received the required certification and no rebate application had been submitted. I was able to submit the application for the rebate associated with the furnace but they require that a certified installation technician submit the rebate application for the a/c system. I sent Joe a second text on January 20th giving him an update on the furnace rebate and asking if he plans to complete the certification and submit the application, no response. My 5th attempt to contact Joe was an email message on February 3, 2022. I recapped my attempts to contact him and told him my assumption is that since I have received no response to any of 4 previous attempts that he has no intention of submitting the rebate and that I am just out the $200-300. I also asked him 2 additional questions: 1) “If we have questions or problems with the installation, operation or performance of our heating and a/c system are you available and will you respond? “ and 2)” Do you plan to keep our May 9th appointment to complete installation of our systems as you committed? We agreed that the a/c system needs to be balanced (since it was installed in the winter) and the repair of the brick around the intake and exhaust pipes need to be completed.” I also indicated “If I do not receive a response and commitment from you in the next few days I will assume that I need to find another company to provide those services.” As of February 18th NO RESPONSE! I told him how disappointed we were and that we gave a newly established one man company an opportunity and he let us down. I even recommended (early on) Joe to my son for a much larger heating and a/c system replacement. He did stop by my sons house and promised to send him an estimate but never did. To date, I have not received a response to any of the 5 attempts to communicate. Under the Sum Heating and Cooling, Joe Mendez did not complete the installation, never submitted the rebate application for the a/c unit and is apparently not going to honor (or at least won’t commit) the installation warranty as promised. Once he received final payment all commitments went away. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY.
