Kitchen and Bath Remodeling, Finished Carpentry and Woodworking, General Remodeling,

About us

Uncle Brian has 39 years of experience in the Home Improvement Industry and has completed thousands of jobs -leaving many customers not only satisfied, but feeling they received more than they were promised. Treating Clients as I would want to be treated is my philosophy in business and life in general. I have undertaken projects in various aspects of the Home Improvement business and specialize in Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling, as well as the Installation of Interior and Exterior Doors. My strengths include (1) Finding Real Value and completing jobs with quality materials at a price I would be willing to pay! (2) Our slogan is "Getting it Done Right -the First Time" and this is the principle I use to bring Real Value to Each new Client. (3) I rarely ask for money upfront -unless I'm ordering Special Order Materials. (3) Simply stated, I enjoy making peoples' dreams a reality and making the process more of a pleasure than a hassle. (4) I come prepared to get your project complete with the experience and equipment necessary to get your project done right - the first time! I'm equipped to handle small to midsize projects that require Quality Results. Our specialties are Kitchen & Bathroom Remodels and Window & Door Installations. Each year we receive hundreds of requests for quotes that don't fall within our specialties. We provide free estimates for well over 100 projects per year, but we do not give free estimates to everyone that calls - for the following 4 reasons: 1. When our calendar is closed, we do not estimate new jobs. 2. We only supply free estimates to folks in our service area. 3. We decide which jobs to quote based on our prior commitments, manpower, and experience, among other things. 4. Our minimum labor for free estimates is $5,000. We Don't Work On RENTAL Properties, but if you're a landlord, we'd be happy to work on your primary residence. Due to federal regulations (EPA), we don't work on houses older than 1970. Thanks, Uncle Brian

Since this was a small job, Brian stated he would be working around other larger jobs. When I was ready for him to come and rip out or install items, there never really was a delay. I communicated mostly through email and he was very efficient in making arrangements with me. His wife worked as his secretary and was very efficient in answering my questions and responding. I was impressed that he strove to perform an excellent job. He worked in a methodical manner and was efficient time wise. Also, I was impressed that he was an experienced problem solver. His nephew, Josiah, installed most of the plumbing and was very knowledgeable and also had a professional manner. The valve that came with the tub faucet did not fit the existing pipework inside the wall. (My plumbing knowledge is lacking here and my explanation may be somewhat incorrect.) Instead of making a hole in the wall on the out side of the tiled shower and outside of the bathroom, they exchanged the valve I bought for one that would work. This significantly decreased the expense, so, I add honesty to my list. I had a problem with a local chain retail carpet and floor company. They botched the installation of the vinyl floor and it delayed completion of the bathroom by several weeks while I negotiated with them for a refund and then hired another company. Brian was very patient waiting to install the toilet and finish the job and get the final payment. I had paid 3/4 of the bill when most of the work had been done. I would not hesitate to hire him again and I am confident he would do an excellent job at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: In a small bathroom, the cabinet, counter, mirror, sink and faucet was removed as was the shower/tub faucet, handles, and tub plug and toilet. Brian and his workers installed a new cabinet, mirror, marble counter, sink and faucet, tub faucet, handle and tub plug, towel bar and ring, toilet paper holder, light fixture and toilet. The charges were for labor and plumbing and light fixture parts. I purchased everything else and I repaired and painted the walls and trim.

Thanks for your Review!! We do what we can to accommodate our clients and work within their schedules whenever possible. We've been running on all cylinders lately after spending the past three years mostly waiting for this economy to right itself. Many thanks to Angieslist and its members for putting this small company back to work. On another note - we are recent transplants from the East coast where we ran a Home Improvement Business for 25 years. We worked almost exclusively for a select list of clients and only dealt with new customers on a referral basis. Angieslist has turned our small business on its head and forced us to rethink many of our established routines. We are now dealing with a greater diversity of folks and are doing our best to find our nitch and satisfy ALL our new clients. We've had our best year in some time but struggled to please 100% of our customers. I'm happy to hear that Jane was in the happy column. We'll be working to get our 97% average up to 99% in the coming months and hope to accommodate more of you in the coming year. Ours is a family business and we take it very seriously, when your family asks our family for assistance on a project - we understand it means you're putting your trust in us. I believe that trust should never be taken for granted, so you have my pledge - we will treat your home as if it were ours and treat your project with the respect it desires. Merry Christmas From our Family to Yours Uncle Brian

