Uncle Brian's Home Improvements

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling, Finished Carpentry and Woodworking, General Remodeling,

About us

Uncle Brian has 39 years of experience in the Home Improvement Industry and has completed thousands of jobs -leaving many customers not only satisfied, but feeling they received more than they were promised. Treating Clients as I would want to be treated is my philosophy in business and life in general. I have undertaken projects in various aspects of the Home Improvement business and specialize in Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling, as well as the Installation of Interior and Exterior Doors. My strengths include (1) Finding Real Value and completing jobs with quality materials at a price I would be willing to pay! (2) Our slogan is "Getting it Done Right -the First Time" and this is the principle I use to bring Real Value to Each new Client. (3) I rarely ask for money upfront -unless I'm ordering Special Order Materials. (3) Simply stated, I enjoy making peoples' dreams a reality and making the process more of a pleasure than a hassle. (4) I come prepared to get your project complete with the experience and equipment necessary to get your project done right - the first time! I'm equipped to handle small to midsize projects that require Quality Results. Our specialties are Kitchen & Bathroom Remodels and Window & Door Installations. Each year we receive hundreds of requests for quotes that don't fall within our specialties. We provide free estimates for well over 100 projects per year, but we do not give free estimates to everyone that calls - for the following 4 reasons: 1. When our calendar is closed, we do not estimate new jobs. 2. We only supply free estimates to folks in our service area. 3. We decide which jobs to quote based on our prior commitments, manpower, and experience, among other things. 4. Our minimum labor for free estimates is $5,000. We Don't Work On RENTAL Properties, but if you're a landlord, we'd be happy to work on your primary residence. Due to federal regulations (EPA), we don't work on houses older than 1970. Thanks, Uncle Brian

Thanks for your review!! After over 30 years of Home Improvementing,, you'd think I would know a thing or two about it. It always amazes me just how many types of Home Improvements there are!! Actually, I decline the ones that I feel unsure of finishing well. We just had a company to our home to service our furnace, (something we don't do) they started out charging a $49 fee and ended up charging almost 10 times that amount with only one small part supplied. This company overcharges for its services and will most likely spend a lot of time waiting and waiting for requests from new folks, rather than working for their previous customers. Giving people their moneys worth is a BIG part of this business, we make sure our customers feel like they got more than they expected. Case in point, we recently completed a window project, I noticed our customers' kitchen sink was not functioning properly, so we worked a little magic to correct its deficiencies and hoped that it would put a smile on our customers' face. We get many thank you's for the little things we do, that are beyond the scope of our work. Many people notice these "extras" so we'll keep our eyes open to keep our customers wanting more. Thanks angieslist! Uncle Brian

Project went well and on schedule. Only complaints were the crew was not careful with the new cabinets after installation and they did get beat up quite a bit. Also felt like we got nickeled and dimes for stuff that should have been included like installing a faucet. Overall Brian is very reasonable and the guys are hardworking and easy to work with. I would recommend them and plan on using them again.

Thank you for your honest and to the point review. It takes courage to say what's on your mind. I always admire and appreciate an upfront customer, frankly, it's nice to know where you stand and with Mike I always knew. Let's address his criticisms in an effort to lessen their reoccurrence on future projects. Member stated that he felt we charged for items that should have been included in our initial bid. He mentions a faucet and is referring to his kitchen sink faucet. Actually, this particular kitchen has 3 separate faucets. The faucet in question is a touch sensitive faucet - one that turns on with the touch of a finger. Our initial bid included installing a normal kitchen faucet, one that is factory assembled and installs in about 90 minutes. Member's faucet required assembly with more than 25 parts, installation time exceeded 3 hours. I decided to upcharge this faucet installation $35 due to its complexity, but added a section to our invoice marked "optional" and instructed member to cross out any charges in the optional area he felt were unreasonable. This type of misunderstanding can be eliminated by communicating accurately in advance just what it is that needs to be done. In Mike's case, many of the items that were to be installed were not yet purchased, so misunderstandings like this are sometimes unavoidable. I usually shop with our clients and assist in the selection of their project materials, this additional step eliminates misunderstandings almost entirely - since it allows us to discuss the possibility of added labor costs for certain labor intensive items. Another item I believe Mike is referring to is a pendant above his island. I charged him $50 on his initial bid and added $35 to his final invoice, again in the optional area. Mike's wife told me to figure on a pendant light above the island, when the fixture showed up 10 weeks later, it was unassembled and contained over 30 parts. This unassembled 10 light ceiling mounted light fixture was not in my initial budget. Installation took almost 2 1/2 hours with 2 men.. I decided to add this upcharge to our invoice "in the optional area" to allow Mike the option of paying us for what was actually installed. to be continued... Uncle Brian

