When she came out initial she gave us designs. We went to her showroom and saw different companies of cabinets that she carried. She priced out the difference of the cabinets right there and gave us suggestions of what cabinet might be the best for the decor of our house. Was johnny on the spot and had no real issues. Very professional and did not really push us. Helped us in a professional way. Included me and my husband in the entire process. Was nothing you would change.
Description of Work: They redid the cabinets in the kitchen and also did bookcases and custom bench seat in the kitchen/dining area

We provided Judy with a copy of the architect's plan, which laid out the design in detail, and she eventually came out herself and measured for the kitchen cabinets. About a week later, our contractor noticed that she had ordered 36" upper cabinets instead of 42" cabinets, as it calls for in the architect's drawing. We called her immediately to stop the order and were informed that it was too late, the cabinets had been constructed and we owned them. And yes, we are at fault for signing off on the order, but we admittedly knew nothing about cabinets and were depending on her expertise, based on the plans and her measurements, to order the right stuff. This did not happen. It was made clear that our only option at this point was to reorder the correct cabinets and pay her cost for the wrong ones( $1500, according to her) and attempt to sell them. A few weeks later Judy called and advised that we had to make payment for the delivery, which would be $550. None of us had ever heard of a delivery costing $550 but we had no choice but to pay it. We asked that they be brought into the living room as there was little room left in the garage for storage. We were told that this would be an extra charge, but after some strong words, Judy agreed to pay whatever the extra was going to be. We now begin installing the cabinets. When we get to the kitchen sink cabinet, we discover that it is a 30" instead of a 36", which will not accomodate the new 33" sink we had just purchased. Again, Judy advises us that the fault is ours, as we signed off on the order. Right again. We signed off because we thought she knew what she was doing. We now own the wrong sink cabinet and Judy magnanimously offers to sell us the proper cabinet at her cost. She takes no responsibility for ordering anything incorrectly, in spite of having the plans, having measured, and supposedly knowing about cabinets. At this point, we go to another cabinet dealer and reorder the correct 36" sink cabinet, which is now going to take almost a month for us to get. This puts the entire project way behind schedule and delays the measurements for the granite countertops. As I write this, we still have 14 days before delivery of the new sink cabinet. Judy seems to be a nice person, but in our opinion, we would look far and wide before we would rely on her so-called expertise for anything. Addendum 7/13/11: Our architect/designer team visited to check on the progress. Afterward, they sent an email, part of which follows: "I?ve been thinking again about your kitchen designer and she makes me so mad. The worst part is how she is completely unwilling to take any responsibility for her screwups. At the very least, she should have offered a compromise. I got your plans out again just now and measured the sink on the drawing with my scale. It scales 33?. So she doesn?t even know how to use a scale. If you look at the general notes, the seventh note says ?dimensions take precedence over drawing ? DO NOT SCALE!?. And, the notes say that the uppers are 42? tall; and the notes say nothing about the microwave being 36?. That woman is so unprofessional, she shouldn?t even be promoting herself as a kitchen designer. I guess my point is that if you wanted to call a lawyer into this, you would be in a very strong position."
Description of Work: We were doing a kitchen/bath remodel, so we hired a professional designer/architect team to draw up plans for the remodel. We used an experienced general contractor (who happens to be in the family) to oversee the project and perform some of the work. Since neither my wife nor I know anything about cabinets, we consulted with Cabinets of Denver, which happens to be in our neighborhood. My wife liked the owner right away and decided to use her for helping us choose the right cabinets and ordering them. We ended up ordering cabinetry from her for the new kitchen and one bathroom.

Response from Cabinets of Denver
Of course there are always two sides to the story. After talking to [Member name removed] she and I agreed that the 42 inch cabinets were awfully tall for such a small kitchen. She decided to change the order to 36 tall cabinets. The drawings and the contract were quite clear about that. Both the contract and the drawings were signed off prior to my ordering the cabinets. The contract also said the pricing was plus delivery charges to the garage. The delivery costs were not $550.00 or even close to it. Since [Member name removed] was so irate about taking the cabinets into the garage and not the house I went ahead and paid the extra charge. The driver/delivery man was actually afraid of what was going on and called me from the jobsite. I could hear [Member name removed] yelling in the background. Since [Member name removed] had approved the changes to the drawings and the design, I didn't feel that I was in the wrong. I enjoyed working with [Member name removed] quite a bit so when her husband and son (the contractor) had a fit over the changes I offered to let her have the wall cabinets at my cost. I will not work with a customer without discussing with them about changes that might be something they might like. It is up to them to decide what they like or don't like. I felt that the cabinets were overbearing in the small kitchen and only suggested that she go to a shorter cabinet. She agreed. If [Member name removed] and his son were interested in how this project was progressing then they should have been in on the discussions. I am sorry that this job didn't go well for my customer. It is unusual to have this type of outcome. I am usually friends with my customers when the remodel is finished.
