Everyone did an excellent job. They dug the necessary opening by hand, thus minimizing the effect a machine would have created. All of their preparation and work was exceptional. Everything was done as promised on the date scheduled and with no extra expenses. Professional employees and Alejandro, the owner was very professional and friendly. The finished project was perfect, done exactly as promised. The protective cover was custom made by his associates and painted in a color we chose.
Description of Work: We hired A to Z to install egress windows in our basement. They had to replace the small windows with the larger windows as required by code. The house is 60+ years old.

I checked out 4 contractors and based on reviews and price I picked A to Z basement to install an egress windwo. Alejandro came out to give me a bid on existing window (not in the bedroom) but I really wanted the egress window to be in the bedroom so it would be legal and safe. He agreed to install this window in the bedroom which required him to create a new hole in my 3 layers of brick wall and take a diamond saw to my foundation. Juan performed the work and did an excellent job in about 1.5 days, he was punctual, professional and clean up after the install. Overall this was an excellent experience and I highly recommend them.

When I hire a contractor, I never expect things to go perfectly. I judge them on how well they respond to any issues. There were several miscommunications and in the end I was left holding the bag on almost every single issue. I did get them to re-caulk a window that had too small of a window installed in the first place. I did get them to come back and re-weld the window covers after initially resisting, but only because my 30 pound dog almost fell through when the welds broke and I told him this was a non-negotiable safety issue. One window well was installed too low (we did have a conversation about this window and it was not put at the height discussed) and now it looks odd compared to other windows. One window well had a 6" crack and many other pieces missing. Manufacturer told me it needed an epoxy repair. Owner told me there was no need due to lifetime guarantee (Mfg. only guarantees for 10 yrs., BTW) Angie's listing states he accepts PayPal and he was OK with PayPal payment until he realized they charged a fee and then harassed me for a check. I hired 8 other contractors for various work around my home this summer and this was the only contractor I felt took advantage of me. Window well prices were fair, windows installed were of Home Depot generic size variety and therefore overpriced compared to other bids received. Other bids manufactured the windows to fit exactly and would have fit better for lower price.

They showed up promptly when scheduled. I had three complaints with the work. 1. Windows are of generic size ordered from Home Depot. I was under the impression they would be made to fit like my windows in rest of home. There were large gaps in a couple of widows and the gaps were covered with window trim/flashing. It was not a neat job but they did come back and try to correct with more caulking. 2. Window well covers that came with package were not correct size so he cut them down and welded back together. The welds were inferior and my 35 lb dog almost fell through one on 2nd day. They did come back and re-welded the joints but they are still pretty flimsy. 3. One window well was put in at incorrect height and looks somewhat awkward from the outside and inside. Website advertises they accept Paypal. Be aware this is not the case. They accept cash or checks only. I tried to pay by Paypal and owner did not want to pay the fees associated with Paypal. I had to make a special trip to my office to get him a check.

We would highly recommend A-Z Basements for egress windows and other basement windows. Alejandro and his crew were here on time on the day agreed upon, the workmanship is great and they did a great job cleaning up when finished. We will be using A-Z again when we are ready for our 2nd egress window. Price was competitive for the work being done.

Alejandro and his crew were great to work with. They were very busy even during the off season, but showed up on a weekend and dug the hole and removed the dirt. The window took 2 days to install and we are very happy with the results. My only critique is that we paid to have a permit and inspection that has not been done yet. I keep calling Alejandro to remind him but I think he is so busy with other projects.

Alejandro and his crew are wonderful! So easy to work with, he bid the job quickly, gave us the estimated start date (which he stuck to, even with the snow.) His crew were very nice, on time, did the work, cleaned up and were expert craftsmen. We are so happy with the work done and look forward to working with A-Z basements again. They will be doing interior basement work - insulation for us soon.

Highly recommend this company! Alejandro called us back the same day we made the inquiry, and was able to schedule the job quickly. The crew was quick, did a great job, made sure to clean up after themselves, and answered any questions we had. In addition, they had the best price for egress windows.