I did not end up using Uncle Brian's because I was on a short schedule and they were fairly backed up. That being said, the company did everything they could to try to slot in some time to come out and do some of the more urgent work in between their other jobs ad give me an estimate on time and cost for the remaining work. I ended up finding another plumber for the water softener & fixture installation and separate handyman to do the repair work.
Description of Work: Work to be done: Install water conditioner & softener, replace all fixtures in the master bath, including moving the tub fixtures from the wall to the tub rim, and the shower controls, then repair effected tile & drywall.

He arrived at 8;20 or so, we toured the house, itemizing each of the projects (about 8). I asked him where he wanted to set up; he was easy with the garage. He plotted his work from there to the kitchen door, kitchen flooring, stairs up and down. He was very systematic. A pleasure to watch.
Description of Work: I had just had hardwood floors put in: some trim work needed to be finished. (Longer term I am thinking of remodeling three bathrooms and wanted some angles.) Due to great popular demand (understandable and workable-with) there was a delay in scheduling someone, but I could live with that to get the work done well; and I did. Kevin Green came by on the agreed upon day, and did the work in under the contracted time. He was professional, methodical and exacting; quickly understood what I was trying to do and had helpful suggestions during the work and also when we started to talk about bathroom remodels. I have owned, managed and sold real estate for 30 years. These are people I feel I can trust.

Thank you [member name removed] for taking the time to Review Uncle Brian's! We have received several complaints this past year from folks who accused us of not wanting to do their project because of its size. [member name removed]'s project was rather small, but we were happy to assist him. He made it possible by allowing us to get him into our tight schedule. I explained to him that we would get to his job in about eight weeks and that we'd try to make it "worth the wait". It sounds like we succeeded. I hope your next project ends up in a happy place too! Home Improvementing requires a lot of planning and patience. Without them, it usually ends up in overtime. Uncle Brian

We couldn't be happier with Brian and his team. The work was scheduled to be done and Brian gave us some advice on pre-work we could do to save money on the project. We decided to order some of our own materials that we chose from Home Depot. When it came time for the work, our bathtub and surround did not arrive as promised by the Home Depot and it threw off all of our work. Brian constantly adjusted his schedule and stayed on top of the folks at the Home Depot to get our job done in as timely a manner as possible. The best thing about working with Brian was that he was willing to do whatever we wanted him to and nothing more. We were working on a budget and he gave us lots of advice, let us shop for materials and adjusted his schedule to work with us. When all was said and done, Brian and his crew had replaced our tub and surround, retiled our kitchen floor, added additional kitchen lighting, installed moulding around our main floor and did some additional work that popped up during the project. All the work was high quality, finished timely and at a very reasonable cost. Most of the work we had done was to prepare our house for sale and when we buy a new home we will definitely be contacting Uncle Brian again.
Description of Work: We originally contacted Brian to give us an estimate on some work on our bathroom for our insurance. We also asked him to estimate some smaller projects that needed to get wrapped up in our kitchen and on the main floor, that we were hoping to do in conjunction with our bathroom. Our insurance ended up not covering the entire work but we decided to hire Brian to remodel our bathroom, do some electrical/lighting work, replace the floor in our kitchen, and do some other finish work in our house.

