WARNING, please be advised that the owner of this company uses unethical practices.
1st: Chip Madeley seriously under estimated the job and never told me when the budget or time allotment was exceeded.
2nd:Chip Madeley hired a summer student to assist with my small project. This student had no carpentary skills and needed training.
3rd; Chip Madelely charged the same hourly rate for the student as he did himself, a skilled carpentar.
4th: I was charged for the learning hours as well.
5th: Shortly after starting the job, one of Chip's tools quite working. He rented a tool and charged me for the rental!!!
I realize that it's hard to estimate a job, but I do expect the contractor to let me know when we are exceeding agreed budgets.
Please think twice before hiring this contractor!!!!
"1. Madeley & Company was hired on a 'per man hour' basis. All man-hours are billed at the same rate, this is a standard practice in many industries, not just construction, and was explained to the customer up front. 2. An estimate is an approximation based on a particular scope of work. In this case the homeowner changed the original scope of work after the estimate was given which changed the approximate cost of the project. It was explained that the changes would greatly add to the length of time needed to complete the project. 3. The cost of the tool rental was approved by the homeowner but ultimately the cost was split between both parties."
