Terrible sales person - Never return calls. Incorrect estimates, lots of mistakes. I would never recommend this company purely on the basis of their terrible customer service. (And I am a Realtor!! would think they would try and make a good impression - how stupid are they!) On moving day, their moving truck crashed into our truck. Great way to start - have heard nothing from the sales or customer service staff - no apologies, nothing. Moving went ok, team was very good, and worked hard. They now have our personal possessions in storage, but are not calling back to 1. Provide a receipt from our move out, 2. A completed estimate for the whole section of the move the failed to send to us and 3. Confirm that they are scheduled for our move into our new place at the end of the month. What a terrible experience. Will update as we progress. Just save your sanity, and don't use this company.

Damaged Furniture. Most annoying thing was the obvious son (or grandson?) of either the owner or one of the staff who was doing a "summer job" working for the company. He was completely unprofessional. He would not listen to the older, more experienced workers. If they told him to carry something a certain way, he wouldn't. If they told him to take something up, he took it down. He damaged an wing-chair by pulling it through a door. He nicked furniture by banging into things. I couldn't recommend this company to anyone. The drivers and older crew were extremely good. Thy obviously knew what they were doing, but no one could keep up with the twit. I'm sorry to give such a bad review for their sake. They didn't appear to want the kid there either. I did NOT file an insurance claim as it seemed that it would have been a waste of time with this bunch. I don't know why I bothered to purchase it.

This was one of the worst business experiences I have had; maybe the worst. Perhaps since my first move went well years ago with the Denver office of this company, my expectation was that and quot;this was the company I was going to use.and quot; I contacted them in May and was told to call back when he dates were a little firmer; it was noted that this size of the move from a house (two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, 2 baths, and garage full of stuff) could be accommodated and quot;without too much of an issueand quot; though I realized it would be busy season. The visit to preview the items by the local United company in MA went without a hitch. They contacted me within a day and came out expediently. I continued to call Mr. Roger Warren of the Colorado office, Johnson Moving and Storage at least ten times (leaving messages) after the week had passed when he said the bid would be ready. Finally after getting hold of his boss three weeks after the bid was due, I did receive a bid. No surprise, he did not bother to call back again to answer the one simple question I had before signing the paperwork as my relocation expenses had already been approved by my company. The move was bid at a higher-end range; but, that is where I thought it would come in. Add on the two cars we did ship and the extras such as boxes, cratinn etc the company would have earned between $10,000 and $12,000. Here's my and quot;takeand quot; on the situation. I was a busy time to move. Fine. Tell me up front you are booked up. Don't tell me in May it will not be a problem. Be courteous and professional: respond to your messages; especially after I ave gone to the trouble to meet with the local United branch. The MA office did their job. JOHNSON MOVING and STORAGE COULD CARE LESS. I was tempted to sign the paperwork before my only question after the bid was answered (regarding if the bid including packing -unclear in description in contract). Any reader of this review might think, and quot; Why would she even have considered using them after not having calls returned.and quot; I suppose it was simply thinking - one more step and everything is scheduled and it was a busy time and and quot;they will get back.and quot; Finally, the light went off with two weeks before the move and Mr. Warren never returned the call. I knew if they don't communicate with me now, what will it be like if there is a major problem? I also hit the point of even though it is my company's money, JOHNSON MOVING AND STORAGE does not deserve this business. Although delayed a week in the move, we used the back-up plan of pods and local companies to pack and unpack. We shipped the cars through a car shipper. Though slightly more of a hassle, it saved my company over 45% of the cost. And- not one thing was broken. Avoid them.
Description of Work: I contacted Johnson Moving and Storage to quote a corporate move for August 2013. We were planning a move from the Boston metro area to the Denver metro area. I had used the company a few years before and had a good experience between he same two cities.