In my opinion the job could not have gone better. I am already creating a list of things for the coming Spring!
Description of Work: We are thrilled with the new door and stairs! Uncle Brian's was an excellent contractor and took on a project that 4 other contractors 'opted out' of when they saw the age of the house, the brick walls that would need to be re-cut to fit a new door and the difficult stairway that needed to be re-created to fit in the existing space. The project included; removing and replacing an original backdoor to our 1928 Brick Tudor and rebuilding the stringers, risers and tops of the back staircase. Uncle Brian's estimate was very fair and his knowledge of old homes with tough doorways was unprecedented. He took care of ordering a new solid wood door, cutting the brick opening to fit the new door and installing everything. At the same time, his crew removed the old stairs, crafted new stringers to fit the funky measurements and rebuilt everything in just two days. We utilized Home Depot to install new carpet once the re-build was completed and now we have a door that is 10 times as solid as the original, weatherproof and draft free. Plus we have a new staircase that does not squeek and is spaced evenly all the way down so it is easier to walk on and much nicer to look at. While the crew was there, Uncle Brian also replaced some rotting facia under a rain gutter on the front of the house. He knew exactly what he was doing and got everything done in two days. The work site was always clean when they left and they even worked around our two kids who were very curious to see everything they were doing. The project increased the value of our home and was done in the most professional manner I have encountered in a long time!

Thanks so much for your Review!! We've worked hard these past 11 1/2 months to please our customers. Angieslist has helped us to expand our business this past year and introduced us to many nice folks. We are grateful for the opportunity to work for you all and will do everything we can to go above and beyond your expectations in the coming year. We are thrilled to have received angieslist "Super Service Award" this year, though, this honor is tempered by the fact that we disappointed a few folks. We will be implementing a few changes in 2013 in an attempt to Improve our Home Improvement Company. Growing pains seems to be what's in store for us for 2013. Thanks to our customers for a super year and Thanks to angieslist for putting this small company back to work. Merry Christmas to All Uncle Brian and Company

The work done was adequate. The workers were unprofessional as evidenced by the beer cans they left in my trash - after consuming beers at my house, while they were working.
Description of Work: the owner and his son arrived on time, looked at the three jobs to be done and sent me to Home Depot with shopping list. they removed a medicine cabinet and light, installed a dog door, and built a gate for my fence.

I will have to disagree with this customer, which for me is quite unusual. I would usually let this sort of thing slide, but I feel I need to deal with it front and center. We deal with a great diversity of folks, we've worked for poor people and middle class folks, we've worked for millionaires and even a few billionaires. We've completed projects after having worked for a few days or weeks and have had many folks pop a bottle of champagne to thank us and celebrate their "new" project. A little background to fill in some of the details concerning this job. The time frame was August and we were in a heat wave, I believe it had topped 95 degrees for about 8 days. We were hired for 4 hours to build a gate and accomplish some other tasks while Theresa shopped for some supplies. She was gone almost the entire time we worked and hadn't returned by the time we finished that evening. After her list of projects were completed and we were cleaned up, I asked my nephew if we still had any beer left from the 6 pack a customer gave us as a tip a few days earlier. My nephew said we had 2 left and I asked him to fetch them so we could enjoy a cold beer before we left. We drank our beer and locked the house and left it as we found it. We weren't drinking while we worked on this project, though, I've had many customers offer us a beer during work hours. I almost always ask them to inquire again - when we're finished. I appreciate my digits and am well aware that drinking alcohol and power tools don't go together well. This customer assumed that we had been drinking during the project, we drank one beer each after a very long hot day - for that I don't feel I need to apologize, although, I do recognize that this customer is the queen of her castle and she alone calls the shots. I would of course honor her wishes if I had been aware of them. I've had folks request that we not use their bathroom during a particular project, that may seem strange, though we honor these types of requests when we can. Often our customers will tell us to help ourselves to a cold drink in the fridge. That was not the case this time, we couldn't even help ourselves to our drink in our cooler. I've hired contractors many times to work on my properties, since I am in this business I am sensitive to the needs of the guys "outside" an make it a point to provide some libations. I certainly wouldn't condone or allow them to get loaded while working, nor do I allow it on my jobs - period, having a beer at the end of a long hot day - is another matter. Uncle Brian

I can?t say enough good things about Uncle Brian?s Home Improvements. The boys and Brian were a delight to work with as well as very professional. I had a new shower stall put in with tile and the works. The tile was beyond belief and the job came out great! The workmanship was to perfection. I can honestly say they go above and beyond expectations. I would definitely use them again and again.

