Both conditions are the responsibility of the flooring contractor. Numerous swirl or sanding marks are located around the perimeter of each room. These areas extend approximately 12-18 inches from the wall. The scratches or swirl marks appear darker in color than the surrounding stain. This is a result of improper sanding and a responsibility of the flooring contractor. We have over 20 photographs of the defective installation and treatment. The job was mismanaged, it took 31 days to complete vs the initial agreement of one week. He agreed to complete every aspect of the job himself, with no workers. He later violated this agreement by bringing workers in to help. He agreed that the walls would be taken care of, however, many rooms were badly splattered with stain. I spent personal time performing work the contractor was supposed to perform. I have tried to mediate these issues since July to no avail. He has avoided meetings and an attorney's letter about the issue.
Description of Work: He installed approximately 480 square feet of oak Heritage 1 hardwood flooring. He sanded, stained, sealed and finished 1171 square feet of flooring. This work was unsatisfactory. There are undulations and disc marks on the floor from the sanding. These spots are numerous and located at random throughout the floor. They are noticeable from a standing position just looking at the floor. This damage was caused by the flooring contractor and a result of improper sanding. Also, the stain is very blotchy, numerous areas have shade variations that vary from light to dark. This gives a blotchy or uneven look to the flooring. Affected areas are located around the perimeter as well as in the field of the flooring. This is due primarily to sanding the edges differently than the field.
