They are scammer. They do not provide detail invoice. They charged $933 for two hour work. $600 for replacing faucet (we already bough faucet from Lowes for $200 so labor 3 times more than faucet itself), and the rest is for replacing some hoses for leaking sinks. When I talked to the manager, he promised 15% refund but not received a penny. Find somewhere else or do it yourself and save money. We had been using Allen Service for years. I do not know what changed but they are simply screwing people now.

Claimed it would be $800 and tried selling new hot water tank for $2600. Called someone else and it was a $10 part. Crazy pricing and not addressing the problem with existing tank. Also claimed our tank was not compliant. Checked and they were giving bad info.

Very poorly. They said I needed a new furnance or I could just get it fixed. Was told it would cost a lot. Gave me a quote had second opinion. Was told that my furnance did not even have these parts. Was fixed by another place. Lasted for a couple of more years. I just had it my furnance/air conditioner replaced by another company. I do not trust them to be honest. I called Allen's and told them why I would not be using them anymore.

We had an part go bad only a couple years after they installed one of their water heaters. Not a big deal - it wasn't their fault. But then we called them to repair it... it all went downhill. They said their was going to be a surcharge to get the part quickly from the manufacturer, per the manufacturer's policy, and extra charges. I called the manufacturer who told me there wasn't anything like like this in their policy. They also were going to charge us some major fees that didn't seem reasonable. In the end it turned out that they had the part all along. Beyond that, the tech was argumentative and disrespectful to my wife. In the end, we cancelled the service call and called Independent Plumbing Solutions [*** Link removed ***] and had much better service - what a relief!

I will be reporting this to Angie's List. This is not someone we served in any way shape or form. We have no record of anyone in the Colorado front range area that we had any contact with in any way. Not even so much as a phone call from some someone with his first or last name.

The technician spent most of his time on the phone corresponding with his supervisor in regards to what needed to be done and the cost. When my husband was home the cost was $243. After my husband left for work and the tech spoke to his boss, the cost went up to $843 "just to get it running". The tech then told me my other option would be to replace my entire unit because "it would be obsolete in 2-3 years and it would be $400-500 just to replace the coolant". So his recommendation was to spend $4000+ on a new updated A/C unit. I had him do the basic to get the A/C running. I wrote a check for $843. I had been on the phone off and on with my husband and he was outraged. But it had been over 90 degrees for a week and we were desperate. When my husband got home he looked at all the tech had done and looked up part numbers on the web. The parts added up to approx $60. He then called and spoke with the supervisor and said that the "quick start kit" they installed was not necessary. They ended up reimbursing us $261 for that, so total cost $582 to service our A/C. We have used them for over 30 years but never again! They also quoted $4300 to repair 3-4 boiler valves which about 10 months prior was estimated at $700-900. The tech told us that "The job would tie up a tech for an entire day so the cost was to cover overhead for that". We felt like we were being played.
Description of Work: We had a service call in to check our air conditioner and repair. He replaced 3 parts and hosed off our outdoor unit. We also had a routine maintenance scheduled for our boiler and we were still waiting for a quote from 6 months earlier in the cost to repair 3-4 valves. He did not service the boiler because he said he would wait to see what the replacement would be for the valves. We have a service agreement contract that includes a complementary annual boiler service.

It went very well, HVAC Tech Paul Garrison disconnected and re-connected the AC unit and it went very smooth. He made recommendations to add the hard start capacitor to get a few more years out of the compressor unit, it is 11 years old. I asked Paul to listen to a hammering noise coming from the water pipes and Paul recommended the water pressure tank could eliminate or reduce the noise, which it did. Overall Paul was very knowledgeable, pleasant and very easy to work with.

