OVERPRICED and acirc;?? WATCH THEIR HOURLY CHARGES. I was verbally provided a quote of $529 for services (no supplies). When I received a bill for over $1,000 I was shocked. It took over 6 hours to install three combination locks on doors. When I discussed my disappointment with the owner, Sandy Garvey, it was clear she would not budge in her charges and defended the charges by sayingand acirc;?and brvbar;. and acirc;??they did a great job in the locks as it usually takes 2.5 hours for and acirc;??eachand acirc;?? lockand acirc;??. Per the manufacturer the entire process should take the average person 30 minutes per combination lock-set and that is for an average person, not someone you are paying $70 per hour for their expertise. They did do some additional work but unfortunately I am having to pay an additional contractor to finish the job they did not complete or do correctly. I am very disappointed in their quality and pricing. My recommendation is use someone that will give you a price for the job they perform vs. hourly rate.
Description of Work: Replaced 3 locks, re-caulked two tubs and a shower, powered washed a patio and outside garage doors. They also scraped a small portion of old paint off the garage doors.

He was a very nice man, but the price was more than I could handle. It was more than I could do right now, and it could reconsider later on. I didn't realize material would cost so much. I didn't have any problems with him whatsoever, and he presented it very well, and showed me all the details. He was very quick to respond. He was here 10 minutes before his appointment, and he was very professional.

The service went really well, he did a great job. The job took longer than the big deal covered, and so we paid additional. The experience was really good. They communicated well, they came out when they said they would, they ended up discounting heavily, because it took longer than they thought it would.

Excellent- Joe was so wonderful and easy to have in my home. He was very attentive to every detail and gave great advise and opinions when asked. He was very patient as well.
Description of Work: They sent someone out to help replace laminate flooring after a flood. Ended up doing that and updated bathroom. Tiled the floors in bathroom, changed out shower/tub fixtures, installed new sink and vanity and lighting. Cut doors down to accommodate new flooring and also did numerous small jobs around the house.

They were the nicest couple of guys I've ever had do work on our home, very upbeat and easy to get along with, and their work was first rate. I will definitely use them again in the spring when we continue to get small jobs done around the house.
Description of Work: They did a whole lot of random odd jobs around our house, from hanging new lights, putting in kitty doors (one of which required a whole new door and painting, both of which they did with 0 complaints), TV mounting work, etc!

DO NOT USE THIS REPAIR SERVICE There are two elements of the experience 1- the billing and 2- the work. The billing gets an "F" and the work a "B+" - We were quoted $500 for the work. They charged us $1000 without any discussion of a change in scope. It took 4 calls to get a hold of them to discuss the matter and then instead of being told they would correct, the individual that answered the phone explained how much work was completed. When I told her I didn't have any issue with the work completed, it was that the cost was double what quoted, she told me "Oh, the person who gave you that quote has been fired" I asked to speak with the owner and instead she left me a voicemail telling me I was charged appropriately for the work done. I find her handling of the situation abysmal at best. I would never use this service again. For a small business to take this stance and the owner to not respond to a request for conversation is disappointing at best. On the positive side, Carson who completed the work was very nice, accommodating and determined to do good work. The low scores on responsive, professionalism and punctuality are low due to the billing person and owners lack of response, unwillingness to address a failure on their terminated employee's part to accurately assess the scope of the work. Carson was on time and delightful to work with.

The husband met our Craftsman and was fully informed of the work. The office confirmed the special pricing of $519.00 for 8 hours and another special pricing of $14.75 each quarter hour after that. Materials are extra. The above mentioned price is not correct. There was discussion with the husband who signed and paid for the work that more time would be required. The owner tried to contact the customer twice in December. We warrante our work for one year if problems arrive.

He used our supplies, safety bars and wall board. He brought his ladder and spackling compound. He warned us if he was making a large noise. Otherwise, he was relatively quiet. He was easy to talk with and gave good explanations. However, he only talked when he needed to talk. Gail found mostly studs to secure the grab bars and placed them where I had indicated, even through shower tile.I was very pleased with his attention to detail. He also honored the coupon from Angie's List.
Description of Work: He installed 5 safety grab bars around our toilet room and replaced the water damaged wallboard in our bathroom sky light. He draped our bathroom before work and cleaned up every bit of drill dust and spray texture. He was very careful in moving through our house with all our antiques.

