Allied Exteriors

We recently purchased a home in Parker. There was roof damage. We contacted a roofing company to suggest needed repairs, but the previous owner chose to go with Allied, who performed services - but less than the roofer we contacted had suggested. Allied also provided a certification stating "this inspection reveals that the roof and roof covering is in better than satisfactory condition with no evidence of leaks, and has a minimum remaining life expectancy of years: 5" and "The following repairs were considered necessary and have been completed in a workmanlike manner: Tear off one square of TAMKO Old English Pewter. Tear off all rotted plywood. Replace plywood and re-shingle one square of Tamko Olde English Pewter. Seal all." Also, "ALLIED EXTERIORS WILL WARRANTY THE ROOF FOR ANY LABOR FOR FIVE YEARS." About three weeks after we moved in, we had our first rain. Immediately, water began coming into the master bedroom (which is flush with the front wall of the house), bulging the ceiling drywall and leaking through. There was also water coming in over the front living room window, which is NOT flush with the edge of the roof, since there is a front porch overhang. We contacted Allied, they sent out a very nice young man who scratched his head and said that it wasn't the roof, might be an attic vent window over the master bedroom. OK. Later, however, we had another rain that resulted in zero water coming in over the master bedroom, but significant water coming in over the front living room window (again - not at the edge of the roof, but under a porch, a good 3-4 feet back from the edge of the shingles). There was significant damage to the interior of the house. We contacted our insurance company, who came out and said that the damage was not cause by the current storm but because of prior bad condition of the roof. Since we have a roof certification, we assumed - apparently incorrectly - that Allied would honor their roof certification that said there was no evidence of leaks, when clearly the roof is leaking, has twice since we moved into it in May. We have called twice and Allied has not called back. At this point we feel like we have little choice but to to contact another roofer to make the required fixes before we have a catastrophic snow or rain damage incident, and will file in small claims court against Allied to try to recover some of those costs.