Thanks for your review! The customer's project turned out beautifully because we worked well together. She incorporated most of my suggestions into her bathroom renovation, which is usually a major plus. Let's face it : most folks don't eat / sleep and dream about Kitchens and Bathrooms. They have other things to keep them busy. After almost 30 years of Home Improvementing, I've figured out what works and what doesn't. Many of my clients are remodeling their first Kitchen or Bathroom, I prefer that they get to the finish line without alot of - I wish I had done this or that differently. I have asked many of my clients over the decades to think through their project and tell me what changes they'd make, if any. The majority respond that they can't think of any changes that would improve the end result. That's Magical! and where I'd like to end with all our clients. By all means, get involved with the design and try to pinpoint exactly what it is your'e trying to accomplish, then take some direction (or suggestions) from your contractor of choice. Allow his / her experience to work for you and smooth out the whole process. If you discover along the way that your choice of contractors was poor, do what you can to hire someone that knows the ropes. Take reponsibility for your project, if you've chosen the wrong contractor the last time, what did you learn from that experience and how will you avoid repeating that mistake next time? Angieslist makes hiring a contractor easier - but it's still not foolproof. Some homeowners get to the end of a botched project and blame everyone - including the babysitter! Those folks need to make better decisions and realize that - when things don't work out the way they planned, they have noone to blame- but themselves. Lastly, when a contractor performs poorly during a particular project, why allow him to start other projects in your home? I've spoken to folks whose homes have been ruined by a D-F contractor and asked them why they let it go on for so long and get to this point. Most shrug their shoulders and can't answer, obviously, this is not the norm - but it happens often enough to affect lots of people. Don't be one of them. Good Luck with your next Home Improvement Merry Christmas to All Uncle Brian

I had called Uncle Brian's early Sunday evening on November 25th not knowing if I would even be able to catch them at the time, and to my surprise, I did. With a strict work schedule during the week, I was able to schedule an appointment for them to come out the next Saturday. I was given a small window of when they would be on site, and sure enough they were right in the middle of the window. The two gentlemen that appeared (Kevin and James) installed two ceiling fans and switches and did it perfectly. Afterwards, they were very accommodating to spend a few additional moments as I discussed a few other ideas that I had around my home that I was interested in help with. I hope that we are able to work an arrangement to continue again soon.
Description of Work: Installation of two ceiling fans...one with a cathedral ceiling at a height of approximately 12 feet; and updated two standard switches to speed adjustable switches for both fans.

Thanks for your Review! We do what we can to please our customers usually by exceeding their expectations. Most of our clients have worked with other contractors in the past, so many of them start out with a skeptical attitude. We try to allay any fears they have about previous experiences by getting their job done right - the first time. FYI - I've seen lots of poor quality workmanship out in the field recently. This makes it more difficult for everyone, due to the fact that homeowners are frequently given bids that are quite varied. They (homeowners) don't want to believe that some of these attractive prices will end with them in a very unhappy place. I'd like to be able to show others the things I've seen, to help lessen some of these problems for the folks. Do yourself a favor- when hiring a contractor - Go to a recently completed job and ask some questions. Better still, visit the jobsite of the contractor you're considering hiring, this of course takes time - but it's much better than ending up in a worse place than you were when you started. I'm rambling because I've seen too much of this lately - don't let it happen to you. Uncle Brian

I'm almost hesitant to write this review as we have many more projects lined up for them and don't want to compete for their time :) I cannot say a negative word about Uncle Brian, their work, their professionalism, the end result, anything. They are excellent all around and we are so happy to have found such an amazing contractor. Brian was initially here for a short visit (4 hours of handyman big deal). Please see my previous review on that. Afterwards, I contacted him because I noticed they also did windows, and we needed to replace several in our family room. Brian quickly set us straight on what was causing the drafts in the room, which saved us a lot of money as we would have replaced the wrong windows. He worked with us to find windows that we liked and were within our budget, went above and beyond to ensure that all discounts he had access to were applied, designed a gorgeous frame that fit with the style of the rest of the house, tore out and improved the ledges, and was flexible with scheduling. I had to be away during the installation and he kept me up to date daily with what was going on. He even painted a couple of the crown molding to see if a contrast in colors would work - in the end it didn't but it was a fun suggestion and above and beyond what he needed to do. He also noted a manufacturer's defect in the windows, contacted the manufacturer and got them to come out and correct the issue - we didn't have to lift a finger on it at all. While all of this was going on, he noticed that we had a few cracks and a major area that had to be patched in our exterior stucco. Unbeknownst to us, he took it upon himself to patch and seal them, which we had been trying to get fixed for months. He even did post work and fixed the root issue that was causing the cracks in the first place. It was an awesome surprise and a huge weight off of our shoulders. It also exemplifies one of the best qualities they have, in that they don't sit around and wait, and good enough is never enough for them. They always look for a way to make your home better, and their quality is never less than excellent. We are extremely happy with our cosy 'new' room, love the way it finishes the part of the house now, and could not be more pleased with this company. Brian treats your home with the respect that he would his own, he is creative and flexible and demands only the best quality of work from himself and his crew. He is onsite and personally supervises each job, he works with you as far as budget and what you want to do, and gives you white glove service from beginning to end.