When I look for a contractor, I usually break out in sweats and suffer from heart palpitations. We all have heard of nightmarish stories of unscrupulous contractors or worse yet, have experienced first-handed the horrific situations, problems, and incompetence of those to whom you entrust the very structure of your home. NOT SO with Alejandro and A to Z Basements. Because he owns the Company, Alejandro takes pride in the workmanship and professionalism of those whom he employs, as well as the quality of the materials he uses. Alejandro provided his proposal in writing, delivered everything he said he would, and did not try and raise the price. He also had to have a custom window well and cover made because of an overhang on the house, something that he noticed right away. I asked the City Inspector if A to Z Basements had done a good job, and he replied "yes," and was impressed that they had bolted the small escape ladder to the window well. I always do my homework before I hire a contractor, and am very pleased that I chose A to Z Basements. From beginning to end, the entire transaction was seamless and enjoyable. Alejandro required no money "up front" and would not even accept payment until the installation was signed off by the Inspector. How often have you heard of that? I would be proud to have Alejandro as a friend. R.A., Littleton, CO

The job went very well. The vendor was on time each day. The work required three days. The work was completed on time and without over time. In fact they finished on day 3 early. The noise was actually quite low for this type of work, so not a disturbance to any neighbors who might have been home during the day. The vendor was friendly, inquisitive about my needs, and did an excellent job for a very reasonable price when compared to others offering similar services.
Description of Work: The provider removed an old decrepit window well from a cement base and installed a new modern window well, now window well flooring, ladder, and a new egress window.

A to Z started the work on a Friday before a big snowstorm in April 2013. They successfully installed the window before the snow began to melt. Alejandro is smart, efficient, and does great work. We ended up needing to do some further drainage work because our neighbor's gutters were pouring into our window well. He is consistently smart and does the right thing for the situation. We will be using him to install the remainder of our window wells in this house.
Description of Work: Put in an egress window in a non-conforming basement bedroom. The egress window well construction is made of timber and was done to code with permits and approval from the City of Arvada.

I called A to Z for an estimate on an egress window that I needed installed. There was not an existing window, so a rough opening had to be cut. Alejandro showed up within two days and was very professional. He provided an estimate on the spot along with the manufacture information on the product he was going to install. I needed to have a structural engineer review the location of the window since there was a beam located adjacent to the rough opening. Alejandro had his engineer provide drawings and a letter of constructability along with a building permit. Alejandro did exactly what he said he was going to do. When it came time to install, Alejandro told me when he was going to be there and showed up on time ready to do the job. Having worked in the construction industry for over 20 years, I know first hand good contracting and Alejandro delivered. Further his pricing was extremely competitive compared to all the other pricing I got. Interestingly none of the other quotes that I received wanted to commit to a schedule for doing the job, whereas Alejandro was very clear in when he could schedule me in. For that I would highly recommend him and his company for this type of service! Great Job!

A to Z was the lowest bid I got ($2700 vs $3400 to $3600 for 4 other bids). I chose another contractor because I was concerned about the quality of the Monarch window well and Windsor window he uses, but I wish I'd saved myself $500 and went with A to Z. Most other contractors used Boman Kemp wells and Milgard or AmeriMax windows. Having done more research, I'm pretty sure all wells are the same and the most common problem, rust, is an installation issue rather than a manufacturing issue. Milgard and AmeriMax are local companies used by a lot of window installers (I'm also getting window bids), so i trusted those brands more. Alejandro was very professional, prompt and friendly.

A to Z Basements did the job right, cleaned up well, and was a pleasure to work with. We would recommend them for egress windows and construction of window wells. If you can't find them online, you can email Alejandro at atozbasements@msn.com.
Description of Work: A to Z Basements is excellent. Alejandro was referred through a trusted contractor to install an egress window in our Boulder home. Communication was prompt and easy. He always responded quickly to our calls and emails. He provided an accurate estimate and explained everything he planned to do. Along the way, Alejandro was flexible when we requested adjustments to the plan and did some extra work we requested, such as installing trim on the interior. Attention to detail was excellent. His assistant, Juan, is really skilled with a cement saw. These guys take pride in their work and it shows.

Company is now called a to z in egress windows. The owner came out and gave us a bid that was 1/2 of other bids that we were getting. More importantly we felt other companies were doing egress windows as a way to get kill time while waiting for larger work, while with this company it was clear this is what they specialize in. The owner had some great suggestions as well. Work was done by the owner, not subcontracted out, he did the work on time, on budget and it looks fantastic. His finnish work on the interior was top notch as well. Removed all debris and left the yard in great condition.we have referred him to our friends (one who used him for 11 windows on multiple properties they own) and have just contracted with him to do another window in our house as we continue to remodel. Great work from a great guy.
