Mike is a bully and a horrible project manager but a very good used car salesman. I would not recommend any women in particular to work with Mike. His response anytime you disagree was very threatening to the point that frankly I’m still scared to post about this company but feel it’s important to warn off any other women from getting bullied, scammed and then ultimately threatened. Be sure to check out other reviews on Yelp and BBB as there are multiple instances of this behavior documented. Things seemed to go well at first however it was quickly apparent that the only reason he could start work early was by pulling people off other jobs to appear to be working quickly but then just as quickly pulling them off your project to take money from others without ever finishing the first job.

Response from All Universal Construction, Inc.
We were hired by [Member Name Removed] to remodel her bathroom and install flooring along with a couple other items. This job presented a lot of obstacles from the beginning which [Member Name Removed] and I acknowledged. Like every project we take on me and my team were very responsive and respectful throughout the process and at every pre existing obstacle that created additional repairs. We are a licensed company through the IBC (national building licensing) which is available to the public to view. [Member Name Removed] had a limited budget and we worked with her to keep costs down. The job started out smoothly, we prepped the floor and installed the new floor quickly after leveling the porch entry area. [Member Name Removed] had promised to move all of her belongings and furniture before we started but nothing had been moved. Unfortunately our team had to move her furniture and home belongings every-time we finished a room. This created a lot of down time that [Member Name Removed] refused to compensate us for. Along the way she elected to remove agreed work-scopes because of her financial situation. While we worked through the contract agreement for removals she didn’t want to include, this also created delays for scheduling work. [Member Name Removed] lived in a apartment complex and the plumbing was connected to all other tenant condos. Our plumber ran into a number of pre existing issues while changing out her valve and had to spend a extra day on her bathroom system. Towards the end of the job she refused to pay the change orders for all the time we spent moving her furniture, plumbing repairs among other pre existing conditions we corrected. I personally had multiple conversations with [Member Name Removed] about the outstanding bill ultimately she just didn’t have the money. [Member Name Removed] had her boyfriend present during the invoice meetings whom was very intimidating and unprofessional. [Member Name Removed] had her friend finish the outstanding portion voluntarily because of her financial position. All Universal Construction moved on and took the loss. This could have been a simple project but because of the agreements not honored by [Member Name Removed] turned out to be overwhelming.

My business partner and I started our house flipping business and Mike and All Universal Construction checked all of our boxes. As a new business, money was tight so he worked with us on that which was HUGE! Furthermore, he was incredibly efficient in getting our first project completed and meeting our deadlines. He is always VERY communicative, answering when he can and responding via text when he can’t. Even when inevitable issues arose, he had his team in there to correct them in a very timely manner. His team does such great work that we’re already working with him on our second project and looking forward to many many more!

Great. I got the chance to work with Mike here recently for the first time installing a 19ft Structural Wide Flanged Beam. I am a Journeyman Ironworker with over 20yrs in the trade and I am always a little nervous to begin working with a new General Contractor on a project, But after the first day I felt better after meeting Mike at All Universal. He immediately began addressing issues and producing answers from his Structural Engineer. It was good to see a GC that was on site and solving problems. Yes! I definitely hope to work alongside All Universal Construction again.

Mike has been incredible to work with. They built our new deck and installed our new back door. The entire experience was great. The work was competed in a timely fashion, the work was clean and Mike was always receptive to our calls and requests. Mike and his team always made sure the job was completed to our exact specifications. I would recommend All Universal to everyone looking for honest hard working people.

There are positives to using All Universal. Their bidding process was detailed, easy to understand, and they met their budget, often a rarity these days. We had decided to go with them because they had their own crew, which presumably made for easier project management; and they completed the job in the time estimated. The employees, for the most part, are polite and professional. If you need a small to mid-sized project done, they are going to do a solid job for you. On the other hand, our kitchen was a large, custom job; and this presented a steep learning curve for them. The installer lacked some critical attention to detail, had trouble understanding some of the plans, and did the appliance wall incorrectly instead of checking with the designer, even though the designer had graciously helped him earlier with the kitchen island. New parts had to be ordered and the wall redone. Some of the crew and subcontractors were also not up to the tasks, resulting in several follow-on visits. All Universal struggled with the project management side and required regular follow up: they did not keep any kind of punch list that we could see; we had to repeatedly tell them what needed to be done every step of the way. They did not confirm scheduled work with us or in several cases, with their own crew and subcontractors. We ended up with a beautiful kitchen, but it took much more time and effort on our part than it should have. Would we work with them again on another project? The answer is yes probably -- now that we know better how to work with them, and if they have learned from this project as well.

