they I hired Beacon after a hail storm to replace my roof shingles and paint my siding. through a recommendation of a neighbor who had used them and would get a cash rebate for them for any one he referred them to (will address that piece later) The good part about Beacon is that the representative was very professional and offered to meet with my insurance company after they deemed my roof only partially damaged, and show them how it was more damaged and thus agree to a total replacement. Other roofing companies were also willing to meet with my insurer to do the same. I stuck with Beacon after a long delay on my part, because they performed this initial service and so I felt it was the right thing to do, despite the fact that I had many reservations. I asked them for a price quote repeatedly. repeatedly the rtep said he would provide me with one but really never did until the insurance numbers came through. He asked me to sign a binding contract which to my discredit - i did, without a quote, my fault. He had told me that he worked it out with insurance - I would have no out of pocket expenses (which I did not BTW) Here;s my problem with Beacon: when they contracted their work out to the painter they always use - they also had a guy oversee him (one painter only for a large house) the work was done but very sloppily, things that were promised to be done (that they had found and offered to do, not I) such as fill in woodpecker hole, replace one piece of siding, etc..) were not only never done despite - asking them and reminding them several times - but the work was not professionally finished and for the price they charged was well below par. many pieces of the work were not done at all - such as replacing screens to windows or painting the outside of windows. The deck was painted as if kids in elementary school had done the job. I called asked for a walk through and asked for them to rectify - they did - sort of - not well - still not satisfactory. In fact many other pieces they had agreed to with my insurance company such as straightening the compressor by combin git out, or replacing damaged screens to windows - were not TOUCHEd yet when it came time to payment they wanted to collect the entire amount. The rep I worked with - Andy, really really nice young man, very professional, accommodating, punctual - seemed more interested in his Tee time than what really went on with my house. Again, I have nothing against him and he was a lovely person, but clearly not truly interested in the job getting done right. there are so many more details - but it gets boring - suffice it to say - that for the amount of money my insurance company paid them to do a phenomenal job - they did not at all - and it wasn't any rudeness or lack of attentiveness - it was an underlying kind of phenomena - where all the right things are said and there is follow up - verbally - but in reality - none of it is real. Additionally - i would like to point out - that I originally was going to replace my windows through them - they offered me a cheap option (which I asked for) and told me they were builder grade windows but still very very good - when it came time to doing it - they had misquoted me by thousands of dollars - oh you see they forgot to charge for labour - but no one would take responsibility for the error - Andy blamed his contractor - who blamed him in return who blamed him back - all in a nice way - no one even remembered giving that quote - though it had been given to me several times. No matter - mistakes and errors occur right? So Andy, tried to rectify by bringing in a rep for great windows and told me several times he was going to save me tons of money - and i mean tons - the rep came over , the price had gone up by 10K (for the CHEAPER option) !!! What a savings! The more expensive option had gone up by 20K not so much a big savings1 So - windows were abandoned - but lo and behold they never came back to paint the existing window trims. Honest mistake - i had no beef with that what I did have an issue with was still trying to collect the funds for that piece of the work along with other pieces that were not done. As a result - i went through each piece that was agreed to item by irem and went over it with him to see whether it was done or not - by this point I had abandoned the idea of asking for the woodpecker holes to be filled in etc... even then Andy tried to refute the items - but i did not relent and got him to take those pieces off the cost. It turns out - another hail storm had hit a different township - and there were lots of insurance companies paying to get roofs replaced. sidings painted etc for great amounts of money that Beacon had to be a part of and have their people there to work on it - I was old history! As an addendum - before starting the work - I called Beacon and spoke to one of the owners - i forgot her name - told her what i expected and what some of my concerns were 0 she assured me I had the greatest rep and that they had been around for quite some time - not a fly by night company (which they are not btw) I should have gone with my gut, and had I known about Angie's list at the time - i would have used the list - i did not belong or know much about it. The guy who highly recommended Beacon - well, despite several times reminding Andy that he was the one who referred them and they owed him money for that referral - he NEVER received that $200.00!!! Not a huge surprise!
