DON KING LANDSCAPING

They build a small 12 x12 patio 1.5 years ago and it is now sinking. I have emailed and called for the past 8 weeks and still no response to come and look at it or to offer to fix their mistake. Would not recommend this company

Choosing Don King was possible the worst mistake we have ever made for work on our home. Don came into our home and made a series of promises about our project. He emphasized his commitment to satisfaction. He was so convincing that we didn't think to ask for an invoice, we took him at his word ... BIG MISTAKE. The project was to include a project manager to ensure the work was done to our satisfaction, landscape design, removing of the existing gravel in the planters, a mix of native flowers and plants that we were to pick out at a local greenhouse, landscape fabric and mulch, fertilizing the grass in the yard, and a pressure wash of the fence. What we got was the removal of the gravel and 10 plants (BTW - these were not the plants we chose and NONE of the flowers were planted. Don was supposed to meet us at the Greenhouse to ensure we got the correct plants ... he never showed). The "design" consisted of the workers showing up at our house and asking where the plants should go. When they stuck the plants in the ground 1) most of them were not connected to the sprinkler 2) They broke our existing sprinklers 3) What they did put in place leaked ... so I had to water by hand. 4 months, 50 phone calls and 10 missed appointments later we got an email from Don stating that the project was complete. So for $4000 we got gravel removal from one section of our yard and 10 plants that we did not pick. None over the other things promised by Don ever happened. We were completely scammed by Don King and I cannot recommend strongly enough that you avoid this business. Next spring we will have to get the whole job done again. BTW - I made the mistake of believing the reviews posted on Google - I'm now convinced that they were faked. They bore no resemblance to my experience.

You might as well burn your money instead of hiring Don King. He does shoddy work - truly no regard for craftsmanship or detail. He does not do what he says he's going to do, including flat ignoring direct requests after he promised to honor the request- on multiple occasions. He simply doesn't care. His crew, which generally seem to want to do go work, cannot do good work because Don is rushing them to get to the next job. His crew was working at my house for weeks and Don didn't rent a port-a-pot for them. They were forced to urinate and defecate in a dumpster in front of my house. You will likely have to redo lots of his work. Buyer beware - if you value your money, do NOT hire Don King.

It went amazing, his and his crew made sure I was satisfied with the job that was done. He asked me where I wanted what and we’re very professional. They made me feel like I was part of the project and I can not wait to work with them again in the future. You need a good job done in your property? Don Kind Landscaping is the way to go.

Every single thing that was done by this company I had to have re-done by different contractors, The bill from King was approximately double what he estimated. Never received a single receipt for materials or for labor, despite numerous requests. I would not trust this man to rake my grass. His business practices are horrible. Be prepared to write random checks for random amounts for stuff you have no clue what it is.

On the surface it looked fine, however it is not. The grass is still lumpy has a bunch of dead spots and drainage at the bottom of the year is still an issue. I pointed the drainage issue out and was assured it would all be good. Also noted that he put no weed paper under the rocks that go right in front of the deck. I thought I was common sense that you did that guess not. For the steps I was very clear that the first step needed to be level with the pavers and to work from there. The steps look awful the first step starts out level with the pavers then It SLANTS Downhill and the finish work is awful corners do not line up boards are gapped differently. I have made repeated calls to get this corrected but to no avail. He has my money and considers my job done.. I will now have to pay a 3rd person to fix the mess. Wished I had never hired and paid this person.

Don and his team showed up early and finished the project quickly and effectively. The grass looks perfect and the yard looks exactly as promised. I was so impressed by the level of professionalism and efficiency of Don and his team that I would absolutely recommend their services to my friends and neighbors.

Don King will tell you everything you want to hear to get the job, and then the surprises come. After demo'ing our sun-room, it turned out that Don was not permitted to do the reconstruction as per the stamped engineering drawings we had done by a third party. He poorly communicated with his team, skimped and tried to charge extra for everything he could, and caused massive damage inside our home to due leaving the roof open before the big rains of September, 2013 came (he did fix this, but tried to walk away from it - would have been a serious health hazard with a new baby).Dont believe his BS. He will tell you what you want to hear and than hustle you everyway he can.Stay away.

