I phoned several contractors and left messages. Niko Paloka, the owner of Colorado Stonework got back to me that very evening. He made time in (what I now know is a really busy schedule!) to come out the very next day and give us an estimate. He was so knowledgeable, offered excellent advise and emailed us a quote the next day. We had no idea just how delighted we were going to be with Niko and his crews. From day one, everyone was prompt, courteous, made certain that we understood what they were doing and asked us questions if they ran into any areas that they were unsure about our preferences. They guys were all gentlemen, very fun to have around, cleaned up every single day, and have some of the best work ethics I have seen in years. Niko would check in daily and often would jump in and work alongside the crews. Niko is an artist at work, a perfectionist, an honest bidder, and I think a great boss because the guys were always happy to see him show up. His standards are high, and the work is done to perfection. His wife, Polly, runs the administrative side of things and is a delight to work with. She is prompt, communicative, and made every part of the process so easy and smooth. We would hire them again in an instant and can't recommend them highly enough. We feel that we gained friends and not just work crews. The pride and ownership of a family run business comes shining through here. Niko's word can be counted on, and you can trust that you will get even a better job that you imagined.
Description of Work: We live in a wooded area, in a combination stucco and natural wood siding home. We wanted all of the old wood siding removed, and the entire house re-done in acrylic stucco with bump outs on the windows and garage. In addition, we wanted a hardscape paver and rock path between a large stand of scrub oak and our home.

It was wonderful from start to finish. Other landscape companies didn't even call me back. This company returned calls and emails promptly. I prefer email communication and they accommodated. They were here when they said they would be and did quality work. One of my neighbors commented how impressed he was with how carefully they measured and how few breaks they took during the day. He also loved the finished project. They did each project in one day and returned on a third day to remove the concrete forms and rehang the gate. The flower beds are truly a work of art. I was nervous about communicating a vision and having someone else turn it into reality, but they did it absolutely perfectly. The also did the patio for less than I was quoted by two other companies. They provided me a quote that was firm unless I changed something. In the end, my bill was exactly as promised.
Description of Work: Colorado Stonework installed two raised flower beds on the front and side of the front porch, matching the stone veneer and caps t the stone on my house. They also extended my patio in the backyard and connected it with a sidewalk to my front driveway.

Their prices are about a third of anyone else, but their quality is the best! He has a strong work ethic and has high standards. We are very pleased with everything he has done for us, and I would highly recommend him. There just aren't enough words in the dictionary to descibe how happy we are with his work and what he does!
Description of Work: They have done brick and flagstone work. This included an outdoor kitchen, sitting walls, firepits, and a patio.

I found Colorado Stoneworks on Angie's list. I called the number, and that night owner Niko Paloka was at my house talking about my project. He listened very attentively as I went through my ideas for the project. After I was done, he gave me his opinion on the project and showed me some pictures of recent work he had done to give me a visual of his ideas. He stayed for ~45min and was very patient as I went through my question list. I asked him to email me some addresses of similar projects to what I was looking at. He emailed me 3 addresses for projects similar to my idea. I later visited all three addresses and talked to 2 owners regarding working with Colorado Stoneworks. He received high praise from both owners, and all projects looked awesome. About a week later I contacted Niko again and let him know that I was interested in working with him, and that I completely changed what I wanted to do from my original idea. He totally understood, and we set up an appointment for him to come by and go over things again. He quickly emailed me an estimate for the project. Niko instructed me to talk to the owner of the store we were getting the pavers from, and with pictures of my landscape and home, we picked out an appropriate paver color. Project start day went really smooth. Niko showed up bright and early everyday about 30 minutes before his crew showed up. I really liked this because it gave me time to talk to Niko about different aspects of the job, and his opinion on what we should do in certain areas. As for the project itself, Niko was always willing to listen to my concerns, always made time when I wanted to talk, and always made me feel like my needs were his top concern. His crew was awesome too. They kept the work area clean, respected my yard, and oh...worked crazy hard! One aspect of the job that was really important to me was the steps into the house. I literally spent over an hour talking to Niko about different options on how to do the steps, and how I wanted it to look. He and quot;got itand quot;, realized how important it was to me, and built amazing steps that my wife and I love. He spent hours making sure it was perfect! He also installed really cool lights into our sitting wall that make it look amazing. I couldn't be happier with how our patio came out. I talked to other contractors, and that's all it was...talk. It was always about and quot;budgetand quot;, not the purpose for our patio. Niko made it about the purpose, he made what we wanted happen. This guy is a DOer not a talker, as well as a perfectionist. I truly believe he loves what he does and making people happy, and that's pretty rare nowadays. For any of my future homes/projects, this guys definitely getting the call.
Description of Work: Prepped patio area, built paver patio, built sitting wall, built masonry steps.

It went very well and he was good to work with. I would hire him again. He was very fair with the price and we received a beautiful flagstone patio.
Description of Work: Colorado Stonework removed our deck and installed a flagstone patio in the front of our home. He continued a path to the driveway and made a border around the pond. He is very skilled and has a talent for properly picking the stone shapes to make the project look great. He showed up and was very good at keeping the job site clean as he worked.

The owner of the business, Niko, came out when he said he would and gave me suggestions for my pathway. He quickly emailed me a quote for the job. He met me at a local stoneyard to help me pick out my flagstone. He arrived on time bright and early each day of the job and finished the job in just 3 days. He is an artist with stone, a European craftsman who is proud to produce a good quality job. I will be calling him again for sure when we are ready for a patio.

Several years our very large fountain cracked. We ditched the top and kept the bottom so that we could re-use it as a planter for the yard. The bottom had two tiers, a wide "lotus leaf" and a smaller "pot" on top of it. The bottom was also made of concrete and was 3 or more inches in some places. The bottom had to be drilled (for drainage) to be useful. I called several stone/granite/marker/fountain businesses before finding Niko. The other businesses either did not return phone calls or tried to discourage doing business with them because, although they were capable, drilling a fountain was not their primary work. Then I contacted Niko. His wife, Polly, and I exchanged emails and phone calls (I really appreciated her follow-up!). Niko inspected the fountain on the weekend, and on the following Monday he drilled it. As with the other businesses I contacted, this was not his line of work. In fact, he is a stone mason who learned his craft in Europe. However, unlike the other businesses, he wanted to help. To drill the fountain, he had to pick-up and rent a percussion carbide drill from Home Depot, come to my home, and return the drill to Home Depot. He drilled cautiously and used several bit sizes and several angled maneuvers to complete the job. I paid him more than he charged me because he was responsive, careful, and professional and because I was so happy to finally get the work done. Some years ago we had a huge retaining wall replaced. We didn't know Niko then, and I sure wish we had. I'm pretty confident we'd have been happier with Niko's work. In any case, I have his card in my list of home-needs contacts for any future work that arises. Lastly, I want to note that I marked "punctuality" as an N/A because we agreed he would come by when he could. Had we set a specific time, I'm confident that he would arrived as agreed.
Description of Work: Drilled holes into the base of a former fountain so that I could re-use it as a garden planter.
