Zephyr Clean Air

Was steered to this company through a GROUPON for air duct cleaning. However, after purchasing company restricted the coverage to less airducts than house contained and less intakes than furnace has. When inquiring into price to do the complete job, the company wanted to charge 4X the Groupon price for four additional vents. I obviously declined the extra work. Company set up appointment, but later changed it on short notice. Then on the day of the appointment, service person was late impacting my wife's ability to pick the children up from school. :( However, during the appt, service person continue to try and tack on hundreds of dollars of extra charges. (Ideclined all) It became very clear to me that this company supported the bait and switch mentality by drawing you in with thier cheap Groupon only to charge extra upon contact. I would have walked away earlier, but since I had already purchased the GROUPON, I chose get that part of the service regardless.

Formerly known as "Portland Green Home Services" and also known as "Wasatch Front Cleaning"<--credit card processed under this name. Services located in Utah, Colorado, here in Oregon and who knows where else. Classic bait and switch. $69 coupon turns into high pressured sales of $1k-$2k of duct cleaning, chemicals being sprayed, and work that you won't be able to verify. Technician shows up in a personal vehicle with a magnet on the side and the equivalent of a shop vac, not a full truck vac system as they should have for that much money. The work was less than 2 hours for one man for a nearly 3,000 SF house. Impossible. Do your homework, Google this company (the old name) and see the numerous complaints and news story about their service on Portland's News Channel 8, KGW. They lost their Better Business Bureau accreditation due to the number of complaints and they are not NADCA accredited either. Have now changed their name to Zephyr Clean Air, and that website is not even functional. Should be warning enough. Don't make the idiotic mistake I did. I thought I would be breathing cleaner air and I'm left with a vent that's not cleaned, and a house that smells of formaldehyde and customer service that frankly doesn't care. This company leaves you feeling slimy and used. Avoid at all costs.

I found the Zephyr ad in several of the local coupon magazines and while their price was great I was a little nervous about using them. They do not appear to have a website and I could not locate any review of their company or services online. I questioned the customer service agent about it when calling to make an appointment and she said that was because they are new to this area but have been operating in other areas for several years. Ultimately the price quoted for the duct cleaning was low enough that I figured it was worth a try. I was able to get an appointment with less than a week's notice. The company gives a time window for arrival on the day of your appointment and the techs call you to advise when they are on the way. They did arrive within the scheduled window, but it was very much towards the end of it which meant they were at our house until the early evening. We only scheduled the duct cleaning, but on initial inspection the techs recommended the blower motor cleaning as well which doubled our price. They did show me the inside of the machine and I could see how dirty it was so did not feel that they were recommending unneeded services and went ahead with it. The two technicians did a very good job. They pulled out every vent in the house and showed us the insides of a few both before and after cleaning. One look was enough to make me glad I was having it done. They were filthy and possibly hadn't ever been cleaned before in our 40 year old house. They do not bring their main equipment into the house so are able to work with just hoses that extend to all rooms. They were conscientious about cleaning up behind themselves and made sure to put all vent covers back on. They did warn us that material may blow out of the vents for the first few days, so we placed damp rags over the vents when first running the A/C again and that seemed to catch a lot of it. It has only been a week, but I do believe that we are seeing a difference. I have had less headaches and congestion and the dust level in the house seems to be reduced.