Thanks for your review! Kitchen projects are always a challenge due to their complexity and the fact that most people have only one kitchen. Getting it back up and running quickly is certainly high on our list of priorities. We accomplish this by employing several tactics that keep our downtime to an absolute minimum. First, we try to have most of the materials either on the jobsite or at our location to ,eliminate potential delays. Second, we minimize the use of subs to keep things moving along. Daytime hours are for getting the nuts and bolts of the project underway. Nightime is for planning the next days schedule of activities. These two elements are critical to the overall success of the project and completing it on schedule. Third, we don't let the fact that we don't install countertops slow us down. We simply keep things moving forward by installing temporary plywood countertops, this allows us to reconnect the sink and dishwasher and get each kitchen up and running sooner then expected. We usually have a 3 week wait for the new countertops, but our customer can use their new kitchen in the meantime. This particular couple had planned on having family come to visit about 9 days after we started their project. They asked me if I was certain their kitchen would be functioal after 5-6 days. I assured them that was not only the plan, but we usually deliver ontime or ahead of schedule. They told me their parents commented that it wasn't possible and they should expect delays. End of story-no delays- other than the silestone countertop they chose, nevertheless, their kitchen was operational in 5 days! Another happy ending minus the frustration. Note : Uncle Brian's has more then 50 reviews now, 98% are A's and B's, 2 of the 3 negative grades are from folks we never worked for. Our "at bat" customers always come first, even over potential and future clients. This is the only way to deliver a quality product year after year. Each day, we make many decisions to keep our focus on delivering on our promises and staying on schedule. New projects pop up daily, sometimes hourly. At times, we are forced to pass on some of them to keep commitments we've already made. Happy Thanksgiving to the angieslist family Uncle Brian and family

I could not be more excited with the way our kitchen turned out. It's exactly as we wanted it. In looking for a contractor to complete our kitchen remodel, we wanted someone that would do it right the first time and pay attention to all the details involved in a project like this. We have an older home and wanted to make sure it was all done right. Brian was exactly what we were looking for. He not only did a great job doing what we asked, he did a great job of handling the details that we would have never known about. I cannot recommend Brian highly enough. He is also honest and trustworthy in everyway. Due to the age of the home and the layout of the kitchen, it required a lot of "customization" to fit everything in the space that we had. There were also several issues that popped up due to the older plumbing and electrical work. Brian made it all work. He also was able to do a lot of custom wood work that we wanted. Our custom wainscoting is something we are proud to show off and sets our kitchen apart from everyone else's (I wish I could include a picture). Also, he built custom crown molding for our cabinets since the ceiling was uneven. It turned out great and looks fantastic. Anyone that sees our kitchen raves about the beauty and quality of it. Definitely consider Brian if your looking at any home remodeling.
Description of Work: Brian did a complete remodel of our kitchen. This included replacing all cabinets, installing a new dish washer and range hood, new sink, faucet and plumbing, new electrical outlets added, tiling for the backsplash, and custom wainscoting in our breakfast nook area. The project also included moving some heat ventilation and existing outlets.

Thanks for your Review! We always love hearing our customers were delighted with our service because we make every effort to make their experience pleaseureable. This project like most was not without it's challenges, but my clients rolled well with the punches and ultimately got what they wanted. I don't want to give the impression that our jobs all go smoothly and get done on time and on budget because they don't. That however, is our goal - especially the budget part. We make it a policy not to gouge our clients with expensive extras, when they come up - we deal with them fairly for both parties and at times don't charge at all. Our success can be summed up quite succinctly - treat others the way we want to be treated -pretty simple really. We're in business to make money, but we're not here to rip consumers off. We give value to our clients by getting their projects done professionally minus the heartburn. We wish you all a Very Merry Christmas Uncle Brian and Family

All was going fairly well, until "Uncle Brian" just dropped off the face of the earth. Since the end of October, I've sent emails, one quite detailed, describing products I'd found online that I hoped to order for use in the bathroom remodel. We'd spent an afternoon at Lowe's looking at products, and Brian sent someone over to show me an "antique white" that I might like. I didn't care for the color, so I went online to find a white vanity on my own. I am having surgery very soon and will be recovering over the holidays. I had hoped to have the bathroom remodel details settled by surgery time in order to have the work done by Christmas. Now I'm back to Square One, with no contractor, no explanation WHY the sudden silence, and no 'new' bathroom. No, I won't use Brian, and no, I can't recommend him.
Description of Work: Brian or his wife contacted me about a bathroom remodel. We exchanged many emails; they were over twice: once to look the job over, and another time to measure and to price products at Lowe's. We exchanged a couple more emails; then silence. I've sent 2 emails since 11/1/12, but have received no response.

