At first everything went great. Adam supplied a great design, his crew was outstanding and worked very hard. After the job was completed there were a few items that needed fixing, specifically adjusting sprinkler heads as they were (still are) spraying the new fence. Initially the emails I sent requesting that they be adjusted were returned with "Adam (owner) adjusted them personally so they are good" except for the fact I was watching it happen. It took multiple emails before a response, until Adam finally said he was working on getting someone out there. About a week later I noticed a void in the sod and discovered that the line was leaking, it took a few days for him to get someone out to fix the problem. I was never notified that the line was fixed so after a six days with no water on new sod I turned the system back on. 10 days after I initially found the leak I noticed it was still very bad. Now that the line has been fixed the pressure is higher than it was initially and the fence is again getting drenched, no one bothered to do a quality control check and ensure everything was in working order. At this point I am over working with this company and I'll fix it myself, however nothing was left for me to make proper adjustments nor did anyone ever walk me through the sprinkler system. Above it all when I received my Job Maintenance PDF it details how if you leave positive reviews they'll give you $25 here, $50 there and so on. Highly questionable company if they have to pay consumers for positive reviews, had I know that prior to hiring them I would have gone with a different company.

I put this job out to bid and although they were not the lowest, they were real close. Their crew showed up every day on time, materials were delivered promptly time as needed, and they performed as the contract specified. No surprises. Very pleased with the quality.
Description of Work: These guys were so good after our front yard that I hired them back to do the back. Re-landscaped the yard and covered the concrete deck in decorative pavers and put in a slate walk and a bunch of sod. Lots of tear out and replacement as well as modifications to the irrigation system.

They responded to my email, which was a small victory in itself. They were quick to come out and it took about a week to get a design and budget. We did go back and forth on the budget, which was important to me; they didn't just drop me based on cost of the project. Work started on time and took three days. I was pleased with the results. They were responsive to requests to return and take care of a few items within two weeks. I would definitely recommend them!

We hired Thunderbird after reviewing several 5 star ratings, as well as high rating with Angies List. The project took 3 days. All of the existing grasses and ground cover was removed and replaced with perreniel shrub/plant beds and necessary watering provisions (drip line, sprinkler heads, etc). We were totally blown away with the workmanship, design and execution of our project. Dustin is a master at design with color, texture, height kept in mind. He is also a master at scheduling. He gave us a schedule and it was met, even being a little shorter than he had projected. The wonderful team of landscapers, headed by Roberto, were tireless, professional, friendly and the hardest workers we have ever seen. Our new landscaping looks absolutely fabulous!!! We give Thunderbird more than 5 stars and the highest recommendation possible!!!!

Came, assessed and quoted the project. Estimated about a 2 week wait time, however called next day to say there was an immediate availability. Guys came afternoon of first afternoon to drop off all equipment and level the ground. Came back the next day to lay the sod and applied a lot of water before they left. Overall, great hob. Communication day-off was a little weak, as I didn't know when they were leaving or coming, but overall very satisfied.

