The start date of Sept 15 was delayed due to rains in September. Miguel didn't contact me before that to let me know, though a few days later he did send out a non-personal/standard email to all his clients, without blind copying us so we could see everyone's address, letting us know they were delayed and that he would get to us as soon as possible. I had to call him and get more details on when I could expect the crew. He was, of course non-committal due to the weather, but did tell me there was one job ahead of mine. The crew of 4 showed up unannounced one morning - Miguel never told me they were coming. They came in an old beat up, unmarked van with no indication that they worked for Patriot Painting. They were very nice, but it was very obvious they were not very focused on quality. It rained in the afternoon the first 2 days and they had to quit early. They stayed past dark on the 4th day to finish up. The quality wasn't horrible and it doesn't need to be redone, but there are those areas where it's just not up to par. And the whole "2 coat" description is very misleading. Two coats is counted as moving the sprayer back and forth one time. So, to be clear, 2 coats is applied at the same time. Not like when I am painting and I wait till the 1st coat dries, then apply the second coat. This may be standard lingo in the painting industry, but this consumer was not aware of that lingo and they did nothing to educate me on that. One of my biggest issues with Miguel's crew is that they were antagonistic with my gardener, Rick. When he arrived to do my lawn, he asked the crew to move their equipment from the street so he could access the lawn. A simple enough request. They begrudgingly moved their equipment to the middle of the lawn. Rick mowed all around it then had to start moving the equipment himself, where upon they ganged up on him and actually threatened him, and then continued to antagonize him with threatening gestures. Extremely unprofessional. Will never use this company again. When the crew was doing the back deck, I hadn't yet picked out colors. The crew chief showed up with a color for the deck already purchased. He wanted to use it for the railings too. I accepted his choice of color for the deck, but insisted on a different color for the railings. I made it clear that I also wanted the non-slip additive in the paint for the deck, and I asked him if he included that. He looked me in the eye and said "Yes". He lied. There was no non-slip additive in the paint. I bought some and gave the deck a second coat with the non-slip additive. One of those things that just adds up to never going to hire this company again. I chose this company because they had such great reviews on Angie's List. I had different referrals from my neighborhood which, in the future, I will consider more carefully. I have had better luck with Angie List referrals in other categories.
Description of Work: Miguel gave me a quote, and managed the crew who came to paint the exterior of the house including the back deck.

Overall it went very well - we are very happy with the results of the painting. Here's how their process works - the first step is you are visited by a guy who gives you an estimate. Then if you decide to proceed you are contacted by the project manager to set up a date. They only require 25% down up front - the rest is due only after the painting is done and you are completely satisfied. The painting crew is a different team (we had 3 painters the first day and 2 the second). You have up to three months after completion of the job to contact them if you find any issues after the fact. The price was very reasonable - we actually had 2 other estimate - and theirs was the lowest. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to a friend.

We needed our house re-painted after hail damage and also after a number of years since the last painting. Greg (estimator) was good to work with and very helpful in obtaining the estimate. The included one hour of color consultation with Charisa was extremely helpful to us. Patriot did a high quality job of painting and attention to details. Isaac, Chris and crew did a great job of painting and were great to work with. Isaac explained several issues related to the house paint/job and even helped us pick an appropriate color for our front door. The walk-around at the end of painting job with Isaac was helpful, with any small touch-up items being addressed. The email and phone contact with scheduling folks was good overall. Patriot has a good system for the entire process, including after the job is finished having a 3 month period for fixing anything that was missed or needs attention. Patriot's commitment to a high quality job and customer satisfaction seems to very good. Thanks Patriot!

Two workers arrived on the scheduled date on time. 1. They were supposed to power wash the house, but had a small, low pressure machine. They did not take it around the house and wash the entire house. The pressure was inadequate to reach the higher levels of the house. 2. The man doing the caulking was very nice. However, he didn't know how to caulk." I called the supervisor/owner, Miguel, to report it. Miguel said he would be over in the morning to check things out, but was a "no call/no show." The two workers spent only one and a half days prepping the house. Other companies said my house would take 4+ days to prep. 3.

It got off to a really poor start. The power washers arrived unannounced at 8:50 p.m. If I had not been home, this would have been a more serious problem, as my windows were open. As it was dark, they began spraying through the open windows into the house.I was not only upset by this, but the contact for the company did not return my phone call until he needed to set the actual date for the painting and receive my color choice.I almost canceled at this point, but had been waiting on a schedule list for over a month.I am glad that I did not cancel, as the painters who arrived were excellent. They scrapped, caulked and primed prior to beginning to paint. They completed within a reasonable time and I am very pleased with the final product.I would use this service again, but I would be sure to make the contact accountable to remain in contact. He is the weak link in the process.

