Uncle Brian has 39 years of experience in the Home Improvement Industry and has completed thousands of jobs -leaving many customers not only satisfied, but feeling they received more than they were promised. Treating Clients as I would want to be treated is my philosophy in business and life in general. I have undertaken projects in various aspects of the Home Improvement business and specialize in Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling, as well as the Installation of Interior and Exterior Doors. My strengths include (1) Finding Real Value and completing jobs with quality materials at a price I would be willing to pay! (2) Our slogan is "Getting it Done Right -the First Time" and this is the principle I use to bring Real Value to Each new Client. (3) I rarely ask for money upfront -unless I'm ordering Special Order Materials. (3) Simply stated, I enjoy making peoples' dreams a reality and making the process more of a pleasure than a hassle. (4) I come prepared to get your project complete with the experience and equipment necessary to get your project done right - the first time! I'm equipped to handle small to midsize projects that require Quality Results. Our specialties are Kitchen & Bathroom Remodels and Window & Door Installations. Each year we receive hundreds of requests for quotes that don't fall within our specialties. We provide free estimates for well over 100 projects per year, but we do not give free estimates to everyone that calls - for the following 4 reasons: 1. When our calendar is closed, we do not estimate new jobs. 2. We only supply free estimates to folks in our service area. 3. We decide which jobs to quote based on our prior commitments, manpower, and experience, among other things. 4. Our minimum labor for free estimates is $5,000. We Don't Work On RENTAL Properties, but if you're a landlord, we'd be happy to work on your primary residence. Due to federal regulations (EPA), we don't work on houses older than 1970. Thanks, Uncle Brian

Uncle Brian?s Home Improvements is a family business that implements outstanding work ethics. His crew is professional, diligent,
respectful, timely, and a delight to have in our home. They pay close attention to the smallest details. This is the first time we have ever experienced a contractor who actually looks out for the client. Their work is extraordinary and the moldings he designed are outstanding. My husband and I are still in awe with our new kitchen. Last but not least, the price was right!
One other thing that I think is very important: every so often as the numbers changed whether up or down they sent us the adjusted
figures, reasons and descriptions of the changes. There were no surprises at the end of the project, as we have experienced in the past with other companies.
We absolutely love these people. We have already hired them to remodel our deck next spring. We were scammed twice in 2007. It took until now, for us, to be financially able to try again. We are grateful that Angie had ?Uncle Brian?s Home Improvements? on her list. We praise God for giving us His BEST! Photos Attached.

"Wow! The pictures don't do this lovely families Kitchen justice. I was proud when we completed this project and sooo happy that [Member Name Removed] was also sooo pleased with her new Space. She invited the neighbors in for a peak and I was happy to overhear them congratulate her on her terrific choices. It's been almost 2 years since we completed this project and I've been back several times to visit. [Member Name Removed] had terrible experiences with 2 prior "con"tractors and I was glad we restored her faith in businessmen. These sad stories always make my stomach ache. I told her we'd take the "con" out of contracting - and she laughed. Really happy to have met these Wonderful folks! Uncle Brian and Crew"
"I appreciate the Review but can't comment on the specifics of this job because it's been 18 months and frankly, I don't recall what we did for this fellow. I'd like to take this opportunity to speak in general terms about the home improvement business and what customers should and should not expect. The customer should expect to be treated with respect and listened to attentively without a cigarette dangling from a contractors lips. The customer should expect to see action within a reasonable period of time, say 15 minutes, time spent getting tools from the truck to the jobsite. The customer should expect that their property will be treated with care and thorough clean ups be part of the renovation procedure. The customer should expect the job to progress with a minimum of setbacks, though a few are inevitable on every project. The customer should expect to be involved in the process: to answer questions, make selections of materials and customize their project as necessary. This final step is critical in regards to keeping the work on schedule. Some folks are visually oriented and don't "see " things until they're built. This type of person needs to pay particularly close attention to each step along the way to