I got estimates from a few different companies for my paver patio. Thunderbird was a bit lower than other companies, they were willing to work with me on a few issues that other companies were not, and reviews regarding the quality of the work were good. Overall, I am happy with pretty much everything except with how the project was managed. Things leading up to construction were good (they were wonderful about moving my project back a bit when another contractor asked to move his part of the work up), the crew was wonderful, and the finished project is very nice. However, there was poor communication about how construction would unfold (e.g. where supplies would be placed) and the project manager was not at all interested in talking to me during construction. I did not meet him until he arrived several hours after the supplies and crew, and I don't think he would have introduced himself but for me seeking him out. There were a few issues at the beginning that we had to sort out, so I'm glad I found him. When I had questions during construction, he told me to call the individual I had been working with during the proposal stage but that individual had not been to my house since the estimate. I am a visual person so it was very difficult for me to communicate my specific questions and concerns over the phone. The only people who were really at the house and available were the crew and it was suggested that I not talk directly to them as things can get lost in translation. For projects like this (and I have done a few at my home in the past year) I am used to having a project manager who takes lead on communicating with the client, is there when contractors and supplies arrive, and stops by occasionally for quality control, usually after calling me to say they will be stopping by. This was not at all my experience with Thunderbird and it led to quite a bit of stress on my part. On more than one occasion they indicated that they install hundreds of these patios a year and know what they are doing. That is great but every project has unique intricacies and not every client's expectations are the same. I expect a higher level of customer service during the construction phase. To their benefit, the initial install of the patio was not level at one point such that water was pooling in a low spot. When the project manager came out to do a final walk through he didn't ask any questions and just said they would fix it. The polysand between the pavers they had to pop out for the fix is already dislodging (only 3 months later), but I'll try to fix that on my own or see if my usual landscaper can do it. If you are the type of client who just wants someone to come in and get out without having much interaction with you, then Thunderbird is probably a fantastic fit. I prefer to know what is going on and have someone available to answer questions and address my concerns. Though I now have a patio that I love, I won't be using Thunderbird again as we are just not a good fit.

Adam, the owner of Thunderbird Design, came out himself to take a look at my yard. He was the only one of the 6 designers I "interviewed" who truly listened to my needs and who worked with me to come up with multiple possible solutions. I really grill anyone who comes to my home to do work because I want to make sure that it's not only high quality work that lasts, but that the people doing it have a high level of integrity and responsiveness. Adam blew me away in both regards: his work speaks for itself, and he was so patient with me. I would estimate that he spent 6-8 hours (including multiple visits to my home) looking at the yard, answering numerous annoying e-mails about everything under the sun I could think to ask him, and providing advice for everything from watering cycles to the best stain to use on a pergola. He is an absolute professional, and so is his crew. Not only did they come out a week earlier than they had scheduled, but they also got the work done faster--and this is excellent, high-quality work they did! I could not be happier with my choice, and I have already recommended Adam and Thunderbird to friends and neighbors. I would absolutely use him in the future for all of my landscaping needs!
Description of Work: About a third of my backyard (90 feet by 8 feet) was covered in overgrown, mangled juniper bushes that probably hadn't been cared for since the 80s! After moving in, I immediately decided to have them pulled and give my yard a fresh start. I had to wait a few months until the ground thawed to start working, so I brought 6 landscapers out (these were the finalists, after some people/businesses couldn't even be bothered to return phone calls!) to take a look and offer their recommendations. I was looking for something to help with drainage, as my yard slopes in the back, and that would offer a low-maintenance but highly attractive solution.

We called it the "dust bowl". Our weed infested dust patch of a yard with half dead trees that we couldn't save. We just knew that we needed an irrigation system and the rock beds the previous owners put in gone and a playground put in its place. Dustin kinda helped us figure out what all we needed and pretty much ended up making suggestions for a design which we loved and was also possible with the sun/shade areas we had to work with. We pretty much knew very little about landscaping, so we were surprised when Dustin and Adam took such good care of us that they built us what we we didn't know we needed. Thrilled doesn't begin to cover how pleased we are with the project. They even rerouted the gutters on our house to water the new lawn and help cut down our long term water bills. The drawing we signed for wasn't nearly as detailed as what was actually built, but I'm glad I had faith they would do a good job. My son just loves the new yard and happily plays outside every day now.

A crew of several men showed up and excavated the site. They took away excess dirt, put down a base layer, crushed rock, sand, shaped red sandstones, and filled in the joints with polymeric sand. They cleaned up, scrubbed off oil stains from our driveway, were very polite, and did a superior job. Thunderbird employs workers who used all their art and skill to create a beautiful hardscape in our patio area. This was exhausting labor and we really appreciate the work crew's effort.
Description of Work: We needed a new flagstone patio where a partial flagstone patio and hot tub had been years ago. The area was derelict with mud and weeds.

