It went very well. He was on time and explained everything.
Description of Work: I used Quality West Heating & Cooling to fix the ignitor on our fireplace. We had bought a deal to clean and inspect it in November and it lasted a couple of months before we had to have the ignitor replaced.

First I gave them very good review because they were responsive, reasonable, all that, but then it got to the point where not answering the phone and then they never return the call. We got the unit and he decided not to work on this area anymore and he never called back to check on the agreement. He was supposed to have one more trip under the agreement and he didn't come back. They let me down.

Response from Quality West Heating & Cooling
We take great care in our work, and strive to assist our customers to the highest standards possible. We also do everything reasonable to resolve issues that sometimes arise in the course of running a business. Our company uses situations like this to learn and understand the needs and view-points of our customers, and to create policies and procedures to prevent similar situations. Dear Member: We appreciated the original "positive" review you posted about our company, stating we provided responsive and reasonable services - which were installation of a new furnace in a rental property along with a one year service agreement (included two seasonal tune-up services). We completed one of the tune-ups, as well as two additional (billable) trips to the property, and didn't charge you for the service calls. When you requested for us to provide service on a 2nd rental unit, even though it was located outside our service area, we assisted you with it. Several months later when you called our office (5 calls in 30 minutes outside of office hours) requesting service on a 3rd property, we called you back and declined the job since our bill for the services we provided on the 2nd property was still unpaid. At that time we informed you we would not be able to provide future services on your rental properties due to non-payment as well as being located out of our service area. In our effort to resolve the situation and part ways AMICABLY, we agreed to credit the remaining value of your service agreement (one tune-up) from the 1st property toward your unpaid bill for services on the 2nd property, write off the remaining unpaid balance, and you would find a new service provider in that area to assist you with your properties in the future. In our opinion, this was a very reasonable resolution to the situation, and does not warrant the revised "negative" review of our services, as we went well above and beyond what we were hired and actually PAID to do. If you have questions or would like to discuss the situation further, please contact us by email at info@qualitywestservices.com. Regards, Angela - Office Manager

We have an old furnace and I wanted it inspected, cleaned and the filters replaced. The were offering a deal on that service that I purchased through this site. This is an old unit, it has perhaps one year left. It was ripe for an up-sell to a replacement, so I was prepared for that. They arrived on time, were professional. They did a CO test and the furnace passed with flying colors. They cleaned it out, replaced the filters and were done in about 20 minutes. I appreciated their honesty and professionalism. They have a sale waiting next fall when the unit will be replaced.

I left a phone message on Sunday afternoon that my furnace was not working, and also send the vendor a message thru Angie's service. I did not expect them to reply on Sunday, which was OK. They called me around 8:30 AM on Monday, and Rob arrived around 10:30 AM. They were very responsive over all. The repair price was about $100 more than I expected it to be. He didn't try to sell me anything, but I did ask about a possible future replacement of the furnace, so we discussed that in some detail. Overall I was very satisfied with the quick service. The furnace is working fine.
Description of Work: Rob diagnosed and replaced the igniter in a gas forced-air furnace. He also checked the amperage on the blower fan to make sure the motor was still in good condition and not worn out. It was OK.

***UPDATE 1/16/14 -- So, after this review I changed the schedule to not turn the fan on during the day and only run when the heat was on. I can say that it hasn't made a difference in my bill, in fact it went up again compared to last month. I will return to running the fan in hopes of keeping the house warmer. To comment, again, on the company, I have to say that I was wrong and they were right. It's pretty cheap to run the fan most of the time. If it's cold again this month, I'll be able to see if it at least keeps the house warmer. Even from my first review, I would still recommend these guys. The install went great. I was promised a couple of extra things by Rob that were not delivered, like sealing all of the ducts in the room, but they were kind enough to leave some duct sealant with me to do it myself, which I didn't mind doing. Rob's quote was lower than any other contractor I had out, by at least $500 and the others didn't have a humidifier install quoted. He seemed like an honest guy and was very knowledgeable and so were the two guys that did the installation. The furnace is installed and heating the house perfectly. Problem: My only issue is some misinformation that I was given or likely that I didn't know any better. Everything regarding the install was great and this next part should not reflect poorly on the company. I would highly recommend them to anyone. The only problem I have is really just because I didn't know better with the following. I was told that running the fan on the motor all day would keep the house warmer and would only be the equivalent of running a 40 watt light bulb. It does keep the house much warmer, but the part about the 40 watt light bulb has to be false. After having it installed for a month and 2 weeks, I can recommend that you not run a 40 watt light bulb 24/7!!! Our Xcel bill went from $80/month (even in cold weather) to $190 after we had the furnace installed. I checked the details and the majority of it was electricity and I know it was caused by running the fan on the furnace because nothing else changed. I immediately changed my schedule so that the fan only blows when the heat is on and then circulates on days that I'm home. I'll try to provide an update next month when I get my next bill to see if the changes help. If they don't, then I recommend that you take this advice. If your house is chilly and you don't need a new furnace (and you only pay around $90/mo to heat your house), DO NOT UPGRADE your furnace. You will end up paying more like we are. Blankets and space heaters are so much cheaper. ***UPDATE 1/16/14 -- So, after this review I changed the schedule to not turn the fan on during the day and only run when the heat was on. Fantastic and responsive service. I left a message on Sunday and got a call first thing Monday morning. Angela asked about a window of time and informed me the tech would call before arrival. That happened and the tech turned out to be the owner Rob, who also was professional and clearly passionate about the field. At first the furnace worked without a problem, but Rob waited. When it started to blow cold air, he quickly diagnosed the problem. His crew came by a short time later with the gas valve and fixed it: they were extremely professional and kept me informed along the way. No problems since. In fact, Angela called a few days later to follow up. I only gave a B on price because it hurts to pay $500---I'm sure that the charge was fair. I highly recommend them. In fact, am going to get their service agreement for yearly tune ups on the furnace and the ac.

