After arranging a meeting, Randy went over the roof with me showing me the damage and explaining my options. He was extremely thorough, professional, co...urteous, knowledgeable and he patiently answered all of our questions. He was never pushy. Randy also offered to be present for the insurance inspection which turned out to be a blessing as he pointed out several items that the insurance appraiser overlooked. At my request, Randy assisted with having some of the other damaged items repaired by providing referrals and also acting as a GC for some of the smaller repairs. After several conversations with Randy and J&K Roofing, I was confident enough to ask them to perform the work while my family was out of town on vacation. Randy kept us informed through the entire process and we returned to a beautiful new roof and a clean nail-free yard. In the months after, I contacted Randy several times to ask questions. On more than one occasion, he happened to be in the area and drove to my house to speak in person. During one of these visits he noticed that the painters (who I’d independently engaged) had done extensive damage to the roof with their ladders. Randy worked with me to get the damage repaired. I would strongly and confidently recommend J&K Roofing to anybody in need of their services. They will be the first and only call I’ll make should I need roofing work in the future.
Description of Work: In the spring of 2010, a hail storm damaged the roof on the house my family had owned for 12 weeks.My insurance appraiser determined that we would need a new roof. I was introduced to Randy James of J&K roofing through a neighbor.

I chose them because they had a lot of experience with installing the kind of roofing we were interested in which was ceramic coated metal shingles. I felt like they were really knowledgeable about the product and how it should be used. This winter we had a huge ice sickle hanging off the corner of the house. We noticed there was water flowing down under the faucet and down the siding of the house. I asked them to come out and take a look. They came out on two occasions to observe and diagnose it and as it turns out the was a piece of flashing that could have been extended out. They fixed it under warranty. I was impressed with it.
Description of Work: They took off 3 layers of old asphalt shingle and installed a Decra metal shake shake roof.

We experienced a hail storm here in Denver in July 2011 which prompted the need for a new roof. We deliberately joined Angie's List for the specific intention of finding a reputable roofer. Our claim was opened in July and we chose and contacted J&K Roofing. When we interviewed this company (we interviewed three (3) companies from Angie's List), we decided they seemed to be the best choice - they seemed the most professional and competent. Our one and only contact person was a nice guy, but turned out to be somewhat lacking in professional skills - my husband thinks of him as an "airhead"; he never seemed to have his paperwork in order, "lost his notebook", and two appointments needed to be rescheduled for personal reasons. From the time of the quote in July, we waited...and waited...and waited... for the roof to be done. Our contact person was responsible for interacting with our insurance company to provide them what they needed after we initially informed our insurance company that we had chosen this roofer. The job was finally started in mid-November and it was totally completed in December the week between Christmas and New Year's. Inspection failed, they had to come back and tear up a good portion of what they had done, and it passed mid-December. But then we waited another month for a single piece of metal to be installed. Also, when we signed with them we stated that our only condition was that an English speaking supervisor always be on the premises. We found out about halfway through that they did not actually do the work themselves, they subcontracted all of it out. This in itself was not a problem, that is fairly standard in the industry. However, the people did NOT speak, or understand, English barely at all. We had to wait for an English speaking person to come on two occasions. This is very important to us, and it was totally unacceptable that there was not one person on the job who spoke English. This is a deal breaker for us in any circumstance, and we were not happy about this - this alone would prevent us from ever using this company again. The main disappointment was the almost total lack of communication from the company. We were constantly calling asking for information regarding scheduling, their interaction with our insurance company, etc. We had to make the call to them ourselves to inform him that the inspection had not passed, the gutters were not done yet, etc. - he expressed surprise and disappointment that "no one had told him". I personally abhor excuses, and I believe that if something is your responsibility, then it is YOUR responsibility and no finger pointing is tolerated. At the end of process, the work had been completed for less than one week and we received a letter stating they had not received payment from us and that the account was being considered for collection! Three days later we received our check from the insurance company, but not before the company representative we had been working with called and said he had been in contact with our insurance company and that they had mailed the check two days prior to him calling so payment was expected as soon as possible - we were not required to pay anything at all until the job was 100% complete, which was stated to us from the beginning in the interview. The insurance company had provided for some work to be done which was not necessary so we substituted new gutters for that work at the suggestion of the company representative. As it turned out, the numbers did not seem to match up because their final invoice was not itemized to our satisfaction - our rep stated that it may have been "not right", but at this point we just wanted to be done with it. We were satisied with the appearance of the end product and it had passed inspection and we were not paying more than the insurance company had paid us so we finalized it and paid them, but not before receiving a copy of the lien waiver in exchange for our check. All in all it was more stressful than it should have been; I'm in the construction business and know what to expect, and I know it should have gone smoother but we're glad it's over. The guy we worked with is a nice person, but I would suggest he hone his organizational skills a liitle more before his next customer experience.

