South Suburban Remodel

This was a complete rebuild. My 1970s style bathroom complete with carpet was replaced. Bathtub and a wall removed, new custom shower, new flooring, new wall tile, new lights, baseboards and some drywall work. How did it go? Slightly below budget, on time, absolutely perfect worksmanship. I've had decks, kitchens, staircases and now 3 bathrooms remodeled in the last few years. Tom is the best contractor I've hired and a really nice guy, he really knows what he is doing. If you get a bid that is slightly lower than Toms, skip it and go with Tom, you won't have to worry about how it will turn out.

They submitted the bid on the 26th and we started a couple of days after that. I paid him on 6/5 and it was $1,425. Then I paid him again on the 6th for the upstairs, that was $1,303.43. It was great, he did a beautiful job. Actually, the price was real good. We got 4 bids and 2 of them was almost double of what he did them for. Then the other one, who started work was the lowest bid, and I will never take the lowest again. I go in the middle. I learned that the hard way. His responsiveness was great, it was a plus, plus. He submitted his bid and he started on it the next afternoon, so it was great. I?ve already given his name to 2 other friends.

Tom was prompt and always left the day having cleaned up. His experience was very appreciated.

Tom did an excellent job, Not only was he professional in every aspect, but he is very detailed and meticulous about his work which shows in the end result. The contractors he brought in were also very professional and did excellent work. I found Tom to be a man of integrity and of excellence, and I would definitely hire him again.

My husband and I could not be happier with the kitchen remodel that Tom and his contractors did. We chose Tom based on previous reviews, his professionalism, his willingness to listen to our ideas along with making his own suggestions, his knowledge of older homes, price, punctuality and the length of the remodel. After meeting with Tom to discuss the job and timeline, he was able to start shortly thereafter. Four and half weeks later, we had a beautiful brand new kitchen. And we LOVE it! Tom was always on time. He always followed up promptly on messages, phone calls and emails. He truly listened to us and was willing to make adjustments based on our needs, budget and input. He was a pleasure to work with, and we completely trust him. To add to our favorable comments about Tom, we had problems with the install of our new appliances from a big box store that will not be named in this review. After his job with our kitchen had already been completed, Tom came over at 8:00 at night and reinstalled the microwave for free. He did not have to do that but was willing to give of his time so we did not have to deal with the big box store. We were very appreciative! Anyone who comes into our home, or sees the before and after photos of our kitchen, is completely amazed at the transformation. I feel like I'm walking into a new home everytime I come in my front door. We now have other remodels in mind for our 1923 home and will definitely hire Tom for any future work that we do. Highly recommended!

Both called and left an email for Tom, explaining that I had a bathroom remodel project that I wanted to start. I said in both that it was not a big job, since it was only one bathroom, but it was a complete tearout and redo of all tile work (large shower, floor, and backsplash) and drywall, and installation of a new vanity. It was not an insignificant amount of work. I wanted to keep it around $7,000. He immediately came out (within a few days of his return phone call) and looked at it. Never said anything about it being too small of a job, but then I never heard from him again. I waited a week for the promised quote, and then called. I never got a call back. If he didn't want the job, why didn't he just tell me that, and not waste both his time and mine? I guess he was saying he could not do it for the amount of money I wanted to spend, but he could have just told me that, instead of just disappearing.

This is the second bathroom remodel that South Suburban Remodel has done for us, and we couldn't be happier with the results. We updated this 1983 bathroom with new vanity/sink, flooring, and tub/tile, with light fixtures being removed, moved and replaced. We also had a new fan installed. Tom did all the quality work in a timely and professional manner. He is a pleasure to work with and has a plumber who does excellent work as well.

