 + -1 moreCraig is a master carpenter and an artist! He is 100% meticulous with his work. He redid our bathroom vanity countertops. We decided to replace the vinyl with vinyl. Craig removed the old vinyl and put the new vinyl down. It's perfect! He had to remove the sink so I asked him if he could check why the sink wasn't draining properly. Well it's draining great now! He built a custom frame around our mirrors. Changed the look entirely! He also replaced our old light fixtures over both vanities. He had to repair the texture on the walls. I had this exact work done before by a different contractor who did a horrible job and overcharged me. Craig's work is perfect and priced fairly. He also replaced some LVP planks on our floors and you can't even tell they were replaced. Craig is a jack of all trades and a master of ALL! Give him a call. You won't be sorry. He will be my go-to guy for all future repairs!

I will try someone else probably next week.He had the most positive reviews so I called him instead of the others. No big deal, I'll find another. I probably have about 85% of my basement done. Need a little framing, a door set and a handrail refurbish in my entrance way.

He was not intimidated by the resulting scope of the required repair work which included roof structural framing, siding, flashing and re-roofing. Craig kept me informed along the way and took care to avoid causing any additional damage along the way.  + 8 moreFollowing his work to expose the damage and the causes, Craig outlined what he would have to do and gave a first cost estimate – which turned out to be pretty close to the final cost. Craig showed himself to be very skilled in working with the different materials involved. He works fast but follows his plan. He is a very capable handyman and kept the project moving.
Description of Work: It started with just a small drip above a window in a first floor sun room. Craig’s careful demolition soon revealed that we had several leaks in a sky light and stove pipe and that these leaks had caused several ceiling beams and a joist above the window to rot.

 + 0 moreWe are really pleased with the work--the deck does not wobble, feels firm, stable and straight. Craig seemed to be very thorough and concerned for the safety of the deck and the quality of his work. He also did an excellent job shoring up a couple of thresholds and repairing a damaged doorframe. He completed the jobs within the estimated timeframe (despite a later start a couple days); and at what we thought was a fair price for materials and labor. We would definitely hire him again.
Description of Work: We recently moved into a home built in 1994. There is a large (20' X 10') deck off the back of the house supported by 3 4X4s at the end. We could feel that the deck swayed slightly when there were 4 adults or more on the deck and wanted a carpenter to inspect it and see what could be done to reinforce/repair it for stability. I found Solid Rock Custom Carpentry on Angie's List and called him to take a look at the deck and three other small carpentry jobs we needed done, unrelated to the deck. Craig Olsen came and evaluated what could be done to stabilize the structure, took notes, and discussed the project. He emailed a detailed estimate within a day or two and began work the next week. First Craig straightened the deck which was leaning slightly ...one of the supporting 4X4s was visibly bowed. He used some sort of leveling/sighting device to get it right. He stabilized the floor of the deck by correctly re-positioning the horizontal supports underneath and added short 4X4 "angles" to the top of each of the 3 vertical 4X4s. Where the original deck had been extended, there were 3 boards together for support. The joint had shifted, pulled apart, and the center board had rotted. Craig propped the deck and rebuilt the joint, replacing the center board and waterproofing it with what looked like tar. After all of the repairs to the deck, he sanded and sealed the railings and deck surface.

 + -1 moreI was not pleased with the final product - the finishing work was sloppy. He asked if he could "freehand" the edging detail. I said sure and regret it. The spacing of the panels were too wide. Three years later, I had the wainscoting removed and redone for a price far less. I know now that I was so overcharged for such a small project. The project only covered 9 linear feet of wall space and I was charged $4500. With another contractor, I had the bathroom redone PLUS the kitchen/dining space for $3500! In his defense, I should have been present through the whole process. I should have spoken up about my disappointment from the beginning.

In the middle of our project he had a worker leave and kind of left him in a bind, but he covered and got the work done. We are having him look into another project at our house. Our neighbors can't believe the difference. One of them is a realtor and she was very impressed.
Description of Work: We had our Kitchen/Dining room opened up to an open space. And our drop ceiling in the kitchen raised to match the rest of the area. Walls were removed.

We were impressed not only by his work, but also by his attitude and consistently pleasant manner. It was a pleasure working with him.

 + -1 moreGreat! Finished early and under estimate. They came in, on short notice, to help me out in the middle of a job. My original contractor was unable to complete the ceiling texturing due to a broken machine. I called Solid Rock on Friday at about 12:30, we met at 1:30. They said they could get it done by noon on Tuesday and that the cost would be $800 (about 1,000 sf of ceilings, including two stairwells). They were finished on Monday and only charged me $700, because the job went easier than expected.
