Our kitchen was gutted due to a dishwasher leak. The services we requested included installation of a sub floor, laminate floor, new kitchen cabinets, patio door, plumbing, electrical and installation of kitchen appliances/hood/washer and dryer. We contacted Lucky Star Construction owner Paul Daniels. Conversations over the phone were friendly and reassuring. My meetings with Paul prior to hiring him were exactly what I expected. He was easy going, friendly and reassuring. It had been several weeks since we moved out of our home and my kids and I were anxious to move back in. We chose Paul over other contractors because of his easy going no worries attitude. As soon as Paul and his team began to work on our kitchen his attitude changed completely. Once Paul started working he felt no need to communicate his work schedule. They showed up whenever and left whenever. Serval times I was told they would be at my house to work but no one would show up. One of our main concerns was that one employee would start the job and then two or three days later another employee would show up and complete it causing installations issues. Some days Paul was nice but most days when we met with him he would sound resentful and angry. He was insolent, once even walking out of the house during our conversation. We were desperate to end this exhausting ordeal with our kitchen and dealing with Paul created so much anxiety and uncertainty that we treated him with kid gloves and refrained from confronting him worried he would leave us in the middle of the project. During the time Paul and his employees worked on our kitchen they we extremely disrespectful to our other items. They left supplies and tools in my living room after I asked them not to. My washer and dryer were full of dust and scratches. A couple of days after returning to my house the washer broke and I had to replace it. I had a new range and hood vent waiting to be installed but it looked anything but new once they walked out. Several items were broken during the period they worked on my kitchen including my surround sound speaker and items in my patio where they carelessly threw all the materials and equipment they used. Once the floor was installed we noticed flaws with the installation. Paul denied that anything was wrong even though some areas were creaking when stepped on. At the same time I also learned that the installer no longer worked for him due to other installations problems. Paul promised to fix the floor but did not. A week before we had to move back home I received an email from Paul stating that he considered the job complete. He attached a ?demand for payment? statement that threatened to put a lean on our house within 48 hours if we don?t pay him for the work done. We would also be charged the legal fees. Paul left before he completed everything we agreed on. Our contract states that Paul would be paid upon completion of the work he agreed to do and if we are completely satisfied with the job, not when he decided he was done working. So unprofessional, Paul refused to speak to us on the phone insisting that all communication be done in writing. He did not even come to pick up his payment but sent one of his men. His representative wanted us to sign a form stating that we would not sue him?! Yet we never spoke of money or lawsuits. We paid Paul within 48 hours because we did not want the hassle of dealing with a lean on our house. We moved back to an extremely dirty and dusty house with broken items and things like the kitchen sink plumbing not connected. Currently we still have a couple more cabinets that need to be installed, the cover to our hood has not been installed and our floor is coming apart.
