DECKMASTER

From the estimate given to us regarding our new stamped back porch to the completion of the job, it was a disaster. The porch did not meet the actual estimated measurement. The crews, for the most part, were late. The work was shotty. We could never get a response from the supervisor, nor the owner of the company.

First, Tom came out himself to pressure wash the railings to get as much of the old finish off as possible. My wife was home, and said he worked a very strange schedule, pressure washing for 10-15 minutes, then going to sit in his truck for 20 minutes or so. What he said would be a 2 hour job took him all day! And he made a huge mess with the water and over spray of the water everywhere (windows, etc). A few days later his crew of two guys came out. They masked off quite a bit, which I thought was a very good thing, but then they sprayed instead of hand-staining. Another huge mess. It was windy and over spray got on the deck, the house and the patio furniture. The single coating did not look adequate. I was at work, or else I would have called Tom the minute they started spraying (my wife didn't know they were supposed to do hand staining). I expressed by dissatisfaction to Tom, who said he'd send someone out to do additional touch up on the thin areas, then he'd come back and pressure wash everything to get the over spray off. They did come back and do the required touch up, then a few days later Tom came back with his pressure washer and did get most, but not all, the over spray off. He made an even bigger mess in the process, as he had to use quite a bit of water to do the washing. I still think the coating could be thicker, and would have been if hand-stained as originally quoted.
