Mr. Boyd Anders called us back on the following day after my wife called him twice to get status. the call was at 4:34 PM on April 19th. He told us that he struck out on replacement parts and that Brandt the supplier was looking for an aftermarket burner unit to fix the boiler. He stated the cost would be about $3,000.00 at this time. We then requested him to provide us with an estimate to replace the boiler. The company web site says they provide free estimates. On April 20th at 3:07 PM he called us to provide an estimate for $15,314.59 to replace the boiler. This is after contacting us to get the previous bid as Leann, his office manager could not find it. My wife did provide him back with her written notes. I also contacted other vendors for quotes. I had one in my hand for $8,5000.00. During our conversation with Mr. Boyd Anders, I inquired about the type of boiler and what was the price for the boiler. He said it was Peerless boiler and it cost $6,000.00. I asked him if I could order it direct off the internet as I found the exact boiler for $3,000.00 delivered to my house and he got upset and stated that I was destroying his margins. Our conversation from this point on was not particularly productive as I was able to determine that he marked up his materials 100% and this was the difference in the bids. The next day I contacted his office and told them I decided to go with another vendor. He then sent me a bill for $522.50. The details of the invoice is $95.00 trip charge, 1 hour at $95.00 for April 18th and 3 1/2 hours at $95.00 for a total of $332.50 for work performed on April 19th, 20th and 21st. I wrote him a letter and sent a check for $285.00, which represents a trip charge at $95.00, 1 hour of work on April 18th for troubleshooting the boiler and 1 hour at $95.00 for the phone call to Brandt. I sent the letter on May 6th. The check was not cashed and we did not get any response so we called the office twice to get status in late May and June. My wife then sent a text directly to Mr. Boyd Anders and he responded that he was sending us a letter. We received a certified letter from Arapahoe Heating on June 28th saying that he was upset that we did not pay the full invoice. It took him 48 days to send the letter. I have since sent him a certified letter back with my issues and paid him the full amount of the invoice. We obviously used the other vendor and it saved us $6,814.59. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB. I also want to point out that Mr. Boyd Anders provides his cell phone number to most of his clients as he realizes that Leann does not answer the phone regularly. In the other 3 services calls with this company, calls to the office went unanswered and if we did not call Mr. Boyd Anders directly we would have not had him show up. We also paid him over $2,400.00 for 3 service calls with a total of 9 1/2 hours of work. In my opinion, I find his business practices to not be good.
Description of Work: The company provided a service call to troubleshoot my boiler on April 18, 2016. This is the 4th service call made by this company since October 2013. Mr. Boyd Anders came to my house at 5:45 PM and stayed for 30 minutes. He was unable to fix the issue at the time. He left with the part and the agreement to talk to Brandt a supplier about potential solutions to the issue. He was then going to get back to us with options.
