Commercial and residential painting - interior and exterior, power washing, & drywall repair.
Price was competitive, lower than other bids for same project. Juan (painter) promptly showed up for work each morning and stayed completely committed to the job. He is very easygoing and pleasant, paying a lot of attention to preparation, detail and clean-up. You barely know he's there, which is a really good thing under such potentially disruptive circumstances. He's a very hard worker with a lot of talent, repairing dents and flaws so they are virtually unnoticeable after painting. Rich (owner) is easy to work with and flexible with any unforeseen changes. He checks in on the progress regularly and stays on top of things, communicating in advance on any deviations in schedule and such. Would recommend.
Description of Work: 1) Painted three floors of interior walls in chosen colors, which included high ceilings. 2) Primed and painted wood tone baseboard trim and doors in white throughout house 3) Painted entire basement-level ceiling in flat white 4) Painted two wood decks and stairs in chosen color 5) Converted kitchen and bath cabinets from old, tired wood grain to beautiful painted finish

A Brush with Success did a fabulous interior painting job on my personal home. The two person crew was at my home for eight days, one painter was great at the large areas and the other was skilled with the detail trim work. It was the perfect combination. Overall they painted everything in my 3 bedroom, 3 bath home. The scope increased during the job, and they were very decent on pricing without gouging. I am very satisfied and will be having them back again soon for some additional work on my remodel project.
Description of Work: Complete interior painting of 3 bedroom, 3 bath home of approximately 2400 sq ft. Paint job consisted of four total colors, 2 accents, main and trim.

The painting went really well. I scheduled the project through Rich Lyons, the owner. He was great to work with. While he was super busy, he got me on the calendar for 3 weeks out. His employee, Josh, showed up on the scheduled date and performed the job to completion in one business day. I asked him to put on two coats and he was fine with that. Both rooms also had accent walls. The lines are sharp and the paint covers the walls well. I haven't seen any mistakes yet.

It went very well except for a beam in the front of the house. After a couple of months, seams in the wood started opening up. I called Rich and he was very quick to take care of it. Now the beam looks very good. I was very impressed with the professionalism and the follow up. Rich contacted me a few days later to make sure we were happy with the work.
Description of Work: Painted exterior of the house. Prior to paining, we needed to replace some of the wood on the exterior. Rich recommended a carpenter who did very good work.

We purchased the coupon for 2 painters for 8 hours for $575. The owner came out and discussed the job and decided we only needed 1 painter for 2 days (16 hours total), sounds good to us. The painter was very professional and respectful. He did a lot of prep work to make sure everything was neat. He cleaned up at the end of each day. His work was top notch. We highly recommend them!

Felt the work was done well and quickly for a competitive price. I did have to request that the kitchen cabinets be touched up by hand since they are older oak and the 2 spray coats did not fill all the deep grain. Though it did take an extra trip out to touch up you cannot tell, the coat is smooth. Only other issue was the sub-par clean up: paint droplets on the counter, wood floor and one spot on the carpet, as well as 2 other larger spills that weren't completely cleaned up (haze on the floor). There was also one long scratch on the wood floor. It appeared that they only put an 6-12 in "skirt" of paper along that base boards as a drop cloth. So my recommendation would be to ask that more extensive drop cloths be used to protect a finished home.
Description of Work: Painted the walls of the great room and painted the kitchen cabinets (removed sprayed and rehung the doors/rolled the rest).