Everything went as planned - new roof installed - 1 issue surfaced when estimator's father became extremely ill in another state but that was quickly resolved by the company. Very professional job - cleaned up after themselves - they did want to move their truck closer to the house which would have been impossible so they had to hand load all the debris.

Called to schedule an estimate. Talked to a person and answered all of their questions about the job. Was told that I will be contacted in a day or two to schedule an estimate. I have not been contacted after waiting one week . I found this surprising because I was looking to have a complete re-roof done, not a repair. I figured a larger job would be appealing. See my side note below for some oddities I noticed with multiple roofing companies when requesting an estimate. Side note: I called multiple roofing companies so I could get a few estimates to compare. Multiple companies took my information over the phone and said I would be called back. Only a small percentage did. What I noticed was when I mentioned that this work would not be covered by my insurance agency the tone of the phone calls changed. I noticed that the companies who?s tone had changed never called me back. From my experience, it seems some companies value working through insurance companies over being paid by the home owner. I was never asked what my payment method might be in these cases (I plan on paying for the work through a home improvement loan and cash).

I just wanted to quickly touch on your comment about the insurance paying for your roof. I assure you that we do all types of work including cash deals, financed or not, and insurance work. We do repairs and treat them the same way we do entire roof contracts. Our office staff is paid the same way whether or not the information turns into a contract or not. J & K Roofing responded to my request for an estimate on the same day and Danny was out to give me an estimate the next day. He spent a lot of time with me discussing everything involved in replacing the roof. Danny even came out multiple times with shingle samples to make sure we got the correct color and style. From all other bids I received, J & K Roofing definitely were the most professional and provided me with the most specific information pertaining to the job. They were able to schedule the job in less than two weeks and actually were able to move the job up a few days when they received the materials earlier that anticipated. The job they did was incredible. They completed the entire roof replacement in one day! It really was a site to watch so many people working in such an efficient manner. They had the old roof removed within a couple hours and the new roof put on by 5:00PM. The roof looks incredible and I couldn't be happier with the results. The city inspector even commented on the great quality of work done. Most impressively, when they were finished, they removed all debris and trash surrounding the house due to the job so well that it was like they were never even there. I walked around the house multiple times and couldn't even find one nail or any evidence of any work being done. To this day, I still haven't found any debris! With the amount of work they did, that was very impressive. I am very happy I chose J & K Roofing and would recommend them to anyone looking to find a very professional, reliable roofing company.

Overall it went well the roof must have been done correctly. They were pretty tidy, we didn't have issues with them. There was a little extra work that was needed to be done, like molding up there that had been rottened. They replaced some of that and did some flashing over. One thing about them is a guy said he would come back and give an estimate on painting the flashing the same colour as the roof so it will stand out but he never came back or returned my calls. That was kind of a minor point. Price wise I think they really gauged us at that time because everbody needed their roofs to be done. I say that because the other estimates that I got my insurance agents said that what they charged me for the roof they should done the roof and the gutters. I was over charged.

If you still wish to have the work completed please contact Tracey Montoya at 303-425-7531 and mention this reply. She will be happy to make the arrangements for you and take care of any other needs you may have. We have thoroughly investigated the matter regarding the pricing. Unfortunately we do not have a copy of the insurance paperwork to determine why your insurance company would feel we were overpriced. However, there was an upgrade to the product that was installed. The original shingle was a 20 year 3tab - the product is a far better product and carries a 30 year warranty. The insurance company does not pay for the increase due to an upgrade. Also there were several sheets of plywood that had to be installed. The insurance company may not have included the plywood as that is something is not easily seen until the roof is torn off. Those two things may have attributed to the cost increase, however please contact Tracey if you would like to discuss it any further. She can go over the line item sheet that you should have received from your insurnace company and figure out where the discrepency is. We encourage anyone who is concerned about pricing to speak with their sales representative or someone in the office to clear up any questions. Thank you for your comments.

They were very punctual. They referred me to a gutter person for me to get an estimate, but that was a serious issue. That company gave me a flier that said they were servicing in the area for more than 30 years, which was a blatant lie. The person who came over J & K Roofing with his assistant spoke sense. He knew what he was talking about, but the problem is that he referred me to a company that was basically involved in fraud. I think he was just trying to help them get their foot in the door.

