KC Cabinetry Design & Remodeling

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do your research. Look around the internet. Read the reviews. Look into this company. There is a reason multiple people have left reviews that call out Craig and KC Cabinetry, Inc.. If you decide to do business with this company, here is what you will get from Craig. He is very responsive and polite. He answers all of your questions. He invites you to come to meeting in his show room. He comes to your house to do site reviews, inspections and consultations. He is at your beacon call. That is until he has your first down payment, and then he has you!!! At that point you are done. He no longer answers his phone, he does not get the job done on time, cares less about what you have outlined in the design, does not pay his subcontractors, etc., etc........... I can go on and on. PLEASE, do your homework. Look into reviews. Look at who leaves the reviews. Look at multiple web sites. There is a track record here. I am not the only person. Do not give this man your money. He keeps you strung out where he has just enough of your money that you can't fire him. If you do work with him, DO NOT GIVE HIM MONEY UP FRONT!!!!

I am writing this review in hopes that I can save anyone considering KC Cabinetry for their remodel from going through the horrible experience I had. Do not be fooled by Craig Cruz, the owner, whose personable, agreeable and competent manner initially, fooled me into signing a contract that I should have had looked over by a professional before I signed. Once the job started, I encountered the same behavior described in other reviews on this site; anger, disrespect, non-communicative, bullying and dishonesty. After 12 weeks, on a remodel that was expected to take 5-6 weeks according to the contract, Craig pulled the installer/sub-contractor off of our job saying “I really don't have enough for Tim to do to justify sending him over. I will send you an update on parts.” The parts referenced were missing cabinet doors, trim pieces, pantry doors and toe kick from our cabinetry order which I had paid in full many weeks previously. In addition, there was a list of at least 25 tasks that needed to be completed on the job including, installing baseboard, paint, repairing holes in downstairs ceiling they had caused, caulk, grout, etc. My suspicions aroused, I contacted the cabinet company directly and was informed that my order had already been delivered to KC Cabinetry and there were no additional items for me. I also received information from them, that showed pieces not part of my remodel that were included in my order. Craig Cruz was lying to me, seemed to be using pieces of my order elsewhere (or misordered at my expense) and appeared to have no plans to complete my project. I ended up working with the cabinet company directly to order the missing pieces and hired another contractor to complete the remodel. I, in essence, had to pay for the cabinetry 3 times: my original payment early in the project, the additional cost I incurred for reordering missing pieces and I had to pay KC Cabinetry's bill for the original order (which Craig had not paid) before the company would make the duplicate pieces for me. This, as well as the cost of the 2nd contractor and materials to finish everything amounted to a 30% additional cost to me over the original estimate. There is so much more I could tell you about the quality of project management, work ethic of sub-contractor (6 hour day was the norm and multiple “personal emergencies” made it often less), runarounds, etc. If you value your money, your time and your well being you will NOT go anywhere near KC Cabinetry. I should have checked more thoroughly and I absolutely should not have put as much faith in finding them at the Colorado Garden and Home Show; that is on me. But if you do not believe what you are reading here in my review and others, proceed at your own risk.

I contracted as a kitchen designer for Craig Cruz and KC cabinetry from October of 2016- January of 2018. The jobs that we just ordered cabinets for jobs tended to go very well. The jobs that Craig installed cabinets and acted as GC were the ones I would get calls from frustrated and even angry clients because they could not get answers on various issues/schedules from Craig. Craig was always late paying my invoices on jobs and as I'm finding out other vendors as well. I have thousands of dollars in outstanding invoices that he knows that he owes me but refuses to pay. I now have to retain a lawyer and take him to court to recover my commissions. This seems to be a trend with Craig as the many lawsuits against Craig and KC Cabinetry over the years will attest.

Buyer beware! KC Cabinetry has a rating of F with the BBB, and that was before we filed our complaint. The owner of KC Cabinetry, Craig Cruz, is a crook, a liar and an apparent con artist. He took approx $17,000 of our money on what he said was a 3 month project to renovate most of our house, and after stringing us along with lies for 3 months, he still had no schedule, no work plan, no permits and had done little more than demo. The very small amount of work that he did do before abandoning the project, he did without getting an approved design or even a permit and much of the work had to be re-done by a replacement contractor. After making excuse after excuse to avoid doing the work, he ultimately took the position that he could not do any other work until we made another even larger payment -- even though he subsequently acknowledged, in writing, in at least two documents that he never provided the services we already paid for with our first payment. He then started behaving unprofessionally and made misogynist attacks, apparently hoping to get us to terminate like the first BBB complainant so that he could avoid doing any more work. When we instead attempted to work through things cooperatively since he already had our money, he ran out of lies and excuses not to do the work so he terminated the contract without cause and refused to return any portion of our money. And unfortunately that wasn't the end of the nightmare. After we told him that we would be suing him to get our money back, he further delayed our project with the false promise that he would do work to earn the money he kept, which turned out to be just another lie to string us along. In the end, Craig Cruz took approx. $17K of our money, abandoned our project, delayed our project over 5 months causing us to incur additional expenses and behaved in a way that was both personally threatening and misogynistic. Given his behavior on this project and on the other projects that are subject to BBB complaints, we have filed a scam report with the BBB and are in the process of filing a complaint with the Attorney General as well.

Craig Cruz is a completely uncooperative, disrespectful contractor. He made promises throughout our remodel that have never been met. His sub damaged our floors but he didn't feel it was necessary to let us know. Craig tried to cut corners on our kitchen remodel but it has backfired. We are still waiting for him to finish the hood, baseboard and a few other punch list items. We found his name on Houzz but have found they are not honest about their reviews. Did you know you can pay for a 5 star review? Weeks have gone by without anyone working on our project. Craig has been a very difficult man to deal with or trust. He continues to lie about what he has ordered, what he is going to do and when he will complete the project. For a smaller kitchen, starting in July and still waiting for completion in October is ridiculous. Please do not risk going with this loser. It's not worth the sweat and tears you will experience He will lie to your face about what he will do, what he has done and even his contractors have said he is cutting corners, wherever he can to finish the job.

Do get references.Don't work with KC Cabinetry.

It started out as a kitchen remodel but grew to a whole house job, a task for which KC was incapable of managing. All quotes were "allowances" which had little relation to the "actual" costs incurred. The company billed for work not fully complete and was not forthcoming in accounting for allowances. I would not recommend this company for any large scale project and even a small job should be priced at documented cost plus a fixed fee, paid out in phases.