Just do not use them period! The worst moving experience in my life and I have moved lots!Empty promises, untrained packers, lies, non responsive.....I could go on and on.You will not get return phone calls.Your driver will lie to you - tell you what he thinks you want to hear and then walk off the job with your paperwork and belongings.Your belongings will be transferred to a different truck and you will not have any idea if everything makes it to a new truck. You will be told that your delivery is on one date and take time off of work to find out it will not be arriving for another week to 10 days.Your household goods that you worked hard for or have been in your family for years will be treated like trash! It will be a huge slap in the face! You will be heartbroken, angry, frustrated, you will cry and scream at the way your belongings will arrive, if or when, at the other end.And they will NOT care one bit!Just do not hire them!Top 10 Signs of a Crappy Move from H*** (yes, they are all true!):10) You find a hole punctured through the door of the microwave.9) Your custom-made birdhouse, handmade by her recently passed father, is half destroyed because it is not in a box despite her providing a specific box to pack it in. The missing custom-made mounting pole is found back in Longmont, Colorado after 3 weeks of searching.8) The hot tub is packed on its side without taking off the top, destroying the arms and bracket for opening it and there are huge tears in the hot tub cover.7) Your new Mac laptop and 15k Cannon Digital camera is missing.6) Not a single box is marked with your name, contents, or even the room it came from.5) You find a piece from a sentimental porcelain figurine lying in the gutter next to the moving truck.4) You watch the crew take your several cases of wine out from the belly of the truck, rather than the cargo space, after two weeks of extreme heat and road vibration.3) You see so many pieces of hardware, parts, and pieces on the truck floor that you insist on them sweeping the contents of the entire truck into a box, including the dirt and dust bunnies.2) The team leader for the move puts all of the hardware for your furniture in his cargo pants pockets then walks out on the moving company never to be heard from again (before the delivery, of course). Nothing can be re-assembled when it is delivered.1) The truck, with no crew for two more hours, shows up 10 days after it was originally promised. They have no paperwork, inventory list, or any idea what is yours or what should be on the truck.Just find someone else - anyone else. 8 weeks later and you still will not have all of your shipment - they will tell you they will send it but will not. You also will not be able to put your home together because they can't track down your hardware, or offer beds to family who are coming in from out of town and no one will take any responsibility or step up to do the right thing! Update: 6 months later, you still will not get them to respond with a settlement. We filed the claim, their offer was a slap in the face, resubmitted ALL documentation 2 months, and can not get a response. Wow, what a nightmare! UPDATE: 8 months later...still no contact from them, no documentation received, and will not settle the claim!

Response from Johnson Storage & Moving Co. (026) - Centennial
We have settled this client’s claim per her agreement with the carrier, Mayflower Transit. We have shipped all goods and fulfilled all service obligations under the Bill of Lading signed by the client. We returned her calls within 24 hours. I left my cellphone number and name on her voicemail and offered to intervene. We promptly tendered her claim to the carrier, Mayflower Transit, and ensured that they followed-up. We also shipped all missing items and offered to have someone come out to assemble or repair items. These offers were refused and the client demanded a 100% refund of her money (a free move). We were unable to accommodate this request.

The crew assembled by Johnson did an incredible job moving all of our items in a very diligent manner. More important than the speed at which they performed their work was the prepping they did on the hardwood floors to protect them for getting scratched. The team arrived on-time and completed the work as promised close to the original bid. For the larger items and more delicate pieces (TV, antique dresser), the crew took time protecting those items from any damage and took their time loading and unloading those items. Plus, Johnson provided us with clothes boxes at no extra charge which was A HUGE bonus for us. We have used Johnson on 5 moves and have recommended them to all of our friends for their moves and everyone has been pleased with their work. While not moving anytime soon, we would recommend them to our friends and family going forward

We had a fairly small move and had to pay a minimum amout, but the company responded to our short time frame stored our goods, were very flexible with the dates of delivery. There were a number of people involved in our move. The inital sales contact Victoria, who was awesome. Maria who we dealt with on a regular basis, the packers who did an excellent job, and the movers. All I can say is, I worked with this company back in February and they did such a great job I used them again and they were as great as the first time. If you need a good moving experience, cal Johnson Storage and Moving. They will surely take care of all your needs

Description of Work: Even though we ended up selecting another moving company, I wanted to provide feedback on the estimating process with Johnson's United. Victoria came out and gave a very thorough estimate and spent a lot of time answering my questions and informing me about the moving process, laws, etc. She also was extremely responsive and very patient with all of my concerns and questions. We chose another company because they came recommended by some friends of ours. Johnson's had the best price out of the quotes that I received, but I did not know of anyone who had used them. I can't say how the actual move would have gone, but I think that people may want to put them on their list when getting estimates based on their A+ BBB rating and knowing that they were extremely helpful, professional and thorough throughout the estimating and decision-making process.

I just want to stress (again) that once this company had my money, they did NOT respond to my numerous phone calls or Emails. I will gladly "cut and paste" the bodies of the Email to support my original rating. The driver did, indeed, threaten that if I did not pay the additional amount that he would not deliver my household goods. Regardless of the torches and magazine covers the company claims to have landed, just ask yourself this question; when you move, do you want a company that will trick, bully, and ignore you when you pay a premium price for a door to door move? If the answer is no, stay away from Johnson Moving and Storage.