Replaced a 60 inch bathroom vanity top. I was quoted $535 by Handy Matters and at no time did they mention they charge by the hour. It took Joe over 9 hours to complete and then he tried to charge me over $650. He had no idea that I was quoted $535 and he said he charges by the hour. I found coupons online and ended up paying around $600, which I was not happy as I should have only paid $535. I really think that 9 hours was a long time to complete such a small project. Prior to leaving Joe mentioned the pea trips were leaking and if they continue to leak he will come back and fix. When I called him to come back, he said that he never told me he was going to fix the pea traps without a charge. I was also concerned that the sink was not even under the sink hole and there was a mark on the vanity top. Instead of saying that he would come out and look at it, he got very defensive and rude to me and said he would have to charge me $50 for a trip charge. He was so nice when he was in my house. I never had him come back - I would think the work is guaranteed to my satisfaction and would not be charged an additional fee to come back. | |I would never use this company again as I think they should have been up front that they charge by the hour. I really don't think it should have taken 9 hours to replace a vanity top that is only 60 inches in length. Joe was very nice when he was at my house, but on the phone he was completely different.

This Homeowner paid another Handyman (referred by a friend) $2,000 to update her master bathroom. This other handyman found a countertop (dated 2007, I found the sticker underneath) at somewhere, and since it was too wide for her vanity, he cut out the walls to accomodate it, then patched in some drywall, and used many tubes of caulk to seal it up. The countertop, when our craftsman saw it was cracked in two places. Our Craftsman had to cut a chunk of it out with a multitool. It took him 2.5 hours to disconnect the Moen faucets and drains, and get the counter and sinks out, because the existing plumbing was difficult to work with. The homeowner had a new granite countertop with 3-sided backsplash, plus new sinks. It was a good fit. Our craftsman patched the drywall, along with plugging a hole above the mirrors; the prior handyman had relocated the light, and not bothered closing with the old hole in the wall. 8 solid hours. [member name removed] said Sandy had quoted her $530 because she came to us through Angie's List. Our craftsman finally got the bill to $504 plus $51.25 materials and $45 service charge, based on what she showed me on the AL website. $600.25, paid by CC.

When all was said and done, Handyman Matters wanted to bill me over $400 for their handyman showing up and attempting to fix the items. After several calls, we finally settled on us paying half since they had to pay him for his services (which mainly was running to the hardware stores) which was a rip off since everything he had done, had to be re-done. Not a good experience for me working with Handyman Matters.
Description of Work: I contacted Handyman Matters to remove and replace a shower basin, which needed to be completed before we had a company come out to replace the tile on the floor, remove the old sink & cabinet and add shut off valves to the lines and repair or replace an outside spigot. The gentleman who was sent out showed up and asked what he needed to do and had no idea he was to work on plumbing. He first started on the outside spigot, which required him to make 2 trips to the hardware store and when finished, had not tightened the threaded pipe which leaked in the basement. He then removed the old shower pan, sink and cabinet. When he could not get the shower pan to sit in the old space, which required another trip to a hardware store for supplies, he decided to put in the shut off valves to get the water back on in the house, which required another couple of trips to several hardware stores. When he finished installing the shut off valves, he turned the water back on and both valves dripped, which he left them dripping on the floor. He left for the day and promised he would return the next day and have the shower pan installed before the tile company came the next day When I called him at 10 AM the next day, since he wasn't at the house at 8 AM like he said he would be there, he said he was looking for help at the hardware store; he contacted Handyman Matters for assistance with getting the pan installed, which a manager was sent out to assist him but could not figure it out either. The next time I spoke to him was around 4 PM and he had left the job and was working at another job for Handyman Matters - our spigot leaking in the basement, the shut off valves leaking on the floor and the pan sitting sort of in place with a corner chipped off where he forced it into the shower stall. I contacted Handyman Matters and was told they would try to send someone else out which I declined and paid a professional plumber over $700 to come out and fix the spiget, the shut off valves (which had to be replaced with new 1/4 turns which the handyman did not put in) and install a new pan, since the other pan was broken on a corner.

