At first I thought it was great. It was very late in the year when they replaced the roof. It was into late fall and temperatures had already fallen. This should have been my first clue, because you need a certain amount of warm days to get the shingles to seal properly. Not too long after the completion there was a major wind storm and shingles were blown everywhere. I called Tom to let him know and he tells me that is not the company's responsibility and to file a claim with my insurance company. Having no experience with this, I followed what he said. I ended up calling the insurance company and starting a claim (huge mistake!!). Tom called back a day or so later saying that they would come out and fix whatever was broken. At this point it was too late and I already had a claim filed, and even though I called and told the insurance company I wanted to cancel it, it is still there and counts against me. Tom should NEVER have told me to call the insurance. It was a BRAND NEW ROOF and had a full warranty!! I should have known better, but so should he. They were incredibly slow and took over a month to come out and do the repairs on the roof and throughout the winter shingles were blowing off. I got to listen to shingles thumping on the roof all winter and picking them up from the yard. A roofing company should know when it's too late in the season to put on a new roof! The next year we had a hail storm and I had someone from Lazaro come out and check the roof and was told it needed to be replaced. The hail was nowhere near what the warranty covered but they were still insisting it should be replaced and that insurance should cover it, not the company. I got a second opinion from a reputable company recommended by my insurance company and they said the roof was fine, but Lazaro's had cut some corners in certain areas and I should have them come make it right. So now I had TWO insurance claims against me for no reason, both times it should have been up to the company's warranty to make it right!! And I was not alone. 4-5 neighbors used Lazaro's (it was a bad hail year and we all looked to each other to see who everyone was using) and every single person was getting a new roof a year later and not one of them were happy with the work performed or the customer service. Be very careful with this company! DO NOT let them tell you their poor work should be covered by insurance companies!
Description of Work: Replaced a hail damaged wood shake roof with a regular shingle roof with a hail damage warranty up to 1inch hail (I think that's what it was, it was a little while ago).

Response from Lazaro's Roofing
We at Lazaro’s roofing have held an “A” rating on Angie’s list for several years now. We do our very best to satisfy every customer in any way possible and unfortunately, on occasion, there is the one or two customers where no matter what you do, cannot be pleased. [Members Name] roof was truly a late season install and due to some product availability issues was later than we typically like. The wind storm that occurred on December 31, 2012 contained gusts up to and over 100 mph. It was so severe it toppled a large cottonwood tree in the customer’s yard. Unfortunately due to winter weather it took our organization longer than normal to make the repairs to the roof. What wasn’t mentioned was we provided the customer with a Class 4 Impact resistant shingle at NO charge. We removed an additional layer of the old shingles at NO charge. We repaired the wind damage to the customers’ roof at NO charge. We left behind additional materials for the customer to make repairs to their barn at NO charge. We provided the customer with a gift certificate for dinner in order to try and make up for any inconvenience. The second hail incident which occurred approximately 1 year later did do damage to the clients roof, and other roofs in the area. The hail was severe enough to dent the metal cladding around the customer’s windows. The insurance adjuster refused to file a claim as they often do and we recommended the customer appeal and ask for a second review, which they did NOT do. Unfortunately the wind, hail, fire and floods here along the Front Range have caused all of our insurance rates to increase, even those of us who haven’t had claims. As they say, “A rising tide lifts all ships”. We are sorry for this customer’s dissatisfaction and this is not typical of our organization.

Fair pricing bid compared with other roofing companies, all were significant investments Company's previous experience with flat roofs and Tom Petersen's approach were very persuasive early on. Owner of the company, Lazaro, was personally on site much of the time. Clearly a professional team with a commitment to getting the job done right. Work ethic impressive. Clean up and attention to details to very highest standards. During the September 2013 record setting Colorado rains, one area lightly leaked. Immediate response, repaired the first visit. No further problems. Ding on pricing due to last minute, after contract signed, addition of $2000 for and quot;fire proofingand quot; per Fort Collins city code. Legitimate charge per my research (recent Front Range wildfires apparently warranted the change), however, still irksome.