First off let me say that it was a pleasure doing business with All Universal Construction! Owner Mike and his crew are nothing less than amazing! I had a dusty, dark, unfinished basement that I wanted converted into two bedrooms, bathroom and laundry room. All Universal came in and absolutely knocked it out of the park! Wow! I couldn’t be happier with the result! Absolutely exceeded my expectations. That being said, after almost two years of enjoying our amazing basement space I noticed that some tiles in the bathroom shower had begun to pop off the wall. As you can imagine I was pretty frustrated. I called All Universal and spoke to Mike. Within hours he was at my house assessing the situation. Unfortunately the warranty on the work had expired, so I would have to pay for the repairs. No big deal. However I also wanted to have the tile completely changed anyway, which is a completely new job. Mike then tells me he would install the new tile and waterproof wallboard at no cost if I purchased the new tile. Blew me away! A couple days later I have a brand new shower! Just amazing! Thank you All Universal Construction!

Mike and his team were great. As part of an inspection to sell my house it was identified to have a structural engineer assess some findings. I reached out to multiple people and Mike was the first to respond, he had affordable rates and was very communicative. He was able to come out the very next day to make my tight deadline. He also bid on the work to be done which was affordable as well and we have contracted with him for the repairs.

Their F from the Better Business Bureau kind of says it all. I found the owner pretty nice to work with. He was flexible too which I appreciated. What I find unacceptable is related to issues that were brought to my attention by the HOA after the job was completed and paid for. Some of the issues were a bit questionable regarding if it should be the contractor's responsibility or not but in any case, the issues were caused by the contractor and the HOA is requiring me to fix them. One issue that there is no question is the contractor's responsibility are pieces of siding that were removed and never replaced. When I reached out (by email) to the contractor about these things, I was basically told none of it is their problem since I already signed off on the job being completed. I didn't expect the contractor to just fix these things at his own cost. I expected him to at least have a discussion with me about what could be done. Subsequent emails to the contractor and the administrators that work for him were completely ignored.

We worked with [Member Name Removed] throughout her deck project and completed all additional work she added. We both walked her project twice and completed all her requested punchlist items. [Member Name Removed] signed off and paid us in full, completely happy. We received a email from [Member Name Removed] 6 months later asking for additional work to be completed outside of the contracted workscope. We replied we could complete these extra requests at additional costs. We also relayed we were booked 2months out at that point. [Member Name Removed] decided to hire another company to complete the additional work.

I hired All Universal Construction to complete our basement remodel. Total square footage was just under 1400 ft.². We started at the beginning of November and just finished. Completion schedule did get pushed back, but overall was totally fine. Mike was great to work with and I would hire him again to do a project. Biggest frustration I encountered was what is when working with the electrician. Communication and follow through or not great, But they did get the job done

I had a solid and positive experience with Mike and his team. We converted an unfinished garage space into a bedroom with hardwood floors. Communication with Mike was good and work was done with completeness and on budget. There were a couple of items that I would have rather not had to address myself, but they were minor and taken care of once identified. The end product is solid, and we've begun work on a second job that will involve concrete, tile, and plumbing work. Fully recommend.

All universal construction is hands down one of the best teams and there work was flawless. Throughout the project Mike kept me informed and aware of nearly every step. The house was kept well maintained and the employees were beyond nice. My new basement has quality functionality every detail I asked for was second to none. I was able to live in my house and while the work was happening and it went so smoothly. Mike kept within my budget and even beat my timeline and I am thankful I found the right contractor for the job.