avoid too many changes. Some folks are very detailed and prefer to have lots of say concerning the specifics of the project i.e. the placement of the border tile in the shower/ the height of the showerhead/ the swing of the medicine cabinet mirror. This involvement is good, as long as decisions are made at the appropriate times and not after the fact. After 30 years of home improvementing, we have a large cargo van filled to capacity with tools and supplies of the trade, as well as two storages facilities jam packed with tubs / faucets / fixtures / toilets / tile etc... We cannot however, stock everything necessary for the hundreds of home improvement projects we perform. There are approx. one hundred different colors of caulk on the market. We generally stock 18 colors on our truck and try to keep at least 6 tubes of the popular colors, screws and nails are available in various lengths and finishes and I'd guess there are several thousand different types. Sooooo, expecting a contractor to have everything that your project requires in his truck at all times is probably not a good idea. I see a lot of makeshift building and incorrect fasteners being used on things we pull apart. This tendency is hard to resist when folks want a quick fix and their contractor to be part craftsmen and part magician. We offer what's known on angieslist as a "Big Deal", to spell it out briefly, our "Big Deal" offers the services of 2 men for 4 hours at a discounted rate. This offer is intended to allow the customer to sample the service provided by our company before tackling a larger project. Our experience, after performing many of these services is that most folks have a to do list that far exceeds their 4 hour window and that they prefer not to continue after their time is up. I request that these folks either have the materials "on hand", so that we waste no time, or are available to run to the hardware store after we arrive. Picking up materials as part of the 4 hour window doesn't work - since most people don't know exactly what they need beforehand. I can understand this fellow’s gripe about having to leave while we were working, I think the "Big Deal" was not the best "fit" for him and does have its limitations. Working with a stopwatch, as these offers require, do serve a niche market but I found it harder than usual to leave with a completely satisfied customer. We'll go back to the drawing board and see what we can do to make our customer’s reasonable expectations - a reality. Happy Improvementing! Uncle Brian"
Scheduling an initial appointment was difficult, but this was because when he is working on a project, Brian is fully dedicated to it. When they began our project, they worked quickly and efficiently. Within about a week we had a makeshift kitchen. The entire thing was done in less than 4 weeks, and it only lasted that long because we had to wait for the counter tops. We came in below budget too. Brian had many great suggestions during planning, and he was very accommodating when we asked for something specific. Communication was easy and quick. Also, as a stay-at-home mom with small children, Brian and his crew were great to work with. They never made us feel like we were in the way and made sure to make my toddler feel comfortable and included (to my son's great delight, m&ms were involved). Brian and his crew were also very diligent when it came to cleaning up and making sure things were as safe as possible at the end of each day. Overall, we couldn't be happier with our new kitchen and appreciated their assistance with our powder room.
As an additional note, in Sept (during the floods) some guys from Uncle Brian's came to help us out when our hot water heater suddenly conked out. They were great again, and we plan to continue to use them for any future projects.
"Thank you for your Review! I am frequently curious to hear the end of the story when I bid a project and lose it. I bid their master bathroom remodel and was surprised to lose it, but I understood the rush - with the new baby on the way. When I rec'd their 2nd call a year later- we bent our rule a bit and decided to do a second free estimate. I find we usually don't get the 2nd job either, so we limit most folks to 1 "free" estimate. I was sad to hear their bathroom experience wasn't a pleasant one - but not surprised. Most folks who want to get their projects done quickly, don't ask the right questions and hope that all will go well. Many times they don't. I was glad that their next home improvement experience was better / glad that we were apart of it and glad to have brought the M&M's too. Our little company has lost a few of our good men recently - it'll be difficult to replace them. Uncle Brian"
Thee guys were really good! Very pleasant and courteous at all times.
We had to wait several weeks on the last delivery in the master bath, so Brian and the crew moved on to other jobs but was here the day after the arrival of the final product. Everything was finished in just a couple more days.
Very pleased with both bathrooms.