Thanks for your kind Review! Not all our jobs run like clock work, sometimes materials don't arrive on time. Sometimes, our trucks break down or our crew needs some down time to deal with a cold or a sore back. When this stuff happens, we appreciate our customers being flexible. When their schedule changes abruptly or they need to deal with an unexpected illness, we offer the same courtesy and do what we can to accommodate them. This whole process works so much better when we remember that we all deal with "stuff" that pops up - and sometimes it requires us to adjust our plans to allow time to regroup. . I'm pleased to hear that we exceeded this couples expectations, that's our goal - everyday. Uncle Brian

Thanks for your Review! We're pleased that [member name removed] was happy with the workmanship and end result. I appreciate when customers share their feedback and point out areas where we need to improve. I feel there is always room for improvement in the Home Improvement Business. We work 6 1/2 days a week to make sure each of our customers gets more than they expected. It's not always easy, but it is vital, since they are the reason we are in business in the first place! If you reach out to us and don't hear back in a timely manner, please, call me directly - my cell phone number is 720-641-7033. I only request that you refrain from leaving a voicemail message. If I don't answer the first time - call a second time, or better yet text me. I may be getting old, but my nephews keep me up to date with the latest technology. Well maybe not the latest, let's just say I now know how to text! Uncle Brian

This is the first remodel project I have ever had done for me. I started by calling several people over to give estimates. There are several reasons I choose Brian and his crew. The whole experience started with the level of experience that radiated from the crew. It was obvious within minutes that Brian (who put together the estimate) has been doing this for a long time, and was very skilled. He had several recommendations for me. Equally as important, when I rejected two of his suggestions, he didn't argue with me at all. He simply asked what I would like to do, and then explained to me what that would take in labor, materials and dollars. Once I had made my selection, this company did something none of the others even offered. They took me to several different places to shop for materials. Once again, suggestions were made, and when I shook my head ?no?, we discussed alternatives. Throughout this process, Brian kinda ?saved me? from overzealous sales people twice, and also was excited when I chose a higher quality tub surround than cost more than many people remodeling a space like this would have spent. In the end, it worked perfectly. So, the demolition started, and I got to learn what it was like to demo a 1957 house (built like a brick). There were 4-5 people here the entire day, working on demolition. I work from home, and when I mentioned this up front Brian suggested I find an alternate place to work on demolition day?I opted for the garage. I was in and out of the house all day, and his team was respectful and courteous of what I needed to do to get things done. By the end of this project, I was totally comfortable with handing them my keys as I was out for the day and saying ?have at it?. They always left the house cleaner than when they found it. Lastly, this project did wind up expanding. Sometimes, in an older house you encounter things that are ?not quite right?. A contractor can do it on the cheap, and sorta make it work, or they can do some extra work and do it the way it should be. Brian explained every snag we ran into, and the pros and cons of both methods. He was very good at helping me find ?middle ground? between spending too much money, and doing something he was ?not too sure of?. Brian and his crew obviously take a lot of pride in their work, and were direct with me when something was ?a little unusual?. In the end, I was very satisfied with the work performed, and the price I paid for it. So much so, that I am hoping to bring them back in for my next project. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to do a remodel.
Description of Work: My bathroom was a "Vintage 1957" with pink and baby blue plastic tiles, and a linen closet I could have lived in. In order to fix it, a complete demolition and rebuild was required. The bathroom was taken down to the bare walls and sub-floor, and everything was replaced. This included a custom built linen closet and medicine cabinet, toilet (had to move plumbing) bath tub and shower with a surround, tile...basically everything.