We worked with Adam Porter. I liked the detailed bid, and the CAD rendering of our project. Thunderbird came on the days promised, did the work promised for the price agreed upon. One end of the yard didn't turn-out as we had envisioned, no problem. When they returned for sod installation, they re-did the curve of the retaining wall and repositioned one sprinkler head so it was more to my husband's liking. The process was so easy, I wish I had done this project sooner. Two small negatives. One guy one the first crew left cigarette butts on my property. (Dad died of cancer, I HATE those things). But I realize I'm over-sensitive on the subject. And, the fill dirt was more like fill dirt/rocks/trash. We got the worst of it out, and I think/hope the sod will take root well. Overall a very positive experience. I would recommend Thunderbird Designs to a friend, and if $$$ allows in the future, I would have them work on the front yard.

Adam was incredibly responsive and informative. He arrived for our initial walk and bad weather and traffic delayed our arrival by about 30 mins. Adam stayed and waited for us, which was above and beyond. We also went back and forth about the design, refining it several times. Adam was quick to revise the plan and to offer expert opinion. Installation was completed in a timely manner as projected prior to starting the work. We will definitely use Thunderbird again as we start to attend to future improvements and embellishments.
Description of Work: We had a home built and needed our initial landscaping done. Adam (Owner of Thunderbird) walked the site with us and gathered our ideas and our desired plant materials. He drew up the design, modified it to our final liking, and then the initial landscape was installed. Our design included irrigation system, sod, rock, 3 trees of varied types, 9 bushes of varied types, a crushed granite pathway, and a paver patio.

Description of Work: Set up an appointment over a week ago and the day of the appointment the designer calls and tells me he has family obligations and will have to reschedule. I figured ok fine we all have a life outside of work. He tells me he will look at his schedule and said tomorrow would be a good possibility. Then he emails me to tell me he cant do it until next Monday or Tuesday after 4. Look I know companies get busy but really that little of notice and then have to reschedule for the following week no thanks.

I've used them for about 10 years or so I think. They planted a tree. They came out and landscaped my back 40 as you could call it, then they were coming periodically in the spring to do a spring cleanup and they also did some work on my sprinkler system. They were higher than I would like to have them but I trusted their people and they seemed to work hard and got the thing done well. They were pretty prompt when I needed them to come. Sometimes they were delayed by weather issues. If it snowed that day, they didn't need to come and clean the yard. He usually brought a crew of 3 or 4 people and it took 4 - 6 hours. They seemed very thorough. They cleaned up after themselves, made sure the shrubs that needed to be trimmed were done.
Description of Work: They were my landscaper until I moved into my new house. This was for a spring cleanup, they went around the shrubs, the grasses needed to be cut down to nothing so they would grow well again. I had a lot of Russian sage that leaves a lot of debris. They went around and cleaned up all the leaves, and the debris out of the rock and trimmed as needed.

Don't be fooled. Here's how it went: I've never had a consulation on my backyard before as most of the work I completed myself. I showed him my backyard and discussed how far I've come and what I have left to accomplish. I specifically showed him an area under a large maple tree that I was "stumped with". I wanted a shade garden but wasn't sure what to plant and what would work. I gave him ideas I had in my head for the completion of my yard but again, deferred to him because he was the landscape pro. What he did was just regurgitate everything I told him. In the end, he offered no fresh ideas of his own and to my great dissatisfaction, he never offered any ideas for under the tree nor was it on my emailed estimate. He seemed rushed and very guarded with information as if he didn't want to give away any precious landscape tidbits. This is what I paid $29 for! He also left several messages after sending the proposal, "making sure I received it", but my goodness, give a person time to get to their email without being pressured to do so. I would not recommend this company to anyone. $1600 + to build a planter box?? Give me a break.
Description of Work: Landscaping consultation as promoted with $29 coupon. Here's the description from $29 Landscaping Consultation: "$29 for a landscaping/hardscaping evaluation with a proposal and estimate.