I contacted Patriot Painting after reading all the positive reviews on Angie's List. They responded quickly for my estimate and seemed very knowledgeable. The estimate was slightly higher than a different company we originally were going to use, however they came much higher recommended. The wait was about 3 weeks until our project got started. The project manager Miguel was easy to work with and very friendly. Once the crew showed up they blew through the project. I was amazed how quickly they just started knocking everything out. We had a few sections of wood trim that needed to be replaced due to bad gutters that caused trim and a small section of fascia board to rot. They replaced all the wood and it looks great. The painting also turned out awesome. They made sure to ask every time they were going to start a new section to make sure they were using the right color in the right area. I am very pleased with the end result and would recommend their services to anyone.

The bidding process was smooth and efficient with a reasonable bid. The color coordinator who came to help us pick colors was very professional with great suggestions. We had to change our date several times based on remodeling completion issues, and Patriot was very accommodating and good to work with. We learned when the team arrived that Patriot subcontracts the painting to teams, who are responsible for buying the paint and completing the job within a budget. The job was larger than our team of two had expected. They came in, took their time (which was great) going over our home completely with us to understand what we wanted done. They then figured the amount of paint of each type needed and went and purchased it, then started on the job. According to the contract, we understood the walls would be cleaned and small hole repairs in the walls done. We moved into this home last summer and one bedroom really needed the walls cleaned, but this was not done. We asked, and they said they would, but we know it was not done before they started painting. Holes (a few small screw and nail holes) were not filled until we went back after the job was done and pointed it out (for the second time). They really just tried to fill the holes with globs of paint. We thought the quality of the painting job was fine to begin with, but upon drying, we noticed a lot of spots that were not covering well. Beware that the two coats does not mean they wait between coats. We don't think the first coat was dried in many cases, so the second pulled up the first coat in areas. On the initial walk through, they had written on the walls the color each room should be, and on the final walk through we could still see their writing in one spot. Also before our final walk through, we had put blue painter's tape on spots that needed correcting, but found out they go back with a hand brush, which when it dried, is obvious on a roller painted wall. Our walls are smooth, but we now have some walls with texture from using long napped rollers and too much paint in an effort to finish more quickly. The team was frustrated because the job was more than they expected (or were paid for?), and they were eager to move on to another job, so we definitely felt the painting quality deteriorated throughout the week. They were so eager to finish, they planned on staying until they finished one night, working 12 hours or more, past 10PM, until we asked them to leave as we were exhausted too. Patriot then sent out a third helper the last day to finish, which the team was not happy about as we think this must have cut into their profit. To be fair, one team member was very diligent and conscientious. The other team member was on the phone a lot, and did not seem to accomplish as much. One of the mornings they were off doing a side job before they came to paint. Just recently, I decided to touch up a spot (we decided to just do it ourselves and do a better job, even though they come back for 3 months on request) and went through the left over paint. It was a mess, and as there was so little of the main color, we wonder if they mixed paint to finish our job. (Our house is painted in varying shades of the same color). The closets were included in the contract, but the painters were hesitant to complete them at the end of the week, and it took all our effort to emphasize to them that we really did want the closets done. All in all, it was a VERY stressful week, and we would not use Patriot again for any interior painting or recommend them to anyone for interior painting. We did complete a short evaluation form, just rating the overall job, before the team left, and as we respected the one painter and his efforts in a difficult situation, and we were just tired and didn't want to hassle any more, we gave them a decent rating. In retrospect, we should not have done that. We also question the company's policy of paying customers for positive reviews.

We got a bad crew. Nail holes were not filled, gaps were not caulked, paint was dripped EVERYWHERE (carpet, tile, wood floors, countertops). The painting of the trim and doors was terrible--huge paint drips left to dry, incomplete coverage, pools of paint on the floor. The crew also never arrived on time; they were at least 30-45 minutes late each day. (One day I called looking for them because they had not arrived within an hour and a half of the scheduled time.) I reached out to management about my displeasure, so they did send a different crew out to attempt to fix the problems. At this point, though, the damage was already done. It would have taken them weeks to sand and repaint/repair all the areas of concern. (Neither of us were interested in this.) The new crew addressed most of the big stuff and their efforts certainly helped, but it really should have been done right the first time. On the flip side, everyone was extremely nice to deal with. I just can't recommend their painting skills.

They scheduled a date for the work to be done. However, they insisted that I make full payment on the day that the work was completed rather than allowing the payment to be completed by my insurance company. I told them that it was an insurance claim when I had with it and when we were finalizing that the painting to be done it said that I had to make the full payment to the supervisor on the afternoon that they completed the painting whereas the other companies they understand some insurance claims and the payment takes certain amount of time after it's completed because it has to be inspected. And then the insurance company will send me the final payment so that I can make the full payment to whoever the painter and they refuses to do that so I refuse to do business with them. It was very uncomfortable with the fact that they were in the business however, I got the impression that if they needed the full payment upon completion of the work that they had a cash flow problem.