Thanks for your detailed Review! It was a pleasure working with [member name removed], we look forward to Round 2 in [member name removed]Kitchen. I never know which of the folks I meet will put their trust in us and allow us to assist them with their remodel, but letting them down is never an option. [member name removed] mentioned my vast experience - which is a nice way of saying "Uncle Brian is getting old" with his gray hair and 6 granddaughters! [member name removed] brings up a good point and one that gets little attention in this business. "Cutting corners" is not a real good way of Improving any Home. When we demo a kitchen or bath, it becomes immediately apparent if there was any pride taking the last time this place was "remodeled". Beer cans in the wall - a common finding- is not something I usually detect with a job well done. I like to "take a moment" and point out quality workmanship - even when we're demo-ing it! If the Home Improvement Business is known for "anything", I think it just might be - slapping stuff together poorly. This of course needs to change, I believe angieslist is making it more difficult for contractors with low levels of skill or lack of pride in ones workmanship to thrive, though, I think (and this is just my opinion) the public exacerbates this condition by frequently doing little to no legwork in checking out a contractors workmanship and professionalism. Contractors that quote unrealistically low prices are actually rewarded initially, until the customer "sees" what they've purchased. A recent estimate I did in Denver highlights this point unusually well. I spent a lot of time with this nice fellow, trying to educate him about this whole process. He told me - he was comparing "apples to apples" with the 4 quotes that he received. I told him - I believed he was comparing apples to "rotten apples". I suggested he do some research to avoid the type of frustration that most people encounter when what they're hoping is that they're going to get a "real deal" on this upcoming remodel. I've seen this scenario played out waaay to many times. It's not that it's not possible to get a really good deal on a Home remodeling project. BUT - do your homework when something sounds too good to be true - because it probably won't turn our the way you planned. A bathroom remodel that costs only $4500 and last 7 years is much more expensive than the same project that costs $7500 and lasts 40 years - it's actually more than 3 times the cost! The initial price tag - is of course important - but the real cost ( I call it the cost per day)- is much more telling, when considering just how much of the budget was spent. [member name removed] bathroom remodel went so well because [member name removed] managed it well. We did our part -[member name removed]did his part and everything came together the way it should. I hope your next remodel is as successful! Uncle Brian

The project went well. Brian knows his stuff. He knows how to do framing and construction the right way. He does not cut corners. He even put insulation between the ceiling joists before he closed it up. This made a difference once it was completed. The room does not sound or feel hollow. He, and the team he led, did a very good, quality job. It was not a flat ceiling. They had to close up duct work on part of the ceiling. It looks very nice now.
Description of Work: Uncle Brian's closed up my basement ceiling with drywall. It had never been finished. They also trimmed out my basement windows and doors with trim.

It went extremely well. Changing the door hardware from the tired, worn out brass look to stainless steel has helped in the updating of our home. Jeffery and Phillip did a wonderful job.
Description of Work: Jeffrey and Phillip changed all of our door hardware for 21 doors. They did it in 8 hours and also added the sliding closet door closers that I did not mention in my phone request. They were experienced, punctual and extremely hard workers barely taking time out for lunch. For many of the doors Jeffery had to chisel out areas for the new hardware. It was challenging but they did not stop until every door was completed. This included the actual door opening hardware and three hinges on each door. They did an impressive job and although doors are a specialty they do many other home improvement and contracting jobs and I plan to have them do other work for me in the future. They were both professional and polite.I highly recommend them and Uncle Brian Home Improvement.

Purchased "deal" for contractor for a day. Kevin came over and provided all his own tools and worked non-stop except for short lunch break. He completed all of the framing in my basement (about 700 sq ft) in just one day. This work would have took me well over a month to complete on my own in additional to the numerous tools i would have needed. Kevin did an excellent job and plan on using him again soon to complete the next steps of the project. In short great value for a relatively low price! Thanks.

