They did what they said they were going to do. They were solid as far as a company. The people that set up the job were very responsive and they were good to work with. There were no surprises and everything worked the way it was supposed to.

+ -1 moreThe two DeckTec employees arrived on time (or earlier) and worked extremely diligently for the entire job, which took about three days to complete. They even had a light set-up so they could continue working after sunset. The power wash, sanding and staining all went well, and the guys even re-set all screws in the deck by hand prior to staining. The deck now looks almost new, with a beautiful natural transparent redwood stain.
Description of Work: We hired DeckTec to clean and restore our deck, which was built by DeckTec in 1996. The process included power washing, sanding and staining the deck with Superdeck transparent stain, as well as a "Maintenance Clean" next spring.

+ -1 moreFrom start to finish this company was as professional as they come. Steve came out to discuss our needs. Not only did he understand what we wanted, but he came up with several design ideas that made the deck look and function much better than what we originally had in mind. No one else we talked to provided the type of design recommendations that DeckTec did. We got detailed, professional drawings of their recommendations and they were able to show us lots of photos of completed projects to illustrate what our options were. The project was started on time, completed on time, and cost exactly what they said it would. When our old deck was taken down, they did it all in one day and removed all of the debris the same day. DeckTec did not leave an unsightly garbage bin in our driveway like I have seen other contractors do. Each day, the workers put away all materials and tools and cleaned up the work area. DeckTec handled the permits and dealing with the city inspectors. We are very pleased with the results and everyone is amazed at how much better the back of our house looks. Even the building inspector commented that the deck was very well built. I highly recommend Decktec.

Steve and Keith are dedicated to a design that fits the space and lifestyle, the the quality of the construction, materials, accuracy, and drive towards perfection is refreshing. The detail work, down to the 4' cement casings and counter sinking EVERY screw, is how everyone should work! We are VERY pleased with the work! We had looked at 8 different firms, took the list to 3, and the dedication, experience, proof of work, and enthusiasm made it a slam dunk. During the fall home show in Denver, we told many contractors and service providers that we were working with DeckTec -- everyone knows them and there were universal accolades. All deserved.
Description of Work: Designed and built a two story deck to go from our living room down to the ground wrapping around a new swim spa.

Description of Work: For our large 10 yr old deck, they added two posts under a very long span that had begun to sag and replaced all the doubled and tripled two-by-10 (and 2x8 and so forth) undergirders because those had originally been made of not-treated lumber and were beginning to show dry rot so would eventually become unsound.

+ 0 moreMike came out and gave me a quote and discussed the services. His wasn't the cheapest quote, but I had more confidence about the quality of their work from talking with him and hearing the details of the steps involved. It also wasn't the fastest--it would take 3 days for all the steps to be completed (allowing drying time in between). But, I had the feeling that Mike really knew what needed to be done for proper care of the deck, so I went with DeckTec. When I got the quote via e-mail, I had to discuss a couple of things with Mike again, but he answered the questions and figured out a price that worked for my budget for the job. Mike also sent me info on stain colors and their website has photos to look at to help choose the color you might like the best. Mike gave me a guess on the week for the work and I was contacted later by Adam via phone and e-mail about the scheduling and the stain colors. The work started on the day they promised and ended on time, too. I could really see improvements on the deck at the end of each day. My deck looks great now and I think it will weather the Winter much better, too! I plan to hire DeckTec again for regular deck maintenance (no more gray and moldy looking wood again).
Description of Work: DeckTec cleaned and refinished my deck. Now it looks like one of the pretty pictures on their website! :)

+ -1 moreThey were very prompt in getting back to me to schedule a visit to sit down and go through what we work we wanted to have done. The design meeting last around 1 1/2 hours and we went through the entire project. I was told they would get back to me by the end of the following week with a price / quote (13 July). By the 18th of July I still had not heard anything from Decktec so I emailed them. They promptly responded telling me they would have the quote by the end of the week. By August 9th I still have not heard anything, so I sent another email asking them to provide me a quote. They replied back and told me I would need to schedule another meeting with them to go over options. All I really wanted was a quote and I had already spent 1 1/2 hours with them going over everything, so I am still baffled why another meeting was required. We exchanged several more emails, and basically it came down to they have to have a second meeting to provide a quote. I really wish they would not have led me to believe I was going to get a quote in July and told me during our 1 1/2 hour meeting that they require another sit down. Had they told me that upfront I might have been able to accommodate their request. So now we will have to look at other options.

The finished product (our deck) looked like the pictures that we had been shown prior to the start of the work. there was some painting necessary and they did that as well. overall, we are pleased with what they did.

Description of Work: I called Decktec after reading the reviews here on Angie's List. It took approximately a week to get an appointment with an estimator set up through multiple phone calls to the company. Once we had our appointment we discussed our plan and even drew out our deck plan for them with measurements to help them understand what we wanted. The estimator then did their own measurements and called the next day to get more measurement info. After that another company employee showed up at our house in the middle of the day with no warning, no advance call, no permission to walk around on our upstairs backyard deck to take MORE measurements. This person scared the living heck out of my wife who was terrified to confront a stranger showing up unannounced in our backyard in the middle of the day!!! My wife was scared that he was there to break into our house since she had no warning and he was walking around on our upstairs deck. When we confronted the company on this they simply stated he was there to get more measurements and acted like it was common for them to do that. So after they finally got their measurements, we received a bid that had measurements that were way off on size. The company went through 3 iterations of measurements, they were told how much square footage our deck was twice and still underestimated the square footage!!! The best part is that the estimator asked what our budget was and we were very specific as to what our budget was with materials. The proposal was right in line with our budget but without $11K of materials, which made their proposal $11K higher than every other contractor that came out and proposed. So they took our budget number that they misunderstood, put it on a proposal that under estimated the amount of decking we needed, and were going to take advantage of us by significantly overcharging us on the cost to build our deck because they thought they saw an opportunity to overcharge us based on their misunderstanding of our budget. I explained this over the phone calmly with the company when discussing the bid and was hung up on.

Per his committment at the time of estimate, Vince provided us a written proposal within a week after his visit to our home. The proposal was very thorough and detailed, but unfortunately exceeded the budget we had set aside for the project. We chose another contractor which we had worked with before, and offered us a more favorable price. But, we would not hesitate to contact DeckTec again for outdoor projects.