"Thank you for the Review!! We really enjoyed working for [Member name removed] for several reasons, one of which was her amazing baking skills. The chocolate chip cookies were a favorite of all and will be sourly missed until the memory of them fades. [Member name removed] home had a number of issues that needed attention, from an improperly sloped landscape to a furnace/central air unit that required constant monitoring. We re-sloped the area outside a ground level bathroom and repaired a cracked foundation wall after we discovered from [Member name removed] that water seepage was an occasional problem that she thought she had to live with. The furnace/ central air unit was another story - the central air unit that was installed required a drain to handle the condensation that the unit generated. A pump was installed to keep this task maintenance free, trouble was - the drainline would freeze up in the winter and become clogged in the summer due to mildew. She also found that she needed to replace the pump every 3 to 5 years - at a cost of $400 -a pop. They had finally settled on an "empty the bucket" solution to this annoying problem. During the remodel, we discussed this issue and decided to install a floor drain under the 24" vanity to allow the central air unit to drain without the pump and without a visible drain in this bathroom. The concrete floor was thicker than we imagined (about 8") but before long the drain was installed and the task of emptying the bucket was soon forgotten. The "hidden" drain worked out perfectly. We installed a heated floor in the master bathroom and doubled the size of the shower. This allowed [Member name removed] to purchase a retractable teak seat that looked great and was out of the way until it was called into service. We've installed many handicapped benches in showers and some of them are retractable (foldable), but this particular seat added a bit of functionality to the shower without the handicap "look". An exhaust fan vented to the exterior and lots of added insulation in both bathrooms made things feel more private. I look forward to working for [Member name removed] on her next project and am pleased she's enjoying her new bathrooms, especially her heated floor! Happy Thanksgiving Uncle Brian"
"Thank You! I'm lost for words - enjoy it while it lasts! Oh, I remember one problem we encountered - [Member Name Removed] called me and was upset we used her sons shop vac to vacuum glass during her window project. I apologized and bought him a new vacuum - case closed. Uncle Brian"
"Thanks for your Review!! [member name removed] and his wife were nice folks to work with and I enjoyed his stories about working on the Hubble telescope! [member name removed] originally laid out his Master Bathroom project and was amendable to many of the cost saving recommendations we suggested. When it cane time to purchase his materials, he had changed his mind on a few items and almost doubled the scope of his project - time wise. He ended up scaling things back a little to get his budget back on track, but I believe he ended up with the bathroom he was envisioning, and a price tag he could live with. After decades of building peoples dream places in their homes, I know a thing or two about getting my clients to the end of their project without breaking the bank in the process. Sometimes, a little change here or there can make a big difference when it comes to tallying the final total, but when someone wants to splurge - in a certain area of the remodel - that usually works, but I always let them know of other ways to accomplish close to what they want for Less, sometimes a lot Less. In the end, the Customer tells us what they want - in detail - and We try to make it affordable without cutting corners on Quality /Style and Functionality. I'm pleased to hear [member name removed] and his bride were happy with the almost finished project and I hope they enjoy it for many years! Thanks Uncle Brian"
"Thank you for noticing the Difference and Thanks for your Review! We've worked for many hundreds of homeowners - I like calling them "folks". I've heard lots of horror stories over the years about poor quality remodeling and never enjoy seeing the problems it causes my clients. Details are the Name of the Game - when it comes to Homes Improvementing! Let's think about it for a moment, a low quality Bathroom Remodel isn't easy to complete, it isn't cheap and it usually isn't done quickly. Many of the same steps are taken to get to the finish line in either scenario. I like to say - the difference between a high Quality and low Quality Remodel isn't much along the way. There are hundreds of little decisions to consider, before standing at that coveted finish line. All those little decisions add up in the end to make the Difference between a Remodel that stands the test of time and has folks standing a few moments longer to enjoy the fruits of their labor - or pulling out some of their hair in frustration. That's why we take the extra time to do a Quality Job and select Quality materials. Everyone wants a Quality / Hassle Free Remodel. Delivering it day in and day out isn't always easy but it is always our Focus. Our customers tell us what they want, we do our best to deliver it in an affordable way, they are Happy - we are Happy, Life is Good! Happy Home Improvementing!! Uncle Brian"
"Thanks for your kind Review!! When my customer relayed to me the fact that the previous contractor had installed his 10 foot tall Front Entry Unit in under 3 hours I was amazed. If there was a race to the finish line, this fellow would have one easily, since we spent almost 13 hours dealing with the dozens of details I felt were needed to bring this project to its conclusion. In the end, my customer wanted someone to get the job not only done, but done well. It is amazing just how many steps can be skipped by someone who decides to rush through a project, rather than methodically working it to its completion. We just completed a Kitchen Remodel in Aurora, when we removed the Ceramic Tile floor to prepare the way for the Premium Vinyl Flooring my customer had selected, we found that the previous installer had buried the floor heat register, rather than cutting the tile around it!?? This is fairly commonplace in our experience, sometimes the mistakes are unintentional over sights, sometimes they are almost certainly intentional short cuts that can be comical - when they aren't dangerous. Water damage is a huge problem, even in our dry climate in Colorado. We eliminate many of the usual problem areas by taking a few extra steps in our remodels to avoid future issues. We install Vinyl Tile in our Sink Base Cabinets and Vanities to waterproof these common problem spots. We also suggest to our customers that they place water sensors under the drains in there areas to further reduce the likelihood of a mold/ rotting problem. These units are available at the home centers for about $11 a piece and have saved many folks from dealing with a major mess and clean up. Thank you to these nice folks for taking the time to tell their story Uncle Brian"
"Thanks for your Review!! People are really busy these days - so when someone takes the time to share an experience to benefit others - I think that's swell. My nephew did this project - he worked with me for almost 10 years - he's actually the reason why Uncle Brian's was named Uncle Brian's Home Improvements. Some of our customers started calling me Uncle Brian because they heard that phrase so many times each day. It stuck ... end of story. Well, not really, now my nephew has his own contracting business in sunny California and this uncle couldn't be prouder, though we miss his face around these parts. That's the end of the story - so far Uncle Brian"
When we initially contacted UBHI we gave them our time frame and budget. Brian himself didn't fit into our range but his contractor Kevin did. We discussed a plan with Kevin and were able to start the project a few weeks later. I would also like to say that not only were we knew to this type of project but I also have a tendency to be extremely picky! When it comes to attention to detail I have a "type A" personality and I tend to micromanage any task at hand.