I've spent several hours this morning getting to the bottom of this issue, since all reviews are important to our company, whether positive or negative. We received a call from this member on Feb. 18th and scheduled an estimate for a kitchen remodel on Saturday March 2nd between 8am -12pm. We sent an email to confirm this appointment on Feb. 18th to member’s work email address. This email address was rejected and sent to our spam folder. Our calendar and this failed email both reflect a March 2nd appointment. This fits well within our estimate timeframe which is currently 2-3 weeks out. I certainly understand the member’s frustration after having waited for my arrival, but question why a phone call was not made to our office to determine the cause of this missed appointment. I personally called this member on Sunday, Feb. 24th in the morning to try to explain the misunderstanding and attempt to keep our scheduled appointment for March 2nd. I spoke to the member's husband and explained the situation. He said the member would get back to us - but frankly, I know that won't happen. If this is a real estimate, she'll probably be to embarassed to contact us. I can't tell whether this is a scam or just a consumer who is accustomed to being stood up and wants to simply vent. Let me say that misunderstandings do occur, though infrequently. We have several systems in place to reduce this type of misunderstanding. After we set an appointment over the phone, we follow up with an email and then again with a phone call prior to our appointment. This process minimizes misunderstandings and reduces the frequency of my showing up to an empty house. We of course rely on members to provide correct information to us - at times we are provided with insufficient or incorrect contact info to adequately do our part. A word of advice to all - confirm appointments at the beginning of your scheduled window. I personally will place a call approx. 1 hour prior to my meeting to avoid going to a no show appointment. Provide a personal email and personal phone number(s). Work emails and phone numbers work only as a secondary source of contact information. I can’t hold my staff responsible for this situation because as best as I can ascertain, they followed our procedures properly, though, I will be glad to personally apologize to this member if given the opportunity. Not completed yet, but happy with the progress and professionalism to this point.
Description of Work: Uncle Bryan's was actually so booked and busy that they sent a subcontractor that works with them, Jerry Van Riper. Jerry has done a wonderful job thus far (we are about 50% complete). Jerry listens to what it is we want, he is very good at keeping track of change orders so there are no suprised etc. We will be using Jerry for additional projects once our bar install in the basement is complete.

Thanks for your Review!! We're happy to hear you're being treated well. We'd like to help all the folks that contact us regarding their Home Improvement Project - unfortuanately, that's not always possible, especially when people want to start their project yesterday. We are selective on handing out other companies information because Our customers are the reason we're in business and they deserve to be treated fairly and get their project completed without all the hassle normally associated with Remodeling. We like to think we take the "con" out of contracting because frankly - we're here to help - not take advantage of people who need a hand. Delivering quality day in and out is not without its challenges - we have people who would waste alot of our time without ever getting their project underway. We do what we can to get them the information they request - But we insist on keeping our attention on the folks who have put their confidence in us. We're happy to assist you with your upcoming Home Improvement - though, we do require that you plan ahead and give us approx. 8 -10 weeks to get your project started. We're in the process of expanding our team to reduce our leadtime, but this will take some doing. In the meanwhile, my advice to you when considering a Home Improvement of your own is don't rush in without a solid plan and the right people to implement it. Save yourself the frustration that is sooo common in this business. Start slowly and pick up momentum when your plan is worked out to avoid the " we need to get this done fast - even if it's done poorly" syndrome. Good Luck on your next Home Improvement Brian Enyart a.k.a. Uncle Brian

Overall the project went very well. Understand that in winter, appointments get cancelled and moved and the whole process can take longer due to weather. There were several calls and emails to Jennifer to nail down exactly when they were coming. This wasn't a big deal for us as the area being worked on wasn't part of our everyday living space, and we could accomodate anything that didnt conflict with our work schedules. I felt Brian and Jen did a good job being flexible and completing the work in a timely manner once the project got started.
Description of Work: We had an entertainment center built under the stairway in the basement where an outdated one had been previously. Brian came over and gave us an estimate rather promptly, but for the basement, the scope was just too large, and expensive. He and his teams are quite busy, and it was a few months before the work was completed, but we were in no rush, with no deadlines. We agreed to a simpler project which involved doing a demo of the old built in and construction of a new that would hold a larger flat screen tv instead of the old outdated large box tv. Brian and his staff listen well and offer suggestions as needed. The construction was primarily MDF with poplar trim, and moulding around the perimeter. We have open storage in the back of this entertainment area, and asked for an access door to help plugging in wires etc. They also installed another electrical outlet for us. The work is beautiful. It's professional and sturdy, and just what we wanted. We still have to prime and paint it, as that was not included in the price. His crew are polite, trustworthy and very easy to work with. They cleaned up after every visit and hauled away all the leftover debris afterwards. I would most definitely use Uncle Brian again. My only hesitation would be PRICE. We have some new cabinets planned upstairs in the family room, and of course would prefer nicer finished wood. I haven't gotten an estimate for that yet!

