I approached Dave a few years ago to work with our HOA and start the process of replacing the 20 year old roofs of our 20 unit complex in Georgetown. The roof situation in our complex had been suffering for a while due to a poor initial installation. In addition, there were many complex roof situations to be dealt with. Dave has been very proactive at coming up with solutions to address the complex issues we've had. And given the extent (and cost) of the project, Dave has been very flexible in working with us to address the roof replacement as we have the funding available. His crew has always been very professional and punctual while on the work site, always ensuring they keep things clean and "tucked away" while work is going on. And you'd never know they were there (other than the new roof!) after they depart. It's been a pleasure working with Dave and Troost and I look forward to an ongoing relationship as we continue to work through the process of replacing all our roofs.

I have a very challenging A-Frame in the mountains that was in dire needs of a new roof. After contacting several roofing companies that never got back with me, I called Dave with Troost Roofing. Not only did Dave come right out to do an estimate, it was quite reasonable. Due to the years of neglect and incorrect roofing, Dave's guys found that the decking needed to be replaced as well. He sent pictures and gave me the best pricing he could considering the extensive damage. His guys were quick and thorough and had the whole job done within a week. THANKS DAVE!!! Janet B

I asked if they could come out and look at potential causes of my leaking roof and they were out there that afternoon. They got up on the roof and looked around and correctly identified the potential area of leak which was a fairly new chimney cap. I was skeptical since it was new. Dave suggested I spray water in various areas to find the leak and he was correct, the installers had missed a spot with the caulking and there was a hole where water was getting in from the cap. I sealed it myself and no more leak. I very much appreciate the fact that he sent his guy to look things over at no charge and didn't pressure me to have him try to find the actual leak and fix it. That shows integrity.

Dave gave me an estimate without visiting the property then raised the price the day his employee showed up to do the work. Dave never went to the property for this project. He sent one of his employees. The employee failed to recognize or investigate the live venting from the hot water heaters and roofed over them. This caused a very dangerous situation for my tenants (four little boys live there) as the CO2 was trapped in the attic. The condensation built up causing leaks in both units and an ice dam that destroyed the soffit. When I called Dave to have him fix it, he denied responsibility. He said it was the from the way the roof was originally installed even thought there were no other leaks anywhere. Then he tried to coerce me into hiring him to put a whole new roof on (roof was 8 years old) and said I needed new siding and new interior drywall because my house was infested with mold. This was a lie. I had the entire house checked and the only mold was where it was leaking from his patch. I hired another contractor to fix the roof. They wrote a full report detailing the problems, called the county themselves to report him and said that no professional roofer would ever have made that mistake. When I called Dave again to tell him what the other roofers found, he said it was my fault because I told him that the furnace that had originally had pipes running through the chimney had been removed. This was true, but he said I should have told him about the hot water heater pipes. I had NO way of knowing this. I hire people because I do not know about construction and I count on professionals to know what to investigate and how to do their jobs properly. All other roofers I called said that any roofer would know to check all pipes before roofing them over. Now I am trying to get Dave to provide me with his insurance information and he is refusing. Which is actually against the law. I have filed a complaint with the better business bureau, spoken with lawyers, and reported him to multiple agencies. He is still trying to get out of paying. Thousands of dollars worth of damage was done.

Response from TROOST ROOFING
[Member Name Removed] contacted us about a leak in August of 2015. Upon inspection, we found a deteriorated chimney to be the culprit. [Member Name Removed] agreed with us that it would be less expensive to remove the chimney rather than re-flash, re-side and install a custom metal chimney cap. [Member Name Removed] indicated the chimney was no longer in use since she had removed the wood burning stoves. With [Member Name Removed]'s knowledge and blessing, we proceeded to remove the chimney, and install plywood, underlayment and shingles, as was outlined in the contract. No mention was made of leaving any pipes in place, nor hiring a HVAC contractor to extend pipes up from the lower levels of the home. Troost did precisely what was outlined in the contract. [Member Name Removed] knew this was the plan of action and signed the proposal, indicating she wanted us to do the work, as specified. Unbeknownst to [Member Name Removed] and us, a HVAC (heating, venting and cooling) contractor had joined a new boiler exhaust flue to the abandoned wood stove flue 3 stories below inside the framing of the home. Not only is this unusual (we've never seen it before or since), but it was against code to join class A vents (wood burning stove pipes) with class B vents (boiler exhaust pipes). Unfortunately making an insurance claim was not an option. Neither hers, ours nor the HVAC's insurance would involve themselves as the statute of limitations had expired. Later, when [Member Name Removed] called to report drywall staining, I met her at the home to try to discover the root of the problem. After the piping mishap was uncovered, as a gesture of goodwill, we offered to reimburse [Member Name Removed] for half of the work that Troost performed. We offered this money as an effort to find middle ground between efforts we exerted and monies she paid. This gesture was not meant as acknowledgement of wrong doing, but rather as a gift to help her defray costs caused by the HVAC contractor's unorthodox construction methods. We express our condolences for her troubles and hope she will accept our offer of assistance.