The project started off great, Kevin had everything ripped out in just a few short days. Then things started to slide a bit. Kevin had other commitments outside of UBHI, just as we all do. We were told in advance that he would work shorter hours some days. However, this seemed to show more than we had expected. Kevin would tell us he would be at our home on Saturday at 1030, and he would show up at noon. This became very typical. I expressed my concerns to UBHI and he was very sincere in listening to my frustration about this punctuality issue.
As the project went on we continued to have these types of "issues" along the way. Another example, we were unaware that our garage would be used as the main construction area for cutting tile, wood, dry wall etc. Therefore my husband and I were unable to use our garage for both of our vehicles during the duration of the project. It ended up taking about 5 weeks. Again this caused some frustration when your used to a garage every night and are unaware that you won't have it for an extended period of time.
Clean up was probably my biggest complaint. Yes Kevin and his assistant would "clean" every night but not to any standard that I would hold as efficient. There were always smears over my hard wood floors and drips and smudges around my granite counters and saw dust in our garage. This is where being new to this type of project got the best of us. After talking with friends/family/UBHI it appears this is the way that the majority of these projects go.
Now for the end result, it was FABULOUS!! Even though my husband and I feel we hit some "bumps in the road" and maybe some could have been avoided we were EXTREMELY PLEASED with how our project finished out. Brian was able to send us to some great places in Denver to help maximize our budget for the vanity with granite and the shower door. Kevin did an amazing job on the intricate tile work we requested in the shower and also the diagonal laid tile on the floor. These types cuts are difficult to make and they came out perfect. Kevin also built us custom shelving to maximize hanging space in our new master closet. He really is a craftsman when it comes to what was actually important about our job.
Once our project was complete I sent Brian an email expressing some of my concerns, the same ones that are listed above. We didn't want to "rock the boat" while our project was in progress so I held in my irritations until it was done. Brian was extremely professional and wanted to set up a meeting right away to see our project and properly address my concerns in person. Him and his wife were extremely genuine and really seemed to take my opinions seriously. Now from the day our project was completed I would probably have given Kevin a C and been hesitant to work with this company again. Nevertheless it was a joy to meet Brian and talk with him directly. Not to mention the ample amount of times I spoke with him throughout our project. Even though Kevin was our contractor, Brian is very involved with his company and cares about his customers and their opinions.
After our meeting with Brian, he had Kevin come back to our home for a few more days to do some touch up and address a few things that we again felt were not to our standards. Since Brian and Kevin were able to make the end result exactly what we wanted minus the matters along with way we will give them an A and would definitely hire them for a future project. It helps now having completed this major project for us to know what to anticipate in the future. Had we been more aware in the beginning maybe our issues really wouldn't have seemed so "big" in the end.
Thanks to Brian and his team for making our master bath as beautiful as it could be!
