In addition to above, one company I called asked me the make of the fireplace unit and told me his experience with this make was that it is a unit that has had it's share of problems and that perhaps the best I was going to do would be to replace the whole system to the cost of $4,000 to $6,000!. He was still going to charge $95 for a service call weather he fixed it or not (just like a few others I called). Anyway, I feel fortunate I asked Tri-Town to come out and look at it. My recommendation is: get a more than fair deal and go with Tri-Town!
Description of Work: After talking with several gas fireplace outfits I settled on going with Tri-Town because a very professional and helpful office staff member who took my call (Chris), and after listening to me, told me that a service call would cost $125 but would only charge this if the technician (Jeremiah) actually fixed something. This was the best offer I got so far and nothing to loose. Jeremiah and his assistant checked out the fireplace and after only a few minutes into it found that the pilot light knob was still in pilot position and so when the wall switch was turned on the log set did not light. He repositioned the knob and the gas log set lit up and now all is well and working! The best part: NO CHARGE! I felt so dumb that I didn't figure out the problem. Before they came, I was looking at power to the switch, the switch itself, or maybe a thermocoupler problem. The pilot light was working so I assumed it must be something complicated and probably expensive. How wrong I was! It was a simple fix. Anyway, how could I not use or recommend these guys? They will definately have my business in the future!

When we moved into a home in Frederick this past summer, we found a free-standing gas fireplace disconnected and stored in garage. In December, we decided to hook it up to the exiting gas tap in the living room, hoping that it would add a nice touch to family's Christmas gathering. As it seemed imprudent for an inexperienced homeowner to hook up a gas appliance of uncertain pedigree, we sought out professional assistance through listings on Angies List. When we called Tri-Town Plumbing, they were quite professional and polite on the phone and informed us that the cost for them to come out to inspect and hook up the stove, checking it for Carbon Monoxide dangers would be $100, plus parts, if needed. The price seemed a bit high for such a quick (and local) job, but we figured that this must be the going rate. A very pleasant gentleman arrived 45 minutes after the appointed time, hooked up the fireplace and showed my girlfriend how to start it. When he was asked about a carbon monoxide test for the device, he asked whether we had a CO detector. When she said 'yes', he told her that testing wouldn't be needed: she should simply be sure to leave a window cracked open whenever the fireplace was in use. From the time that he arrived until the time that he left, no more than 15 minutes had gone by. This evening, for the first time since the hook-up, she re-lit the fireplace. Immediately the smoke detectors started to sound. She had neglected to open a window. So she turned it off, vacated the house, and aired it out. When we tried for a second time, (with window open), it just wouldn't start - though we smelled gas coming out. So, we turned it off, threw up our hands, and decided that we should give-up on the fireplace, for now.

Our gas fireplace hasn't been working since last winter and we really, really missed it!! We did not want to go another winter without it. Jeremy took a look at it and puzzled out the problem. He was able to find the part in a couple of days (at less than half the price I could find on my own) and installed it right away. I was thrilled! I went to a fireplace store to look around and was told that replacing the unit would cost several thousand dollars so to fix this instead of replacing it was wonderful! And, it looks and works even better than it ever did before. When he was done with this, he went downstairs and fixed our leaky toilet in a matter of minutes. I would highly recommend Jeremy and Tri Town Plumbing for your plumbing and heating needs.
Description of Work: Trouble-shooted our non-working gas fireplace, figured out what the faulty part was, ordered it and replaced it