Handyman Matters did attempt several times to finish the work for (member name removed). The issue was not installing of the shower pan, as that was set in place very easily. The issue was under where the new shower pan was to be installed. When the old shower pan was removed, it was discovered, and pictures were taken, that the old pan was NOT hooked up to the drain below. The previous installer had instead left the 1.5 inch gap between the floor drain and the bottom of the shower pan, and had packed putty around the area to direct the water to the drain. The floor drain was cut off about 1/4 inch below the level of the floor in the concrete. The tech called (member name removed) and informed him of this discovery. Unfortunately (member name removed) was out of town, and was not able to see this when we discovered. (member name removed) son was at the house. With permission, we did try to find the appropriate parts to secure the drain from the shower pan to the floor drain. We were not successful, and did direct Michael to get a master plumber out to raise the floor drain so we could then secure the shower pan in place. As we did explain to (member name removed), we did perform work at his house, and did make every attempt to set his shower pan in place. As we were not able to finish the work, we did discount the cost to (member name removed).

If we could give an "A+" review, we would! "Skip" is my hero. We bought a rustic pine mantle over a year ago. The place we purchased it said they would recommend someone to come out to install it, but they never contacted me. I called them back and they basically said they didn't know anyone. Although there were "instructions" with the mantle, it was a large piece and I knew we should have someone more qualified than either my husband or myself to make sure it was bolted into studs, not just drywall. We were INSTANTLY comfortable with "Skip," who acted as though he enjoyed the challenge of something new, and also obviously felt very comfortable with what needed to be done. Once he had looked over everything carefully, he went to the hardware store to get what he would need to do the job right and in less than two hours, we had our new mantle! We will be keeping Skip and Handyman Matters busy in the future!!

The service and quality were excellent. The Handyman arrived on time and did a great job. The pricing for this company may be slightly higher than hiring an individual, but you get the added service of the team at the call center and the improved availability of having a bunch of different people on staff. Although we just used them for the cabinet this time, we also plan to use them for other services and household fixes in the future. I would recommend them and use them again.

It felt like pretty much of a nightmare from start to finish. Handyman Matters understood our time constraints and said they could meet this time parameter, with perhaps a "little finish-up" work on Saturday of that week. I even spent the whole week helping out with trips to the store to get them any extra needed supplies. What I ended up with on Friday night of that week was a total mess -- the stove & microwave were not in place or useable, none of the bathrooms were useable, the drywall finishing (which the owner did credit us back for) was remarkably poorly done, and had to be redone by another company. The clean-up was pretty mediocre. The project ended up taking a full additional week, and a lot of the "finish" details were left undone. After they were done and gone, I had to complain to the company to even get the owner to come back and remove construction debris he had offered to remove when the job was complete. The owner was apologetic, and said it was just a multitude of bad circumstances. The only reason I'm offering to give them a "C" rating instead of and "F" was that the owner did say a number of times that he was sorry, and did credit back $500.00 off of the final $8,000.00 charges. Guess it's best not to give remodeling work to a Handyman service.
Description of Work: I called to set up remodeling work to the home we had just moved in to. The owner, Glenn, came out and gave us an estimate on replacing a double-oven wall unit with a kitchen cabinet to hold a microwave, replacing existing cabinet and stove-top with a range/oven, replacing several bathroom vanities, and drywalling two half walls downstairs and hanging doors to create separate rooms. I explained that since our home is also our piano studio, that we needed to have the bulk of the work done during Labor Day week when our studio was closed.

I was able to schedule the work on very short notice, and was quite pleased with the scheduler who handled my call. On the day of the job, the workman didn't arrive on time, so I called the office to find out what was up. Shortly thereafter the workman called back to say he was stuck in traffic. Once he did arrive, he was very thorough and meticulous about the work performed. The light fixture and sink were installed well. He even added a small support under the sink to level it. He cleaned off some fingerprints I noticed on the ceiling after he finished. He was also very conscientious about the time that he billed me for. They company had a very good special available through Angie's List as well. I would definitely consider them again.

He might have done it even in a higher standard than who I did hire but it was just a little too expensive. He was also able to give me some information that I was able to use with other quotes. It was very much a useful quote.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Handyman Matters Centennial for widening the doorway and building a wheelchair ramp, patching some wall plasters and a little bit of doing small patches.