Thank you for your detailed Review! I definitely agree with this member about price being an issue - I can't believe it everytime I fill my gas tank and it costs more that $225 !! We do what we can to keep prices down and offer value to our customers, although many expenses are out of our control. I'm pleased to hear the customer is happy with her project and will give our team a thumbs up and the pizza party they so deserve. Uncle Brian

I can't praise Brian and his crew highly enough for their excellent work. Working with Brian was a great experience. He does what all contractors should do (but often don't): - He was honest and friendly - He kept me up to date (with good news or bad) - He made excellent suggestions - He made efforts to keep costs down, without cutting corners Brian did a fine job procuring materials, especially the granite. We went through a few granite companies looking for countertops in the color and style I wanted. It was a struggle, but Brian kept at it. And just when it looked like I would have to settle for something less than ideal, Brian managed to come across the perfect granite only a couple of days before the work was set to start. When it came to do the work, Brian and his crew were efficient and hard-working, staying as long as it took to get the day's work done. And the quality of their work was excellent. When I did find a chip in one of the countertops, Brian made sure the granite company sent someone to fix it right away. I should also give a shout to Brian's wife Jennifer, who did all of the scheduling and billing. She was very friendly and always responded quickly, via phone or email. I hope to update my kitchen in a year or two, and I will not hesitate to call Brian first. And my neighbor, who is looking for a contractor, saw the new bathroom and was very impressed. So I think I might be seeing Brian's truck on my street again very soon.
Description of Work: Complete update of 20-year-old bathroom. Two new vanities with granite countertops, new lights and mirrors, new shower unit, ceramic tile floor.

The project went very well. i contacted them in October and Brian provided a very fair estimate quickly. They were busy at that time of year, so I had to wait to do the work until December, but it was worth it. Brian and his team were very professional in their approach to the project and the work required. There were several small issues that came up during the projects (always the case in a house over 100 years old) and Brian was great at explaining our options and making recommendations. In addition to the terrific job they did on what we agreed, his team noticed some other small problems we had at the house that were unrelated and kind of nagging things I had avoided dealing with (since I am intrinsically lazy and unable to tell the business end of a hammer). They just whipped through those small things and got those fixed with no disruption to the main projects. I have scheduled additional projects with them since and would highly recommend them

