DO NOT USE MIST INTERIOR OR WORK WITH MIKE BAN! He was supposed to help use build a foundation and get our home set. Instead we spent three times more money than was estimated. He was never on the job site (He sent his Dad to cover for him) from my investigation he was going to the tropics for fishing trips instead of building our home. He delayed our home build by months! My family of six had to spend months in a hotel until our home was ready. We fired him and hired another contractor. We had to completely replace and repay for the plumbing Mike did in the basement. This guy is a joke and a con-artist. DO NOT HIRE HIM.

Plumbing and drywall was no one I would have in my home again. I’ve had to hire separately to fix. Feel free to reach out for a copy of the bill I’ve had to fix

erMike Ban of Mist Interiors came recommended to us. We used a fabulous builder for our first house, but he doesn't do small projects and he recommended a floor guy to us when we moved. The floor guy in turn recommended Mike for the stairs. He said Mike was best. Mike came out and looked at the stairs and we agreed to keep the white wood ballusters. Mike said some of them might be damaged, so we agreed to plan on replacing 20 of them. Mike came out with his son and pulled up the carpeting on the stairs, removed the handrails and installed the treads and risers over a weekend in early July. I paid him $3,000 in advance. Mike just installs the wood, he doesn't finish it. But, our painters said they could paint and stain the stairs for an additional $1,500. However, when Mike finished the job, I got a call from our painters telling me I should come look at the stairs, because they were a mess and there was no way they could work with them. The handrails were shaky, nails were sticking out everywhere. Eight of the ballusters were cracked through and most of the rest of them were damaged. When we contacted Mike he said that he has a guy who will come by and finish the stairs and "bondo" the bad ballusters, take care of the nails, etc. We also complained to Mike about the fact that he didn't use red oak on all of the risers, some were a wood composite. He told us that it didn't matter because we were painting that part white. We told him that we didn't want to bondo anything and we wanted him to come back out and fix things. He came for a few hours and took care of the nails, replaced 8 ballusters and secured the bannisters a little better. He apologized for the original job and said he hadn't realized he had done such a bad job but had been in a rush to get to a fishing competition in Mexico. He gave us the name of the guy who finishes stairs for him. I had Mike's guy come out, and he said it would cost us $3,800 to finish the stairs. Meanwhile, Mike was texting me every day for the remainder of the payment (starting three days after completing the project). We were in the process of moving into the house, so I didn't get back to him for two days and then he threatened to sue us. Because we were moving that week, I hadn't had a chance to line someone else up to look at the stairs and Mike wouldn't agree to wait for me have it checked out. He just left me angry emails and texts about his money. I ended up sending him a check because I was starting to get scared of the way he was behaving and because I didn't want to have to worry about him putting a lien on our house. We had two other contractors come out to look at the stairs and both were appalled. One contractor told us that the stairs weren't safe, the handrails were not secured properly and that the ballusters were not secured at all. To demonstrate, he popped out one of the ballusters with ease. So, we ended up removing all of the ballusters, having the stairs sanded and stained and painted and then had new ballusters put in. We had such good luck in the past with contractors, that I assumed Mike would also live up to the recommendation. My husband travels a lot for work and we have two small children and I don't know a lot about building. I felt silly asking questions and thought maybe he was right about not using red oak for all of the materials or simply "bondo-ing" the ballusters. But, we've had three separate professionals look at the stairs and tell us they were not safe, that they were messy and that Mike did an incredibly poor job.
Description of Work: Pulled up carpeting on 17 step front hall staircase and installed red oak treads, risers and rail cap. Had to remove handrail and then put it back on.
