Day one...The man that was supposed to put in the carpet didn't show up at 8 AM when he was scheduled. We found out he was stuck at another job so we decided to pull the carpet up ourselves. We had hired a moving company to help us take out the furniture and put it back when the carpet was done so we had a tight schedule. The carpet layer showed up in the afternoon and was upset we had pulled the carpet and gave it to a gentleman doing work on our fence. The sales man at Inside Story was wonderful and unfortunately isn't working there anymore. Together we designed where the seams would be and the carpet layer disregarded the design and left us with obvious seems in the middle of rooms. We found out from neighbors later that the carpet layer was talking on his phone outside cursing in front of children and everyone else about how he was going to loose money because we pulled out the carpet ourselves and he wasn't going to be able to take our old carpet and sell it elsewhere. We were very disappointed, we bought him dinner and a 12 pack of beer at the end of the day in gratitude for his time. He left and we examined the work and we we horrified. There were seems everywhere and gaps between them. On the good note Inside Story came out and had the carpet redone by a different contractor but we had to pick out a different carpet. The original purchase was a carpet with a Scotch Guard protector, 25 year wear protection and life time stain warranty. I have had the carpet cleaned professionally twice a year by the company Inside Story told me to hire and our carpet has stained worse than the less expensive carpet that came with the house. We don't have children and take our shoes off when we come in the house. The purchase was 3 years ago and some stains won't come out. Liquid spills here and there. Liquid sunk right in instead of balling up like the first carpet they installed. I contacted Mike Jacob, the owner of Inside Story and told him about my concerns, provided receipts of carpet cleaning and heard nothing from him for months. I have called three times asking him about the warranty and he told me the carpet company Mohawk still hasn't returned his phone calls. I spoke with him today and his records show the original carpet, not the final carpet we have now. So not only is there no record of what I ended up with, he doesn't know who to contact about our warranty. And if I wanted to replace the stained carpet he doesn't know what he sold us in the first place. I told him "So I guess I'm screwed" he replied "yes". I will not buy fro this company again and I definitely do NOT recommend this company!!
Description of Work: We had new carpet put in throughout the house.

Response from Inside Story Carpet One Floor & Home
I was certainly surprised by Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s response to our conversation yesterday. When she complained about her carpet she neglected to tell me that she had already had her carpet replaced once at no charge to her. Our records are only for the original purchase. With this information I was able to get additional information on this replacement carpet. Like all warranties, this is a manufacturers warranty. Not an Inside Story warranty. I do not have the discretion to approve or deny a claim. I can only file a claim. An Independent Inspector must come out and perform tests on her carpet and then they will make a report to the mill. If the Independent Inspector finds a defect the mill should replace it. If they don't find a defect it won't be replaced. But it is not my decision. I doubt Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s plan to replace her carpet with tile will be approved. The mill will only replace with like kind and quality and only in the room(s) that are damaged. But nothing can happen until the Independent Inspector makes his inspection and report. Had I had this information my conversations with the mill could have been more productive. I don't know if the mill will replace her carpet for free a second time. I am sure they won't replace it with tile. Also, her complaint shows this work was completed yesterday, March 7, 2019. The original work was performed mid 2015. almost four years ago. Mike Jacob Inside Story Carpet One

The project began with carpet selection. There were many choices and options to fit what we had in mind including our budget. We received professional and helpful advice. The carpet installation began 8 business days later. The installer was professional and meticulous. The installation was challenging due to the pattern, but the installer was adept at matching the seams and pattern. The installer kept us apprised of each step and answered many questions which we appreciated. The company called the next day to make sure we were pleased. We are!
Description of Work: Installed carpet throughout the house including living room, dining area, three bedrooms and hall.

This statement summarizes our experience with Carpet One: crude installation and rude customer service. Carpet One’s customer service was fine until the work started, then we discovered the truth. Both the vinyl installer and the carpet installer complained of poor communication from Carpet One. When the carpet installer arrived, we reviewed the work to be done and he stated that he was not informed by Carpet One of the scope of the work and that the work would take two days instead of one day. When we complained that the vinyl installer knocked paint off the wall, broke tiles in the bathroom, and left adhesive on the wall, the door handle, the door glass, and the door jamb, the Carpet One response was “you have to expect some things like that.” When we complained that the vinyl installers permanently bent the leveling feet on the refrigerator when they moved it, the Carpet One salesman accused us of lying about the damage. The vinyl installer did a very poor job of cleaning the floor before installation. We found several lumps under the vinyl after installation, and the installer’s solution upon his return was to pull up the vinyl and remove the biggest chunks and to try to mash the smaller lumps by hammering on them through the vinyl, which did not work. In summary, this was a truly horrible experience, and we suggest simply avoiding this company.
Description of Work: This company removed and reinstalled about 800 square feet of carpet and carpet pad, and removed about 650 square feet of parquet and tile flooring and installed of vinyl in their place.

Response from Inside Story Carpet One Floor & Home
Inside Story Carpet One Floor & Home prides itself on our excellent customer service and knowledgeable and professional installers. We have been a local, family owned and operated company for over 30 years. Prior to the clients purchasing material and starting the work on this particular home, our Sales Staff had multiple conversations with the clients about potential changes that might come up based on their specific situation, which we did end up having. The work did end up taking one additional day than had been originally scheduled. The lumps under the vinyl flooring was a combination of gas bubbles and adhesive that was remedied in the most appropriate method. It was unfortunate that there were a few messes and damage that occurred during the work being performed. Our Sales Staff attempted to find solutions with the clients including repairing the bent refrigerator feet and the carpet installer went above and beyond doing additional work at no charge that was not on the invoice. The purchase price was discounted to the client both up front and after installation was complete. The clients made repeated comments about how happy they were with how the flooring looked installed in their home.

Everything went great. Before the purchase the salesman was very helpful in guiding us through the best flooring for our needs. He actually talked us out of a and quot;newerand quot; high tech product that probably cost more than the product we purchased. ( Sometimes new doesn't always mean the best.). We were on a tight schedule for a construction project and they really stayed within the time restriction. We've had the floor for about 6 months now and I couldn't be happier with our choice.
Description of Work: Carpet replaced in bedrooms and living area. Vinyl flooring installed in office.

What a great company. The person who measured our house found that the measurement made by a competitor was for 20 square feet too much, so Inside Story/Carpet One saved us almost $200. In addition they were responsive to our request for an experienced installer. Their installer was excellent! He did a very nice job, he kept everything very clean, and he explained things that we had questions about.
Description of Work: We previously had carpet installed by an installer with no experience and we had many problems with that carpet. We specified to Inside Story/Carpet One that we would only make this purchase if they had an experienced installer.