We were so impressed with how well the job went. This was our first major remodel, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. The guys were so respectful of everything, putting down floor coverings to protect our floors and cleaning things up before they left each night. The whole team was so friendly and professional! Brian took a lot of time to explain things to us so that we could understand all of the things they were doing. He took us shopping to help us pick out tile and flooring colors, as well as the tub and shower doors. They added special touches that we weren't expecting, such as crown moulding and beautiful moulding along the display shelves. Brian installed all of the tile himself, and of course it was all beautiful in the end. I'm sure I'm missing some other examples of how meticulous they all were, but the experience could not have been better. And then to get the surprise new door in the end was just the icing on the cake! We should also mention that everyone was so friendly, it was a real pleasure having them around. They would bring lamb bones for the dog (which he loved) and also freely gave us advice for some other jobs we were considering. We are so please with our experience with Uncle Brian's that we would not hesitate for a minute to use them again and again.
Description of Work: Uncle Brian's did a moderately large bathroom remodel job for us. Brian and coworkers took a dinky bathroom, moved a wall out, and replaced world's smallest shower with a wonderful deep soaking tub / shower with a slate-looking porcelain tile surround (with a beautiful accent strip) and sliding glass doors. This part of the project also included moving the plumbing and drain from one side of the room to the other. They ran across some unexpected trouble in that there was a great deal of mold behind the old shower, so they had to clean that out and put in an up-to-date firewall. In addition, the guys moved the toilet back and to the side a few inches and also set the plumbing for the vanity back a few inches as well. They installed beautiful Mannington Adura tiles on the floor (they are vinyl and look like porcelain/ceramic/marble, but are much more durable) a new toilet, a new vanity complete with a travertine countertop, undermount sink and slate backsplash. Next, they put up an over-the-toilet cabinet, a custom-made medicine chest with a mirror, a new fan/light and a new light fixture. Finally, they replaced the old swing-out door with a six-panel pocket door. Outside the bathroom, Brian and his team took the wall that had been moved out to widen the bathroom a few inches and built two closets (linen-type closets) and a set of shelves. These shelves and closets face out into the bedroom that adjoins the bathroom and will provide a significant amount of storage and display space. Last bust not least, Brian completely surprised us with a new six-panel door leading to the bedroom, replacing the old hollow plain door that was there previously.

My security door's frame was falling apart, the wood was totally rotten. That's another long story and a mess I inherited from the original owner, but anyhow . . . I contacted another company for an estimate, thought it was pretty high and decided to seek a 2nd opinion. I went to Angie's List to search for someone which led me to Uncle Brian's Home Improvements. I contacted them for an estimate and explained the project. I received a timely response and all my follow up questions were answered promptly. I was pleasantly surprised that this estimate was considerably less than the first and I decided to hire them. The job was done as promised and at the price quoted. The only difference between the two estimates was that I had to paint the brick mold, which to me was just not a big deal especially for the savings.

I called Brian for a cabinet estimate. He said he was pretty booked out, but said I could email him with details and to possibly set up an in-house estimate. I took the time (about 30 minutes) to take pictures of my space and draft an extensive email on what I needed done in my home. I got a response from his secretary that they would have a quote back to me in 5-7days. Well, a week and a half went by and then I receive another email referring me to someone else. I don't like wasted effort as I'm extrememly busy as is. What I thought would be a convenient way to get an estimate and work done ended up being a waste of my time. This was a frustrating experience and I don't wish the same on you! The job was for building a new custom made cabinet, not for refacing. Here is the email: Sent: Wednesday, January 2, 2013 11:38 AM Subject: RE: New Cabinet Estimate Hi, Thank you for contacting us. Our office has received an influx of requests this morning. Just so you know, we are currently booked out about 6 weeks. We will take a look at your pictures and drawings within the next 5-7 days and get back to you with an estimate. Unfortuanately, this review doesn't match up to any of the 25 inquiries we've received in the last 2-3 weeks for an estimate, though I'm not doubting its authenticity. I've spoken to many folks recently and try to quickly ascertain if we perform the type of work being requested to avoid this scenario. We don't reface cabinets and I don't recall anyone asking me to reface cabinets in late December. I certainly wouldn't ask this fellow to email pictures for a project we need to pass on - so I'm a little befuddled - though, I do understand his frustration. FYI - The Home Improvement Industry has a language all its own. I understand that most folks don't speak it or don't speak it well. I believe this is a part of the problem. Case in point - Last year we had more than a few nice folks request we "fix" their gate, I asked questions in an attempt to decide what materials to bring along to complete the repair quickly. When we arrived, we found there was no gate to repair - just a hole where a gate should be or the gate so rotten it wasn't even good for firewood. Now, I don't blame people for there miscommunication, frankly - we get a good laugh at least once a week. We decided at that point to request folks send pictures of their projects, to alleviate some of the misunderstandings. I insist that our crew speak accurately (to their frustration - I'm sure) in an attempt to reduce customer frustration and mistakes. Let's face it : We all make mistakes - trying to communicate better and avoid frustrating customers is our goal. I hope the member will call again (his name doesn't match up to any we have currently) so that I can handle his request personally and I'd like to thank him for his graciousness. Most annoyed folks would have given us a big fat F. Uncle Brian