The work that this group did was substandard. Although I like the garden area in the front of my home, it was not what I asked for. My patio has weeds growing through it, is very uneven. I was talked into getting concrete where I really wanted trees and shrubs. The sprinkler system in the garden area never really worked. We had another company come in and re-do the work that was originally done. Plants died, the wrong plants were put in the shade. The sprinkler system in the back yard was also re-done by another company. There were line leaks, improper coverage. I had always wanted a fireplace in my home, and unfortunately, asked if they could do that. Oh yes, they said they could. NOT. It never worked. Calls, emails, texts were unanswered. Lots of frustration. I had a big hole in my living room for months. The entire mess cost me approximately $18,000 more than I had bargained/budgeted. This does not include the contractor hired to undo and redo the disaster that was the fireplace. My advice: don't take the lowest bid, because you get what you pay for. In my case, it cost me about 3 times as much as it should have and would have spent using more reputable companies - companies who cared, followed through. Don't pay, as I did, without documentation of what you are paying for. We requested invoices and receipts for the job and after 2 years, still don't have them. Read all of the reviews that you can find on this company. I wish I had been more diligent and not in such a hurry.

My first contact with Don King Landscaping was on May 29th. I recently moved into a home in Erie, Co and I wanted to remove the rocks in my backyard and replace them with mulch. The appointment for them to come to check out my yard was scheduled for June 2nd. They arrived on time and they seemed to be professional enough. They added in a great deal of landscaping to the quote which I didnand acirc;€™t request, but I assume that is normal with any quote. We did come to an agreement on pricing for rock removal, mulch and a pathway into the backyard. I asked him to separate the costs and he said he was giving me a deal because I was from Chicago which is why he couldnand acirc;€™t itemize the quote. At that time, I told him I would let him know in a few days. On Friday, June 6th, I called Don King and told him that we would like to hire him. He told me he would need to check his schedule on when he could get the work started and he would get back to me. It is July 28th and I still have not received that call. I obviously canand acirc;€™t comment on his work because we never got to that point. Iand acirc;€™m not sure if he doesnand acirc;€™t need the work or if we simply werenand acirc;€™t expensive enough for him to waste his time, but I would not recommend him due to his lack of professionalism and response.

He will consistently do whatever he wants. He will have someone go over plantings with you and which rocks you want to use etc. etc. but then when its time to pull the trigger, he will get whatever he wants. Listen to him talk to employees or suppliers, he treats them like dirt and has absolutely zero respect for you. Watch out for his slimy tactics, like baking you cookies. Its all just a ploy when hes secretly distracting you for something that has a gone wrong. Ever step of the project will be rushed. Is the stain suppose to cure for 24 hours between coats? Forget that, put three on right now and lets get out of here. Oh you need a fence, well were not going to make sure the pickets are plumb so now they all cascade one direction at a 5 degree lean. So you dislike red rocks and want something more grey blue, f*** you I will get the red rock because its cheap. But just so you know, I am going to charge you for the more expensive rock. Frankly, look at the reviews by and large. You can pick out the fake review since they are all 5 stars. If you speak to anyone who actually had work done by DON KING, you will realize that he has been faking reviews for years. He is a scumbag bull. Together we can put him out of business and end his streak of ripping people off.

Don started off leaps agead of his competitors simply because he was the only landscaper we contacted that arrived at the time agreed upon to begin our estimate. He was kind and approachable throughout the entire process. On two occasions my husband and I came to him with ideas that tweaked the original garden plan but Don saw too it that our dreams became a reality. We are extremely thankful that he was so receptive to our vision of the yard. Now our home has not a yard, but a sanctuary! Last year Don even contacted us to ensure our flower garden was keeping up well and helped us out by blowing out our sprinkler system.

I have been working for Don King Landscaping for 2 years. He is an honest and truthful guy. The clients are always happy within, at least during the time I have been here. He is a lot more reasonable than most landscapers, and he gets the job done fast, and he will not leave before you are satisfied !

