Wild Irishman Tree & Landscape

During Covid, it was evident how much my husband and I had neglected our yard over the years. We called around to several companies. We received at least four estimates. We then came across Wild Irishman Tree and Landscaping. We were very impressed that the company has been around for over 20-years in Northwest Denver. Wild Irishman Tree and Landscaping provides a wide variety of services from full construction (driveways, tiny homes, etc.) to landscape design. In our case, Duane provided us with several revisions of the initial design. We were looking for plenty of outdoor living space, stone walkways, and the correct mix of flowers and greenery. One of the most important things about Duane is we were able to give him verbal change orders right on the spot. His execution and quality are bar none. His range of skills allowed us to make an educated decision and we were able to achieve exactly what we wanted! Duane and his crew were great to work with. Everyone was polite and hardworking. I would encourage you to call Duane and get a landscape consultation. You will understand why you should choose him over other companies. I would recommend Wild Irishman Tree & Landscaping to anyone looking for professional customer service, a fair price, and great results. Good luck on achieving your landscaping dreams.

Quoted sprinkler system, patio construction (pavers), sod, ledge stone wainscot. Wanted 70% before work began. Agreed to payment based on work, we buy materials. Purchased materials in late February. Did patio and sprinkler demo work, patio road-base install, 1/3 of ledge stone install before demanding (with hostile threat of schedule delays) $20K to 'keep ahead' in mid-April and then disappeared. Ignored termination letter, telephone calls, emails and texts until late May. Sent a couple of guys for a half-day once a week for 3 weeks, ending mid-June, and has not returned. Pavers still sit in driveway, installed unusable single sprinkler zone (no water or clock with now dead/dying vegetation), ran short of ledge stone and abandoned effort. Completion percentages on quoted items show him about $12K 'ahead'. Took it before a Denver judge, who ruled against Wild Irishman. He has not even acknowledged the judgement. In all, a true nightmare.

On 9/8/2020 I reached out to this company on their website to ask about Xeriscaping. Duane O'Hara responded within 20 minutes with an e-mail requesting to come to our home and speak with us in person. He visited our home and we told him exactly what we were looking for in this design. We were a little off put by his mannerism, he complained about multiple other customers and wasn't exactly polite, and his reviews weren't great but we wanted to trust him. He said the first step in the process was to write him a $600 check for the design. We discussed the design at length, sending him photos and telling him exactly what we wanted. He promised that the design would be what we requested, that he would include all pricing, and that we would have an opportunity to edit the design if we weren't satisfied with it. He also promised the design within about 5 days and said that he could even start on the work within two weeks. When I didn't hear from him in 5 days with the design I reached out multiple times (I have all emails and records) when I finally heard back from him he sent me a generic design that was NOT what we requested. When I reached back out to him to let him know the design was not what we requested I didn't hear back from him. He was supposed to incorporate my current flowers, remove the flower beds and include price in the design, the design had nothing like that in it. Additionally, when he visited our home he promised that we would have TWO free design adjustments, so even if he believed the design to be correct he let us know that we would be able to edit it. So to summarize, we paid him $600 for a design that is not what we asked for, we have tried reaching out to him and his company EVERYDAY for the past three weeks. He wasted no time coming to our home, promising us everything would be okay and cashing our check but when there was a problem we have heard nothing back from him. Our check was cashed over 4 weeks ago, he has taken our money and literally disappeared. We have called and emailed multiple times. He misrepresented himself, his company and his services. We have paid for a service and not received the promised goods. This is an awful way to do business and others need to be warned.

Duane responded to my inquiry for an estimate with in minutes of my online submission-he was able to schedule me the same day. He was very informative, and knowledgeable. We discussed many ideas about what to do with the space that I have, and he was able to come up with a cost effective plan for me. The job went very smooth-once I signed up for the project, I was scheduled that same week to get my project started. Wild Irishman crew was always on time, and the project was completed within a few days.

At the beginning, Duane seemed very responsive. The photos of previous work were good, and he seemed to know what he was talking about. Unfortunately, after about a week of work, his crew was only occasionally there. He completely mis-understood instructions, and would rarely show up when he said he would. He promised dark mortar between the stones, and we got light mortar. He came to power wash and seal the patio, but obviously ran out of sealant, since we have streaks all over the patio. I finally gave up on calling the company, and he has never called back to finish the work.

Duane came to my home and was pleasant providing me a bid for a fence and landscaping my backyard. He called me the next day asking if I wanted him to start that day because they finished their other job early. When I clarified with him the work schedule and completion of project a whole new Duane emerged! He was shockingly aggressive, obnoxious and clearly thought he could bully me saying "what are you going to do not pay me". I'm not into it. I Terminated the deal immediately. Rude and completely unprofessional.

They never did any work for me and I would never consider using anyone who doesn't have the decency to show up at an appointment, or at least call to reschedule.

This review is seriously backdated, so I pray--for Duane's business' sake--that he has DRAMATICALLY improved his operations. We owned a historic Denver square in West Washington Park at the time of the work's "completion". We had a large-scale yard remodel, wrought iron fencin project, stone wall, and paver driveway for our new detached garage configured/installed.Duane seems very knowledgeable of his trade. However, the workmanship of his crews is horrible and requires MULTIPLE follow-ups by the homeowner. The quality of workmanship is not in keeping with his pricing, since the homeowner is quality control on all work performed. Our stone wall was redone at least 3 times. Our paver driveway was redone 3 times. At one point DURING the project, it was admitted to us by Duane that "his people had never worked with [the landscaping material] before....." We did not pay full price to be a training experiment for his crews. The only time we seemed to get satisfaction on any activity was when we insisted that Duane himself be present for the work being done. Our neighbors even began to complain to us about noise and dust because the project ran so long. At many times during the project, Duane was confrontational and defensive. The quality of the work perfomed was terrible. We have since sold the house and do not (honestly) know if the wall work is holding up. The process we went throught just to get to a point of completion was truly awful, considering we spent over $20K.

Initially, the workers arrived when promised, workers were mostly Spanish speaking and no supervisor or foreman was present difficult to communicate with the workers and the owner of the company did not return calls promptly. Fence was erected poorly, I had requested a lower fence in the front of the house 4 feet high that would gradually raise to 6 foot fence across back of the house. The workers cut all of the shorter boards the same length this resulted in a 2 foot gap between bottom of fence and ground in some places. Solution cost additional $100 for 5 yards of topsoil. Low grade topsoil (containing roofing nails and broken glass) was delivered. When the walkway was dug they compromised the existing 1 yr. old sprinkler system, cutting into the PVC piping and not repairing the damage and cementing over uncapped sprinkler heads. Decking material was not Trex decking and the cross rails began sagging because they did not follow recommendations from manufacturer. I am not happy!