We find Tom to be an excellent contracter who does the most of work for himself with superb skill, conscience and punctuality. On the first day he gave us a printed work calendar indicating what would go on every day of the scheduled three weeks plus. He kept the schedule as planned, actually most of time a little ahead of it. His coworkers, a plumber and two electricians, are excellent workers. Tom is an very good communicator and resourceful to solve unexpected problems and totally dependable. After the end of his work day he cleans up the area before leaving. After two potential contractors backing away because of health or tight schedule, we were cornered in for a period of one month to get it done before our planned trip abroad. Tom did have some other work in this period, but he managed to juggle his other commitments so that he could concentrate his three weeks plus time on our project. Tom also was present while counter top and appliance installers and was ready to give them suggestions and help, which turned out to be essential in installing and connecting the appliances! it was our pleasure to work with Tom. We very strongly recommend Tom to anyone who contemplates remodeling. K &D G..

Tom is professional, knowledgable, skilled, reliable, careful, detail-oriented, and just an overall great person to work with. We have already scheduled him for more remodeling in the new year.

I contacted and hired Tom on the basis of other positive Angie's List reviews and I am so very glad I did. We moved into a home that is sound but required some updating. We decided to tackle the master bathroom first, and we worked with Tom on the plans for?and execution of the project, which turned out perfectly.?He provided a contract, did what he said he would do, worked when he said he would work, kept us informed of everything?- a very positive experience. Tom also did some updating in other areas?(baseboards, lighting, etc.), which turned out beautifully. He works with, and schedules,?excellent subcontractors, which made the whole experience a smooth one.?

My experience with Tom (South Suburban Remodel) could not have been better. This is the best experience with a contractor I have had. We had a bathtub that needed replacing because of degeneration near the overflow that was causing a leak (the tub could not be patched or repaired). The leak caused drywall damage in the floor just below the bathtub, so the job included replacing a bathtub and the tile surrounding it, and repairing the drywall where the leak had occurred. We are thrilled that we found Tom. Because this job was on the smaller side, Tom did the tile work on his own, and got assistance with the plumbing and drywall. All of the work was stellar. While the work was outstanding, the professionalism and communication were equally superb. The worksite was completely cleaned each day, and Tom's communication was exceptional. At one point while assessing the project, Tom was about 10 minutes late for a meeting and he called to let us know! (I've dealt with some contractors that I am still waiting for return calls from - months and years later). If/when we have other projects, we will definitely try to use South Suburban Remodel again. I cannot recommend this company more highly.

We hired Tom who owns South Suburban Remodel to do a complete remodel of a full bathroom. Tom was 5-star wonderful . . . he listened to our needs, gave us advice with pros and cons, made suggestions for material resources, and was very accommodating to our schedule. He also coordinated the design and delivery of all services such as our granite countertop. The remodel went according to schedule and even included his tackling an unexpected snag with some floor joist issues; Tom did an awesome job with this, too. The end result is a beautiful new bathroom that we're enjoying at this very moment, one that we check out every day, go "ooh" and "ahhh" a lot. It's a bathroom that we're confident we'll enjoy for years to come. As you can tell, we endorse Tom to the max and can't wait to save up enough again to hire him to do, well, most anything that would make our house a home. Kudos Tom!

Overall, I was very impressed with all facets of Tom's work. He was extremely punctual and maintained a high-level of communication through the project. Most impressive was his attention to detail and his desire to ensure that a quality product was achieved -- this was true of the work completed by Tom or his subs. It was clear that Tom's professionalism and experience did not allow him to take shortcuts -- he takes pride in his work and it shows. I would highly recommend South Suburban Remodel for small or large projects. You will rest easy knowing that good work is being undertaken and that the job will be done right.

Tom was responsive, easy to work with and did a good job.

As usual, everything was done to perfection! No delays! He has a great group of sub contractors and they always show up on time. Every one is very professional, yet friendly and accommodating. Tom is very helpful and makes good suggestions but is always willing to listen to some of my crazy ideas. One of my cabinets was mis-ordered. When it arrived (after he was on another job), he returned to install the cabinet....no charge! I am already planning my next little remodel and hope to get on Tom's calendar very soon.