Patriot Painting painted the exterior of my tri-level, three color house to my expectations and satisfaction. I wanted to spend enough to get the house ready to sell, but not go overboard in case the new owner wanted to change the color. They sent a knowledgeable estimator who inspected the entire exterior and then made recommendations for touch-ups and repairs I should consider before painting, at my discretion. I had him quote on repairs to the soffit and wood chimney that had to be done. He gave me a brochure to examine explaining everything about the company, the kind of quality results they would deliver, the kind and quality of paint recommended for my job and the warranty they would provide. I had a chance to research the company and the type of paint, on line, before committing to hire them. I reviewed their rating on Angies List and the BBB and was satisfied with the results and that they were licensed, bonded and insured. I hired them and paid a down payment of 50%. I understood that it would take two painters to do the job in three days, but only one showed up and did the whole job in 2-1/2 days, including the carpentry repairs, power washing, painting and cleanup. The difficult-to-repair soffit was finally repaired correctly. At one point I asked the painter to do extra scraping of badly peeling areas and he complied and did extra priming of those areas within the original agreed upon price. All windows, doors, gutters, downspouts, light fixtures, etc., were covered during spraying. The three colors (main color and two trim colors) were perfectly matched. When finished, I did not find any areas requiring repair or touch-up. He left an ample supply of extra paint for future touch-up and to paint new porch stairs I was planning to have built at no extra cost. When the house went on the market, we had 6 offers in 24 hours, certainly due un part to the fine paint job.

Overall they did an outstanding job. Great communication, and professional service. The bid was done in a timely manner and came back right about where I expected it to be. Had another Angie's List painter come in over $1000 more and a CL guy about $300 less. A note on painters: I called a total of 9 painters for estimates for this job and I got all of 3 estimates. Do your homework HERE (A.L.) and get a reputable painter like Patriot. One painter (CL guy) never went to the house but gave me a bid...wonder how well that would have turned out. The other was equally professional but was a full $1000 more. Patriot did and Excellent job on the house! I went to inspect the finished product and WOW does it look good. A new coat of paint always looks good but the attention to detail was there as well. As I inspected the final job, the trim was done to a perfect line all over the house, the color matched all over (no dark/light spots), NO over-spray and they cleaned up like they were never there. I will absolutely use them again for any other jobs on my houses because they: 1) bid on time and on budget 2) had excellent communication 3) written contract that explained all work 4) explained their process and did the work on time 5) no hidden costs and they keep the job 'open' for 3 months to ensure satisfaction A+ company

Two prior painters had flaked out on us after providing estimates but then failed to follow up. Patriot's estimate was squarely in line with prior estimates, one from a company that had done some very nice interior painting for us previously. However, I don't have time to chase down my service providers. Patriot Painting seems to both have and understand the purpose of a business office. The phones are answered promptly by a secretary who was able to transfer me to someone able to answer my questions. The estimator and possibly the project manager were Patriot Painting employees. The painters themselves were subs. I'm still waiting to find a painting company that both employs its own painters and doesn't flake out after the estimate. We had an excellent experience though, and will use them again.

After approving the estimate and scheduling a date to start, we did not hear from Patriot re: coming to do a paint color consultation as stated by the representative at the time of the bid. We were scheduled to have the prep work done on 10-21-13, on 10-21 no one called or showed up. I then called again and was told that they were behind and we would have the crew here in 10-23-13, again no one called or showed up to do the work. I called a third time on 10-23-13, and was told the crew would be here on 10-28. Today is 10-25-13, we received a called to postpone the work a 4th time due to inclement weather due on Monday 10-25. The forecast on 10-28 is for rain or snow, so it is understandable that paint work is not possible on that day, but if Patriot had shown up on the first date they had promised, or even the second one, we would not be in the position of now possibly having to wait until spring to get this much needed paint work done! I selected this company because of their excellent reviews on Angie's List and because they were very professional and courteous at the time of the estimate. I am so disappointed in this experience, not only because of the extended delays in getting this work completed but because this is the first time I have used my membership in Angie's List. It makes me hesitate to rely on the ratings and reviews listed there.

Response from Patriot Painting Professionals Inc
We lament that this homeowner parted with an unfavorable view of Patriot. However, we feel its important to point out some inconsistencies in this report: 1st it appears that communications were with the husband and an email was sent advising of the delay in start date due to cold weather (which is not uncommon at this time of the year). 2nd this homeowner complains of not having the color consultant come out at the time of the bid. As we explain on the agreement, on our website, and in the slideshow we send to all new customers the service of a free color consultation does NOT come automatically; one must ask for it. As we have many customers who choose their own colors OR who choose to paint their home in the same colors, it does not make sense to have the designer show up automatically. 3rd and perhaps most importantly, we spoke to the husband on on 10/25/13 to talk about the schedule. At that time he elected to wait until Spring 2014 and asked us to call him in March 2014, which contradicts the report from the wife.

