Description of Work: After using Dish satellite network for nearly 3 years, with autopay each month for the ever-increasing charges, we lost CBS network because of a contract dispute they were having during new preview series, then we lost Fox News for nearly a month, had lousy coverage of the NFL football games (compared to DirecTV's NFL option that gives you ALL of the games). We also lost the feed frequently. We decided to change back to DirecTV, which we had previously had at a former home. Not only did DISH make it nearly impossible to reach anyone to cancel service (you cannot do it online), leaving us on hold for an hour and 40 minutes, during which time it transferred the call unsuccessfully twice, dropping the call and making us have to call back, navigate the menu, and wait again for a real person. Once we had a real person, he was anything BUT helpful, and then started telling us we would have to pay additional charges to pay for boxes and labels to send five pieces of equipment back to them, and if we didn't do it within a certain time frame, they would charge us up to $289.00 per piece (again five pieces). I told him I didn't need the boxes or labels because the same dealer that installed Dish was also an installer for DirecTV and would send the pieces back to him for me. He confirmed that they owed us a half month prepaid service (I still don't have it nearly a month later), but have received numerous recorded messages, letters, and texts alternately threatening me if I don't return their equipment immediately or telling me what a good customer I am and they want me back and offering all sorts of discounts if I resign with them. I have received TWO unwanted boxes of smaller boxes and labels which I have had to send back to them, even after I sent them the FedEx tracking number of the package containing their equipment (all five pieces)which the dealer/installer returned to them for me. I would NEVER deal with these insufferable people again. Not only were they insulting, they are apparently unbelievably stupid, with little or no internal communications, and NO training on how to deal politely and effectively with customers. On another note, changing to DirecTV saved me nearly $60.00 per month, with more, and better, services.

NO CHARGE FOR SWITCHOVER, INCLUDING INSTALLATION OF SUPER DISH AND DUAL TUNER. I PAID $9.95 FOR AN UPGRADE TO THE DUAL TURNER DVR. THEY THREW IN A REMOTE TELEPHONE MODULE FOR FREE. THE FULL 180 CHANNEL SERVICE WAS INCLUDED FOR 90 DAYS FOR THE BASIC 60 CHANNEL CHARGE. OUR RECEPTION IS BETTER THAN WITH DIRECTV. THE DUAL TUNER DVR IS UNIQUE TO DISH. YOU PAY BY TUNER SO YOU GET 2 FOR 1. THE SECOND TV OPERATES OFF A REMOTE THAT USES UHF SIGNAL. I HAVE FOUND THE RECEPTION TO BE NOT SO GOOD BUT WORKABLE. YOU HAVE TO MOVE THE REMOTE AROUND UNTIL YOU GET A STRONG SIGNAL FOR CONTROLLING THE CHANNELS AND PROGRAMMING. WE ALSO WERE ABLE TO SPLIT CABLES FROM THE SECOND TUNER AND CAN OPERATE TV'S IN 3 ROOMS WITH THE UHF REMOTE (ALL 3 MUST BE ON THE SAME CHANNEL BUT WE USUALLY ARE ALL IN THE SAME ROOM SO IT WORKS GREAT FOR US). WE ARE PAYING LESS WITH DISH THAN DIRECTV FOR APPROXIMATELY THE SAME CHANNELS (PLUS A FEW, MINUS A FEW) THE DVR IS GREAT. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THEIR PRODUCTS AND SERVICE).

I USED DISH FOR THREE YEARS, AND ONCE IT SETTLED DOWN I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE SERVICE AND THE PRICE. NOTE: INSIST THAT THE INSTALLATION DONE FOR YOU IS DONE BY AN ECHOSTAR EMPLOYEE AND NOT A SUB-CONTRACTOR. ECHOSTAR OWNS DISH NETWORK. THE FIRST TRIP BY A SUB-CONTRACTOR WAS SUB-STANDARD. THE ECHOSTAR EMPLOYEE WHO CAME OUT FOR THE SECOND TRIP COMMENTED ON HOW POOR THE WORKMANSHIP WAS. ALSO, IF YOU GET THE LOCAL CHANNEL PACKAGE FOR THE TWIN CITIES, YOU MAY NEED TO HAVE A SECOND DISH INSTALLED. THIS IS DONE AT NO CHARGE TO YOU, BUT FOR ME THEY DIDN'T AUTOMATICALLY DO IT. SO MAKE SURE YOU'VE GOT ALL THE LOCAL CHANNELS (17 WAS THE PROBLEM) BEFORE YOU SIGN OFF ON THE WORK.