Troost came out for 10 days to replace my A-frame roof. They ripped off two layers of old shingles, expertly replaced rotten underlying boards, re-angled a part of the roof to improve drainage, put ice and water shield down over the entire low-angle roof addition, and re-shingled the entire house and shed. This was a complicated job; and in the middle of the replacement, we got over a foot of snow! Troost also took care of the permitting process. The roofers were polite and friendly. The entire process couldn't have gone any better! Everything was well coordinated and Dave was in constant communication with both the team and me. By the end of the project, I knew I had a roof that would last a very long time. I got three bids; Troost was by far the best bidding process. Dave spent over an hour talking me through the process, asking questions, taking measurements - all in 8 inches of snow! Though Troost's bid was a little higher, their level of service was outstanding and far above compare. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Removed two layers of old roofing, replaced underlying boards that were rotten, rebuilt part of the roof for better drainage and prevention of future problems, added ice and water shield on low angle portion of roof, laid dimensional shingles on entire roof and shed. Prompt estimate with cost of both standard and impact resistant architectural asphalt shingles and roof venting system (which had not been installed on roof previously).Troost removed existing wood shake shingles on entire house and attached wood-storage shed and hauled all away, installed water and ice shield and reflashed the chimney, walls and pipes, installed metal drip edges along house eaves, installed vented roof system and did the entire job in less than two days. Fair and reasonable negotiation of installation date and price and job was completed on time and at date and time agreed. Very professional job and I would use the services of Troost roofing again and recommend to a friend.

The owner was very responsive, and he almost always answered when I called, and promptly returned my calls all other times. It was his responsiveness that led me to choose Troost to perform the work. The other roofers I called simply never responded. While the work was being performed, the owner was often on site to supervise, and both he and his employees were always on-time, professional, and friendly. They also did an excellent job cleaning up around my house after they were done. Now that the roof replacement is complete, the roof itself looks good and solid.

Troost provided superb and prompt gutter work. They also let us know that a small area of siding should be swapped out before they did their work,. They tolerated that the siding work wasn't done on the first schedule due to truck problems on the widing guy's side, and rescheduled for just two days later. Their presence was unobtrusive, and the managed to set up and move ladders in a heavily gardened yard with minimal damage. These guys totally rock.

It went quite well. Troost does a highly professional job, with an eye always out for customer service and satisfaction. In addition to this new work, the installer noticed several tile that apparently had broken from being stepped on, and replaced those tile without being asked and without charge. The ice guards worked exactly as intended through the winter and spring thaw---the ice melted in the spring and none fell to the ground in blocks. I recommend Troost Roofing for roofing services without reservation.

Member was an involved homeowner who made decisions based on doing the project correctly so it would not have to be done again. Member's house is at a very high elevation, which means ice damming would wreak havoc with the home when it was in the grips of winter. Member opted to upgrade both the shingle underlayment and the shingle itself. We also replaced all the pipe jacks, wall flashings, drip edge and vents. His home is now bullet-proof to the weather extremes that living at elevation might pose. It was a pleasure working with you Member.