I left this review unanswered purposely to make the point that we cannot please everyone at all times. I will give a brief explanation of the events that transpired and will agree with everything that the member stated in her review. Let's start with the member- she's a very nice lady. We are sorry she needed us most at the very time we were preparing to take our annual 2 week vacation (this year to Cancun, Mexico). We met with her personally to discuss her project and then again to do some preliminary shopping. We spoke to her on the phone on several occasions and exchanged emails repeatedly. Her project was scheduled about 5 - 6 weeks out when she informed my wife that she was dealing with a rather serious medical issue. I called her a couple of days before our trip to discuss some issues concerning her upcoming project, she said she was at the hospital and asked me to call another time. My wife informed me later that same day that she had sent an email about possibly postponing her project until springtime. She (my wife) suggested I back off and give her some space during this stressful period. I agreed. We left for vacation, hoping we had handled everything - but knowing stuff happens. When we arrived back in the states, we were saddened to see that she didn't want us to back off, but needed us. We felt badly about letting her down. We wish her well and hope she finds the right company to deal with her renovation. We do our best to satisfy our clients - some fall thru the cracks - we're sorry she was one of them. Lastly, the communication between contractor and client is vital to the success of any project, when problems arise (and they often do) calmly look for solutions and address the problem directly- enough said. We were in the process of relocating to Nebraska. After our house went under contract we were told our back deck would have to have handrails installed before the closing date. I called several different contractors only to have them not return my call or not show up to give me an estimate. Brian not only answered his phone but came over and gave me a quote right away. They showed up and completed the work exactly when he said he would and they done a great job. I would recommend them to anyone!

Thanks for taking the time during your move to review Uncle Brian's! Some customers get a hold of me on their first try and everything just works out smoothly - that's always cool. BUT, if I don't answer your call immediately, why not try 2 or 3 times, or better yet - call and email us. I even learned how to text - for my younger customers! Let me tell you a secret - if I'm in need of a contractor - I'll call repeatedly, sometimes as many as 10 times in a 2 day period. I don't get rude or pushy, I just don't want them to forget about my call. I want them to know my name and the purpose of my call and I want them to DREAM about it - until they return it. That technique almost always works and it's rather simple. I just keep calling - until I get some satisfaction. I'm not suggesting to call a company repeatedly in a matter of minutes but days. I hope that helps some of you to connect with a busy provider. Uncle Brian

They did good quality work. They were very responsive when we first contacted them in fitting us into their very busy schedule. We live out of town and it was a real challenge trying to coordinate things. Brian took great care of scheduling and getting the crews in the house when they were scheduled. They did good quality work and had great communication. They kept us informed on what was going on and ensured that were were getting good quality of items. They were personable and nice to work with. We had a very cordial relationship with Brian and his workers. Overall, we are very pleased that we found them and grateful for the good work that that did.
Description of Work: They helped us with three houses we were rehabbing after they had been rental homes. They did a lot of refurbishing from changing light fixtures, swapping out hardware, fixing sink areas, removed countertops, repairing railing on a deck, redoing some walls, repaired tile in the shower and much more.

Thanks for your review! Member had 6 houses to renovate and sell due to a death in the family. We were first contacted after they had already dealt with 4 of the houses. It was a pleasure dealing with the Customer because they were organized and made quick decisions when neccessary. I was very happy to hear from the Customer that we were the best company they hired through their long ordeal. I went to work on a Sunday afternoon to get a jump start on the weeks work and discovered a ruptured water pipe in the basement. I turned the water off and vacuumed the large puddle. We later discovered that a nail had punctured the copper pipe. It was repaired and the water was turned back on - total cost about $60. It is our policy not to overcharge for extras that come up during the course of a project. Since they live out of state, we kept them updated with plenty of photos via email of work in progress.

Uncle Brian sent a quite, clean, quick team of 2 men to diagnose our water pressure/refrigerator problem. They found a way to increase the water pressure going to the fridge. (low pressure had caused the premature "burn out" of 2 valves that make the water dispenser work. The eliminated the the needle valve and copper tubing and installed new pipes and a shut off valve in a nice looking junction box in the wall behind the fridge. Now our whole house has better water pressure, our fridge's water dispenser is working, and they even soaked all of our faucet aerators in CLR so everything is flowing nicely throughout the house. They were in and out in under 3 hours, the price matched the estimate, and we couldn't be happier with the results!
Description of Work: Increased Home's water pressure. Installed pipe and shut off valve for refrigerator. Hooked up fridge to new water source.

Thanks for your review! We do our best on a daily basis to turn first time customers into lifelong clients. We get our ideas from a myriad of businesses that deliver a quality product or service and go beyond merely satisfying our need by making the whole process enjoyable - to boot. My wife and I are always looking for new ways to deliver a quality product or service, so when we are really wowed by a companies performance, we dissect their procedures. What made our experience so positive and how can we incorporate their successful delivery into our business? This type of thinking is what allows us to get into the mindset of our customers, after all, we are both consumers, we both want a quality product or experience at a fair price. When a company delivers both - that's a winning combination. So really, I guess we've gotten good at copying other peoples winning combinations. My wife is always telling me that we don't need to reinvent the wheel - and I guess I'm finally catching on. Don't tell her I said so, but she's the brains behind this whole enterprise. Uncle Brian

Brian was spectacular to work with! Everything about them was great; they contacted me to get me on their schedule. They’re very good, so they’re very busy. The two technicians were incredible. One of them specialized in plumbing. They even noticed things that needed to be done and asked me if I wanted to get those done. I have absolute confidence in this company and I’d definitely use them again. In fact, I’ve already hired them again.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for a contractor for a day, including a lot of extra things that I wasn’t even planning to have them do. They even took care a plumbing job.