Jack was very professional and agreed to the price I was willing to pay. He and his crew were punctual in both the bidding process and the work itself. The work appears solid and the clean up was about as good as one can expect. There will always be some trash/nails that the crew is going to miss. The ONLY complaint I have is that the breakfast nook which sticks out the side of the house had a shake shingle roof. There was a miscommunication and his crew replaced it with the composite shingles instead of wood shake shingles. This miscommunication resulted in a little loss of character to the house. Jack did lower the final cost some to make up for it. He offered to replace it but I would have had to pay for some of the work required. All in all, the professionalism and quick/solid work would result in an A grade if not for the miscommunication. So long as you are VERY clear with the work expectations, this sort of problem shouldn't happen for you.

I compared this rooding company to 4 other companies and they were not the lowest in pricee but were certainly worth what I paid them. They supplied a large crew and finished the entire job in 2 days.
Description of Work: They were very professional and took care of many details I wanted covered in replacing my roof. Their representative Nathan Dunkley was very attentive and followed bach many time making sure I was happy with the job and any small items that occured were covered quickly.

They gave a free estimate. They finished everything in one day. They were very neat and picked up all the nails, trash, and debris. Everything was very good. Dennis VonThun gave us the estimate and I was very comfortable with him around. He was very prompt, polite, clean and responsive to my calls. It was a very pleasant experience. Watch out if J&K Roofing gives you an estimate that promises to repair ?at least? some particular number of shingles. They will repair something near the ?least? number and claim to have met the terms of the contract. In my case they ended their work at the least number (stated on their invoice) and refused to go any further. I had them do several separate tasks on my roof on 3/30/2010 . They completed most of the work OK, but not the shingle repair -a critical part of the job. A few weeks after J&K completed work, I had a certified home inspector check the roof, as part of a full-out inspection, and he found about forty shingles that were broken/cracked and should have been repaired. I have photos of typical cases. There had been no hail, and no one else had been on the roof since J&K did the work. When I called the person I?d dealt with at J&K, and asked for further/complete shingle repairs, he refused to even consider completing the job for the original agreed price; he didn?t even come by to take a look. His position was that he would do more for an additional $300. I believe I was deceived into believing that J&K would do the complete/workmanlike job even if it might take somewhat more than the ?at least? 70 shingles. It seemed to me that they would give me an estimate at the outset that would cover the full extent and cost of the job.
Description of Work: I contracted with J&K Roofing for the installation of 6 turtle-vents, installation of 30 ft of drip-edge, silvercoating of all valleys, and the repair of shingles (replacement of at least 70 tapersawn wood shingles). They did not complete the shingle repair for the price agreed.

It's very disappointing when a business says they will return calls within a certain time and do not fulfill their obligation. Interestingly, I've called four other companies and none of them had this same problem. Three answered their phones directly, and the other company returned the call within a day.
Description of Work: Left a message with them a week ago about getting an estimate. J&K's message said it would take 2-3 days for them to get back to the customer. Seven days have gone by, and I have not heard from them. Makes me think if they can't accomplish this simple task, they aren't a company I want to replace my roof.

On one property the roof which was replaced is leaking and I've been told several times they would fix the problem but they haven't. The second house was contracted to J&K last june of 2009 and hasen't been started as of 11/18/09 in spite of repeated promises from J&K to do so.

Very disappointing experience. I would not use this company. Sloppiness from the start will only show itself in the finished product.
Description of Work: I called 3 weeks ago to get a bid for a complete reroof on a 6,000 square foot home. When they took the call it would be "2 -3 weeks for and adjuster to contact us". I said no problem and waited for the 3 weeks. Today the call came from Brian, one of their estimators, and he informed me that they are not doing any estimates. If you want to have your roof done by them, they can't do it. Don't waste your time on the list just to get the answer I did. They must only do insurance work or repairs. Very disappointed, especially since they came recommended by a co worker of mine for a house they did of his in Cherry Hills. It was new construction, so that must be the reason they were able to do the job, reroofing (unless insurance) just not their game.