Overall the experience was great. Brian came to review the existing condition, take measurements, suggest options, and give an estimate. He and his workers came to build the railing and were efficient and neat. The railing looks great and I am glad that we went with this company.
Description of Work: Built railing on a stair from the first level to a finished basement where one had not previously existed. This required furring out an existing column and extending a wing wall to give appearance that the railing was part of the original intention of the house.

Thanks for your Review!! FYI - Transforming a plain Jane or a builders "not so special" house into something that feels more like home is not as easy as it looks. Frankly, it's all in the Details. Most houses have similar walls and ceilings - though ceiling heights can vary. The difference between Blah and Wow is usually in the care that was taken to make everything work well together. Do the finishes in a Bathroom match throughout? Are the placement of Fixtures (Vanities / Toilets / Lighting) visually appealing and functionally appropriate? A toilet that is sized improperly (too Big) or roughed in poorly can mess up a Bathroom Remodel really quick. I've even seen toilets that are installed eschew (crooked) that can throw things off considerably. Mirrors that are too BiG or too small can make a Bathroom feel too small or TOO BIG. A little change here, a different finish there, can make a huge difference in the outcome. A Bathroom Renovation will require dozens ( if not hundreds) of decisions. The end product is the sum of all those decisions displayed for all to see and touch and use. I'd estimate that up to 20% of the time spent on a project should be devoted to planning / shopping / list making and research. Skip these steps and the finished product will probably not shine. Keep in mind also that that new Tub or Floor will need to be protected - once it is installed - so that it looks new at the completion of your next Renovation. A slight blemish or scratch might be tolerable, but a deep gouge is going to make the lady of the house Cringe. These same rules apply to most Home Improvements. Careful planning / Product research / Proper Material selection / Jobsite organization and cleanliness / List making - can help you score A's on your next Improvement, or you can call a professional and skip most - but not all of these steps Until next time... Happy New Year!! Uncle Brian and Family

The entire process went very well. We were happy with the responsiveness of everyone involved with Uncle Brian's from the estimate through the final The touch-ups at the end. The estimate that was given at the beginning of work was stuck to even though the total went over by the time work was complete. We were comfortable with all of the workers we had in our home during the entire process. Very friendly and respectful.
Description of Work: We used Uncle Brian's for a remodel of our master bathroom. The work they performed included new floor installation, new bath and shower installation and tiling in the bath/shower area and around the vanity mirror. All of the initial tear-out of old fixtures was done by them as well. Brian helped tremendously with design ideas and materials suggestions. We also had a new frameless glass shower door installed by an associated company at Brian's recommendation. We were very satisfied with all of the work performed and would use them again.

Thank you for your Review! I missed this review - so I never responded. That allows me to give a quick update on this nice family. We've been back for several other projects since their master bathroom remodel and are scheduled to get back there next month to install flooring and remodel a powder room. We are grateful for our customers and don't take them for granted -Ever! After all, they have lots of choices and when they choose Uncle Brian's again and again - we make sure they get our very Best! These days we recommend Luxury Vinyl Tile and Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring. This flooring is a big improvement over traditional hard floor tile or hardwood flooring / laminate because it's Water Proof and warmer in winter months. It also doesn't crack and there's no dirty grout to clean - Ever! My customers that have taken my advice and tried this product - all Love it. I recommend products I see are better than traditional materials - whenever I can. Improved products such as LVP flooring can actually make my customers' lives Better - which makes them happy - which makes me happy! Happy is Good! Uncle Brian Note: The cost of this remodel was more than $5k - not sure why they picked that number.
