The owner, Justin Metzeger, was very friendly and eager to promise the world. He seemed capable, but his management of my project was scarce, erratic and mostly nonexistent. The project was scheduled to be completed in 4 weeks. I made it clear that this time frame was extremely important to me before any work began. He promised that my project was small and could be knocked out in a couple of weeks. By week 3, only demolition of preexisting landscaping (trees, bushes, plants, mulch) had been completed. When I followed up with Justin about why the project was taking so long, I'd receive endless excuses (usually with a combative attitude). One after the other. "I have other jobs that I'm managing. I'm not going to get rich off of your $5000 job." "I'm working all day at another location. I'm not sitting next to a pool." "It rained. We can't work when the ground is wet." "it was 95 degrees today." Followed by endless broken promises. "We're focusing on getting your project done this week." "You're my only client for the next five days." "I have your (insert building material here) sitting in my truck waiting to be installed." "We'll be done by Friday." I paid in thirds. 1/3 at project start. I advanced him another 1/3 after he asked for it in hopes of getting the work done. He continued to ask for more money even though the project was only 25% complete. He completed roughly 60% of the work in three months after promising it would all be done in 4 weeks. He consistently and repeatedly broke his word on days he'd be working, completion deadlines and materials that he needed to purchase... all while asking for numerous payment advances even though the work was progressing way behind schedule. A lot of the work he did do, was clearly not high quality and was seemingly done to save time and costs. At this point, he has been paid for most of the project. After almost three months of incompletion, and in interest of finishing the project; we both agreed that he would refund me some of the money he had been paid. I was forced to finish the job myself and purchase materials out of my own pocket. I had planned to use the refund to help pay for those materials. I have received several promises of payment, but have not received any money from him. After dealing with Justin's constant dishonesty for three months, I have little confidence that he intends on paying this debt.

The owner of Blackbird Construction (Justin Metzger) is a liar, a hot-head, and a con-artist. I hired him to do some electrical work that should have taken him one day, took him several days. I hired him to pressure wash my deck and paint, he never pressure washed, he painted only. I wasn’t home when he was supposed to pressure wash, so he cut a corner and thought he could get it passed me. He was also hired to replace and fix some rotted boards. The boards he put down were not the right size and look horrible. He said they were fine. He was hired to re-do my water-feature/pomd. When finished, the water came out cloudy white because he didn’t let the caulk dry. It also looks like it was haphazardly put together. You can see the black rubber tarp all over the pond. He says he knew how to do all of these things, but obviously didn’t. He finally had to hire an electrician who fixed everything. He was late 80% of the time, and put in half days. When we did the final walk-thru, I told him certain things weren’t to my satisfaction. He got very upset, stormed off and told me I would see him in court. This man is not a professional, and is more of a con artist and lies through everything he does. Stay clear of him.