I am completely done with this company. The idea that a customer would have to beg to get them to come out when they are over charging for a service is ridiculous. In April this year I had them quote me for a new high efficiency furnace and air conditioner. The quote was $3000 more than the three other quotes I received, and the brand of furnace was an off brand. When I tried to negotiate with them on this issue they were rude and dismissive, as if I really didn't have the right to question their prices. This company is predatory, disingenuous and tries to trap a customer with their own problems. Any company that will keep you on hold for a half hour and then tell you that your call is important to them is a liar. When someone makes an appointment for service, and is home waiting for the service only to be told that I had to stand on my head to get them to come out here even when I am paying them is not one to ever do business with again. I suspect that after their service call the charge to ignite a pilot light in an appliance that they sold me and installed will cost more that the entire replacement of the appliance with a 33% overcharge for their trouble. Never again! Do not use this company!
Description of Work: I had a hot water heater installed by Allen about 5 years ago. It has worked flawlessly for the entire time. The pilot light went out in the unit this week, and I have not been able to light it so I called for service. It was a $39 charge just to have them come out and look at the unit. I will remind everyone that this unit was sold to be by them, and is still under warranty. I was to have a tech arrive between noon and three today. I work nights and I told them that because I might fall asleep waiting for them. Well I did not answer their call in advance, and they will not send a tech unless you do that. Now the price for service just went up to $95 for the service call. and they could not reschedule until 4 tomorrow.

Comments on the service call to analyze the problem - The work done to analyze the problem was adequate and done as expected - The price for this work was within standard expected rates - The quality of work done for the service call portion was good Comments on the proposed solution to fix the problem - The technician did not perform any load calculations on my home to determine what I actually needed - The proposal I was given started off with a price to replace my entire heating and cooling system. I never asked for this nor did I need such. The only reason I can explain why they would spend the time to write all of this work into a proposal is beyond my understanding other than to help soften the blow for the high price they were quoting for the actual work that was needed to be done to repair the A/C. - I received quotes from 5 different contractors to have the A/C system repaired and/or replaced. Allen Service was the highest of all 5 contractors. - Their proposal for replacement was not detailed. It did not give me any specifics with regard to model numbers that would be used for the equipment.
Description of Work: The central A/C stopped working on my house. I contacted Allen Service for a service call to analyze what was wrong with the system. They arrived within the allotted time slot, found the problem, and I paid for the service call. The problem ended up being a bad compressor and associated electrical starting system. The technician then provided me a quote for repair and/or replacement of the system.

We have been service plan members for several years. Our previous few visits from them have been unpleasant, and felt pushy about having to do major work immediately. The most recent sales call was the final straw. The guy was very rude and led me to believe we needed a new water heater and furnace immediately. He gave us estimates, but I wanted to make some calls to get other estimates. So, he had me sign a form that we're living in an "unsafe" home, essentially saying that they're not liable should we all die. It was purely a scare tactic. Then, as he left, he could tell I was annoyed. He said "Sorry if I was a bit of an a**...". Completely unprofessional! The next two companies to come said that, while the furnace is old, we are not in any danger. We will be replacing both the furnace and water heater, but we will not be using Allen Service. Their high pressure scare tactics are appalling! Also, of the 3 companies to give us estimates, they were by far the most expensive. (even taking into account the brand, efficiency, etc of the equipment to be installed)
Description of Work: They came to service our furnace and air conditioner, and also replaced a humidifier filter.

