We found a deal on Angie's List for $200 for door replacement, but new we would pay more for fixtures, door, new screen door, etc. They arrived on time and did the work described. Brain actually purchased the door and new screen door on our behalf at the local Home Depot. When he began the installation he used the old hinges, but we asked for new ones, so he stopped work, went back to HD and got new hinges. The day after completion of the job I noticed that some nails by the lock were pushing out the window moulding so we called for a follow up. He came back without question within a couple of days and fixed the moulding. The only thing that I would change: I should have purchased the door in advance, so I could have painted it before installation. I now have an unpainted front door. I don't mind painting it, but to do this correctly I need to loosen the hinges, and lock to avoid painting over these fixtures!
Description of Work: Brian and his crew put in a new entry door in our home.

Brian was on time, took necessary care with the carpentry and installation and it is a pleasure to have doors that work.
Description of Work: I own a "late model" home and older homes can present more "intrigue" than one would hope. Brian did an excellent job in installing both an exterior door and a storm door and taking care that both doors are functional and present a nice invitation for people coming to the house. I would certainly recommend him to other clients.

Evidently my piddly job was not important enough to warrant a return phone call since they couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge my request for help (no phone call, no email, no nothing). Adding this company to my list of those who will never get my business or the business of my friends or family. Actually none of the companies I found on Angie's List returned my calls. That's $17 down the toilet.

Brian does a great job, and obviously loves his profession.
Description of Work: We first hired Brian to re-side our carport. He did a wonderful job taking off the old tin and siding it with wood that would match the grain of the house. He paid close attention to all the little details like how to work with OLD buildings and to make adjustments in areas where the structure he tied into wasn't plumb or square. He even put a dog door in the new siding, so our dogs could access that part of our fenced yard! 4 thumbs and 12 paws up to Brian for doing such a great job. We love it, the door works great, and the siding looks great. Woof, woof. We have hired Brian for a couple of additional jobs since then because we now have someone we can call and who we trust to do a great job at a fair price. We then had him build us a custom, wooden pantry cabnit. Not only is it complementary to our 100 year home by matching the orginal oak floors, but it created loads of storage for our small kitchen.

Brian gave me a quote for the work which involved removal of the old storm door, removal of the old exterior door, reframing as needed, and installation of the new door including all finish trim. The job was more involved than he planned for -- this is a 108-year-old house, and when he removed the old door and trim he found that the reframing was more involved than what was expected. There was also a problem with reconnecting the security alarm sensor which he had to disconnect when removing the old door trim. Even though the job required more time and materials than he based his quote one, Brian didn't even mention additional cost and just charged what he'd quoted. The end result is extremely professional and just what we wanted. Another thing -- the only evidence that he'd even been there was the new door. He thoroughly cleaned up all dust and debris.

First Brian measured to provide an estimate for a replacement deck. After my husband and I selected Brian for the job, he met with us to outline his plan of work. Then we paid him to for the Trex decking material. Brian worked every day, Monday through Friday, not weekends to remove the old deck and build the new one. When the deck was completed to our satisfaction, we paid him in full. Because we liked Brian?s work, we asked him if he would give us a bid to add a lattice fence top above our established fence. He did. Brian built all the lattice sections in his shop. Each section had to fit like a puzzle to match the established fence. When he brought all the sections over to install, it took him a day to anchor each section. We highly recommend Brian Tilson of Wood-N-Things.
Description of Work: Brian Tilson of Wood-N-Things is an extraordinary carpenter who completed a 575 square foot Trex deck and a 200’ x 30’ foot latticed fence top for our garden. My husband and I interviewed eight highly recommended builders from Angie’s List and we are thankful we selected Brian Tilson of Wood-N-Things. Brian is the sales person, project manager, and land carpenter who is always present on the job. He is easy to contact since he does it all!

We moved from Indiana to Colorado and had horrible movers. They snapped the end of my handmade Amish bed footboard off. I contacted Wood-n-Things and received a prompt response. They came to my home, took the footboard to their shop for repair and had it back to me within a day or two as promised. They even offered to help assemble the bed. Looks good as new. Would use them again.

Brian works primarily alone and I had to just be patient. He was about a week behind. Trust me. He will get back to you and you will be glad you hired him. Best contractor I've ever had in my home.
Description of Work: When I had a wood floor installed years ago the installer cut my ballusters too short on a hand railing. I had no idea how to fix this and Brian had a brilliant idea that saved me time, money, and gave the best possible result. I have a $300 home and this is the first thing I show people. I am extremely happy with the work that was done!
Description of Work: If you need doors installed, Brian is your guy!! I have an old house, where nothing is standard, so pre-hung doors were not an option for me. That was not a problem for Brian! He fabricated frames, installed the doors, and did a great job all around. When he couldn't find the exact door I wanted, he went as far as to send me a picture of a door he thought would work. I will, without a doubt, call Brian when it comes time to replace any other door in my house!

Brian was professional from the first email contact about this job. He was busy with many projects but promised to contact me in a month when he had more availability and he did!! He gave me a reasonable estimate on the work and always showed up on time. The refinishing of the door took a little more work than anticipated but he was able to fit the extra time in his schedule and mine and the finished product is fantastic!! I would definitely hire him for any project around my house.
Description of Work: Brian stripped the door of many layers of stain and other unknown substances to be able to restain and also planed the door to fit so it could be easily closed.

Wood-N-Things did an excellent job putting crown molding around my sun room. This was a very difficult job since my ceiling was uneven on one side and it took great skill to hide the imperfection and make the molding look beautiful. My room looks stunning and I am very pleased with it!Brian and his helper came on time on Wednesday and began to measure everything very carefully. They moved some furniture to enable them to work. Then they began to nail up the molding. After the molding was up they very carefully painted it. When they were finished, they replaced the furniture and cleaned up the room. I am very happy with the results.
Description of Work: Wood-N-Things covered the wallpaper edging around the top of my walls in my sunroom with wood molding. The molding is 5 inches. It was then painted white. The molding had to be fitted to accomodate a crooked ceiling.

The work went extremely well, as usual.
Description of Work: Coming off a great job he did for me on the front and rear entry and storm doors, I had him install a shelf high up on a wall to support a 79lb. portable air conditioner I was using to supplement my A/C in an upper south-facing room that was always getting unbearably hot in the summer. He put in the hooded vent to the outside as well as installed the shelf. I really love the job he did and this is working very well for me. Next year, I'm going to have him adjust the height of the shelf, but that's a minor issue that I decided on after the work was done.

Brian was absolutely professional, punctual, and courteous. He worked tirelessly and completed the job in a timely manner. He was very accomodating. When one piece had to be reordered because the designer had not measured correctly, he had to complete the job on additional days. So completing the job meant he had to make a separate trip from his workshop after the new piece arrived. He also stained and installed molding purchased separately and matched the cabinets perfectly. He did a great job of cleaning up after each day's work. He was very easy to work with and totally knowledgeable about his craft. I would use him again without a doubt.
Description of Work: Brian installed cabinets in two rooms of our home over a three and a half day period. He also stained some additional pieces which had been purchased separately and dealt very effectively with a couple of walls that were not plumb. He gave us good advice on ordering a new piece to substitute for one incorrectly sized by the designer.