Dave Evenson of Troost Roofing was prompt on responding to my request for a bid. He was honest on the what was needed for a major replacement. The ceiling construction was not typical tongue-and-groove, so Dave walked me through some measurements to be sure we wouldn't have additional costs. The work started on schedule, but the workers ran into a hornet problem. Dave worked through Sunday trying to find an exterminator so the shingle delivery could be completed on schedule. Once the hornets were under control, the work was completed quickly. The roof looks great and the area around the house was well cleaned when the crew was finished.

The customer's project presented many unusual hurdles. The first problem concerned the irregularity of his roof surface. After many scenarios were suggested, it turned out that an uneven layer of foam insulation had been spray applied under plywood and layers of shingles. The foam was very difficult to remove, as it broke into thousands of tiny fragments. As a further complication, two swarms of nomadic yellow jackets had recently nested in his solarium and a near-by retaining wall. The roof removal process caused sufficient vibration and noise to cause both nests to empty and all the hornets to adopt and defensive strategy on protecting their new homes. Our workers were chased from the roof and away from the house during daylight temperatures. After a pest control was summoned, and they were able to work their magic, we once again were able to resume our work. The customer was very patient and helpful during the various construction discoveries and pest infestation. He now has a level roof surface, additional insulation, and new shingles. His house has a lot of curb appeal, and fits well within the mountain setting of Evergreen. We really appreciate the opportunity to be part of his exterior remodel process.

I cannot say enough good things about the outstanding work of the Troust roofing crew. Guided by the owner/manger of the business, Dave Evenson and his on-site crew foreman, the roofing crew worked cooperatively with the stucco subcontractor over the course of several weeks, completing the roof tile work before heavy snows came in November. Troust did a beautiful, professional job on installation of the concrete tile. It looks fabulous, and has performed exactly as planned (no leaks or other issues) over the past year since installation. We are especially pleased with the meticulous work done by the crew on a tricky six-sided "turret" section of roof, that required individually cutting each one of several hundred concrete tiles at odd-angles, to create a tight, attractive configuration and appearance. We feel that the tile roof and stucco together have added substantially to the market value of our home. In addition, the crew were at all times friendly and respectful toward us as customer, and kept us informed about their progress and schedule for completion. Dave Evensen was quite diligent in responding to messages and emails, maintaining great communication, and keeping every promise he made regarding schedule and the work. Troost Roofing did a great job for us. I highly recommend Troost Roofing for any roofing job you may have, and would be happy to provide a reference for Troost to anyone.
Description of Work: Troost Roofing replaced a worn-out cedar shingle roof with a modern concrete flat tile roof system on our home in Conifer, CO. The tile is a chocolate brown, textured cedar-type finish, that compliments the new stucco exterior walls beautifully. Troost tore all of the old roof off in two days, repaired some unexpected rotted roof deck (plywood) areas, and had the roof sections covered again the same day of the tear-off with a waterproof membrane (called 'snow and ice shield'). This kept the home waterproof while other work was being done before the new tile went on. The crew loaded all the trash from the tear-off into a rolloff trash bin, and policed the area around the house to pick up stray debris, keeping the work-site neat and tidy. Completion of the roofing work was complicated by the fact that another subcontractor stucco crew was putting a stucco finish on the outside (vertical) walls of the house. This stucco work had to be substantially completed with flashing in place before the multi-level roof work with tile could be installed. So the two crews had to coordinate their work and stay out of each other's way. The Troust roofing work was forced to wait several weeks for completion of the stucco by the other subcontractor, before they could return and finish the roofing job. A further complication was that the timing of the work in late October put a real premium on getting the job done fast, in order to beat the fall snow fall at our high altitude of 8500 feet. In addition, we contracted for a gutter system and leaf-guard through Troost Roofing. Further, Troost custom fabricated a large metal chimney cap to fit on top of the existing brick chimney, solving a problem in containing sparks and burning materials from the chimney. We were so pleased with all of the work that we returned to Troost Roofing in October 2012 for installation of an ice-guard system using copper cleats, to avoid falling ice during Spring thaw.

Member did an excellent job of coordinating all the phases of the remodel, giving all involved constant updates. The project ran very smoothly, start to finish. Members were very pleasant and positive during all phases, and seemed to take a real joy in watching their home transform into the showpiece it has become. They take great pride in their home, and we take great pride in being asked to contribute. Enjoy your new home!