See above for story. The service techs were all polite but they all had different ideas of what was wrong including the service manager who said there was steam in the line causing all the problems which none of the others mentioned. The service manager was rude and not interested in having a conversation, more interested in lecturing. All I needed was someone to show me how to put water in the line which the first guy did and that fixed the problem but then suddenly the boiler failed twice and cost me $1,300. I will not use them again.
Description of Work: 2-12-13 Initial sevice call to look at my boiler that heats my house to figure out what is causing a noise which I assumed was air in the line. This noise had been going on for months. They added water and then couldn't find a problem and charged the inspection $49 charge. 2-14-13 The boiler shutdown and we called them and a different person came out and replaced a Aquastart box for $500. They also said the sound was probably caused by all the valves being on the wrong side of the boiler and they could change that for $5,000. 2-15-13 I called to speak to the manager to explain why the boiler broke 2 days after their service guy was here. 2-22-13 The boiler went out again. A third person came out and said we would need a new boiler for $7,000. He changed an autovent and gas valve thermocouple and charged $725 and said we should be OK for a couple years since we fixed a lot of parts. 2-25-13 I called and wanted to speak to the manager and again they never called me back. 2-26-13 I called and said if I didn't get a call back I was going to go on-line and respond 2-27-13 The service manager finally called me back. I wanted him to explain to me why after over a year of living in this house and several months of hearing the pipe sound that as soon as their service tech comes out the boiler fails twice after having no problems before that. He said that there was steam in the line and that is what was causing the sound and that was burning up the parts which is why the problems came one after another. I tried to tell him that the sound had been going on for months and wasn't it a big cooincidence that it was working fine before but only had problems after his service tech showed up and he kept cutting me off saying it wasn't a cooincidence at all. He then said that if I had done what the service techs told me to do I would have been fine. The first tech gave me no recommendations on the boiler but wanted to look at the rest of my plumbing which had nothing to do with the boiler. The second wanted to change my valves for $5,000 which are working fine right this minute. The third wanted me to buy a new boiler for $7,000 which might have fixed my problem but doesn't answer my questions. Basically his customer service was blame the customer.

I dislike the fact that he came in and looked, by the time he left I felt like I had to re-plumb and redo everything in the whole house. It was a high pressure sale thing which was awful. I felt that he overcharged. I never called him again. I was so fed up by the person who came. He came when he said he was going to come.

The thermal expansion tank on my home's water system failed. I called Allen Services to have them replace it. The tech arrived a little ahead of schedule. Before entering my residence, he tested the house's water pressure at the outside hose connection. I did not observe that, and I know now that I should have. The tech reported that my water pressure was 90 psi which was too high for the appliances in the home. He said the water system's pressure regulating valve must have failed. Then he came in and verified that the thermal expansion tank had failed. He stated that the original expansion tank was too small for the size of the water heater and that he would have to replace it with a larger model. The tech prepared an estimate for the repairs. The thermal expansion tank removal and replacement would cost $253. I had previously looked on-line and I knew the same manufacturer's tank could be bought for just under $100. With labor to remove and replace it, plus disposal of the old one, the quoted $253 seemed a little high, but I needed to get it done. Had I turned the tech away at that point, Allen Services would have charged me $50 just for showing up anyway. Next came the replacement of the water pressure regulator. I did not expect to need to have the pressure regulator replaced, so I did not research the cost ahead of time. I accepted the word of the tech that my old regulator had failed. Maybe it had, but I will never know for sure either way. The proposed removal and replacement cost for the regulator was $584. That seemed completely outrageous and I told the tech that. He insisted that it was a fair price, and added that I didn't have to have the repair done at that time. He said I could do it another time if I wanted, but that the pressure in the house was too high for my appliances and could cause other problems like leaky toilets. Rather than having to schedule someone at a later date to replace the regulator, I agreed to let him replace it. That decision was based on the tech's statement that the old regulator had failed. The work was completed and the tech is gone. However, I have two questions: 1. Did my old water pressure regulator actually fail? I don't know. I took the tech at this word. My appliances performed correctly and my toilets did not leak. My lawn sprinklers seemed to spray water the same distance they always had. Since the new regulator was installed, the pressure in the home actually seems higher, and the lawn sprinklers are now sending water beyond the turf area. So, I don't know if I needed the replacement regulator at all. 2. Even if I did need the new regulator, was the replacement cost reasonable? I checked on-line and found that the same manufacturer and model of valve could be bought for about $65.00. Since the replacement was done in conjunction with the expansion tank, the water system was already shut down and drained. The labor should have been no more than about 30 minutes. So why was the cost $584? It doesn't seem reasonable. My conclusion is that I was over-charged by $300 to $400.
Description of Work: 1. Remove and replace thermal expansion tank on a residential water system. The old one had failed. This was the original requested repair. 2. Remove and replace the water pressure regulating valve on a residential system based on their tech's report that the pressure was too high. This was not an expected repair.
