Nice plan, but workers planted things too close together and too close to fence. After the one year warranty no response to emails . Nothing.

Description of Work: Total landscape of lot around our new house. After some weather delays and labor issues early on, it went well. We're very pleased with the result. Best thing about this company - the owner stays in touch and responds promptly to questions/concerns.

Description of Work: I had an initial consultation for them to do my whole yard and they never even gave me a quote. They said they would get it to me in 2 days never heard back. I had taken time out of my day to meet them at the house and go over everything to never hear from them again. Waste of time.

Description of Work: Thom translated my vision to reality for a half acre yard. Neighbors stop by frequently to admire my yard. It takes a bit of prodding to get a response, but well worth it. I'll have him do updates in the future.

It went very well considering it was a remodel, which by the nature of the work will have unexpected issues and delays that occur. I also modified what I wanted and added a few more chores to the job. Tom and the crew were very accommodating to preform the extra work which were in some cases time consuming but did enhance the overall result. The fence took way too long but the construction ran into all sorts of problems that couldn't be anticipated--old irrigation lines and way too many old tree roots--totally not their fault. The water feature is fabulous, really love how it turned out. I couldn't visualize what it would look like and how it would be constructed and was totally pleased with the result. The additional sandstone patios utilizing my old sandstone flagstone turned out really great--look much better than the old patios! All of the plantings have been in for a month now and so far, so good. I think the most important aspect of PDL is the quality of Tom's design work and his commitment to getting the job done right so that the client is pleased. I also cannot rave enough about Jared, his site supervisor, whose attention to detail was amazing. If something didn't go right, it got fixed. And with any project like this something will go wrong, it is a given. It is how it gets fixed that is important and whether one has to fight to get it done right--with PDL there was none of that. I cannot stress that enough.
Description of Work: I needed an extensive yard remodel on an older property. I had removed 1/2 of an old pine forest (way over planted by previous owner) and needed major help with weeds and non desirable plants coming in right and left. I also had taken out a storage building and wanted it replaced with concrete brick raised beds. I also needed a privacy fence. I also wanted to replace a nasty water feature in a courtyard patio area off the kitchen/garage. I also wanted to recycle lots of sandstone flagstones (from a patio that had been removed previously) into other patio areas in the yard. Needless to say, lots of moving parts. I wanted to decrease maintenance in parts of the yard I don't use and enhance the parts that I do use. It was initially difficult to get in touch with Tom, and I later realized that I was calling during their extreme busy season. So, Plan Early for your project--works much better. Tom and I connected in the fall of 2013, he took my ideas of what I wanted and there were a few months of give and take on the design. All along the process, he provided estimates of cost so that I could get an idea of where we were going and what needed to be changed. Tom continually reworked the design and estimates as well as the planting list to get just what I wanted. Work was to begin in mid-April and was delayed by other jobs. I don't think this uncommon with any contractors. Communication on the delay was pretty constant in terms of updates as to when it would start.

Description of Work: The cost of service is what is planned for our large backyard landscaping. We haven't started it yet, but plan on gradual implementation. Tom from Painted Desert is punctual, professional and willing to listen to your concerns/design ideas. He drew up a nice visual plan for us. |I have seen his companies' work around town and it always looks great! Can't wait to get started.

Can't say. They didn't care enough about my business for me to find out.
Description of Work: Nothing. They never returned my phone calls. I had a $35,000 budget and the project was eventually completed by another landscaping company that WAS interested in my business.

Description of Work: The owner was very willing to meet with me to go over landscape ideas. Any plants that did not survive the following summer were replaced at no cost to me. Even when I had planned a trip during the hot summer heat, Painted Desert sent an employee to water newly installed plants at no charge.

We could not be more pleased with Painted Desert Landscaping. We have a new home located on a large lot. Because of the scope of the work and the cost, we wanted to get bids from many landscaping companies. We called and spoke with many but few were willing to provide a written bid or a comprehensive plan. We contacted Tom who owns the company and were immediately impressed with his professionalism and through understanding of the scope of this project. He worked with us to generate a detailed scope of worked and quickly and easily adjusted the plans to accommodate our changes. He produced a very competitive bid and worked with us during the project to keep cost controlled. The project took over three weeks to complete and their crew was extremely professional in every way. The project foreman, Sean, was on site everyday directing his crew and consulted with us daily to make sure everything was as we wanted it. Sean and his crew worked from first daylight to 5 through some difficult weather conditions. The demeanor of Sean and his crew was professional, pleasant and accommodating. We can't say enough good things about the Painted Desert company and recommend them highly.