From start to finish, our experience was very favorable. The estimator arrived on time and gave us a detailed quote on the spot. We got 3 estimates and Patriot was on the low end as far as price goes. Once we accepted our contract, we were assigned a project manager and were given a start date. They also emailed us a slide show that outlined what to expect. Our original date slipped (thru no fault of Patriot but because of the recent rains) and they promptly contacted us with a new start date only a few days later than the original. The crew arrived on time and our project manager again went over what was to be done. They were all very pleasant. Our project took 2 days and it came out beautifully. The project manager walked thru with me to see if I had any issues that I wanted addressed. We had a couple of spots that were missed and fixed on the spot but all in all, the job was well done. They also have a policy of leaving your account open to allow for finding any problems later that you may have overlooked. They also did a very good job of cleaning up. There was a little overspray on a small section of the roof where there is an overhang, but I asked them about it and they promptly cleaned that off. They have a very convenient on-line payment system where you can pay with a check or credit card. I do wish I had looked more thoroughly on their website because I found after our job was completed that there was a coupon for upgraded paint, which we chose and could have saved a substantial amount on. I feel that we got a good job for the money we paid and would highly recommend and use them again.

Overall it is hard to imagine the job could have gone better. The work started on the scheduled date with power washing. The next day and half was prep work on the siding and trim - which was very well done. The next day was spraying the body of the house. Paint application appeared smooth and we could not find any places of overspray on window frames, the deck, or concrete foundation. The next two days were on hand painting (brush and roll) the trim. We had the front door and its side panels refinished rather than painted. This involved most of a day for sanding, then applying stain the next day, and then applying marine varnish the third day. Our only concern is that one day they tried to start painting early in the morning when overnight temperatures were below freezing and the air temperature was still in the low 40s. I had to call the project manager to get them to stop and come back later. We had more than one quotation and the price was competitive. Refinishing, rather than painting, the front door was a notable adder to the cost but worth it. We also chose a significant upgrade on the paint which added several hundred dollars.

We got estimates from several paint professionals and Patriot's pricing was most reasonable. The painter arrived as scheduled on time and proceeded with the work and completed the whole house painting within a couple of days. We are very happy with their work. They did the job really well with good prep work. I will certainly reach out to patriot Painting Professionals for my future painting needs

I'm very happy with the results of my 'new' home. I had a lot of trim detail using three different colors on my 100+ year old brick home. I was a little concerned when the paint crew arrived on the first day, because it didn't seem as though they had much experience with older homes and the prep work required and paint detail I was looking for. Despite my initial doubts, the final product turned out great. I had to call them back for a few minor touch-ups since I had to go out of town before the project was finished, and they were very responsive. Overall, they were reasonably priced (not necessarily the cheapest of the quotes I received) and communication, quality of work, and professionalism were good.

The bid was professional as was the experience when dealing with the office. The crew were independent contractors, Patriot paid them and in the end would not take responsibility for their work. The crew on site wanted to charge for anything that was not explicitly covered in the bid. Dealing with the crew and the billing was a terrible experience, they insisted on being paid separately from the company for components that should have been part of the bid and added 10%+ to the bid. They were really sloppy and in the end did not clean up. They did less than the job quoted and Patriot would not adjust the fee. I would not use this firm again.

Response from Patriot Painting Professionals Inc
As always, we lament any unhappy customer. Our culture at Patriot is explicit in our desire to satisfy our customers. We will always do our utmost to earn a positive impression. Occasionally, however, we must stand up for both our workers and our ideals at the risk of a negative review. This is such a case. First, the crew that performed this project were employees (not subcontractors). In addition they are one of our best crews. In fact, they are the crew that has earned many of the glowing reviews that can be found on Angie's List. There were two main issues with this project: 1st) the homeowner insisted on adding several items to the scope of work that were clearly not a part of the original bid at no cost. Those items would have added days to the project. We explained that we'd be happy to do them but we couldn't do them free of charge. Our crew performed some of the items but not everything that he wished. Our system of communication attempts to clarify all the details in the scope of work BEFORE the work begins via email, in writing, by phone, and by a "pre-walk" with the crew. We even send a slideshow before work begins about what to expect. 2nd) this customer complained of having remaining issues after the work completed. As is our policy, we advised that we would be happy to send the crew back to remedy any issues. This customer refused the offer but instead wanted an unreasonable amount taken off the bill. These types of cases, albeit rare, are disturbing to us as they suggest a ransoming of reputation. As is reflected in our accolades we are a company that will bend over backward for our customers. There are cases, however, where we must speak and, hopefully, be heard.