"Thanks so much for your thorough and well written review!! I appreciate it when folks take the time to explain their experience and give others a chance to peer behind the curtains and get a feel for what the process actually involves .[member name removed]job was more complicated than most bathrooms and required a lot of intricate workmanship. I apologized to [member name removed]about Kevin's short days ( Kevin is a Mr. Mom) and reminded her that we discussed it with her prior to starting her project. We definitely take our customers complaints seriously, and [member name removed] had a few legitimate issues that we dealt with immediately, once she shared them with us. Uncle Brian's has several teams these days, all of them put out a quality product and are friendly and courteous, though our first team handles difficult jobs more regularly and usually with less hassle. [member name removed] wanted a custom bathroom without the accompanying custom price tag. We expressed our concerns with her early on, but our first team was booked out too far and a little too pricey for her needs. In the end, [member name removed] got exactly what she wanted and Kevin was forced to step it up and give it his best. I'm glad it ended well and [member name removed] was pleased with her new master bathroom. We are constantly adjusting our methods in an attempt to put the right team with the right customer everyday, it isn't always easy, but I believe we can improve our batting average with each new challenge we face. Our goal is to not only put out a quality product at a fair price, but make the process - well fun, we usually succeed, I think we fell short this time, so back to the drawing board. Our thanks to angieslist for allowing us to work with a lot of very nice folks! Uncle Brian and Family"
"Thank you for your Review! These small projects are usually some of the most demanding because most folks have a list a mile long and expect it to get finished in four hours. We always try to get through their list and are often successful, but I sometimes dread those types of jobs, too much stress. Anyway, I'm glad Kathryn was happy with our performance and glad we could spruce up her nice home a little in the time we had. Uncle Brian"
I purchased a mirror that complimented my new vanity and they built a custom medicine cabinet that went into the wall.
Before we started, I explained I was on a tight budget so Uncle Brian came up with a plan that would stretch my labor dollars. They used my project as what they explained as a ?filler project? which meant they fit me between other jobs. He told me rather than the 2-3 week normal bathroom completion, it could take 8-12 weeks doing it as a ?filler project?. One small hiccup we encountered was that my toilet didn?t operate properly when the job was done. When I called, they came out the next day and everything has been working perfectly ever since. The project did take about 9 weeks from start to finish. I?m very happy with my new custom bathroom!
"your Review!! This project was a little unusual in the fact that we wanted to do a complete bathroom makeover without the complete makeover price tag. My customer knew exactly what she wanted, but was flexible with her schedule and some higher ticket items. I gave her some "homework", which was to source out affordable bathroom materials without sacrificing quality. I pointed her in the right direction and she was off and running. She was able to locate a number of the items on our list "on sale", which made us both happy! We started her project when we had enough materials on hand and continued one bite at a time. Dee saved herself a substantial sum by cleaning up the jobsite each time we worked on her bathroom and by doing her own finish work. It took longer than our normal 3-4 week schedule, but in the end she had the bathroom she wanted for a price that she could handle. We will work with our customers, when they have the necessary time and skills available. On another topic, I find that some of our customers struggle unnecessarily through their improvement due to a lack of creating a project budget. Example : We recently did a Kitchen makeover. The total price tag ended in the $18000 area, with cabinets, appliances and Labor. My customer spent $3300 on her fridge because she "fell in love" with it. This fridge was too pricey for this particular project and caused us to sacrifice in other equally important areas. I think if my customer had worked up a budget, it would have highlighted her need to reduce the cost of several items, in order to get to the finish line easier. It's not that I'm against an expensive fridge, I enjoy watching our customers pull together their dream kitchen. My point is : there are many purchases that are required to bring it all together. When someone has a limited budget (pretty much everyone) it helps to look at all the costs - to determine where the money will be spent. That kind of planning will allow someone to "see", that their expensive countertop is eating into their flooring budget, or vice versa. Uncle Brian"
