Description of Work: Contacted Decktec in early May for an estimate to build our deck and set up a meeting time, they never showed. Strike One. I called them to re-schedule and Steve showed up, took measurements and said he will have a bid to us within 2 weeks. We had two other companies do bids for the project and we received their bids within two weeks. We didn't receive the bid or a call from Decktec after three weeks. Strike Two. I called them and they said we will have the bid to us within the next week and we didn't receive it. I even mentioned that if they aren't interested in doing the project it isn't a big deal but they insisted they will have the bid to us within the next week. After six weeks still haven't received it. Final Strike.

+ -1 moreAs you can see from the description above, you couldn't ask for a better experience. The bidding process was thoughtful, timely and cooperative. The project management was flawless -- all necessary crew and all materials here on time. The carpenters were careful, expert and proud of their work. The owner of the company even did research on his own to help us find dog grass for the dog pen we built, and then gave us comp tickets to the Home and Garden show so we could see the fake grass for ourselves. We feel that everyone involved did a little extra, did more than expected, did a great job. And it is beautiful redwood all around.
Description of Work: We have two decks, on upper and lower levels. Some work had been done on part of the upper deck on the south and east sides 20 years ago. Much of the north side and lower decks were older than that. The upper deck section on the north side of our house was decrepit, dangerous. The newer deck section on the south side was sagging and the stairs to the lower level were getting rotten. DeckTek examined all parts of the deck, told us what work needed to be done to make it safe and secure and attractive, and gave us a detailed bid including new construction and reconstruction. They then worked with us to bring the price down without sacrificing quality. For instance, we tore down the entire north deck, but only replaced the part of it which was a logical extension of the east side and did not replace a part we never really used anyway. That saved $6500. The work crew was terrific. Two master carpenters were here full time, and other helpers were brought in where needed. They worked hard and fast, even when it meant shoveling snow so they could work on the deck. They poured several new footings to give us more posts for solidity and safety and to level the north deck. They entirely rebuilt the stairs and added a concrete footing for the entry platform, tore out the downstairs deck and built a new one, tore out the north deck and built the new part, put on new railings all around and new decking in a couple of sections. They also helped us figure out a covered dog pen for the lower deck and built that with attractive floor to ceiling metal grates to keep the cougars out. They were responsive to some extras we asked for, helped us figure out the best way to do them, and billed them reasonably. When they were almost done we walked the whole job to make a punch list, so we could get everything perfect before they left. We could not find a single problem to put on the punch list. Not one.

+ -1 moreThe previous owners of our home had not maintained the deck and it was in bad shape with warped boards, uneven stairs and worst of all, leaks into the basement when it rained or snowed. When we collected estimates, it was clear that we needed to replace the entire deck (except for the posts and large header support. Originally, DeckTec's estimate was outside our budget. We asked them to take a look at the project and see if they could find alternative materials that would still provide us with an attractive and quality deck. They were extremely helpful and willing to work with us to meet all our goals; we ended up with a design using composite for the tread, metal rods for the balusters, and wood for the remaining portion of the rail. They showed up on time and kept communication open throughout the process. The crew that took down the deck worked diligently and cleaned up at the end of each day. The same crew were meticulous and steady in their work to erect the new deck. We were very impressed with their attention to detail. There was one very windy day when a they lost control of a board and the outer pane of one of our basement windows was broken as a result. It was purely accidental. They didn't alert us to it right away (we had family in town and they didn't want to interrupt our visit). By the time we noticed the broken pane, they had cleaned up the glass and had arranged for a glass repair company to come for an estimate. The deck is beautiful and the repaired window is better than new. We couldn't be happier with the end result and we wouldn't hesitate to hire DeckTec again! In fact, they advised us that the wood-staining should wait until next spring for best results, so they will be back to stain the wood portion of the rail. We will almost definitely retain their services to maintain the deck as it ages.
Description of Work: The entire deck of our home (except for posts and header) was removed, flashing and waterproof seal was added with the new ledgerboard, and an entirely new deck, stairs and railing was installed.

+ -1 moreCouldn?t ask for a better experience! We discussed what we were looking for and Decktec?s designer drew a diagram of what the deck would look like. We had to give them a deposit for this service. We agreed on the design and they set a date to start work. Work started on the date agreed, and other than for interruptions caused by weather, they were here every day until the job was finished. Every afternoon at the end of their work day they cleaned up the site. It was delightful to have a contractor who continued on the job every day until it was completed. Just the opposite experience like some neighbors have had where the contractor shows up, does a little work, then disappears for weeks. Not these guys! When they start a job they finish it, and they finish it when promised. The workmanship in the deck is outstanding, especially the half-octagon roof. Visitors call it a ?work of art? and we agree. If we had to do it over again we absolutely would get DeckTec to do the work. Their workmanship is outstanding, and their work ethic can?t be beat. They will never be the low price contractor, but you get what you pay for-- and these folks are worth it. They also remodeled a bath for us and did a great job there too!

+ 0 moreAfter we agreed to have DeckTec do the work, they prepared a detailed project plan and schedule. They started by putting protective plastic on the carpet leading to the work area, and also installed a plastic barrier to contain dust from the demolition and dry wall work. This kind of job is never neat, but they did a great job of containing as well as that could be done. Work started on the date agreed, and they were here every day until the job was finished, with one exception that was due to a delay we caused in getting some of the fixtures. Every afternoon at the end of their work day they cleaned up the site. They followed their plan and finished work within 3 days of their planned date. The delay was caused by us, not DeckTec. I have to comment on their tile work – it’s beautiful! Mike takes pride in his tile work and it really shows. If we had to do it over again we absolutely would get DeckTec to do the work. Their workmanship is outstanding, and their work ethic can’t be beat. They will never be the low price contractor, but you get what you pay for – and these folks are worth it. They also built a deck and patio for us and did a great job there too!
Description of Work: Demolition of old bath room including removing 2 walls and old damaged floor and subfloor. They then built 2 new walls, replaced the subfloor, installed new tile floor, installed a custom tile shower, and installed the rest of the bathroom fixtures ( toilet, vanity, lights, fan, towel bars, and so on). Our contract with DeckTec was for labor only – we supplied the tile, bath fixtures, and so on. Decktec’s contractor supplied the shower door. We paid according to an agreed upon schedule, with progress payments dependent upon completion of a stage of the project.

They were punctual in arriving on site and stayed with the job until it was completed. Their quality of workmanship and attention to detail were excellent. They were very knowledgeable and easy to work with. I was glad that I selected them and would not hesitate to use them again given the need.
Description of Work: DeckTec designed and installed a Trex deck approximately 12' x 14' in size. The project included removing an existing concrete stoop; installing the supporting subframe; a built-in bench seat; low-voltage lighting and a staircase.

They also gave free design suggestions and showed us a ton of pictures of other decks they had built and then let us decide what we wanted without any pressure. After we selected them to build our deck from amongst 3 bidders, they promply began work and completed the deck in a week. The deck turned out beautifal and we frequently get comments on the deck. I'm guessing that they may not be able to do every job as quickly since our deck was built off season. We were so happy with their service, quaility, and professionalism, we have hired them two other times. Once to repair a 6 foot privacy fence that was blown down in a windstorm and on another occassion to replace the steps to our front porch. Their perforance on these projects was equally impressive.