Don set up an appointment, came out to talk about the job and give an estimate of the costs within one day of my initial phone call. On the date of the service, Don and his crew arrived early in the day, walked through the details one more time to make sure we were still on the same page and got started on digging for the water lines! It was amazing how fast they completed this job! They had to go under existing pavement in very rocky soil and it was just seamless! They also encountered some problems with my existing plumbing and had to replace some additional pipe in the wall and did so without charging me extra. (They really should have charged me extra) They were fast, polite, affordable, competent and did quality work with quality materials. I would recommend them to anyone! I would not use anyone else for landscape work!!

most of these areas are near a sprinkler head. however the heads don't fullly extend. When i got another sprinkler company to come tell me what was wrong, they found that the pipe installed was only 1/2" instead of the recommended one inch. So eventhough i had plenty of water pressure, it was being diminished by the small pipe. To correct it, will cost $600-$800! There were many more problems relating to miscommunication of the work that was to be done becasue of the way that the bed was written (ie lacking details) Much of this was rectified but took alot of proding and threatening. The Landscape plan i was promised was pathetic and was only a drawing of mostly empty beds and yard. No suggestions for flower planting. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Don gave us an estimate for extensive landscaping, including hard scape for our back and front yards. He agreed to an up front cost and discount for paying up front. After many months the project was still not completed as specified. Many things where never completed and I finally gave up asking for them. He is not prompt in responding and wanted more money to complete just the things that were in the project to begin with.

In the beginning, Don was prompt, professional, and promised some extras "at cost" that turned out to be anything but. The sod that he installed requires heroic efforts to keep growing. Nothing less than an hour of watering/day all summer long has kept it from dying, and some areas of the lawn require considerably more. He promised beforehand that 10 minutes per area every other day would be sufficient to keep the grass green and happy. This suggests he did not prepare the soil correctly. The walkway and patio apron were done without using any weed prevention (there is fabric for this - I forgot what it's called - but it goes between the dirt and the flagstone and is very inexpensive), and the thick weeds that grow in the spaces between the flagstone require continuous effort to remove and keep in check. This will need to be redone. Don King took shortcuts everywhere he could, and did a very poor job overall. He tried to put the dripline up against my foundation because he'd forgotten it in the first place, and when I protested, he left it above ground and very poorly installed roughly in the area I'd requested. The sprinkler system: Don King assured me that it was working great at the completion of the sod, and said he'd come back and check on it after mother's day, when you no longer have to worry about freezing water pipes. I found out when I turned it on that nothing worked at all. When I turned it on, one head spit out some water and then would not turn off. The timer would was not functional with new batteries. Don King did not return my calls or emails about this until I filed a complaint on angies list 2 weeks later. He finally came out and offered to replace my controller/timer "at cost" for $250. After minimal research I found a rain bird timer that completely fit my needs for $35. He installed it, but the sprinkler system worked for about 2 weeks before it failed. It is not the timer. When you turn it on, the pipes vibrate and make a horrendous noise, and water does not make it to the heads. There is no point in calling don king again, as I know that if he responded at all, he would still not do a good job or make it right. Thus after spending $4300, I have to call someone else to redo his work. If you are looking for a landscaper, there are far better options out there. I would NEVER recommend Don King Landscaping.

Don was prompt. He gave me a quote of $69. He took about 3 hours and ended up charging me about $160. I did have some repairs done to my sprinkler system. I've never had a sprinkler blow out before, and I didn't know what to expect. He was nice enough. I felt he took a bit longer than it should have taken.

In a strong wind storm we had a fence panel blow down. We noticed that three of the fence poles had rotted and were loose. We had gotten an estimate from a fence company for $600, but they couldn't come out for a week. The next day Don King Landscaping was doing work for a neighboor and ended up talking to my wife. She told them about the $600 estimate and that they couldn't come for a week and Don King said "We're right here, we can take care of that for you". My wife agreed. There was no estimate provided and the next Monday and Tuesday they worked on the fence. When complete they gave my wife a bill for $3600! That night I talked to Don King and we haggled over the price and eventually I said maybe I'd be willing to pay $2000, but I wasn't happy.