Please do not hire this company. They were grossly unprofessional (as I will detail below) and when they were confronted with these issues, they became argumentative, threatening, and then just overall unresponsive. Allow me to detail my major issues of discontent with the company. They promised me a "not to exceed" price that was increased by $500 upon delivery. They wouldn't unload my furniture until I paid more than I agreed to pay. The damages to my window screen, my walls while moving furniture, and some of the furniture were never rectified. They sent grossly unprepared workers into my home. If a packer or mover is allergic to pets, it stands to reason that they would bring appropriate medication in order to allow them to work. Instead, I had to provide Benadryl to both the packing and moving crews to allow the employees that are allergic to cats to be able to do their job. When the main office was made aware that I was dissatisfied with the overcharge they did not respond. When they did respond, they essentially said "we have your money and we don't find any reason to honor the "not to exceed" amount because you have already paid. The handling of the payment for these services was handled very unprofessionally. When I tried to pay in advance, I was refused. My card has a $5000 daily processing limit, and I made the office manager aware of this fact. Instead of running the $7700 charge in two separate amounts on two different days, the office manager tried to charge it all in one day, even after extensive coordination. It was very unprofessional and very frustrating. I could go on, but I only have a finite number of characters in which to urge all Angie's List members to stay far away from this company. As most people who have moved know, this is a very stressful event, and in my move, Johnson United took full advantage of me and my vulnerable position. When a company gives you a "not to exceed" guarantee, that is supposed to oblige them to stick to that amount. Johnson United tacked $500 on to the end and refused to deliver my goods until they got their money. As with most reasonable customers, I assumed that the so-called professionals would correct their mistake when it was brought to their attention, but instead I was snubbed and told "if you hadn't initialed the box that the driver told you to initial, we wouldn't have charged you the extra $500; but you did, so we are not obligated to honor our original estimate." Again, moving makes you vulnerable and as a single mom, moving with two kids and two dogs, I was counting on being able to trust the moving company that I hired. They took advantage of me, refused to correct the overcharge, and seemed to think that there is nothing the consumer to do to show their dissatisfaction. They are even listed on ripoffreport.com and they don't care because they think we won't react. NEVER hire this company and make sure your friends don't either.
Description of Work: The packers came on the first day and packed my household goods. They wrapped and packed all of the belongings in my house, with the exception of the items on their prohibited list such as liquids, flammables, etc. It was only at the end of the day, when I was required to sign for the services that the crew chief informed me that I would be charged two extra hours of manpower because some of my things were already packed. I guess the logic was that since they didn't have to pack it or use their materials for the boxes that somehow I was still going to pay. I challenged the crew chief on this issue and she showed me a handwritten post-it note from her office telling her to add the additional charges. The next day, the movers and loaders came to pick up all the boxes, load them, load my furniture, and inventory my household goods. This went relatively smoothly, but they ripped a bedroom screen through careless movement of the boxes while clearing my son's bedroom. They transported my household goods from Colorado to Ohio in less than a week and delivered them according to schedule. They declined to pick up the packing materials upon delivery. It is standard for moving companies to retrieve boxes and packing paper, but when I asked who I needed to call for pickup of the materials, I was told that it was an additional charge. Considering that they charged me $500 over my so-called "not to exceed" estimate upon delivery, I refused to give them one more penny of my money. Please don't hire this company. Let them know that they need to follow through on their commitments when they give a "not to exceed" figure. Also, when packing my household goods, the truck driver said that EVERYTHING I owned was rubbed, frayed, scratched, pitted, torn, etc. This was a clear effort to protect the movers from any liability whats so ever if my furniture was scratched or damaged while moving. When I confronted the driver on this obvious ploy to protect themselves from any responsibility for damage to my household goods, he got angry and actually cussed at me regarding how my stuff wasn't as nice as I thought it was. Would you pay for that sort of service? I wish I hadn't. Don't hire this company and let them know that Angie's List members are aware of their poor service.