I saw Rich on Day 1. I never saw him again. The crew that showed up turned out to be another painting company all together (I will not name them here as they are not the problem). So Rich basically uses Angie's List to "get the job", get the bid, jacks the price up and then has other companies do the work. This, by itself, doesn't bother me aside from the fact that I could get a much better deal from the company who did the work if I didn't go through Rich. (Rich doesn't tell you he does this either). What bothers me most is that, aside to drop of paint, Rich never came by. He never inspected the finished product. He takes NO interest in your happiness after he gets you on the hook. His behavior clearly demonstrates this. Although the crew did a good job in lot of areas (or most), they were obviously rushed as I was told several times they had other jobs stacking up. (i.e. They lost a good bit of time as they painted one entire area of the house the wrong color. That said, they were honest, owned up to the mistake and repainted the entire area.) As they completed areas, I'd do my best to check for quality and they were responsive in fixing what I pointed out. I didn't, however, get to review all the work until days/weeks after they had left. I was very specific with Rich in planning the job and my desired outcomes. Due to the previous homeowner's crappy paint job (on a smooth finish no less) I had asked Rich to have his crew prep the walls by sanding and scraping them to look better and more "clean". A lot of the house was done, a lot of it wasn't. One example, the stairway to our basement was painted without adequate prepping done. I pointed this out to Rich and he said they'd "fix" it (keep in mind he NEVER came to do a walkthrough himself). They were rushed at this point as they were behind on getting to the next job and I don't have time to oversee this level of detail. This part of the work was done very poorly and even the repairs look terrible. Rich takes no accountability for his work. He blames me for not telling him about mistakes that were made. I'd expect someone who charges me $6500 for services to get in his car and come make sure that things were done right. The only correspondence I received from Rich after the job was to ask me where his check was. Then he ventured into telling me that "it doesn't take a week for bill pay" basically accusing me of not sending my check. After I verified he received the check, I reached out to him as I had found a lot of issues with the job that I wanted corrected. Given there was never a formal walkthrough, I had found these issues as we had lived in the house over the next few weeks. Given unpacking, etc. checking the paint job wasn't first priority so it took me a little while. Here is a direct quote from my text correspondence with him: AUGUST 3, 2015 Me: I'm assuming you got your check Rich: I did. Thank you Me. I'm assuming that now you got your money, you're happy. Now that that's out of the way, understand that I was less than impressed with the intentionality you took toward my happiness. You didn't even do a walk through yourself to inspect quality. Additionally, to do this and effectively sub out the work to another company isn't exactly what I was paying for. So let me get this straight, you advertise on Angie's List and then hire another company to do the work. Did I get that right? xxxx (other painting company name) generally did a good job, but were obviously rushed in some parts. Paint drops on the floor, paint on our marble counters, paint on white trim are examples of what I've found since the job was completed. I paid for the best and while (other painting company) did the work, I was paying you to make sure that I was 100% satisfied. That didn't happen. And since then I've been questioned as to whether I sent payment. Subsequently, I will not be referring you any business. That is unless you'd like to swing by and see what I'm referring to. If I don't hear from you, I'll assume you're on to new things. Enjoy the week. Rich 2:45PM: John, I would love to come by any time Rich 5:13PM: What is good for you John? Rich 6:24PM: Still waiting to hear back from you? Me 6:49PM: I'm available Saturday morning or sometime next week NO RESPONSE August 17th, 2015 Me: Well, I never heard back from you on my suggested times. NO RESPONSE August 23, 2015 Me: Hi Rich, here are several photos (I texted photos of the deficiencies) of material issue I have with the job quality. I paid a lot to get the job done right. You had said you were interested in coming by and I never heard back from you...twice. I'm pretty ****** off. You profit largely off the work of others and don't stand by the end product. That's pretty lame. In fact, you didn't even inspect the end product after completion to ensure everything was done right. A this point you have two choices: Option One: don't take care of things within two weeks and I'll be reporting you to Angie's List and anyone else who'll listen to do business with you. I'll also post on Stapleton Swap and NextDoor about my experience. I'm not being unreasonable. You left the job incomplete and never inspected the quality. Option Two: fix my issues to MY satisfaction. Personally inspect the remainder of the job to ensure no further quality issues. Additionally, provide to me, at cost, touchup for my trim and ceiling. Lastly, I have 14 stair risers that need painted white from when the hardwoods were installed. Provide that service to me at cost. Lastly, personally inspect all work to ensure completion to MY satisfaction. Let me know what you decide to do. Rich: Just for your knowledge, I lost all respect for you when you tried to hire Alonso behind my back. I then looked up your company on thr (his misspelling) internet and it stated integrity. You have none. I don't work for or with people like that. (note that I spoke with the other painting company owner about a subsequent job that I didn't want to go through Rich on given he wasn't doing the work and I saw no value in him in the equation. He told Rich that I wanted to hire him out of respect for him, but apparently I have no integrity for doing so). Me: After your job, I'm free to hire whoever I wish. You got paid. You didn't even do the work. I'll be reporting you to the BBB for unethical business practices. Angie's list and the rest will know, too. Congratulations on running a company who doesn't stand behind his work...er or the company you hired to do the work. For your information, I'd prefer to work with (other painting company) because HIS COMPANY did the work. You didn't. You mark up the job and don't even come by except to drop off paint. You have zero concern about the satisfaction of your customers. Oh, and you'll be hearing from my attorney. Rich: No integrity Me: Look in the mirror. You're the "service provider". Maybe you should think about actually providing a service. I'm the customer. Your practices are unethical. Rich: Actually we did come back twice. That is enough to handle any problem. Thanks for the work. Me: Perhaps you should take note that I'm probably not the only one who feels this was. People expect quality when paying $6K+ for services. People want to do business with those who actually inspect the work they do. Rich: Please go away Me: Ok. I'll see you in court. Rich: Sure END So I apologize for the long-winded complaint, but after reading Rich's previous negative reviews there seems to be a constant theme. Read the responses he gives to those who complain. He blames them and questions their character virtually every time. I'm sure he will do the same here. At times, he's downright nasty. To quote him on one of his responses, he said, "I'm happy to show the quality of any job I've done." Well, Rich, feel free to give your prospective clients my number and I'm happy to send them pictures of the great" quality you oversee. For the record, I have hired dozens of contractors over 15 years and this is the FIRST F rating I've given. Avoid Rich at all costs. As long as things go his way, he's fine. But when he gets called out, YOU WILL BE BLAMED AND HE WILL NOT FOLLOW THROUGH.
Description of Work: Hired Rich Lyons and A Brush with Success to paint ~4000 sq ft of interior space. I needed someone to be able to do so on rather short notice (he bid about 2 weeks before we needed to begin work as we were closing on a new home and wanted to get the painting done before we moved in). Rich was pleasant to begin with and very accommodating. I decided to go with him because I thought he was seriously concerned about my satisfaction and the quality of his jobs. He does have significant positive reviews on Angie's List. So I took the leap.