We love Lazaro's Roofing!! After sustaining hail damage to our roof and gutters in August 2013, we began the task of searching for a contractor. I wanted to be sure we got the best value for the money from a reputable company. After many hours of research, I decided to call Tom Peterson with Lazaro's Roofing. Within just a few minutes of my initial message, I received a call back to schedule the estimate. I thoroughly expected to be put on a waiting list due to the amount of hail damage in our area, NOT the case!! Tom and Lazaro were both out at my house the next day to look at our roof. They discussed multiple options and were extremely knowledgeable. After making our decision, we were able to schedule the installation within a few days of signing the contact. Overall, my biggest concern was the safety of my dogs in the yard due to the roofing debris. Lazaro's crew did a FANTASTIC job of cleaning my yard. I have already and will continue to recommend Lazaro's Roofing. GREAT COMPANY!!

They were quick, knowledgable, helpful and professional and responded immediately when we had a tiny leak fixed it immediately and we didn't need to call again. James was extremely helpful in explaining the process they were very sensitive to my need to keep the landscape free of debris and to collect all the nails on the ground. they used a magnet on a stick around the perimeter of the house and did not damage any landscape

We were given a quote that was in line with what we expected. We were given a date based on the weather, as March tends to be a bit rainy and chilly. We had the workers in when they said they'd be here. All went very well, with only one problem, which is why I rated them with just a B. We have a skylight in the living area. After the workers left, my husband saw where there was now a crack in the skylight. (The roofing guys told us that the crack was already there when they'd started. This was not true.) The quote man Tom came back and looked at the damage. It took about a week or so to get the glass in. The guys did replace the glass, but they left some of the flashing off and didn't do the best job in the world to finish the job. Tom was great and followed up with us on this. He saw that the finish job wasn't done too well and had the guys come back again. Tom was very helpful and made sure that they finished this up. Well - the skylight cracked again within a week of their repair. Apparently there was a nail or something that wasn't inserted correctly and the crack came back. We decided to call a glass company to come in and do the job. We used a company we are familiar with and then just paid for it ourselves. Roofers do roofing, glass companies do glass. That replacement was done in late March or April and we've not had any problems with the skylight since. I would still recommend Lazaro's as they did provide an excellent service for us with the roof.

My overall experience with Lazaro's was very positive. I checked with the BBB and all was in order there. My roof suffered enough damage during the New Year's Eve day wind storm on December 31, 2011, to be completely covered by my insurance. Lazaro's estimator/sales rep was able to come out 2 days after I called for an estimate. I was impressed with his approach and products, and his price happened to be the lowest of three I requested. When I called the rep back to arrange for the roof work, he said it would be about a week or so before a crew could get to my house (they had seven other jobs in front of mine). Three days later, early on a Sunday morning, he called to say a crew could start that day due to a cancellation. Fifteen minutes later the crew arrived (about 8:30 am). They were all done by about 5 that afternoon. I have a little roofing experience and was pleased with the workmanship. The crew did a good job policing up the roof area and all around the house. The whole area was pretty messy with debris, including old nails on the ground, while they were working. I will recommend Lazaro's to my friends.
Description of Work: My house needed a complete new roof. The old comp asphalt shingles were stripped off and new 30# felt was laid followed by a good quality Owens Corning product rated to withstand 130 mph winds and last 30 years. They also replaced all of the vents, as well as th seals around the vent pipes. Drip edges were also installed, which is a fairly recent code requirement. The crew cleaned up after themselves well.

