All-in-all, I was very satisfied with the results of their work, the cost, as well as their friendliness and easy going attitudes. Also, I didn't think twice about leaving them in the house while I was gone...usually you can tell early on if a contractor and his crew can be trusted not to rifle the house, and I felt comfortable leaving them to do their work, rather than hang around hovering to make sure they don't take shortcuts or your valuables.
Description of Work: Decided it was time for a major interior facelift so I put out some feelers and perused Angie's List as well. Big Forty was recommended by another contractor I had done business with so I had Clint, an easy-going, personable guy, come out to the house for an estimate. Most of the interior had not been painted in 15+ yrs, so it was looking pretty shabby, needless to say. Initially I thought I could get by just painting the main rooms (living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom upstairs, family room, den and bathroom downstairs) and let the 2 bedrooms and laundry/utility room slide. However, after showing Clint around and looking more closely at the rooms I thought I could let "slide", it became obvious that it would be kinda stupid to paint all but a few rooms in the house to save a few bucks. So I asked Clint to include the entire interior in the estimate, as well as new carpet in the master bedroom, family room, and stairway between floors. The estimate included primer in most rooms (I used to smoke in the house, resulting in nasty stains on the walls, primarily where the smoke would collect at the top of the walls and ceilings, but I quit 3 yrs ago :), two coats of paint on all walls, ceilings, baseboards and most interior doors, and the estimate came in at $7500, which I thought was more than reasonable for the amount of painting included in the estimate. I'm disabled with hip and lower back problems, so his crew gave me a hand moving the heavy stuff from the walls and in the rooms that were carpeted, which I much appreciated. A bit later into the project, I decided to have all of the existing window screens replaced, at least a dozen, for which he charged $300, which I also thought was reasonable. What impressed me the most about Clint and his crew was their willingness to do relatively minor handyman work, such as caulking where needed in the bathrooms, installing a new doorbell, installing a few new window shades, to name a few, all for no extra charge. Many contractors would itemize all of the handyman stuff and then nick you later for more cash, but Clint didn't embellish the estimate at all, and I covered the cost of any materials needed at the time.