"Thanks for your Review!! This project came in at $5500 which was high for a double French door project, my clients decided on custom made Poplar French Doors to replace their poor quality slider. We reviewed the options with them before they chose their doors. It's always pricey to go with custom made doors, but when the budget allows, most folks are happy with their choice and feel they got their moneys worth. That's really where the rubber meets the road, I always want our customers to feel they got their moneys worth and more. I don't like to quote a low price and then tack on extras at every turn. I'd rather quote a price that will cover the projects costs and end up under budget, that is not that unusual at UBHI. We will usually do the "extras" our customers want at little or no extra charge when the budget allows. No one seems to mind this, and everyone likes the "freebies" we provide when there's money left over to pay for them. We just finished a Kitchen remodel for a nice couple in Longmont, they were going to do their powder room remodel themselves, not because they wanted to, but in order to save money. When we were almost done with the kitchen remodel, we looked at our numbers and realized we had enough left over to do their powder room too! They were surprised that we offered to get it done at no extra charge, and we were happy to make this family believers. We're not in business to break the bank, we're here to assist our customers, to get them the home they want at a reasonable price, and when things work out, to go beyond our promises. We walk a fine line between keeping our company strong enough to assist the next customer and doing what we can to dazzle our present ones. We know what it feels like to be ripped off, and we will never do this to our clients, not as long as I have something to say about it. Thanks to angieslist for another great year! Uncle Brian"
"Thank you for your Review! It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since we worked at this property. (deleted member name) called and wanted to discuss a new Front door for his Home in Aurora. We discussed the options - I let him know that I'm not a fan of steel front doors. The quality of these doors has steadily dropped over the past ten years. I only recommend these doors for the garage as an entry door, due to their fire rating. I suggested (deleted member name) consider a Fiberglass or Wooden Front Door for his lovely Home. After he decided on a Fiberglass Door, we discussed his Hardware options. I suggested a Baldwin Handleset because of their quality and value. He special ordered one he found online and we installed it on his Front Door. I'm glad he was satisfied with the results, it's been a year since we completed this job. The Door and Handleset have proven themselves reliable and able to stand up to what the weather and the average family dishes out. Some home improvement products that you'll find at the Home Centers these days have become so Cheap (and I don't mean pricewise) that I recommend all our customers avoid them. Choosing between a quality product and one that belongs in the dumpster has become a big part of the job. After the front door installation, (deleted member name) asked me to look at his picture window. The seal had failed between his glass panes and condensation had made a mess of his garden view. We replaced this large insulated panel with a new one, but at the conclusion of the project, found an imperfection between the glass panes. I guess you could call it a smudge, I called it heartburn. I got on the horn with the glass supplier and explained our problem. I scheduled an appointment between my customer and the owner for the following morning. When we left later that day, I asked (deleted member name) to contact me after this meeting to tell me how it went. (deleted member name) called the following day to say the app't was postponed until the next day. Well, now the story gets more interesting, the glass company owner never called or showed for this app't. I called over the next several days and finally received an apology and an offer of a discount for a future project. I decided to cut my losses and stop dealing with this company. I offered (deleted member name) money back to see if that would bring this issue to a conclusion. He said he'd prefer a new glass panel, so I ordered it from a new supplier and prepared for a rare Round Two. The new piece arrived ontime and squeaky clean, the old smudged piece was returned to the first vendor. (deleted member name) was pleased with his new window and I had a new glass supplier, all was well. Why did I bother to explain this story? I became frustrated with this problem and wanted it to go away, so I offered (deleted member name) some of his money back. He wanted a new piece of glass and told me so, I was wrong to offer a discount as the "fix" to this situation. (deleted member name) finally got what he wanted and I had to admit to myself, that I could have handled this situation better and would handle it better in the future. (deleted member name) was gracious not to get into the details, but I thought a hard look at this job was worth the time. Uncle Brian"
"Well this one is a bit of mystery to me. I don't think we worked for this nice lady or at least I don't think we installed flooring. I appreciate the nice review - but I think it's misplaced. Uncle Brian"
Uncle Brian met with me to discuss what we wanted to do our kitchen. He spent over an hour discussing all our options. Then he came back to do final measurements.
He made suggestions that saved a lot of money for example on our floor. I would never of picked the flooring option he recommended on my own. Now I think it is better than any tile or other hard surface.
Uncle Brian took a half a day on a Saturday to spend with me looking at counter tops at various stores.
He also help me sell my old kitchen cabinets and appliances by posting them on Craig's list, coming up with fair prices and fielding phone calls.
He was in constant communication through out the process letting me know status on every phase.
Over the years I have had many contractor experiences that ranged from horrible to mediocre. Uncle Brian is the best there ever was. We have already begun plans to have him back next year to start another project. I would never use anyone else.