Thank you kindly for your review! We ( 2 men) were hired for 4 hours to do whatever needed to be done. When we arrived, Member showed me herto do list and we got right to work. We were finished in about 2 hours - so I looked around and asked her if she wanted her garbage disposal to operate. She said she forgot it wasn't working and she'd be grateful if we could replace it. While she was out shopping, we looked around for other things to do and came up with our own list of things that needed attention. I guess that's why the Member was so pleased - we were there to work, not take her money and run. Uncle Brian

Exceptional. That's the single word I choose to describe my experience with Brian's. I called Brian on Friday. He came out Saturday morning to give me an estimate for the work, and on Tuesday a two-man crew, Phil and Josiah, showed up right on time to complete my two small repair projects. They had the right materials and tools, and In about an hour both jobs were taken care of. Brian, Phil and Josiah were all personable and professional. I am thrilled to have found Brian's on Angies List, and won't hesitate to call them again, and recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: I had a garage entry door that would not stay closed, and a 6' gate that would not open. Brian's replaced the lockset on the garage door, realigned the door in the frame and secured the latch. They adjusted the hinges on the gate, and sanded it down slightly so that it fit. Now I'm no longer captive in my own back yard!

All contact with Uncle Brian was timely and professional (with lots of laughs thrown in for free). Estimates and actual work started no earlier then the decent hour of 9 a.m. He and his nephews and honorary nephews were competent, skilled, and hard workers who were constantly cleaning up after themselves. Prices were very reasonable and the estimate was honored. We are getting an estimate for a new deck in the spring so will use his company again. Uncle Brian gave us guidance on solving other home repair problems we have. Prepare for a quiz at the end of the job because you'll learn a lot, especially about doors!
Description of Work: They modified areas to accomodate a wheelchair including widening doorways and changing a bathroom vanity. They fixed a ceiling fan, installed an exhaust fan, fixed a ceiling plaster problem, rehung and repaired exterior doors and door closers, replaced exterior window panes, built new screens, installed a new toilet and modified an opening in the kitchen for a bigger refrigerator - and Uncle Brian kept us entertained!

Thanks for your kind review!! We enjoy what we do - so, doing it well comes naturally. Sometimes, our customers' projects all turn out just right "and" we hit it off. That's when everyone leaves the table with a smile. It's always my goal and always will be. Member had several issues she was dealing with in her lovely home, so, we talked through the possible remedies. At the end of each discussion, I'd question her to make certain she understood my main points. She passed with flying colors and I'm confident she'll be scoring A's on all her future renovations. Member got the most value for her money because she picked my brain while we worked and started on the road to solving her other home improvement problems. Smart girl! Thanks for your kind review! Good Luck with your project and remember finding the right person/ company to do your tile job is as important as picking out the right tile. Feel free to call anytime with questions, that's why we're here. A quick tip: before shopping for tile for your bathroom/ backsplash or floor, consider the dimensions of the area that you plan to tile. Many folks get excited at this point and choose a tile solely by its appearance and price. The size of the tile and its layout on the walls or floor are critical factors when considering which tiles will work best. A 12" x 12" tile usually works well when tiling a standard 60" x 32" tub. A standard kitchen backsplash is 18" tall, so a 4"x 4" / 8"x8" /or 12"x 12" tile does not work well. This area lends itself to using a 6"x 6" tile, unless you'll be adding an accent tile. A 2" mosaic border used in conjunction with a 4"x 4" tile almost always works beautifully. Remember to consider the space between the tiles and buy those tile spacers if you'll be doing the work. I recommend picking out several possibilities at the tile store. Bring them home and lay them out on the dining room table (or floor) to see if they'll fit on your wall. Sometimes, I'll even tape them to the wall to see how they'll look. Try to avoid small pieces of tile in your design as much as possible and be creative using several different colors and sizes. I've found that if it looks good on your kitchen table, it will look good on the wall or floor. A little planning at this stage goes a long way toward making your finished product "wow" your family and friends. Uncle Brian