Lazaro Hernandez came to my home the same day that I requested a quote. He was very helpful in getting me steered to the product that best suited my needs. I selected the Owens-Corning HP WeatherGuard shingle. It has the best hail resistant rating of any asphalt product. My insurance company gave me a $300 per year discount when I submitted the proof of purchase for this product. I was disappointed to learn that Lazaro would be going hunting when the project was scheduled. His brother-in-law would be the foreman. The crew showed up bright and early Thursday morning and in only a couple of hours, the roof was stripped and ready for the roofers felt. Since my job had me some 50 miles away, I asked a friend to just hang out and watch the proceedings. He called mid morning and said the truck with the shingles had arrived, and nowhere on the packaging did he see anything about and quot;HP WeatherGuardand quot;. I believe he said they were and quot;Durationand quot;. I checked it out on the O-C web site, and while this is a quality shingle, it is not what we had agreed to. And when it was time to apply the roofers felt, the crew was only going put down a single tier of ice shield until my friend halted them and insisted that the agreement specified 2 tiers. They had to pause the project while they ran for more ice shield. The correct shingles were not at the local wearhouse, so the project would have to sit a day. However, the crew was committed to another job on Friday, so it would not resume 'til Saturday. Right is better than fast. I was okay to wait. However, the warm weather required to seal shingles is rare in November, and this unusual warm spell would not last forever. Saturday a great crew showed up as did the shingles and the job went unbelievably fast. And they did a nice job. There were a couple instances where I stopped them to correct substandard workmanship, but they were pleasant and quick to accommodate. The gutters and downspouts were subbedout, and this crew was equally quick and also did good work. I did contact both Lazaro and the gutter contractor to make adjustments after the job. Both parties were there in one day and the adjustments were done neatly. At all times, these people were pleasant to work with. In the end, I was entirely satisfied with the job. I repainted the house trim to match the new gutters. Home Depot did not have the specification for the gutter color by its name, so they did a computer match. It looked a bit different when I first applied it, but within 2 days it dried to a perfect match.
Description of Work: Had the asphalt shingles removed and replaced. Installed with two tiers of ice shield. Gutters and downspouts also replaced - sub'd out.

A man came to my house soon after I called them. He scheduled a time very quickly to come over and give me an estimate. He came right on schedule, was extremely friendly. Even stood on my porch and chatted with my husband and I about the area and his family. He gave me an estimate that was right in line with what we expected. He gave me a time frame in which someone would show up to perform the repair that I needed on my roof. When the day came for someone to show up, no one showed. I called the man that gave me the estimate. He said the worker had gotten hung up at another job and might be late. He said he'd come some time before the end of the day. The worker never showed and no one called to reschedule. I called my contact back and he said he'd get someone out soon. Then we got some back weather. As soon as the weather cleared, I called back but got no response. No one ever called me back or showed up to fix my roof. I felt like they perceived it as not very important to them. So I won't use them again.
Description of Work: No services were performed. I called in the fall the have some shingles repaired before the winter came.

My sister, first cousin, and I own a family property in Estes Park with a house built in 1916 by our grandfather. When it came time for a new roof, we got three bids. Lazaro’s Roofing was the middle bid, but discussions with them during the bidding process and their clear and very complete proposal showed a commitment to doing a superior job, so we selected them and were not disappointed. We accepted the bid late on a Friday afternoon; Lazaro, the owner, brought a crew up on Sunday afternoon to look over the job and left a large truck for the detritus removal; work began on Monday morning; and by the end of Monday the old roof was off, new ½” OSB sheathing, and new felt were installed (the old roof had no sheathing). The new shingles were delivered on Tuesday morning and the job was completed by late Tuesday afternoon. The house has a large native stone chimney and they put in extra effort and materials to make sure it would be leak-free, including adding a completely new chimney cricket to divert the water way from the up-slope side of the chimney. There were three glitches during the work: 1) many nails protruded all the way through the roof into the living space (no insulation or false-ceiling in the loft area of the house); 2) they removed the plastic sheets covering the interior furnishings at the end of the first day but the work during the second day produced a moderate amount of debris in the living space; and 3) there was one broken shingle on the back side of the roof. When these problems were raised, they were correctly addressed on either the same or next day and with an attitude of “thanks very much for bringing that to our attention”, not “what do you mean, there’s a problem.” We declared the job done to our complete satisfaction on Wednesday afternoon, five days after we accepted the proposal. Throughout the bidding and work process they responded very quickly to messages by phone or email and really encouraged frequent and open communication. They have provided a seven-year, transferable warranty on “any roof deficiencies in the work”. We will definitely include them in the bidding process for future work and there would have to be very strong reasons not to select them for the job.

Contacted company for estimate and an estimator showed up the next day. I felt the estimate was a bit high but the company came highly recommended by a neighbor. I signed the estimate and a crew showed up three days later. I had the old roof removed and new roof installed in two days. They did an excellent job of removing and installing the new roof as well as cleaning up. The work crew forgot to install some optional water shield that I had requested and I was given immediate credit for the oversight. Very pleasant to deal with.
Description of Work: Removed old asphalt shingles and replaced with new.