"Wow! Rarely, does a review leave me speechless and a little teary. Well- maybe not speechless. When I first met with (deleted member name), she already had a nice kitchen and I was a bit surprised she wanted to start from scratch. Most kitchens we redo are past their usefulness and ready for the dumpster. As we approach the finish line on (deleted member name) project, I can see that although her last kitchen was functional, it certainly fell far short of her new custom one. It thrills me to take someone's vision or dream and turn it into reality, especially when they are as fun to work for as (deleted member name)! After 30 years of transforming peoples houses into homes, I've dealt with every possible personality. When we have the pleasure of working with someone as nice as (deleted member name), I can relax and perform at my best. Demanding folks are usually a little unreasonable, they make it difficult to shine, because of the unnecessary tension that's always just under the surface. Think about it, if you had the choice to work for a easy going person or a demanding one, which one would you want to please more. I usually can't wait to finish and move on to the next project when dealing with the latter. Why am I sharing this with you all? I believe that some folks think they need to be demanding to get their money's worth and the best possible result. In my experience, if you need to resort to this type of behavior with your contractor, you've chosen the wrong one. That's not to say that there's never a time to insist on better performance or request that something be redone. Unreasonable expectations, I believe, are a force that get a lot of folks all worked up during the renovation process. What is a reasonable period of time to go from start to finish on a given project? What should the homeowner do to facilitate the process? Let's face it, Remodeling can be stressful, good communication with your team is a critical component in keeping things on track, on time and on budget. Expecting nothing to go awry is an unreasonable position to hold. Something will go wrong, the cabinets will be delivered with minor flaws and the faucet might need to be swapped due to a small leak. This is a part of every project, setbacks that need to be dealt with in order to get to the finish line successfully. We're almost to that treasured finish line on (deleted member name) project. It's been nearly four weeks since we showed up at her door ready to get to work. In that time, we demoed her kitchen, relocated lights - outlets and switches, added a gas line (for her new dual fuel range), installed her new cabinets with crown moldings and under cabinet lighting, installed temporary countertops and sink, installed new premium vinyl flooring in the kitchen, laundry room and foyer, installed all new appliances, installed granite countertops, installed her new under mount sink and faucet, installed tile back splash and placed her old cabinets on craigslist for sale. We still need to install 4 more pull out trays that have been on back order and install under cabinet moldings. I hope to have her kitchen completed, soup to nuts- in the next few days, bringing this job to a conclusion in just under five weeks. We could have done it a little faster, but- people get colds and snow happens! Uncle Brian"
"Thanks for the nice review! Always a pleasure helping nice folks make their home special. The builders do a nice job, these days, on the structure of the home (most of the time), but fall short when it comes to the details. We add the finishing touches and allow our customers to personalize their home and make it their own. We get a lot of satisfaction throughout this process, it always neat to watch folks customize "their space". Keying locks alike is a small detail, but one that makes life a little bit easier, and one that makes most people happy. I'm always on the lookout for those "little things" that make a difference in peoples' lives. Shopping with folks and helping them "pick out" their materials is another area I've found that makes people feel good, so we shop and shop and try to make it into a fun experience! Enjoy The Spring! Uncle Brian"
"THANKS for your review and your patience! [member name removed] requested we install transom windows above her existing windows last winter. Her project was complicated because of the exterior - stone veneer and masonry stucco. I explained that we'd need to create the openings and then order her new windows. She agreed to our plan of action and now has her beautiful new windows. This project started back in late January and was just completed two weeks ago. We knew going in that we were up against a difficult job and some difficult weather. We couldn't have had a successful conclusion if [member name removed] would have rushed the process. She didn't and I think she's glad she didn't! Uncle Brian"
"Thanks for your Review!! I like to try new things and do things a little different when the situation calls for something a bit out of the ordinary. As long as it doesn't involve cutting corners or going outside of safety codes. Every once in a while, a customer will ask me to do something kooky that violates building code or common sense safety concerns. I recently had such a conversation with a customer who wanted me to install old fashioned saloon style doors in his basement doorway. I explained to him that a swinging door cannot swing over a staircase due to safety issues and was definitely against building code. He explained he wasn't concerned about the codes and wanted that type of door in that location. I attempted to reason with him, suggesting it could also be dangerous for his small children. When I realized I wasn't making any headway, I told him I couldn't install a saloon door at the top of his stairs and hoped he'd reconsider. The point of the story is ... I have a responsibility to my clients to be the professional, at times, that means saying " no" I can't do that. Sure, I want to please our customers, but sometimes it's more important to do what's right and risk the consequences. On a similar