I SPOKE TO A SUPERVISOR, WHO TOLD ME THAT THEY RAN A CHECK AND SAW A PREVIOUS CONTRACT AT THAT ADDRESS, AND CANCELLED THE NEW REQUEST. THEY MADE THIS DECISION WITHOUT EVER NOTIFYING ME. I ASKED HOW I COULD BE REFUSED BOTH SERVICE UPGRADES, AND/OR A NEW ACCOUNT, AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD MAKE AN EXCEPTION TO THE RULE, AND SET UP A NEW ACCOUNT. THIS WOULD TAKE ANOTHER WEEK TO BE ACTIVATED. I EXPRESSED MY FRUSTRATION IN A LETTER TO THE COMPANY, WHO, WITHOUT CALLING OR MAKING AN ATTEMPT TO CONTACT ME, DID REFUND THE BALANCE OF MY ORIGINAL ACCOUNT, AND DID KEEP THEIR LAST SERVICE APPOINTMENT, GETTING MY ACCOUNT SET BACK UP.
Description of Work: I CALLED TO REQUEST A 3RD HOOK-UP AND UPGRADED RECEIVERS FOR MY EXISTING TWO HOOK-UPS. I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT I COULD HAVE ONE OR THE OTHER, BUT NOT BOTH. I OFFERED TO PAY ADDITIONAL FEES FOR THE SERVICES, BUT WAS TOLD THAT "THE COMPUTER SAID" I COULD ONLY HAVE ONE OR THE OTHER. I TOLD THEM I WOULD GO TO A RETAIL SHOP TO GET MORE HELP. I WAS TOLD THERE THAT THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE THE SITUATION WAS TO CANCEL MY EXISTING SERVICE AND START WITH A NEW CONTRACT. I BOUGHT THE NEW ACTIVATION PACKET AND PROCEEDED TO FOLLOW HIS ADVICE. MY HUSBAND CALLED ON 6/18 TO SET UP THE NEW ACCOUNT. INSTALLATION WAS SCHEDULED FOR 6/23 8-12. ON 6/21, I CALLED TO CANCEL THE EXISTING SERVICE. IT WAS STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. WHEN I REQUESTED A REFUND FOR THE BALANCE OF MY ACCOUNT, I WAS TOLD THE COMPUTERS WERE DOWN AND I WOULD HAVE TO CALL BACK. ON 6/23, THE INSTALLER DID NOT SHOW UP. WHEN I CALLED TO FIND OUT WHY, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ACCOUNT WAS NEVER SET UP AND THE INSTALL WAS NEVER SCHEDULED.

IT WAS A HOT DAY AND THE INSTALLER WAS NOT ABLE TO FINISH THE JOB THE FIRST DAY BECAUSE HE HAD TO SPEND MORE TIME IN THE ATTIC THAN ANTICIPATED. HE DID RETURN THE FOLLOWING MONDAY.

THE SATELLITE INSTALLATION WAS FREE BECAUSE WE CURRENTLY HAVE DISH NETWORK AND THEY WERE GIVING US A REPLACEMENT. THE INSTALLER WAS POLITE AND ON TIME. HE PERFORMED THE JOB QUICKLY AND WAS CAREFUL TO SHUT THE GATE WHEN HE LEFT.

THE INSTALLATION TECHNICIAN WAS COURTEOUS AND PROMPT. HE WORKED WITH MY HUSBAND TO SET UP ALL FOUR ROOMS TO MY HUSBANDS SATISFACTION.
Description of Work: RAN A COUPON FOR FREE INSTALLATION, FOUR ROOMS AND PREMIUM CHANNELS FREE FOR THE THREE MONTHS. WE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THIS. THEY WERE COURTEOUS AND SPEEDY. CURRENTLY OUR MONTHLY BILL IS APPROXIMATELY $53.00 AND WE CAN CANCEL THE PREMIUM CHANNELS WHEN THE THREE MONTHS EXPIRES.