They moved some walls remodeled a bedroom and bathroom in the basement, looks great, was on time, budget did not change, very clean, on schedule no delays. Easy to work with, provided ideas to help make it the best_x000D_|Outstanding service

We were very happy with Tom's work - the quality of the finished product is excellent, and we was great to work with. We just finished work today and I'm excited to go home an see everything in its final form. I'd definitely recommend Tom to anyone who's looking to renovate their home.

The old fan and its faulty wiring were removed from service, drywall was perfectly repaired, textured and painted, and a new air-circulating ceiling fan was installed. The basement work done in the summer specifically involved a tile floor that had more than one size tile, in a pattern that required extra care in the layout and measurement. We were comfortable asking for something complex based on past tile experience with South Suburban Remodel. As expected, it was beautifully done.

There were absolute no surprises. Everything went exactly as planned!

My partner was called out of the country right when eveyrthing needed to be hauled out of the basement, so Tom hired a friend and the three of us moved it all upstairs and to a storage unit. He managed the subcontractors seamlessly, even covering my bathroom floor with plastic and cleaning up EVERY afternoon. I have two cats, and he constantly reminded everyone to keep the doors closed and the upstairs door locked at all times. There were some glitches along the way, as expected, but he and I stayed in constant contact about any revisions necessary, so that it was all done to my satisfaction. It took fro mid-October to mid-December to finish it all, and we even took a one-week vacation during that time, leaving everything in his hands with no qualms. In order to finish on time, Tom put in some Saturday mornings, and he worked from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm nearly every day. I can honestly say that, since we finished, I have never said "If I had it to do over..." about anything.

I first used South Suburban in 2008 and was pleased with their quick response, reasonable estimate, and efficiency with getting the job done. The owner is professional and attentive to detail. Perhaps more importantly, my house was left immaculate inside and out when the work was completed. More recently, a friend used them for a complete basement remodel, including a beautiful bathroom with steam shower. I watched the work in progress and saw the great results, heard my friend's praise regarding their work , and decided to call them again. Despite the fact that my door replacement was a small and minor job, I was once again pleased with their professionalism, recommendations regarding quality products, and the work being done promptly. Once again, the attention to clean-up after completion was great! I give this company an A+ for all facets of the work. Great service these days is oft times a rarity and needs to be acknowledged. I recommend them highly!

They were prompt and clear in their estimates. In developing the plans for the upstairs they referred us to an architect who was very helpful. They began the work on time and kept the work they controlled on schedule. The major delay in the kitchen was out their control when the firm I had selected for the kitchen cabinets failed to deliver materials on time. When problems came up they told us what the issues were and what, if any, additional costs were associated with different approaches to those problems. I very much appreciated that they kept me informed and gave me options as the work progressed. They used excellent subcontractors. They minimized the dust and mess by sheeting off sections of house they were working and by cleaning up at the end of everyday. A year after the remodeling upstairs they came back and did a small amount of repainting that was needed. I have continued to use them, as have family members. I have complete trust in South Suburban Remodel and give them my highest recommendation.

The estate house was a basket case when we started - the plumbing didn't work, the appliances were broken, etc., and there was a lot of pet damage. The end result was a beautiful move-in-ready house that sold within three days of listing. I more than recovered my costs in the sale. All of my work with this contractor has been of high quality, started and completed on schedule. They use reliable subcontractors, and hold the subs to a high standard. The work area is cleaned up at the end of each day, and clean up is very good at the end of the project. I also had a very good experience with them when a defective bath fixture had to be replaced a year after the job was done. The manufacturer provided a new fixture, and I held my breath while tile was taken out, etc. to remove the defective fixture and replace it. Things turned out very well! I have had some "not-so-good" experiences with other contractors in the past, so I was very glad to find South Suburban Remodel! I highly recommend them!

Tom was on the job everyday at 8:00am. He kept me informed of his progress and always cleaned up the area before leaving everyday. Tom does excellent work and is very professional. I will hire him again for future projects. Tom is highly recommended.
