Knights Construction

We just keep finding more and more problems. We hired Knight construction to build an additional bedroom and bathroom onto our house. We would NEVER recommend using them. The foundation was created improperly and sank and has continued to sink and we have had to pay to get the foundation fixed. We’ve seen multiple cracks in the walls and separation in our wood floors because of the improper foundation. This also caused our French doors to our backyard to not fit properly in the wall. After the doors started to not close properly we had justin come and look at them and we also asked him about the foundation. All he did for the doors was put more screws into it and he said it was all he could do, and he said the foundation was fine when we asked. Fast forward a few years and the French doors have leaked when it rained and caused toxic black mold to grow in the framing above the doors. This black mold has caused me to become extremely sick and I have been seeing doctors for years because of it. my husband recently took the French doors out and the siding off because we realized there was toxic black mold and he needed to remove the black mold immediately. we then found that there wasn’t enough foam in spaces around the doors, there was no outside paper under most of the siding, there was no tar paper around the doors which helps prevent leaks and the plywood used had cut outs in it, so they weren’t full pieces of wood used. so the wholes in the wood created lots of openings for water, weather and hornets to get in. Which also explains why it was always cold in our addition from the start. We are scared to look under the rest of the siding honestly. We also found that he didn’t put caulking on the trim above the doors on the inside so there was a gap letting the mold, weather and hornets from outside straight into our bedroom. Also the header above the door wasn’t properly done according to code. My husband who is not a contractor easily fixed all these things. During construction he also was extremely hard to reach and not responsive to calls also he smoked and littered in our backyard and left nails, debris and cigarette butts everywhere that we had to clean. If we find more things later, which we probably will, i will post an update. The photo is of the black mold after my husband took out the doors.

We did have him put up blinds and add lattice around them and build the steps as a last minute thing. I wish we'd have stayed focused because after it was all done he was like well we used all the wood on the steps. And really our big concern was shelved because we got off track. Would have hope this contractor would have kept us on task.

I was pleased. Once he got started, the demolition was completed the first day and he worked diligently to complete the project in the original timeframe even though we asked him for a couple of "add ons" as we went along.

He took a little while to get me the estimate. It was a few days and I have to call him a couple of times and ask if he was done with it yet. He seem like a nice guy on the phone it's just that I didn't want to pay that amount of money for the small amount of fence that needed repair so I did it myself.

Justin came out and gave a bid for the work which was very competative to the other bids I had recieved. He was right on time with everything, and the reason I decided to have him do the job was becasue he was so accessable via email and phone. anytime I had a question all I had to do was email him and within a few hours I had my response, I really appreciated having that communication . They tore out the old deck, redug the retaining wall, and put the new deck on, It looks great. The neighbors were so impressed with the work and quality, that they decided to hire Knights Construction t redo their deck as well.

From my first contact with Justin Knight, he always responded promptly, whether by phone, with quotes, to getting every task complete. All work done shows qualiity and professionalism. He is quick and efficient. We remodeled two properties at the same time and first came accross some "plumbers" who messed up the beginning of our project. When we were told about Knights Construction, (by Troy Palmer Drywall, also excellent) we felt we were given a great gift! Justin Knight, in turn gave us names of a quality plumber, electrician, painter, etc. With Justin's help, we are close to completion and both properties have been transformed from run down to true show cases.