Thanks for your review! A common trap many people fall into when dealing with a Home Improvement 'Emergency"; Member called me to explain his problem with a leaking water pipe and seemed quite disturbed about it. I was not aware at the time that he had already had other companies out to look at his "leak". Granted, it's upsetting when your home springs a leak, even when it's just a pinhole, but remaining cool and finding the right company to deal with "the problem" is essential. If I got my facts straight, I was told that we were the first company of 4 that showed up that brought our tools! This is quite shocking but I feel highlights an obvious Improvement needed within the Home Improvement Industry. Many companies will take advantage of a consumer who appears "in distress" and charge thousands of dollars to correct a simple problem. My advice to all - shut the water off - calm down - it's only clean water. Dry the area as best you can and call several companies when you're calm. Remember, this is not an emergency - unless your mainline has ruptured and your basement is beginning to look more like an aquarium. If the company shows up without their tools, they have something else on their mind other than finding and fixing your leak. Member's leak was located and repaired within 90 minutes, which is why he was soo happy with Uncle Brian's. We showed up ready to Work. not ready to take advantage of Member and his wallet. Thanks so much for your kind review! We do our best to accommodate our customers schedules. We certainly do take pride in our work and always strive to go the extra mile to exceed our clients expectations. On another note: Uncle Brian meets regularly with potential customers, our clients always take precedent over potential customers, due to the fact that they are shelling out their hard earned money and deserve our complete attention. Want to hire a Home Improvement Expert ? : A word of advice - be persistent, when reaching out to a company that you'd like to interview. Remember- that they are probably not sitting around waiting for your call. Also, be patient and don't rush into your next Home Improvement without doing some homework of your own. I've heard hundreds of horror stories from folks who skipped this step. I do my best to educate folks about the common pitfalls many find themselves in. Never, ever hire a contractor to do a large project without first doing your homework as to exactly who it is you're inviting into your home. Start with a small project as a warm up and then decide if this person is a good fit. Angieslist makes it easier than ever to find reliable / quality companies, but you still need to decide if you and the company are a good fit! Finally, Uncle Brian's is a bit fussy concerning who it is we work with - not because we are premadonnas but because - I don't allow people to abuse my family. This is a family business and we work with nice people who want to be treated well and who have been taught to play nicely. Enough of that. Our Best to all in the angieslist family Happy Improvementing! Uncle Brian

Evidently my piddly job was not important enough to warrant a return phone call since they couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge my request for help (no phone call, no email, no nothing). Adding this company to my list of those who will never get my business or the business of my friends or family. Actually none of the companies I found on Angie's List returned my calls. That's $17 down the toilet.

We never received a call or email from this customer. I could only guess that (Member) tried to email us thru angieslist and we never received it. It is unusual that none of the companies on angieslist returned your inquiry. I would suggest requesting a refund from angieslist regarding your membership fee. We respond to all requests regardless of the size or scope of the job. I would recommend to other members that during the busy season (March - November) that several attempts be made to contact companies and not jump to the conclusion that a company does not want to respond due to the size of the project. We communicate with our customers via email and text as well by phone, this strategy works well most of the time. My apology to this member and his experience. Lastly, we treat every customer with courtesy and respect and will continue this practice. Uncle Brian

Thanks for your review! Pleasure working for you and your family - and thanks again for the delicious lunch! I'd like to take a moment here to comment on our experience with some of angieslist members and pass on a little wisdom I've picked up over the past 30 years. When calling a business to detemine if they're able to assist you with a given project, begin with a brief introduction / salutation. Try to avoid a long detailed list of exactly what you want done until you meet personally. Starting the conversation with " what do you get an hour?" does little to achieve your goal of hiring a home improvement specialist to get your project complete. We're all busy - granted, but an introduction that begins with , "Hi - my name is Sally and I'm considering a Bathroom Remdel in my home in Longmont. Can I speak to someone who can give me some design ideas and prices?- "Certainly is alot better. Note - Sally hasn't asked if it is a good time to talk about her project - but she has introduced herself and given a quick snapshot regarding the purpose of her call. I attempt to answer calls whenever possible, because of my dislike of leaving messages for other businesses I patronize. At times, this practice is a bit comical - as was the case when I was recently in a crawl space reconnecting a customers plumbing and a caller without taking a breath related to me every detail of the problems she had experienced with her last contractor. Some of these conversartions are interesting and worthwhile - but need to occur when the moment is right! Enough said - I'm sure you get the jist... On a different note - Uncle Brian's frequently receives an A grade for Price and Service. These grades - I believe, lead many to assume our prices are low in comparison to others. Truth is our prices are competitive when compared to other companies that due quality work. BUT - we can not compete nor do we attempt to compete with the many C grade remodelers out there. On an average Bathroom Remodel, your contractor will make hundreds of decisions as to what materials to use and how to get this project completed. If the focus is on speed and cost - your project probably won't be up for any Home Improvement ribbons. Many contractors today are putting together sub standard remodels and it is becoming commonplace to see a Bathroom fail in as little as 5 years. A quality bathroom remodel should last at least 40 years and provide not only functionality but beauty as well! The customer that pays good money for the 5 year Bathroom usually out spends the latter by more than double! Making wise decisions concerning your next Remodel - will require you to consider, not only the upfront costs but how the project will stand up to what your family dishes out and what the next buyer is willing to pay for your "Improvement". Enjoy Your Summer! Uncle Brian