We are sorry to hear that we were unable to meet your roofing needs at this time. Its important to note that the majority of the consumer complaints that are posted on Angie's list regarding J & K Roofing are posted by consumers who did not have any services provided by our company. During a storm situation we do not give "estimates". In an effort to serve so many people who are in need of a new roof before winter comes, we are only inspecting roofs for hail damage. Most insurance companies are paying the "industry standard pricing" for our region. In 99% of insurance claims that we have processed through our office the insurance has paid the full amount of the invoice and the homeowner is only responsible for the deductible. There is no reason if you have an insurance claim to have the roofer give you and estimate on top of the insurance adjustment. In most cases the insurance company will only release a partial payment so that you can get the work started. When the roofer is done with they job they will bill your insurance company for the balance. If your insurance company has allowed for to much or the insurance allowance is for more than the roofer is charging, then the insurance company will make that adjustment at that time so there isn't any overpayment to the homeowner or to the roofing company. We have completed over 1800 residential roofs this year and this was only possible by working closely with the insurance company's to make sure that we are providing the best roof possible for the homeowner at a price that keeps the value in your home. On the other hand, the consumer ratings from people who have received services from us, have been excellent. We are so set back by the recent hail storms that we are booked up through the first of the year. Our phone lines are literally jammed with inspection requests daily. Understandably, our sales representatives are overwhelmed by the sudden volume as well. I can only hope that in the future you consider J & K for any roofing you may need done.

They were on a list from our insurance company and we contacted them to look at our Pine Grove property roof that had some major wind damage. The guy came out, talked to us about the different roofing options, and suggested that we use the energy efficient product so that we could get a tax credit. We told him we had a second property with hail damage in What Ridge and he was to come look at that as well. The estimator just did not contact us after that. We made it very clear that we had to get this started soon. After we called the office they estimator called us back and we met with him again in Wheat Ridge to look at the porch roof damage. He suggested that we might want to put a regular roof over the porch instead of what we had. He stated he would have someone else who knew more come out and look at it and give us an estimate for Wheat Ridge. There were to be two estimates for the Wheat Ridge property covering our two options. That took more time and instead of giving us estimates for both options on the Wheat Ridge property he only gave an estimate for one repair option. We never received an estimate for the Pine Grove property. It was simply a contract and the total price was quoted less than the insurance company's estimate. He then added on $700 extra for the energy efficient roofing material. After that the quote was higher than the insurance company's. In addition, he had also not contacted the insurance company about a gutter they had missed in their estimate. I could not compare the two documents. I faxed the insurance company's estimate plus the Pine Grove contract to Rhonda at J & K Roofing, Inc. so she could look over the documents. By this time it was already starting to snow and we needed the Pine Grove house taken care of. It was leaking. I called three days in a row trying to get answers from Rhonda. I finally got through today and I was transferred to someone else. She told me that they were not going to complete the project. She stated they would not deduct the deductible or the $700 for the energy efficient materials like we had discussed. The estimator had put on the contract that they would deduct the deductible. I was then transferred to Nick, the manager, and he told me he would not do the work. He said "I have 2,000 jobs to do, I can't get that done." I told him we had been counting on them to repair this before the snow came and he completely let us down. He told us to call another smaller company.
Description of Work: They were to do roof repairs at two properties for me that had sustained hail and wind damage.

Unfortunately there are some requests that we are just unable to fill. In this case there were far to many demands from the homeowner that would prohibit us from completing this project to their satisfaction. The Pine Grove home is quite a distance from where we are located and we did not have a crew available to install the roof "within the next few days" as the homeowner requested. Equally as frustrating for us is when someone wants to be pushed to the front of the line, wants a material upgrade at no additional cost, and doesn't want any out-of-pocket expense although our costs are increased due to the fact that we have to send a crew out of town to do the work. We work very hard to provide a high level of customer satisfaction in every case but when the costs are too high and there is some indication that we may not be able to meet the homeowners expectations, we feel it is better for the homeowner to look for a contractor better fit to their needs.

Called to get estimate for hail damaged roof. Interested in J & K due to ratings on Angie's. Was told it might be two weeks or more due to current high level of activity. No problem, I understand. Approx. 1 week later, got a voice mail message on a Friday asking me to call to set up an appointment. On Monday I called the number that was left - the "answering machine" confirmed I called the right number, I left a message that I was still interested. No return call by Wednesday, so I tried again, left another message plus my work number. No reply by next week, so approx. Tuesday I tried again. No response by end of that week (2 weeks after first call from J &K), so went with another company.
Description of Work: No services performed. Dissatisfied with trying to get a quote, as described below.

Our phone lines are literally jammed with inspection requests daily. Understandably, our sales representatives are overwhelmed by the sudden volume as well.