front We make a lot of commitments to our customers, they deserve our best efforts and respect. At times, we get more requests for estimates and services than we can handle. We do our best to get back to folks in a timely manner, but we always maintain our focus on the job at hand. Sometimes, that upsets some people. The point of the story... If we dropped everything and ran over to assist this person in distress, what would stop another caller from grabbing our attention with a better story or bigger wallet? My point is this - We've made commitments to folks, they've waited for their turn "at bat", sometimes for as much as 3 months! I won't let a demanding consumer jump in front of them, it's that simple. If you visit the amusement parks these days, they have special passes to allow folks to jump in front of others waiting in line. I hope we (Uncle Brian's) never resort to this type of tactic. I for one thinks it's a bit rude. Now don't misunderstand, I'm not suggesting that folks should wait patiently while their basement is filling with water due to a ruptured pipe. Other businesses deal with these kinds of emergencies. We don't usually deal with this type of call and we're not set up to handle it quickly. When something happens that requires our immediate attention, we handle it - but we can't allow this on a routine basis. I believe our customers deserve better. Thanks for allowing me to vent! I'm so pleased (member name removed) and his wife were happy with their "new" bedroom and elated we could get it done on budget and time. Uncle Brian and Family"
"Thank you for your honest and to the point review. It takes courage to say what's on your mind. I always admire and appreciate an upfront customer, frankly, it's nice to know where you stand and with Mike I always knew. Let's address his criticisms in an effort to lessen their reoccurrence on future projects. Member stated that he felt we charged for items that should have been included in our initial bid. He mentions a faucet and is referring to his kitchen sink faucet. Actually, this particular kitchen has 3 separate faucets. The faucet in question is a touch sensitive faucet - one that turns on with the touch of a finger. Our initial bid included installing a normal kitchen faucet, one that is factory assembled and installs in about 90 minutes. Member's faucet required assembly with more than 25 parts, installation time exceeded 3 hours. I decided to upcharge this faucet installation $35 due to its complexity, but added a section to our invoice marked "optional" and instructed member to cross out any charges in the optional area he felt were unreasonable. This type of misunderstanding can be eliminated by communicating accurately in advance just what it is that needs to be done. In Mike's case, many of the items that were to be installed were not yet purchased, so misunderstandings like this are sometimes unavoidable. I usually shop with our clients and assist in the selection of their project materials, this additional step eliminates misunderstandings almost entirely - since it allows us to discuss the possibility of added labor costs for certain labor intensive items. Another item I believe Mike is referring to is a pendant above his island. I charged him $50 on his initial bid and added $35 to his final invoice, again in the optional area. Mike's wife told me to figure on a pendant light above the island, when the fixture showed up 10 weeks later, it was unassembled and contained over 30 parts. This unassembled 10 light ceiling mounted light fixture was not in my initial budget. Installation took almost 2 1/2 hours with 2 men.. I decided to add this upcharge to our invoice "in the optional area" to allow Mike the option of paying us for what was actually installed. to be continued... Uncle Brian"
I asked him where he wanted to set up; he was easy with the garage.
He plotted his work from there to the kitchen door, kitchen flooring, stairs up and down.
He was very systematic. A pleasure to watch.
"Thank you [member name removed] for taking the time to Review Uncle Brian's! We have received several complaints this past year from folks who accused us of not wanting to do their project because of its size. [member name removed]'s project was rather small, but we were happy to assist him. He made it possible by allowing us to get him into our tight schedule. I explained to him that we would get to his job in about eight weeks and that we'd try to make it "worth the wait". It sounds like we succeeded. I hope your next project ends up in a happy place too! Home Improvementing requires a lot of planning and patience. Without them, it usually ends up in overtime. Uncle Brian"
The best thing about working with Brian was that he was willing to do whatever we wanted him to and nothing more. We were working on a budget and he gave us lots of advice, let us shop for materials and adjusted his schedule to work with us.
When all was said and done, Brian and his crew had replaced our tub and surround, retiled our kitchen floor, added additional kitchen lighting, installed moulding around our main floor and did some additional work that popped up during the project. All the work was high quality, finished timely and at a very reasonable cost.
Most of the work we had done was to prepare our house for sale and when we buy a new home we will definitely be contacting Uncle Brian again.
"Thanks for your kind Review! Not all our jobs run like clock work, sometimes materials don't arrive on time. Sometimes, our trucks break down or our crew needs some down time to deal with a cold or a sore back. When this stuff happens, we appreciate our customers being flexible. When their schedule changes abruptly or they need to deal with an unexpected illness, we offer the same courtesy and do what we can to accommodate them. This whole process works so much better when we remember that we all deal with "stuff" that pops up - and sometimes it requires us to adjust our plans to allow time to regroup. . I'm pleased to hear that we exceeded this couples expectations, that's our goal - everyday. Uncle Brian"