I wanted an extensive reworking of my landscape. Two of the companies that I contacted didn't even return my calls. One gave me an estimate of $30.K and charged for the visit and estimate. Tom didn't charge for the estimate/visit, and seemed more interested in listening to what I wanted, so I chose his company. His estimate was less than $20.K. Prior to the work, Tom made several visits to the jobsite and worked up extensive plans which he went over with us in great detail. He asked us to pick out colors, type of stone etc locally, with several options and prices known up front. He came up with a final estimate which was the maximum he would charge; if it worked out to be less for some components, he would charge less. We agreed and gave the go-ahead. The workmen got everything ready for a Monday morning start in advance, and were here doing the work exactly when they said they would be. I was around for about 1/2 of the time they were working. They worked hard, no smoking, drinking or excessive breaks but Tom also took good care of his men and didn't let them overdo it in the summer heat. The work took longer than estimated (such things always do) and of course there were problems on the way: a minor flood from a hidden water line break, broken wires, etc. etc. I felt these things were to be expected in a project this large and complex; I also felt that Tom and his men were very responsive to me whenever I pointed out problems (even on weekends) and they also found and took care of several problems without my finding them first, but they did show me what had happened and were transparent about their mistakes even if I didn't notice them. I appreciated that. My husband was upset about the cost of the project and gave me a hassle constantly throughout the time they were here. I felt Tom and his supervisors did an excellent job consulting with us and dealing with my husband's sometimes very difficult manner. I am very picky and opinionated myself, and they made sure to involve me all the time and kept me well informed. The stairway building didn't work out exactly as planned and ended up taking more material and considerably longer than estimated. The resultant stairway was extraordinarily beautiful. Because of this, we asked Tom and folks to make a major change, by adding a flagstone patio where we had planned to build a deck ourselves when they were done. The additional cost estimate was about 1/3 of what I had expected, so we said "yes". They had to schedule that project about a week after everything else was done, which was fine with us. The total charge was above the estimate given above, due to the addition of this patio, which is appropriate. They were very clear about timing issues all the way through, and dealt with the vagaries of weather and injury to workmen appropriately and keeping us informed as they went. The only negative comment I would have is that they only had experience doing ponds full of rocks/gravel (to completely conceal the liner) and I didn't want that, having had a pond before (putting rocks in the bottom eventually leads to buildup of gunk and extra work to clean the pond). They were quite willing to do it my way, but didn't really know how to go about it, and I had to give more guidance than I had expected. However, after a bit of hassle they did it quite well and the ponds are beautiful and functioning very well, and my fish and plants are happy. Overall the project took about 1/3 longer than projected, which is why I slightly downgraded them as to punctuality; they actually were very punctual but the time estimate was just off. There were a few estimated cost underruns which were rebated back to me, and several significant cost overruns (mainly in labor expense) that I was NOT charged for, as previously agreed. There were a couple of minor problems which I was told "We will be back to fix it next week"--AND THEY WERE! (with no prompting from me!) I should also note that they did an excellent job cleaning up after themselves. I am VERY happy with how this project turned out. Last night my husband thanked me for getting it done, told me how happy he was with it, and noted that we already don't miss the money it cost. I don't think the cost was in any way excessive for the amount of work that was done. My yard is already (1 month later) MUCH easier to take care of, more usable and fun, and clearly will be drop-dead gorgeous once all the plants get established. I felt all the way through the project that I was dealing with ethical, honest, reasonable and reliable people who were pleasant and enjoyable to work with and who I trusted being at my house without me there. This applies to everyone that I met in the company, from the owner to the greenest trainee. I heartily recommend Tom and his folks if you need landscaping done.
Description of Work: Partial removal of existing lawns, placement of new landscape rock, curbing, planting spaces, terracing, stairway and flagstone patio. Reworking of existing watering system to apply to new landscape. Built 2 ponds and waterfall, one new tree planted. (Extensive planting is needed as part of the project, but I preferred to do that myself as I am an experienced gardener. They generally do that as well.)