2 words to describe this person. Zero integrity! When I called him out for trying to hire my guys to do work behind my back he got very upset. Told me he can hire whom ever he would like. Yes he can.. just not my guys. He got rude and I told him I would not be over for anything else. Also we did do all the work in bid and more. Went over twice for any touch up items. I could go on but will not bore you with details. Just ask me. None to happy with anyone who would try and get my workers to do work on the side. They always tell me He is the type who tries to blame everything on anyone else and wants something for nothing. Took him a month to pay his invoice. Not a very nice person. By the way.. we are always on time, extremely responsive, competitively priced, and quality is top priority, Professionalism is subjective to the customer.. but rarely is a issue as I consider my self and crew very professional.

Rich and his crew were great to work with. Showed up right when they said they were, got right to work, and did a great job! They did all the tapping, prepping of the walls, and applied two coats of paint to the two rooms we needed done. Also provided some good advice if we wanted to do any more work in the future. Great experience and quality work!

From beginning to end, this was a fabulous experience! I needed my entire interior, approx 2000 sq ft (including 20+ foot walls and some ceiling touch-ups from previous painters' screw-ups) to place on the market. My first experience with having the entire townhouse painted, with a now defunct company, was HORRIBLE.... It took them 3 weeks, with up to 10 people working on some days, they never actually totally finished before I had to leave town for a few months, and not only were those people incompetent, but horribly unprofessional and, well, it was just a nightmare! So, I was admittedly apprehensive needing to trust someone to do it all over, especially as my walls were needing to become neutral from the crazy colors I'd chosen before-- they had to cover walls that were 15 coats of red paint, 20+ foot walls that were purple and lime green! And all needed to become, magically, revere pewter, which is a light grey/ beige-ish color.... Rich was great when we met for the estimate- from being able to meet ASAP but on my schedule, to giving a lower estimate out of 3-4 companies. Scheduling the job was a breeze on my end, as I was working with several other people doing different things to prep to list! When he estimated 2-3 days, I was skeptical, but for naught! Not only did he finish in the time he estimated, I added 3 full bathrooms (1 of them not only very large, but needing a steady hand as not a single wall was without details like mirrors, and it's like a 6 wall room!) and his painters still finished in the original estimated time frame. I had to go out of town, so he worked well with my realtor to get approval of job completion. The screw ups from the first painters, which happened to be red brush strokes, lots of them, on a white ceiling-- complicated by the fact they were 7 years old-- were perfected by Rich's crew. My only interaction with the painters was just s few minutes at the start of the job, but they were friendly and professional, and they were obviously hard- working -- I believe Rich was not onsite other than to give them instructions and final walkthrus... I also had a great appreciation for the fact that I could communicate with anyone working on the job, as there has been a company in the past my HOA hired to do some interior warranty work - incl full wall rebuilds- and would send crews of 10+ people, not a single one English-speaking. You can easily find companies with horrific reviews and numerous complaints, not easy to find companies that don't have a single one, but these guys, for me, not a single negative thing to say!!! They will certainly be my first call when I buy my new home!!!
Description of Work: Rich came to the property to provide an estimate, and had employees meet him the day work began to make introductions and provide instruction.