WHEN I SAW THIS POSTING ON ANGIE'S LIST, I WENT THROUGH EVERY SINGLE ORDER FROM JUNE TO AUGUST TO FIND OUT WHO THIS CUSTOMER WAS. THAT IS BECAUSE WE TAKE EVERY COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY. AFTER WEEDING THROUGH NEARLY 200 FILES, I FINALLY NARROWED IT DOWN. AFTER VERY CAREFUL REVIEW OF THIS MEMBER'S FILE, IT HAS BEEN CONCLUDED THAT THIS MEMBER WAS NOT OVER-CHARGED, NOR DID JOHNSON STORAGE AND MOVING BREECH THEIR CONTRACT WITH HER BY CHARGING HER OVER HER "GUARANTEED PRICE." UPON INITIAL CONSULTATION, THIS MEMBER STATED THAT SHE WANTED THE STANDARD CARRIER LIABILITY OF $.60 PER POUND. THIS IS WHAT THE CUSTOMER SIGNED FOR ON HER ORIGINAL ESTIMATE. BY LAW: WE, AS A LICENSED AND BONDED MOVER, MUST OFFER EACH CUSTOMER VALUATION (INSURANCE) OPTIONS. AFTER BEING OFFERED ADDITIONAL VALUATION AND AFTER THE MOVE WAS IN PROGRESS, THE MEMBER CHANGED HER MIND AND CHOSE $60,000 IN VALUATION, WHICH IS THE REASON FOR THE ADDITIONAL $515.00. THE MEMBER WAS NEVER FORCED, NOR TOLD THAT SHE COULD NOT RECEIVE HER GOODS UNTIL SHE PAID THE ADDITIONAL MONIES. THE MEMBER WAS GIVEN THE OPTION TO CONTINUE WITH THE STANDARD CARRIER LIABILITY OF $.60 PER POUND, WHICH SHE STATED ON HER ORIGINAL CONTRACT IN HER OWN WRITING, OR REQUEST ADDITIONAL VALUATION AND SHE CHOSE THE LATTER. IF A CUSTOMER HAS A "BINDING" ESTIMATE, WE HAVE A SYSTEM IN PLACE WHERE AS THE PAPERWORK IS AUDITED (RATED), OUR SYSTEMS WILL NOT EVEN ALLOW US TO MODIFY THE PRICE BY ADDING TO IT OR SUBTRACTING FROM IT. VALUATION IS NOT BINDING AND IS THE ONLY THING THAT COULD CHANGE DEPENDING ON THE WEIGHT OF THE SHIPMENT. NO DRIVER CAN FORCE A CUSTOMER TO SIGN SOMETHING THAT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO SIGN. NOT ONLY DID THIS MEMBER SIGN FOR ADDITIONAL VALUATION, BUT SHE ALSO WROTE IN THE AMOUNT OF $60,000. JOHNSON STORAGE HAS RECEIVED THE BBB TORCH BECAUSE WE DO HAVE SOUND AND ETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES. IN FACT, JOHNSON STORAGE AND MOVING IS FEATURED ON THE COVER OF THE BBB 2008-2009 BUYER'S GUIDE. JOHNSON STORAGE AND MOVING HAS ALSO RECEIVED NUMEROUS IMPACT AWARDS, WHICH IS AN AWARD GIVEN TO MOVERS FOR LOW CLAIMS AND NOT TO MENTION, OUR AFFILIATION WITH THE TOM MARTINO TROUBLESHOOTING NETWORK. THIS MEMBER HAD THE OPTION OF FILING A CLAIM IF WE DID THE DAMAGE THAT SHE STATED WE DID. WE HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ANY CLAIM FROM HER AND SHE MOVED IN JUNE. IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS MEMBER CHOSE TO HANDLE HER ISSUE WITH OUR COMPANY IN THIS FASHION, BUT JOHNSON STORAGE AND MOVING DID EVERYTHING RIGHT ON THIS MOVE AND WE NEVER TAKE ANY COMPLAINT, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, FOR GRANTED. WE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGE HONEST FEEDBACK FROM ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS AS WE, AS A SERVICE COMPANY WANT TO BE THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS AND HONEST FEEDBACK FROM OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS AFFORDS US THE OPPORTUNIST TO IMPROVE WHERE WE MAY BE LACKING. THIS MEMBER'S PERCEPTION IS THAT JOHNSON STORAGE AND MOVING IS AN INFERIOR COMPANY THAT RIPS OFF INNOCENT CONSUMERS AND THAT IS HER PERCEPTION, WHICH WE HAVE NO CONTROL OF. WE TRULY WISH SHE HAD A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE WITH OUR COMPANY. THIS MEMBER STATED IN HER OWN WORDS THAT SHE CHOSE JOHNSON STORAGE AND MOVING BECAUSE OF OUR REPUTATION. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE CREW WAS PUNCTUAL AND THEY WERE A GOOD MOVING CREW. WE ARE A QUALITY-DRIVEN COMPANY WITH NUMEROUS AFFILIATIONS WITH REPUTABLE BUSINESSES AND CHAPTERS. WE HAVE NINE LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER A HUNDRED YEARS. WE STAND BEHIND OUR SERVICE, OUR EMPLOYEES AND CERTAINLY VALUE EACH CUSTOMER AS YOU ARE WHAT MAKE OUR BUSINESS SUCCESSFUL.