We paid Mike D’Angelo’s company All Universal Construction over $32,000 for a basement remodel that was left incomplete after putting our family through an 8-month nightmare of dealing with this business. The contract was signed Dec 2019 and was committed in the contract to be completed in 2.5 months. 8 months later, in Aug 2020, we severed our relationship with AUC after we threatened a lawsuit against them for breach of contract in multiple areas. We had to hire another person to finish the job, which ultimately cost us more money and time. I would be very hesitant to do any remodels with this company without city inspection(s). AUC failed 2 inspections with the city of Westminster with several code violations each time. These failures occurred on both ROUGH and FINAL inspections. Look at the BBB reviews if you want a true sense of how this company operates. Don’t trust the Google reviews as there are a number of employees (ex - James Bayarsaikhan) or family members (ex - Joseph D'Angelo) that have left good reviews, which is simply unethical. Areas they didn’t complete correctly or with poor quality workmanship – contracted ½ bath was never completed, contracted carpet was never installed, contracted egress window never installed, missing window flashing (waterproofing) around an exterior window that was called out by Westminster city inspector, paint overspray on most of our fixtures and windows, unfinished drywall patches in a number of areas, an unsealed shower, poorly installed vanity cabinet, cracked tile in bathroom, chipped grout in bathroom, missing paint/caulk in dozens of areas, multiple doors cut down with exposed hollow cores and many other items. Lessons learned: 1. AUC’s contract asks for 50% down at signing which should have been a red flag to us. No reputable contractor should be asking for that much down at signing unless they are already in financial trouble. 2. Progress payments were not tied contractually to specific milestones. We paid progress payments in advance of work progressing in good faith, and because we paid early our job was left lingering for months. Tie progress payments to specific milestones in the contract. 3. We provided a key and AUC provided a lock box for access to our basement so they could access the job site without having to interact with us. This was a mistake since AUC sent people out on nights and weekends multiple times to work. While we had a baby at home, at night and during the winter, they sprayed drywall texture and primed/painted which led to high levels of VOCs throughout our house for multiple nights while our baby was trying to sleep. Since it was the dead of winter, we couldn’t air out the house easily since it was in the teens at night. We had to specifically tell them no more nights on items like drywall and paint... this should have been common sense by the contractor. 4. Since the drywall and paint was done at night with portable lamps to light up the work area since electrical wasn’t installed yet, the work quality was extremely poor – large wall seams are still showing, walls are bowed out in a number of areas, and the paint job left for us to correct was terrible all the way around. 5. Paint – they didn’t thoroughly clean the baseboards, trim or walls prior to spraying paint. This led to baseboards and trim especially having dirt and debris trapped under the paint, which obviously doesn’t look professional and was not what we paid for. 6. There was a complete lack of foreman or project manager oversight on our job. Their subs came and asked us what they were supposed to do in a number of areas that they should have been proactively managing. Even after bringing this up with them two different times, nothing changed in their approach. [UPDATE] - 11/5/2020 All Universal Construction’s response fits into a pattern of trying to make themselves out to be a victim which is simply untrue. We paid AUC over $32,000 for a project that was contracted to be complete in 2.5 months and they strung us along for 8+ months before we separated from them. The bottom line is that we paid AUC for a product and service that they didn’t complete timely or with good quality. Now they are trying to fabricate a story which can’t be backed up with evidence. There is so much in their response that is untrue that I don't know where to begin. We were never in any financial hardship, we never took tasks upon ourselves and therefore AUC staff were never waiting on us (in fact our contract specifically stated we couldn’t work on any items ourselves), they never “volunteered” work or “cut costs in half” – they did the opposite and added mandatory Change Orders on both 1/20/20 and 2/24/20 totaling $1,347 on items such as unplanned soffit framing, drain line demo, and electrical demo. Some unexpected costs are expected during a renovation, I don’t fault AUC for adding these mandatory items on, these examples are just to highlight additional money requested, and paid timely, by us. We never delayed payments to the contractor, this is highly documented in emails from the owner. There is no evidence that the business can provide to back up their claim that we delayed any payments to them. Summary of timely payments made: 50% down ($17,641.01 cashed by AUC on 1/6/20 before any work started) Change Order ($4,667.45) agreed to scope on 1/20, check picked up by AUC on 1/22 and cashed on 1/23 Progress Payment 1 ($5,880.33) requested by AUC to be paid by 2/21, check cashed by AUC on 2/19 Progress Payment 2 ($6,080.33) requested by AUC to be paid by 4/10, check cashed by AUC on 4/14 Through all of this, we have remained professional with All Universal Construction staff and their employees. The claim that we became belligerent or vulgar is simply untrue. In fact, I can provide text message evidence from the owner himself that he became belligerent and vulgar to us. There is nothing they can provide to back up this claim, and it is unfortunate that they are attempting to slander us in this way. They did refund us $2,268.23 due to work that we paid for in advance that they didn't finish. I have both checks from the owner. The "$3,578 plus an extra $1,000 for COVID inconvenience" is another lie that is easily disputed. I simply want to warn others against using this contractor. If I had read a detailed review left by someone with this type of experience, I would have chosen someone else and sidestepped the disaster that All Universal put us through. Instead of admitting his mistakes with our job, the owner has done nothing but threaten and attempt to bully me into taking my reviews down.

Response from All Universal Construction, Inc.
We took on [Member Name Removed] job initially knowing it would be a uphill journey. We agreed to discount his basement finish job in light of his economical situation. [Member Name Removed] also requested that he would paint, install doors, trim, toilet and other finishes to save money. The project started out great until it came time for the first progress payment. We finished the first phase in record time. We didn’t receive the first progress payment until three weeks after it was invoiced. We were nice enough to keep production going for a extra week but pulled off awaiting the agreed payment. Once [Member Name Removed] paid we progressed but were held up by his agreement to finish the prime, paint, trim and doors. He called us a month later and let us know he was finally done. I immediately noticed paint touch ups needed to be done, huge gaps in his trim work and the doors misaligned. He asked us to correct all of his craftsmanship for additional cost. We agreed and finished the corrections quickly. My subcontractors called me on two occasions to inform me of the uncomfortable experience they had after running into [Member Name Removed] and his “nanny”. I asked my subs to ignore anything they say and to keep the atmosphere professional. Right about this time COVID had shut all building inspections down. We couldn’t access his house for 3 months. [Member Name Removed] became extremely belligerent and angry at me, something I couldn’t control. I have horrible emails from him demanding I “do something!!” I tried my best to work with him but eventually cut ties and refunded him $3578 plus a extra $1000 for the COVID-19 inconvenience out of my control. We tried our best to work with [Member Name Removed] throughout his unfortunate financial circumstances. All Universal Construction went to great lengths to work with [Member Name Removed], we have hundreds of happy clients and have built numerous relationships with clients for yearly booked work. I wish [Member Name Removed] and his family the best and hope he finds help for his anger issues.
