The Finishing Touch Woodworking is a Vietnam veteran-owned small business, with no subcontractors or franchises. You will receive personal attention from Terry and the very best in quality and workmanship. Terry is a journeyman woodworker with 40 years’ experience and now specializes in furniture and cabinet repair and refinishing. He has a reputation for very high quality and customer satisfaction and is known for his ability to build any type of replacement door and to match its color to the original factory finish. In addition, Terry has taught woodworking classes for six years with more than 10,000 students in attendance.
If your cabinets are damaged or yellowed with age, or if the finish is soft and sticky and washing off, we can remove the yellow and tint to original color with the finest catalyzed lacquer. We can also repair or replace a broken or missing door or drawer, or insert glass panels.
Refinishing your existing cabinetry is much less expensive than new cabinets or even refacing and will make them look new again. The new finish will be comparable to the original factory finish. For as little as $800 for a small kitchen (see pricing), you can have doors cleaned, dents and scratches repaired, and color replaced where missing. Then a high quality catalyzed lacquer is sprayed, not brushed on, as other companies do. If your cabinets are faded or yellowed with age, we can tint them a warm brown color (or any color you choose) to match existing furniture. The tinting will still allow the wood grain to show through.
If you think your doors are beyond repair, you will be surprised at what we can do. But if you want new doors, we can build them in any style, stain them to match your cabinets and install.
ESTIMATING PRICES -
We provide this section because we know most people want to get an idea of what a project will cost before calling.
Many times getting a new look only requires repairing and spraying the doors and drawers because face frames and cabinet sides don’t receive as much wear, and with touch up, may look just fine. Average base price is $45 per opening (doors and drawers only).
If your cabinets need tinting due to fading, yellowing or you just want to change the color, add $10 to the price per opening. This is the price for spraying doors and drawers only. Obviously, if you want to change the color, the cabinet face frames and sides also have to be sprayed to match, and the price will increase accordingly.
If your doors and drawers are beyond repair or you just wish to change the style, new ones can be made and stained to match existing cabinetry, utilizing your old cabinets and face frames.
If the customer will remove and reinstall the doors and drawers, they can save $4.00 per opening. Of course, we will provide support and hints for you to do this as easily as possible.
Call for an estimate or to schedule an appointment to view samples of doors and colors. I can make a sample of your desired color on one of your doors for approval. (Color can be removed.)
ODOR -
Doors and drawers are removed and sprayed in our shop, but the cabinets themselves must be done in the home. The high quality lacquer used does have an odor so entrances into the kitchen are tarped. Additionally, a fan is placed in the kitchen window or door to remove the lacquer odor so you will not smell anything in the adjacent rooms.
OTHER PROCESSES AND COMPETITORS -
Companies who advertise they will complete the entire process in your home and leave no odor can only do so by brushing on an odorless finish of either a water-based lacquer or a water-based polyurethane. These are poor finishes for cabinets because 1) water-based finishes are not as durable as catalyzed lacquer, and 2) they have to be brushed on in your home. Brushed on finishes do not have the high quality look and absolute smooth surface of a sprayed on lacquer, which does have an odor. Any commercial finish retailer who sells both water-based and solvent-based finishes can verify the quality of sprayed on catalyzed lacquer vs. water-based brushed on finishes.
