Our problem was not so much quality as responsiveness, communication, and professionalism this time. As for quality, he and his son were able to do the ductwork, but the way they routed the ducting in the basement has made it very hard to access the adjacent crawlspace. It doesn't appear that they needed to place the duct exactly where they did and it is frustrating that they didn't notice or ask about creating that kind of barrier. They also sank a large flathead hail through our stairway wall opposite the ductwork, resulting in having to patch and then paint a huge two-story wall. They didn't mention needing to do this, and again I didn't get a sense that this was necessary or that a work-around couldn't have been figured out. If so, it would have been good for them to mention this. Additionally, when they arrived, they brought their dog for the day and let him roam around our house, as if this was a construction site without people who were actually living here. They took so long to bill us (months) that by the time they sent one, Fred offered a reduction in the amount due, which I would have appreciated if we'd been truly satisfied--as satisfied as we were with our first experience--but as it stood, it seemed like the least we could be compensated for the extra hassle, discomfort, cost of painting, and poor communication. I'd asked them to return to do some new ducting for a hood over our stovetop after the first round of ducting, Our timing was tight because we were sealing up the access to the attic where we needed the duct installed. We didn't get responses to our phone calls to try to arrange that (I wound up doing the work myself). Bottom line: for the work we got done (though we were not completely satisfied) the price was good. The quality was good in some ways, not in others (though better communication might have prevented the problems), and the professionalism was simply not good enough this time.
Description of Work: I also provided the review of service completed in July 2003. We hired Fred to come to our new house in 2010 and do some duct work during a kitchen remodel. He re-routed some ductwork so that we could remove some walls.

This review is a bit of a stretch, memorywise. I may have the year wrong and the total cost wrong, so don't quote me! I was referred to Fred Stone at Complete Climate Control by a friend who had Fred install a new furnace and A/C unit for her victorian house that she'd bought. We needed an A/C unit for our 1940s bungalow and our furnace was old. He installed both for a very low-cost and did an excellent job and moved quickly. Worked with his son and one other worker. Had to install a new circuit for the load of the A/C unit, etc. Ran conduit for this under our patio that we were excavating and went super-deep as required. Very thorough and service-oriented. Sort of a gruff type, which I happen to appreciate in the trades, when they do a very good job. Also, several years later I had a problem with a pressure switch inside my furnace that basically made the thiing stop producing heat. I called in the late evening and Fred answered. He knew I'm somewhat mechanical and up for small challenges, and he was able to help me diagnose and fix the problem right over the phone, saving him the hassle of coming out and me the cost and wait of a service call on a cold night. Great!
Description of Work: Installed new furnace and A/C unit in a house that didn't have A/C.