We've used A Brush With Success before so when we needed to spruce up our house before putting it on the market and we were running out of time, we called Rich to help us out. He sent Josh back out to our house within days. Josh did an exceptional job, again (he had come before). He was very professional, personable, courteous, and has the steadiest hand we've ever seen. This is a GREAT company and we highly recommend them.

We were very pleased with this company. Josh was timely on both of the days he was working, and he did an excellent job of covering everything and cleaning up when he was finished. Rich, the owner, stopped by a couple of times to check on progress, so I felt that the job was well supervised. Rich sent us an invoice for payment that accurately reflected the bid he had given. We would definitely use A Brush with Success again and would recommend them without reservation.

The service was for painting and priming for 7 hours. I called the owner and informed him that the wall was not primed as the Deal mention they would. The owner was very difficult to deal with and unprofessional. I tired to work with him and getting a resolution that would satisfy both parties and he refused. I had to get the room re-painted at my expense because not only did they not prime but the paint itself didn't look good.

Response from A Brush with Success Inc
1st of all let me state that this member sent a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and they dismissed it completely. This member purchased a 7 hour coupon with options of priming and painting or both. The 2 gentlemen I sent over to do the work arrived on time and completed the work they were pointed to in the 7 hour time frame. The paint was still drying when they left. I received a call as to streaking in the paint job. I discussed with the member the product used which I personally did not recommend and was purchased by the member. The member stated that the workers did not prime. I then went to my workers and asked them about priming. They both stated that there was no primer to prime with and the member had purchased paint with primer in it. The member was too busy chit chatting on the phone to speak to the painters directly but they have been with me for several years and both are accomplished in their profession. Also both have been college educated and could decipher what the member wanted by the pointing out of the project. After speaking to the member again to let them know that there was no primer available the member stated that the primer was there. The guys told me again there was not primer, but the member was very upset at this point and wanted to know what I was going to do about the streaking. After finding out what would be satisfactory for this member I gave them 2 different times in which I could send someone up to take care of the problem. The member could not be home at that particular time and suggested another time that did not work for my schedule. At this time the member decided that I should be giving them a refund. I let them know that we had been there for 7 hours as described by the coupon and I would not give them a refund. I was offering to fix what ever the problem was for free and this was not good enough for the member. At this point they threatened me with an email which I have kept for all interested, stating "I appreciate your 7 hours. I am going to return the favor with 7 women hours of bad reviews." At this point we were finished with all further discussions. The point of trying to work with someone was way over stated by member. The only resolution was to give the member $ back. The shame in a review like this is we did the job but the member chose the products which were not acceptable for the project and tries to put the blame on me?? Member did not have primer and the guys who work for me were vehement in their assertion that there was no primer. We did the best we could with what the home owner was supposed to supply. I also offered to come back for free and just because my dates did not work into the schedule of the member I am to blame for what should be considered the owner failure to discuss this project in full prior to doing the project. Easier to blame someone else and not take responsibility for their own actions.

I confess it has taken me close to a year to write this review, but the fact that I am still thinking about what a great job A Brush with Success, Inc. did in my home a year later is a testament to how good they really are! When we purchased our home a little less than a year ago we had A Brush with Success, Inc. come in and paint our home prior to moving in. We originally only contracted with them to paint a few of the rooms, however, after realizing how reasonable they were we quickly added on more rooms until eventually they had practically painted the entire house! One of the things that I appreciated most is the fact that the owner, Rich Lyons, was constantly checking in on his workers and giving me status updates throughout the entire process. There was never a time where I was left wondering what was going on or when something would be completed. I also appreciated that Rich really stuck to his deadlines. When one of the workers who was at painting at my house fell ill and was not able to make it there that day Rich called me immediately to let me know that his painter would not be there at our agreed upon time. Then, knowing that we were moving in on a certain date, he sent over two of his other painters (a lovely pair of brothers, both of whom have served our country) after hours to finish the work so we could move in when planned! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND A Brush with Success, Inc. to anyone looking for a painter! ...one last thing: Their work was so well done that they were actually able to fix some of the mistakes that previous painters had made! ...ok two last things: I am a bit of a Do-It-Yourselfer and when Rich saw me struggling with a small painting job I was working on he actually stopped to give me pointers on how to do it correctly and and on what kind of brushes to use!