Brian showed up within a couple of days for a quote and told me he would start in October. A couple of weeks later he called me and said he had some cancellations and could he start in a week. We agreed. Brian said he would show up on a Tuesday at 11:30 and he showed up at 11:10 AM with his crew ready to work. He had promised the work would be done in 6-7 days and on the evening of the 6th day he and his crew we gone. The house was clean and he even left light bulbs for the fixture (which was only down because I told he I wanted to finish painting first). I also have to thank him so much for helping this bachelor choose great colors and materials (for 2 hours on a Sunday) and still keep the whole project to a reasonable budget. Not only was the work quality he was a great person to work with and I had a really good time working with him.
Description of Work: I needed to update my bathroom for medical reasons, as well as I really felt it need to be modernized anyway, So we removed the total contractor grade bathroom, including cheap tub/shower and then started from scratch. Tub replacement shower was installed and a new vanity, toilet, floor and shower, with an AMAZING tile pattern were installed. Because i couldn't find a medicine cabinet I liked for a reasonable priced Brian decided to build one for me. Of course when he went to install it a vent pipe needed to be moved but the whole thing looked great. With Brian's hints I did the paint job myself and it also came out pretty well.

Thank you for your kind review! I'm happy to hear you like your new Bathroom and hope you enjoy it for many years to come! Member needed a new bathroom due to a recent accident and wanted to swap his old tub for a new shower stall to facilitate getting in and out. We built a pseudo handicap shower with a custom granite seat to keep the look and feel of the bathroom truly luxurious - while giving him the features he wanted and needed. I'm glad we can help really nice people like member to realize their dreams and make their life - a little bit more comfortable. I told Dave we were booked out about 3 1/2 months , but that we would do our best to move his project up if at all possible, due to his medical condition. I'm pleased we were able to complete his Bathroom project almost 2 months ahead of schedule and on budget. Dave was a pleasure to work with, I hope to have some of his before and after photos to share on my website shortly. Happy Renovating~! Uncle Brian and Family

Thanks for your review! I love angieslist for so many reasons. I'll share one of them - if you'll allow me. 1.) I've been on literally thousands of jobs over the years - so - I've seen it all. We were recently on a project in Lone Tree, Co. that was a bit unusual, my customer had hired 4 companies to remodel his newly purchased home. His family was living in Texas and would arrive in Colorado in several weeks after the renovation was complete. We considered his harried schedule prior to bidding and accepting his project because we don't make promises lightly and we had to think through the his 8 day remodel and decide if it was realistic to complete it in only 5 days. We made the decision to proceed, knowing we would be working 14 hour days for at least 4 of the 5 days. My point here is not how hard we worked or how wonderful we are... I was shocked how the 3 other companies came and went as if there was no deadline. After we completed the project, I spoke with the new owners. They shared their frustration concerning the remodel and relayed that we were the only company that started and finished as planned. I say this not to brag - better to let our customers do that anyway - I say it to inform you the "Customer". Many companies out there will make promises they have no intention of keeping once the project begins. Why do I love angieslist?? It holds these people accountable to their clients and allows the client to vent their frustrations to others. It's not always easy to satisfy each and every client - but it's neccessary to give it your best shot. Starting at 10 am and finishing the day at 3 pm, when the client has made it clear he wants the job done quickly - is in my view - not acceptable. The 5 hour per day contractor will, of course, have lots of reasons (excuses) why the job took longer than anticipated, but fail to mention the fact that a 5 hour work day is not exactly running on all cylinders. A company that consistently over promises and under delivers will not maintain an A - B rating for long on angieslist. Delivering a quality product day after day - to hundreds of clients a year is no small task and requires lots of planning and good communication. Angieslist will force the laxadasical (did I spell that right?) company to discontinue the practice of over promising or suffer the consequences. Enjoy the Beautiful Weather! Uncle Brian and Family

Everything went really well. Brian and assistance came the first time to dismantle the tub surround and prepare two walls to receive new cabinets. Cabinet installations with trim went smoothly. After plumber did his work and tile was installed Brian returned, as scheduled, to do the trim work. This work also was done in a professional manner with attention to detail. Installation of bathroom accessories went well. Brian was very pleasant to work with and gave good suggestions to improve the remodeling project. We are having him return this fall to replace our front door.
Description of Work: Remodeling bathroom. Remove old tub surround material. Reconfigure wall and install new medicine cabinet. Reconfigure second wall and install recessed cabinet. In February I had some damage to my Condo Bathroom and needed an estimate of repair for the insurance agents. Brian was quick to provided the needed information as well as to work with the insurance agent when modifications were needed. Everytime I contacted him by phone or by email, his response was quick. My step dad is a cabinet maker of 30+ years, so while I am not skilled in repair myself, I can usually spot someone skilled at their job from a flim flam artist. I got nothing but professional vibes from Brian, he reminded me a lot of my Stepdad. Unfortunately the timing did not work out for me to use Brian for the remodel, but had it, he would have been the first on my list.