It was exceptional! I called them on a Friday morning because my heater stopped working Thursday night. I knew it was going to be cold all weekend and the provider I used prior to Quality West was not getting back to me. Quality West went out of their way to help me. They sent someone out to me even though they were booked solid for the day and I was outside their area of service. The technician that came out was professional and did a thorough job. He explained all my options and did a really good job. Their pricing is very fair and the work and service exceptional. Quality West helped my out when I was left with very few options. I highly recommend this company to anyone who needs their area of expertise!

I first called Applewood Plumb, Heat & Electric because my house seemed cold even though the furnace was running. Applewood told me that the furnace had been damaged probably by a previous servicer and was leaking gas. I was told it was dangerous and had to be replaced - could not be reliably repaired. I was quoted $6400 for the furnace and installation + approximately $800 for additional electrician costs. I called Quality West for a 2nd opinion. They found that just a couple of screws were missing - $99 total service call and repair. After the repair, all checked out and no gas or carbon monoxide leaking.

Rob (the owner) performed an extensive number of checks and routine maintenance items (e.g. cleaning/adjusting) to the furnace, including checking for gas and carbon monoxide at and around the furnace, enthusiastically and clearly explaining each item as he went along. Very pleasant and professional demeanor, and it was clear he knew his business. Especially for the very reasonable price (price shown is before he applied a coupon discount), I'd say this is one of the most thorough checkups I've had done to a furnace.

Service provider called said he could come earlier than the appointment time, that was great. I showed him to our boiler explained the situation and also let him know we were flooded like many other Coloradoans in September so the crawlspace had fans and a dehumidifier going but the boiler was fine and not effected. He went into the crawlspace said some loud things I don't think I was meant to hear then immediately came back up and told me that the zone valves had to be next to the registers. I told him I could call my husband but I was pretty sure all the zone valves were in the crawlspace. He proceeded to check the registers and told me he knew boilers, he had worked on boilers for many years, he told me exactly what a zone valve looked like and then when he didn't find any on the registers he went back to the crawlspace and again was very loud and angry. He came back up from the crawlspace said the zone valves were down there but we would need to call someone else, that the work conditions were unacceptable, that there was mud and mold and who knows what in the crawlspace. He said he wouldn't charge us for today but we were on our own and there is no way he was going to help us. We have since the flood had FEMA, flood insurance, plumbers and water mitigation crews to the house. NEVER has any one of them said we have mold. My husband and I have both been in the crawlspace and there was mud but now almost two months after the flood there is just the dirt floor. We have a young son with asthma and would never allow him to live with mold in the house. We are fortunate in that we had flood insurance and can cover the expenses caused by the flood but mold wasn't one of them as the crawlspace was sprayed repeatedly with moldicide immediately following the flood. Now we would just like to get the zone valve fixed to heat our bedroom without all the drama, anger and insults.
Description of Work: Wanted to have two things done the first a boiler tune up which they were offering a deal for $99 on a 26 point boiler system tune up and the second have our master bedroom baseboard register looked at. Register was not heating and is meant to work off the boiler and be heated from water, we thought maybe a zone valve needed to be replaced.

Response from Quality West Heating & Cooling
We always appreciate feedback that has the ability to help us increase our customer service. However, this account of the situation is significantly over dramatic and without merit. Base on our 100+ positive reviews, one can clearly see that we bend over backwards to assist our customers to the fullest extent possible. While we understand the frustration that the homeowner has experienced with the flood and all the stress and anxiety of having to put their home back to livable conditions, as a private contracting company, we have the option to accept some projects and decline others. This decision can be based on the nature of the project (we prefer projects within our scope of expertise), or based on the conditions of the works pace. One would not believe how many homes we have been invited to work in where there has been a sewer back up that has not been cleaned up, yet the homeowner presumes it acceptable for us to work on the still wet and contaminated furnace. In this situation specifically, once the technician thoroughly confirmed the work that was needed would infact be in the wet and molded crawlspace, he had to decline the job. Our company policy states that we do NOT work in the presence of any type of or potentially hazardous conditions that we are not trained to re-mediate. It is not our responsibility to test the flooded crawl space to see if it is truly safe in which to work. Had the homeowner properly informed us of the situation ahead of time, we could have let them know upfront we would not be able to assist them under these conditions, and avoid wasting their time and ours.

I was concerned there was a problem with my furnace, so I thought I'd start with an inspection and cleaning from a highly recommended provider on Angie's List. I selected Quality West Heating and Cooling. They are highly rated and was offering a "Big Deal". They were able to accommodate an evening appointment on a Friday night. It turned out it just needed to be cleaned. No additional work (which I'm sure would had been additional cost) was required. The technicians, Garrett and Josh also recommended a higher quality, longer lasting filter. I was considering having the air ducts cleaned and discussed it with them. They commented that it was probably unnecessary for a house as "young" (built in 2004) as mine. They recommended I just regularly vacuum return vents. Additionally, they said a service such as that, when unnecessary, could damage the ductwork. That recommendation saved me money and risk.
