 + -1 moreArrived at our office to address a plumbing issue with our bathroom tub leaking. The gentleman determined very quickly that it was not a plumbing issue but the caulking around the tub. Nearly a week later, we have water leaking through the ceiling into the first floor from the tub drain.

 + -1 moreI spoke to Bill (I think) and he was booked for the day that I called, but put me down for an appointment first thing the next morning. He told me that a plumber would be at my house between 8am and 10am. I got a call at 7:30 am that the plumber was on his way to my house. The plumber assessed the situation and determined that it was not a leaking pipe (as I thought it was) and that it was a relatively simple fix that I we could do ourselves. I was very relieved and refreshed that he did not use scare tactics as a means to pressure us into paying for unnecessary repairs. My fiance and I just bought this house, and it is old and needs a lot of work. We've had many different contractors come to our house for various jobs and quotes, and some of them have definitely tried to make mountains out of molehills in order to scare us into extraneous services. We haven't had to call a plumber until this problem arose, and I will definitely call Bill Smith Plumbing for any future plumbing needs!

 + -1 moreThe appointment was scheduled for the next day with a 2 hour window.At the beginning of the 2 hour window they phoned to notify me that they were on their way to my residence.They arrived within 40 minutes of their call.The service technicians surveyed the job and then began work.Two hours later they were done with everything.I finally found a plumber I can trust to do nice work, arrive on time, and not try to rip you off. The two service men were professional, polite, honest, and did a great job. When it came time to pay, I was shocked and happy with the pricing, maybe because I am used to other plumbing outfits who were pretty much salesmen and thieves operating under the guise of plumbers. I will be using and quot;Bill Smith Plumbingand quot; in the future for all of my plumbing related needs. Thank you Bill and Paul, I was very happy with all you did.

 + -1 moreVirtually paralyzed , I am reluctant to make more calls to more unpleasant, untrustworthy people. I'll put up with no functional bathroom sink until I can find someone I feel comfortable with.
Description of Work: The contact person was argumentative , condescending. I was given the now familiar phrase: we've been doing plumbing since 19--. Before I could arrange an actual visit I had to listen to derogatory comments about the replacement parts purchased and the prudence of selecting my own fixtures. The problem is that the representative has no knowledge of the brands currently installed or of the replacement vessel sink and waterfall faucet. Amazon.com's customers have reviewed the items favorably and there is a service protection plan but there was no interest in these details. In fit the rep seemed to resent this contribution to the conversation. I didn't call a repairman to get a dressing down about what and from whom to purchase what materials. My proposal was for installation of intact, quality materials. period. Why it is commonplace for contractors to treat their customers with disrespect I don't know. How it is they can expect the home owner to pay for the original assessment visit and a fixed charge per hour regardless of the job I will never understand. A surgeon charges per visit, per procedure, not for the time spent on coffee break or telephone calls or socializing. There are no "standards of practice" guiding the practices of plumbers, no guarantee of their competence. Perhaps most illogical of all is the practice of having the home owner assume responsibility for any damages the repairman causes while performing his work. A stranger, with or without proper training and certification and/or licensing, is in your home doing as they will and you are entirely at their mercy. You will pay them whether they perform the job requested or not, regardless of the workman's proficiency and assume the cost of any damage they do. Is there no equivalence of malpractice insurance, are there no ethical guidelines? I don't understand most of the reviews either. People who are clearly unhappy with the job done are giving the contractors good ratings . Is it because they are grateful to have survived the experience ? For being safely rid of the intruder ?Home Advisors and Angie's list have not saved me from disastrous interactions with contractors in the past and I can't trust that a new one will be any different from the others, given the brusque reception of the plumbers contacted thus far. I honestly don't know what to do. I am now afraid to engage anyone. I would sincerely appreciate advice from someone who has used a reputable , licensed, insured company and survived the experience in good shape, emotionally and financially. (When Angie's List first began that was actually the general aim of the group.)

 + -1 moreThe crew of two showed up at the appropriate time and asked if the job estimators had showed up. The estimators, as was explained to me, were supposed to have visited earlier and given me an estimate and would have the required supply information relayed to the plumbers. I told them that no one had come earlier. They examined the work to be done and said they would do the best they could do with what they had. There was no estimate offered and so I told them to go ahead thinking that since they were on Angies List it would have an appropriate cost. In the end after about 2 and a half hours I paid the bill of about $500. When I presented a cost voucher for which my husband had paid $25, they would not accept it. I was told that the 4-plex that we own was not considered residential and that I should just save it for use on my own home. I protested and then asked if there was a senior citizen discount and again was told no. I protested again and then was told that the plumbing job was really worth a $1000 not just $500, I guess implying that I had no right to complain. Our Jefferson County property taxes are appraised as residential. I have no use for the voucher at my home and it expires in six months. I still protested that I would be giving their company a lot of business with 8 apartments and many companies even send us coupons which we have used on our apartments. But no luck! When I got home and told my husband about this, he said that when he had called the company about the job, he was clear that it was an apartment and was told that he could use an Angies List voucher. So in the end if it is worth it to them to take us for $25, give no estimate and not come with proper supplies, it is worth it to us not to use their company again.

 + -1 moreI was very pleased with our experience. Dan was very pleasant, clearly explained what needed to be done, and did an excellent job. The main water supply for our lawn sprinkler system had a slow leak and the adjacent backflow preventer was in need of maintenance. The only downside is that they were booked and I had to wait 10 days for an appointment, but I'm glad I waited. It's been a long time since I've been happy with a plumber. I will use them again in the future.

The rate for the work was very fair. The installers showed up on time, were professional and friendly, and they did a nice neat job, exactly like we asked. We are now looking at additional work from them - they are going to move water lines in our basement in preparation for ductwork on our A/C and furnace. Again, the estimator showed up exactly on time, was very friendly and professional, and easy to work with. We are scheduled to have that work done in the next week, and have every confidence that they will do a great job. Highly recommend!

 + -1 moreTech showed up when scheduled got right to work to install new garbage disposal. I also asked him to unclog two bath tubs that were draining very slow. This was something I didn't talk about when I scheduled the appointment but he was very happy to do it while he was there. I was able to use a coupon I got from Angie's list and so everything only cost $146 after coupon. I should also mention that I previously had picked up a garbage disposal so this price did not include the garbage disposal. I purchased the disposal at home depot for $100.
Description of Work: Installed new garbage disposal. Unclogged two bath tubs that were clogged and draining slowly. Tightened faucet in kitchen.

 + -1 moreIt wasn't so great. It cost me a little more. I can't remember the specifics but they tried to fix something in the gas fireplace. They did fix it but then it stopped working immediately. Someone else came and we had to pay all over again. They said they needed to get a part but they never called us back. However, they were very nice, they came on a timely basis but when i complained that i didn't think that i have to pay for the second visit, they were hesitant. That cost a lot of money but they were never fully resolved. Their price is reasonably fair.

He quickly found the leak in the ceiling and within an hour had the leak fixed and was ready to leave. I had called some other plumber's listed on Angie's List first, but I was not able to speak to anyone. With Bill Smith Plumbing, I talked to a real person right away who took my information and immediately contacted the plumber on duty. I like that. The price was very reasonable for an emergency call. I would definitely use Bill Smith Plumbing again, and I would ask for D.J.
